0

Midge Ure has announced a late summer North American tour that will kick off at Daryl’s house in Pawling, NY on August 7. The gigs dubbed ‘Band In A Box’ will take Midge across North America and back, wrapping up in Ft. Lauderdale on September 12.

Midge says: “Lots of people asking me to clarify what ‘Band in a Box’ actually is. It consists of myself on electric guitar, synthesiser and vocals alongside my long time keyboard player Charlie Round-Turner playing live with various loops, samples and programmed drums. A band in a box! This format allows me to perform a full band performance with a ’stripped down’ duo. I will be playing a range of material from my long and varied career. From early Ultravox and Visage to recent solo material. Who knew two people could make so much noise?”

Midge Ure has an impressive catalogue fronting the groundbreaking electrorock band Ultravox as well as being a member of such notable bands as Visage and Thin Lizzy. He helped form Band Aid where he produced and co-wrote the smash charity single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas,’ still one of the biggest singles in UK music history. He was also one of the principle creators of Live Aid and Live 8 along with Bob Geldof. Ure has spent most of his career touring the globe playing solo and with Ultravox who reformed in 2009. He served the notable role of MD for the Princes Trust at the Royal Albert Hall with a cast of the usual suspects including Queen, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and Mark King. Ure is now working on three albums including a follow-up to Fragile, an Orchestrated Pt. 2 in addition to a totally instrumental album.

Harnessing the Power of Datacenter Proxies in Modern Digital Landscapes

0

By Mitch Rice

In the ever-evolving realm of cybersecurity and digital privacy, the concept of datacenter proxies has emerged as a pivotal tool for businesses and individuals alike. This article delves into the intricacies of datacenter proxies, their role in today’s digital infrastructure, and explores how they contribute to enhanced online security and operational efficiency.

Understanding Datacenter Proxies

Datacenter proxy are intermediary servers situated in datacenters, acting as a gateway between users and the internet. Unlike residential proxies that use IP addresses assigned by ISPs to homeowners, datacenter proxies are hosted in datacenters and provide users with anonymous IP addresses.

These proxies serve several crucial purposes:

Anonymity and Privacy: Datacenter proxies mask the user’s IP address, making it appear as though the request originates from the datacenter’s IP rather than the user’s actual location. This anonymity is vital for privacy-conscious users and businesses seeking to protect their online activities.

Geographical Flexibility: Businesses often use datacenter proxies to access geo-restricted content or to conduct market research across different regions without physical presence. By rotating IP addresses from various datacenters worldwide, companies can gather data ethically and efficiently.

Enhanced Security: Datacenter proxies add an extra layer of security by shielding the user’s device from direct contact with the internet. This isolation reduces the risk of cyber threats such as DDoS attacks, ensuring smoother and safer online operations.

Scalability and Performance: Due to their centralized location and dedicated infrastructure, datacenter proxies typically offer faster connection speeds and lower latency compared to residential proxies. This advantage is crucial for tasks requiring rapid data retrieval or high-volume scraping.

Applications Across Industries

The versatility of datacenter proxies makes them indispensable across various sectors:

E-commerce and Price Aggregation: Retailers use datacenter proxies to monitor competitors’ prices, ensuring they remain competitive in the market while adhering to pricing strategies.

Ad Verification: Advertisers deploy datacenter proxies to verify ad placements and monitor their campaigns’ effectiveness across different regions and platforms.

Market Research: Companies leverage datacenter proxies to gather market intelligence, analyze consumer behavior, and tailor their strategies based on regional trends and preferences.

Cybersecurity: Datacenter proxies assist cybersecurity professionals in testing network defenses and identifying vulnerabilities without exposing their true identities.

Challenges and Considerations

Despite their advantages, datacenter proxies face challenges such as:

Detection and Blocking: Some websites employ sophisticated techniques to detect and block proxy traffic, limiting their effectiveness in certain contexts.

Ethical Use: Misuse of datacenter proxies for illegal activities like hacking or unauthorized data scraping can lead to legal repercussions and damage to a company’s reputation.

IP Reputation: Datacenter IP addresses may sometimes have a tainted reputation due to previous misuse, resulting in restrictions or challenges in accessing certain online services.

Future Outlook

As digital landscapes evolve, the role of datacenter proxies is likely to expand further. Innovations in AI and machine learning may enhance proxy technologies, enabling more sophisticated evasion of detection methods while maintaining ethical boundaries.

Conclusion

Datacenter proxies represent a cornerstone in the architecture of modern digital operations, offering a blend of anonymity, security, and performance optimization essential for businesses navigating the online environment. Understanding their capabilities and implementing them responsibly can empower enterprises to achieve their goals efficiently and ethically in an increasingly interconnected world.

