“I had these two beats going on and then I started to play on a Roland sh1 which is our only synthesizer, monophonic and I started to play this thing…So this was going round and round and she was getting more and more excited and just out of her mouth she just came out with “sweet dreams are made of this” and started to sing that.”

Sabrina also teamed up with Spotify to create a first-ever Top Listener Fan Pit at each show; in addition, they are launching the official Sabrina on Tour playlist, curated by Sabrina herself, full of catalog hits and her inspirations.
The tour is in support of Sabrina’s recently announced album, Short n’ Sweet, out August 23 – preorder here. Earlier this month, Sabrina released her second single from the forthcoming album, “Please Please Please” – listen here and watch the music video here. Sabrina enlisted GRAMMY-Award-winning Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen as collaborators for the single. “Please Please Please” hit #1 on Spotify’s Global and US charts, #1 on Apple Music and this week, it debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Sabrina debuted the song live at Governors Ball in New York earlier this month. Featured on several “Best of” lists after the festival, including Billboard and Rolling Stone, the former of which also declared “there’s an innate confidence in Carpenter’s presence onstage, an effortless ease that emerges as she exchanges winks and quips with the audience, then locks right back into performance mode an instant later”. Sabrina will also be headlining Outside Lands Music Festival on August 10th — this will be her first time performing at the San Francisco festival. Single Day and 3-Day tickets are currently on sale here
The album’s lead single, “Espresso,” was released in April and instantly became a smash hit. The Platinum-certified single became Sabrina’s fourth hit on the Billboard Hot 100, where it’s currently #3 this week, and her first Top 5 on the chart where she now has two of the top three songs this week. It captured the #1 spot on the Spotify Global, US, and UK charts and hit #1 on the UK Singles Chart. It also reached #1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart. Of the single, Uproxx stated “Carpenter has a knack for coming up with pop hits, and “Espresso” has shown to be one of her biggest so far” while The New York Times heralded the single as the song ready to “propel her to the next level.” The sentiment has been proven true and the bonafide star blew fans away with her debut Coachella performance shortly following the release of “Espresso.” Los Angeles Times cited her among “The 15 Best Things We Saw at Coachella 2024,” going on to profess, “Carpenter already had put more effort into her set than some past Coachella headliners”. And just last month she made her debut as the musical guest on the season finale of Saturday Night Live.
Earlier this year, Sabrina made headlines as she joined Taylor Swift on the international leg of her highly acclaimed ERA’S Tour in Mexico, South America, Australia, and Singapore.
Sabrina Carpenter has enchanted an audience of millions as a singer, songwriter, actress and style icon. With her music, she has delivered one anthem after another on stage and in the studio, earning multiple gold and platinum certifications, and performing to sold out crowds around the world. On-screen, she has generated mega-fandom through starring roles on television and film. She is signed to Island Records, where she has released a multitude of hit singles: “Because I Liked A Boy,” “Nonsense,” “Feather” & her most recent single “Espresso.” Sabrina debuted her acclaimed Gold-certified fifth studio album, emails i can’t send, which appeared on many “Best Of 2022” lists including Rolling Stone and Billboard. The album features her hit single “Feather” which went #1 at Top 40 Radio, earning Sabrina her first #1. The platinum hit single also peaked at #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has amassed over 600M global streams to date. In addition to her growing list of acting and music credits, she was selected for Forbes’ prestigious “30 Under 30” list. Her sold out emails i can’t send tour took her to North America, Europe, Asia and Brazil, and she recently served as direct support for Taylor Swift in Latin America, Australia and Singapore on the Era’s Tour. In April, Sabrina made her Coachella debut and was one of the most talked about artists of the festival. Ahead of her Coachella debut, she released her new single “Espresso,” which has quickly climbed the charts and became Sabrina’s most successful single launch to date. Upon release, Pitchfork declared Espresso “in pole position to be this year’s song of the summer,” and The New York Times heralded the single as the song ready to “propel her to the next level”. Since its release, “Espresso” has gone on to reach #1 on the UK & Australian singles charts, Top 5 in the US, and #1 on Spotify, globally where it has also reached over 200M streams within its first month. Sabrina made her Saturday Night Live debut in May on the season finale where she performed “Espresso” and “Feather/Nonsense.” She will release her highly anticipated sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet, on August 23rd, 2024.

