Gospel Worship Leader Ron Kenoly Dies At 81, Leaving Legacy That Shaped Generations

0

Legendary American gospel singer and worship leader Ron Kenoly has died at the age of 81, confirmed by his music director Bruno Miranda. Kenoly’s influence stretched across 123 nations over 48 years of ministry. His songs became fixtures in churches around the world. “Ancient of Days”, “Let There Be Praise”, “Whose Report Shall We Believe”, “Jesus Is Alive”, and “Lift Him Up” rang out in congregations from California to Nigeria. He won the GMA Dove Award for Praise and Worship Album of the Year in 1997 for ‘Welcome Home’.

Born December 6, 1944 in Coffeyville, Kansas, Kenoly grew up singing at a Baptist church in his hometown. He served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1968, performing in a top 40 cover band called The Mellow Fellows. After the military, he pursued secular music, singing demos of Jimmy Webb songs and releasing R&B tracks for A&M Records under the stage name Ron Keith. He and Candy Rae signed to George Semper’s Inner City label in 1972. Their single “Lovely Weekend” sold nearly 200,000 copies. But by the late 1970s, Kenoly left secular music behind and spent four years trying to land a gospel record deal.

His first Christian album ‘You Ought to Listen to This’ arrived in 1983. Two years later, he became worship leader at Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, California. The breakthrough came in 1992 when ‘Lift Him Up’ became the fastest selling worship album to that point. Released through Integrity Music, the record established Kenoly as a defining voice in contemporary Christian worship. ‘Welcome Home’, produced by Tom Brooks, topped Billboard’s contemporary worship chart. Kenoly held multiple degrees including a Doctorate of Ministry in sacred music. He moved to central Florida in 1999 and spent the rest of his life traveling, teaching, and recording.

Miranda, who worked alongside Kenoly for over 20 years, wrote that the worship leader was “very intentional about one thing: he was not an artist, never an entertainer. He was a worship leader. And he would take all the time necessary to explain what that truly meant. A worship leader’s calling is not to perform songs, but to lead people into true worship in the presence of a King; the King of Kings, Jesus Christ.” Kenoly was particularly beloved in Africa, especially Nigeria, where his ministry helped spark the renaissance of English language gospel music in the late nineties and influenced artists like Sammy Okposo, Cobham, and Sinach.

Nigeria Bishop WaLe Oke called Kenoly “a man of humility, a vessel of grace, and a true worshipper who gave his life to the glory of God.” Gospel artists Nathaniel Bassey and Dunsin Oyekan paid tribute to the legend. Just two days before his death, Kenoly posted on Instagram thanking the people who helped him reach over 123 nations. “I am 81 and in my 48th year of ministry,” he wrote. Kenoly was married to Tavita for 42 years and had three sons: Samuel, Ronald, and Tony. He married Diana, a United Nations Ambassador, on November 24, 2014. His cousin is actor Don Cheadle. Miranda wrote that “today we grieve deeply but not without hope. The worship he lived is now the worship he beholds.”

Jesse Sykes And The Sweet Hereafter Announce UK And EU Dates Supporting ‘Forever, I’ve Been Being Born’

0

Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter announce a string of headline dates in the UK and EU, including a performance at Roadburn Festival. The tour supports ‘Forever, I’ve Been Being Born’, released on Southern Lord in the USA and Ideologic Organ in Europe. The album was in the making for ten years and centers around Jesse Sykes’ transcendent voice and guitarist Phil Wandscher’s playing, which masterfully frames the songs with classic and fractured tones. The record dwells in themes of magical thinking, emotional dislocation, death and transformation through masterful, emotive songwriting.

Sykes describes the album as “our attempt to create elegant folk and sometimes ragged, cosmic, heart-rendered songs full of eulogies and laments. Our sound is still familiar enough, but unrecognizable at times—we’ve gotten older and wearier, the music more fragile.” When recording began, Sykes told the band to “play the songs as if the edge of a butterfly wing was brushing against your cheek in the dark while you’re holding a small child.” The tour dates run as follows:

04/16/26 – Botanique – Brussels

04/17/26 – Roadburn Festival – Tilburg

04/19/26 – Chapel @ Angel Microbrewery – Nottingham

04/20/26 – Hyde Park Book Club – Leeds

04/21/26 – The Cumberland Arms – Newcastle

04/22/26 – The Hug & Pint – Glasgow

04/24/26 – BelloBar – Dublin

04/26/26 – The Hope & Ruin – Brighton

04/27/26 – The Lexington – London

Absinthe Green Releases “Death By A Thousand Cuts” From Debut Album ‘Of Love And Pain’

0

Absinthe Green releases “Death By A Thousand Cuts” on February 13, 2026 across all platforms. The track serves as the valediction and epilogue to the band’s debut album ‘Of Love And Pain’, which arrived September 19, 2025 and was produced by Hiili Hiilesmaa. Absinthe Green describes the song as inspired by the ancient Chinese method of slow slicing, where many small wounds cumulatively lead to death. “Symbolically, the song reflects how love can feel this way: a series of small betrayals, slights, or pains that gradually erode the heart,” Absinthe Green explains. The song transforms pain into ritual, bleeding devotion into every note as a shadowed farewell written in scars.