For businesses and individuals alike, embracing datacenter proxies responsibly can unlock a realm of possibilities, from safeguarding privacy to driving competitive advantage through informed decision-making and secure digital interactions.

My Next Read: “Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska” by Warren Zanes

0

Without Nebraska, Bruce Springsteen might not be who he is today. The natural follow-up to Springsteen’s hugely successful album The River should have been the hit-packed Born in the U.S.A. But instead, in 1982, he came out with an album consisting of a series of dark songs he had recorded by himself, for himself. But more than forty years later, Nebraska is arguably Springsteen’s most important record—the lasting clue to understanding not just his career as an artist and the vision behind it, but also the man himself.

Nebraska is rough and unfinished, recorded on cassette tape with a simple four-track recorder by Springsteen, alone in his bedroom, just as the digital future was announcing itself. And yet Springsteen now considers it his best album. Nebraska expressed a turmoil that was reflective of the mood of the country, but it was also a symptom of trouble in the artist’s life, the beginnings of a mental breakdown that Springsteen would only talk about openly decades after the album’s release.

Warren Zanes spoke to many people involved with making Nebraska, including Bruce Springsteen himself. He also interviewed more than a dozen celebrated artists and musical insiders, from Rosanne Cash to Steven Van Zandt, about their reactions to the album. Zanes interweaves these conversations with inquiries into the myriad cultural touchpoints, including Terrence Malick’s Badlands and the short stories of Flannery O’Conner, that influenced Springsteen as he was writing the album’s haunting songs. The result is a textured and revelatory account of not only a crucial moment in the career of an icon but also a record that upended all expectations and predicted a home-recording revolution.

David Bowie’s Debut Self-Titled To Be Reissued On Vinyl With Rare “Space Oddity”

0

On 26th July David Bowie’s groundbreaking debut album is set for a vibrant revival on Deram with a reissue on both CD and coloured vinyl, boasting exclusive tracklists.

Presented with the single B-sides the very first time on vinyl, including a rare version of Space Oddity, his breakthrough hit.

Originally released on 1st June 1966 David Bowie was an artist on the cusp of genius, in the height of Swinging London.

Critics of the time commented; with the NME praising Bowie’s fresh sound as “all very refreshing” and hailing him as “a very promising talent.” Melody Maker lauds the album as “a singularly rewarding collection” with “excellent” production, while expressing surprise that Bowie hadn’t yet made a bigger impact on the pop scene. Meanwhile, Disc & Music Echo raves about the album, describing it as “a remarkable, creative debut album by a 19-year-old Londoner” and declaring Bowie as “a new talent that deserves attention.”

With such illuminating reviews, this release promises to reignite Bowie’s early legacy and introduce his visionary artistry to a new generation of listeners.

This re-issue features the original stereo album, produced by Mike Vernon, with a further fourteen tracks, including the first fruits of Bowie’s long relationship with producer Tony Visconti; ‘Let Me Sleep Beside You’, ‘Karma Man’ ‘In The Heat Of The Morning’ and ‘London Bye Ta-Ta’, the last making its vinyl debut in this collection.

Looking back on his debut album many years later with characteristic self-deprecation, Bowie mused: “Lyrically I guess it was striving to be something – the short story teller. Musically it’s quite bizarre. I don’t know where I was at. It seemed to have its roots all over the place, in rock and vaudeville and music hall and I don’t know what. I didn’t know if I was Max Miller or Elvis Presley.”

These early recordings reveal an earnest young artist at the dawn of his career, working hard on material in which he passionately believed. David Bowie poured his young heart into this music – and it shows.

Little Big Town Continue 25th Anniversary Celebration With Greatest Hits Album Out August 9

0

Multi-platinum GRAMMY® Award-winning four-piece Little Big Town – comprised of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook – proudly announce the release of their first-ever career-spanning Greatest Hits album out August 9, 2024 via Capitol Records Nashville. The album collects over two decades of chart-busting country smashes on one definitive body of work, ranging from the GRAMMY Award-winning “Pontoon”, “Boondocks” and “Better Man” to massively influential anthems such as “Girl Crush.” It traces the quartet’s unbelievable journey from humble beginnings to country royalty. For the uninitiated, it’s also the best way to get to know the band.

“As we embark on the next 25 years of Little Big Town, we wanted to reflect back on our catalogue and really honor the songs that have had the greatest impact throughout this incredible journey,” said Little Big Town. “This Greatest Hits album was carefully curated by all four of us and is a love letter to our fans who have been there for every reason.”