ABOUT SABRINA CARPENTER:
Breakout Artist Sarah Kinsley Unveils “Last Time We Never Meet Again”
Today, breakout artist Sarah Kinsley unveils “Last Time We Never Meet Again”—the first song to be released from her forthcoming album, Escaper, via Verve Forecast.
Self-described as possibly her most vulnerable song on the record, the track takes inspiration from the end of a friendship. “The song is meant to be celebratory,” Sarah details, “but it’s trying to make something that is really sincerely a goodbye—the closing of all these worlds that you inhabit with the people you love. A celebratory goodbye.”
Her debut full-length album is set for release September 6. Pre-order/pre-save the album HERE.
Kinsley recently confirmed she’ll embark on a headline tour across North America, the U.K. and Europe in support of the new music, kicking off September 15 and including stops at New York City’s Webster Hall, Los Angeles’ Troubadour and more. See below for a complete list of dates. Tickets and more info HERE.
Fascinated by the idea of alternate realities and imaginary worlds, Escaper finds Kinsley challenging the listener to find their own escape. Across the album’s 12 tracks, Kinsley explores old friendships, loss, romantic love compared to the love of close friends, and relationships fizzling that once flourished.
Kinsley collaborated with and co-produced the album alongside Grammy-award winning producer John Congleton (Angel Olsen, St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten). “One realization you have eventually as an insular, more introspective person is that there’s a world outside of yourself waiting for you to look into it. I had made every single EP from scratch, in the sweetness of my apartment… This record was meant to be grand and unstoppable. A beginning descent into freefall. Why protect that feeling in solitude? Why not invite another into that journey?” she details of working with Congleton.
Growing up in the world of classical music and coming to love pop music in her teenage years, Kinsley often marries the two on Escaper. “I’m just such a sucker for massive, grand songs,” she describes. “I think it’s the classical musician in me who loves symphonies and the magnum opus effect.”
The New York-based artist has released three EPs—The King (2021), Cypress (2022) and Ascension (2023)—to widespread critical praise. The King’s title track went viral on TikTok, accumulating 121 million global streams to date across her catalogue and climbing, and the EP was included in NME’s list of top debut projects of 2021 raving, “Her transformative songs of growing pains and discovery share a similar intimacy to the introverted, deeply human alt-pop of Maggie Rogers and Lorde.”
Ascension received praise from the likes of NPR Music, The Sunday Times, Ones to Watch and more. Kinsley has performed at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and more, as well as opened for the likes of Mitski, Sylvan Esso, Weyes Blood and Gus Dapperton.

Dive into Summer Vibes: 5 Elements of a Great Summer Song
Summer is here, and with it comes the irresistible urge to blast those tunes that perfectly capture the essence of sunshine, adventure, and carefree vibes. What makes a song the ultimate anthem for the season? Let’s break down the essential elements that elevate a track to summer hit status, along with some fantastic examples to get you in the mood!
Upbeat and Infectious Rhythm: A great summer song needs to have a rhythm that makes you want to move and groove. Think of catchy beats that instantly lift your spirits and make you feel like dancing barefoot on the beach or by the poolside.
Positive and Carefree Lyrics: Lyrics play a crucial role in setting the summer mood. They should evoke feelings of joy, freedom, and relaxation—whether it’s about love, hanging out with friends, or enjoying the sunshine. Positive vibes are key!
Memorable Melodies and Hooks: Summer songs often have memorable melodies and catchy hooks that stick with you long after you’ve heard them. They should be easy to sing along to and create a sense of nostalgia or excitement about the season.
Energetic Instrumentation: Whether it’s the strumming of a guitar, the beat of drums, or the playful use of synthesizers, energetic instrumentation is essential. It should complement the lyrics and enhance the overall feel-good atmosphere of the song.
Evokes a Sense of Escapism and Adventure: A great summer song transports you to a carefree state of mind. It should make you feel like you’re on vacation, whether you’re driving with the windows down, lounging by the pool, or having a BBQ with friends. It captures the essence of summer escapism and adventure.
These elements combined create the perfect soundtrack for those sunny days and warm nights, making a great summer song not just something you hear, but something you feel and remember.