Absinthe Green began as a personal project in 2016, led by songwriter and producer Eirini ‘Absinthe Green’ in Dortmund, Germany. After moving back to Greece in 2019, Absinthe was joined by drummer Harry Mason, bassist Villy Pirris, and later guitarist Panos Economakis. The band fuses pop elements, aggressive guitars, groovy rhythms, and versatile vocal range into emotionally charged sound. A critic once described them as “a melodic storm of beauty and heartbreak, both ferocious and tender.” Soul-stirring vocals shift between power and fragility while skillful guitar work and infectious grooves underpin melodies that cut straight to the core.

‘Of Love And Pain’ ventures into the contradictions of human experience, where destruction and creation, light and darkness merge. Absinthe Green describes the album as “a vessel for my experiences, woven from love, grief, defiance, and redemption. Yet it is not only born of sorrow; within its depths there is also humour, playfulness, and the strange joy of turning darkness into sound.” The band credits sound engineer Geegor as the fifth member whose dedication gave the record its beating heart. What began as a solitary project has grown into a band that resists simple definition, both fierce and fragile, shadowed and luminous.

ROREY Explores Self Abandonment And Intimacy On Powerful Single “Temporary Tragedy”

0

New York singer-songwriter and musician ROREY releases “Temporary Tragedy”, the new single from her sophomore EP ‘Dysphoria’. Co-written and produced in 2021 with longtime collaborator Scott Effman, the EP merges haunting melodies and ethereal vocals with hypnotic, swirling instrumentals. ROREY describes “Temporary Tragedy” as a song about “the cost of self abandonment when you grip intimacy and what it means to choose yourself.” The track arrives with a cinematic music video that chronicles the rumination and spiraling that can follow the end of a relationship.

‘Dysphoria’ captures the contradictions of mental illness through raw confession and fearless songwriting. The project emerged from ROREY’s experience during a manic episode, transforming chaos and disorientation into music that unsettles as much as it heals. “Temporary Tragedy” confronts the moment when love can’t bridge the gap between hope and reality.

The music video draws from ROREY’s first queer relationship while speaking to a universal experience. “The video is rooted in my first queer relationship, its message is universal: sometimes love isn’t enough to bridge the gap between hope and reality, when the other person can’t meet you there,” ROREY explains. The single showcases ROREY’s ability to name difficult truths through powerful, poignant songwriting.

Created in January 2014, Music Venue Trust aims to secure the long-term future of GMVs in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, whether they are iconic venues such as Hull Adelphi, Exeter Cavern, The 100 Club, Band on the Wall, King Tut’s, and Clwb Ifor Bach, or lesser-known venues that are equally important to their geographical or musical community. These venues play a crucial role in the development of British music, nurturing local talent, providing a platform for artists to build their careers and develop their music and their performance skills.

MVT works to gain recognition of the essential role these venues fulfil, not only for artist development but also for the cultural and music industries, the economy, and local communities. The geographical spread of GMVs provides access to live music, for both performers and audience members, in many locations that do not have alternative cultural venues. The charity provides advice to the government, the cultural sector, and the music industry on issues impacting GMVs and is the nominated representative that speaks on behalf of the Music Venues Alliance, an association of venues from across the UK.

Matthew Curry Delivers Southern Rock Fire And Heartfelt Stories On ‘One For The Ride’

0

Matthew Curry opens a new chapter with ‘One For The Ride’, an album that moves between scorching guitar work and tender storytelling with remarkable ease. The collection captures the spirit of life on the road while revealing the emotional depth that has earned Curry praise from legends like Steve Miller and Peter Frampton. Released February 27, 2026 through Ruf Records, the album features ten tracks that blend blues, southern rock, and Americana into something both familiar and fresh.

The album announces itself with high-octane energy. “Rum Stumblin'” kicks things off with bluesy party grooves, while “Born Behind The Wheel” leans into the gritty southern rock tradition that shaped Curry’s musical identity. These tracks showcase the fiery guitar playing that drew comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughan from Steve Miller himself. Curry channels the raw spirit of ZZ Top and classic road songs, creating moments that hit with immediate impact.

‘One For The Ride’ also finds Curry in quieter, more intimate spaces. “Dancing In The Kitchen” grew from a spontaneous anniversary moment at home, bringing acoustic warmth to the record. “Rather Float A River” blends blues, funk, country, and Americana, reflecting Curry’s connection to the outdoors and life on the water. The album closes with Curry’s take on “Whiskey Rock a Roller”, the only cover on the record and a direct tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Curry picked up the guitar at age four, performed live by eight, and has since shared stages with Journey, the Doobie Brothers, and Don Felder across a career built on authentic musicianship.