Simultaneously, the band continue to give diehard fans something unique, inviting marquee superstars to duet on a handful of fan favorites for the first time. In this spirit, a few close friends have joined them to celebrate 25 years on Greatest Hits. Today, they herald the album’s arrival with a new version of their 2011 hit, “Shut Up Train” featuring Kelsea Ballerini – available to stream now.

“Kelsea is a dear friend of ours and has been telling us for years that “Shut Up Train” is one of her favorite album cuts. When we asked her to add her voice to the song, we were blown away by the nuances she added. She made this song all the more special,” gushed Little Big Town.

Plus, they linked up with Miranda Lambert for a new collaborative version of the platinum 2010 staple “Little White Church.” Lambert infuses the track with fresh fire, continuing a tradition of collaboration with Little Big Town dating back to 2014’s “Smokin’ and Drinkin’.” It’s yet another gem from Greatest Hits.

The band initially set the stage for Greatest Hits by releasing Phil Collins’ cover “Take Me Home” featuring Sugarland – listen HERE. The two powerhouse groups notably delivered a stunning performance of the song at the 2024 CMT Music Awards. Inciting critical applause, People hailed it as “a CMT Awards reunion more than a decade in the making,” and Rolling Stone applauded how “all six vocalists – had a solo moment.” Not to mention, the soaring collaboration has already amassed over 1 million total streams and counting.

And in other news, not only will the band and Sugarland be canvasing North American on the Take Me Home Tour this fall, see dates below, but NBC just announced that Little Big Town will be hosting what promises to be an unforgettable holiday special entitled, Little Big Town’s Christmas at The Opry”. The special will be a festive 2-hour musical extravaganza from Nashville’s iconic Grand OIe Opry, featuring performances from the band alongside lots of exciting special guests.

GRAMMY, ACM, CMA, AMA, and Emmy Award-winning group, Little Big Town – consisting of members Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman, and Jimi Westbrook – first entered the music scene 25 years ago with hit songs “Boondocks,” “Bring It On Home,” “Good As Gone” and the GRAMMY-nominated “Little White Church.” The band’s breakthrough albums Tornado and PainKillerproduced multiple No. 1 singles, including “Pontoon,” “Tornado,” and “Day Drinking,” as well as the history-making, best-selling country single of the year (2015) “Girl Crush.” 2017’s The Breaker debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Charts to critical acclaim. The album features their GRAMMY-winning, multi-week #1 single, “Better Man,” as well as the 2019 GRAMMY-nominated, “When Someone Stops Loving You.” The band’s self-produced ninth studio album, Nightfall, was released January 2020 and hit the top of the Billboard Country Charts. The record included critically acclaimed and GRAMMY-nominated songs “The Daughters,” “Over Drinking” and “Wine, Beer, Whiskey” – the latter of which has reached almost 400 million global streams. In September 2022, they released their tenth studio album, Mr. Sun, which debuted as the Top Country Album released by a Group in 2022. Little Big Town has earned more than 45 award show nominations and has taken home over 20 awards, including multiple GRAMMY, AMA, People’s Choice, CMA, and ACM Awards, in addition to an Emmy award.

Dolly Parton’s New Musical ‘Hello, I’m Dolly’ To Hit Broadway in 2026

0

Dolly Parton announced from the stage of the CMA Fest in Nashville that she will partner with ATG Productions to bring a new musical inspired by her life and trailblazing career, titled Hello, I’m Dolly, to Broadway in 2026.

“Hello, I’m Dolly, and I lived my whole life to see this show on stage,” Dolly said. “I’ve written many original songs for the show and included all your favorites in it as well. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap, you’ll stomp, it truly is a Grand Ol’ Opera. Pun and fun intended. Don’t miss it!”

Produced by Dolly, Adam Speers for ATG Productions, and Danny Nozell for CTK Enterprises, the new musical borrows its title from the name of Dolly’s first studio album released in 1967. Hello, I’m Dolly will feature a score by Dolly that will include some of her biggest hits as well as new songs she has written especially for the musical, and a book by Dolly and Maria S. Schlatter. Additional members of the creative team and casting will be announced at a later date.

“I first had the pleasure of working with Dolly Parton in 2019 when she trusted us to develop a new version of her musical 9 to 5 for London’s West End,” Adam Speers said. “I had always heard she wanted to do a musical based on her life, so when she asked if I would be interested in producing it, I was bowled over. As the world knows, Dolly is a magical blend of talent, hard work, intelligence, charm, wit, and a gigantically big heart. I’m thrilled we’re going to bring her inspiring story to Broadway.”