My Next Read: “The Sonic Color Line: Race and the Cultural Politics of Listening” by Jennifer Lynn Stoever
The unheard history of how race and racism are constructed from sound and maintained through the listening ear.
Race is a visual phenomenon, the ability to see “difference.” At least that is what conventional wisdom has lead us to believe. Yet, The Sonic Color Line argues that American ideologies of white supremacy are just as dependent on what we hear—voices, musical taste, volume—as they are on skin color or hair texture. Reinforcing compelling new ideas about the relationship between race and sound with meticulous historical research, Jennifer Lynn Stoever helps us to better understand how sound and listening not only register the racial politics of our world, but actively produce them. Through analysis of the historical traces of sounds of African American performers, Stoever reveals a host of racialized aural representations operating at the level of the unseen—the sonic color line—and exposes the racialized listening practices she figures as “the listening ear.”
Using an innovative multimedia archive spanning 100 years of American history (1845-1945) and several artistic genres—the slave narrative, opera, the novel, so-called “dialect stories,” folk and blues, early sound cinema, and radio drama—The Sonic Color Line explores how black thinkers conceived the cultural politics of listening at work during slavery, Reconstruction, and Jim Crow. By amplifying Harriet Jacobs, Frederick Douglass, Elizabeth Taylor Greenfield, Charles Chesnutt, The Fisk Jubilee Singers, Ann Petry, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Lena Horne as agents and theorists of sound, Stoever provides a new perspective on key canonical works in African American literary history. In the process, she radically revises the established historiography of sound studies. The Sonic Color Line sounds out how Americans have created, heard, and resisted “race,” so that we may hear our contemporary world differently.
The Tragically Hip Announce Deluxe Boxset Of ‘Up To Here’ Available November 8
Today, The Tragically Hip announce a commemorative boxset of their Diamond-certified debut album Up To Here, the latest installment of special deluxe packages, set to release on November 8. Up To Here was originally released September 5, 1989, as The Tragically Hip’s first full-length studio album, an introduction that brought them breakthrough success, including two Canadian rock radio #1 singles, “Blow at High Dough” and “New Orleans is Sinking” as well earning the band a JUNO Award for “Most Promising Artist” in 1990. Fans can pre-order the boxset today here.
The expanded reissue of Up To Here is a must-have for collectors, presented as four LP set on 180g vinyl, alongside a book documenting the history of the debut album era. The reissue includes a 2024 remastering of the original album, there are four previously unreleased songs that didn’t make it on the original Up To Here album – “She’s Got What It Takes,” “Get Back Again,” “Rain, Hearts And Fire” and “Wait So Long” – that are also shared as part of this expanded package, remastered and mixed in Atmos. A recording of Live at Misty Moon, the special filmed for MuchMusic in 1990 from the Misty Moon Cabaret in Halifax, with an accompanying 1 hour concert film on Blu-ray. The package also includes demos from 1988 recorded prior to the Up To Here recording session. The package will be available as a three-disc CD format.
Today, as a sneak peak, The Tragically Hip officially release “Get Back Again,” considered by fans as the holy grail of unreleased tracks from the band. The track was recorded prior to signing to their first major record deal with MCA (now Universal Music Canada), produced by Chris Wardman in November 1988, before the Up To Here sessions, now recently remixed and mastered to today’s standards. The band performed “Get Back Again” as part of the Live At Misty Moon set, which has been the only recorded version of the track from the band until now, making this a meaningful release for the band and their fans. A brand-new official music video for “Get Back Again”- directed by Cleveland Henderson, son of Pete Henderson who had previously directed many videos of the band including the award winning “Locked In The Trunk Of A Car” and “Courage (For Hugh MacLennan),” will premiere tonight at 7:00PM on The Tragically Hip’s YouTube.
Established in 1984, this year marks 40 Years of The Tragically Hip – a milestone for the beloved band. 2024 sees The Tragically Hip break open the archives; reminiscing with fans on four decades of music, friendship and philanthropy. The band’s legacy will be honoured with a yearlong celebration, which started with the designation of the Record Store Day Canada Ambassadors, later the launch of a four-part Amazon Prime Documentary titled No Dress Rehearsal and on October 1 the release of a deluxe, hand-crafted book titled This Is Our Life, the band’s story as told in their own words and features more than 300 pages of unseen rarities pulled from the band’s personal collections. The Up To Here boxset celebrates the early days of The Tragically Hip and is the latest installment of a series of reissues released over the last few years honouring the band’s extensive catalogue – Road Apples 30th Anniversary Deluxe Boxset (2021), Fully Completely Vinyl Release (2022), Phantom Power 25th Anniversary Deluxe Boxset (2023).

The CBMA continues to celebrate Black music all summer-long with the end of June bringing the opening of The Little Jamaica Music History Walking Tour. Beginning on Thursday June 27th, the Little Jamaica Music History Walking Tour takes participants on an exploration of the Eglinton Ave. West community that has brought Caribbean music, culture, and history to the city for decades. The tours will continue for the rest of the summer twice a month until September.
Join the CBMA in continuing the celebration of Black music history.
