Editors front person Tom Smith has officially announced details for his debut solo album, ‘There Is Nothing In The Dark Which Isn’t There In The Light’, which is set for release on December 5th via Play It Again Sam. After two successful decades fronting Editors and releasing two albums with Smith & Burrows, Smith is finally stepping into solo territory, motivated by a desire to reconnect with the raw, acoustic beginnings of his songwriting. The album will feature the latest track, “Life Is For Living,” which is already available, along with the previously released single “Lights Of New York City.”
Smith enlisted producer Iain Archer to help craft the record, which is built around emotional honesty, acoustic textures, and themes of connection, memory, and resilience. Spike Jones’ ‘A Spooktacular In Screaming Sound!’ Stereo Classic Is Out Now
Omnivore Recordings has officially released Spike Jones’ classic ‘Spike Jones In Stereo: A Spooktacular In Screaming Sound!’, which is out now on CD and slime green vinyl. Originally issued in 1959 on Warner Bros. Records, this landmark stereo recording returns to physical formats for the first time in nearly fifty years, fully remastered and presented with new liner notes. Spike Jones’ endlessly inventive recordings had long made an art out of musical insanity, incorporating car horns, gunshots, burps, and all manner of sound effects. By 1959, monsters were big Hollywood business, and Jones, alongside longtime arranger Carl Brandt, created an astounding album that pushed the then new format of stereo audio separation to its absolute limits.
The album is credited to Spike Jones And The Band That Plays For Fun, and the vocals were handled by a host of legendary performers. Paul Frees was featured, known as the “voice” of Boris Badenov and Disneyland’s unseen Ghost Host at The Haunted Mansion. Also contributing was Thurl Ravenscroft, famous as Tony The Tiger and for singing the iconic “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” ‘Spike Jones In Stereo’ became a classic, earning appreciation from Dr. Demento and “Weird Al” Yankovic, who said, “If I’ve got any kind of goal, it’s to aspire to be in this generation what Spike was in his.” The new liners, written by Joe Marchese, feature new interviews with Spike’s children, Linda Lee Jones and Spike Jones, Jr., who believe the album’s reissue will be enjoyed by new audiences.

Joyce Manor Drops Brett Gurewitz-Produced Single “All My Friends Are So Depressed”
SoCal punk rockers Joyce Manor have returned with their first new music in three years, the Brett Gurewitz produced single “All My Friends Are So Depressed,” which is available everywhere out now. The track, which arrives alongside an official music video, is equally inspired by the jangly melancholy of The Smiths and the hyperpop flow of 100 Gecs, further cementing the band as one of our generation’s most catchy and consistent bands. Vocalist and guitarist Barry Johnson explained the song’s genesis, saying his initial line was inspired by a “Tecate delivery truck with Jesus sh*t all over it,” which quickly led to the concept of the song, describing it as his take on Lana Del Rey lyrics, only instead of “icy, detached cool 50’s Americana,” it is “dirty shag carpet, bong rips, Peter Frampton Comes Alive, key lime pie and suicidal ideations.”
Musically, the trio was drawing from influences like The Libertines, Tiger Army, and X, while embracing a surprisingly soft, acoustic laced side that is both extremely Joyce Manor and unlike any other song in their catalog. Asleep At The Wheel Celebrates Texas Legacy with New Album ‘Riding High In Texas’
Just a few short days after being inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, the legendary Western Swing outfit Asleep At The Wheel has released their new album, ‘Riding High In Texas’, which is out now via Bismeaux Records and Signature Sounds Recordings. This ten song collection celebrates the band’s 50th anniversary of calling the Lone Star State home, featuring some of the best songs about Texas from songwriters like Jimmie Rogers, Guy Clark, and Charlie Daniels. The latest single from the album finds the band, helmed by Ray Benson, taking on the classic “Long Tall Texan,” first released by The Four Flickers in 1959.
Benson joked about the appropriateness of the track, saying, “I thought this would be a fun one to do, considering I am a ‘long tall Texan. It’s been recorded by many and in many different styles. We got our great friend Lyle Lovett to join us, and a great time was had!” The album boasts other A list collaborations, including a feature with Billy Strings. For a band whose lineup is constantly changing, ‘Riding High In Texas’ also introduces a new face, fiddler and vocalist Ian Stewart, who joined Benson and company at the suggestion of longtime band member Danny Levin.
