Mercury Studios To Release “Have You Got It Yet?” The Story Of Syd Barrett And Pink Floyd On DVD, Blu-Ray, And Digital

0

Mercury Studios, Universal Music Group’s innovative and multi-faceted content studio, is proud to announce the DVD+Blu-ray release of the critically acclaimed documentary film Have You Got It Yet?, a compelling dive into the life and genius of Syd Barrett, of Pink Floyd fame. The film will also be made available on digital formats, as well as On Demand.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Roddy Bogawa and the late, acclaimed album cover designer Storm Thorgerson (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, and Black Sabbath), and produced by Orian Williams (England Is Mine, Creation Stories, Control), the feature length documentary drew praise for its candid glimpse into the prismatic character and artistry of Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett. Visionaries behind prog rock and British psychedelic music, Pink Floyd chartered a monolithic legacy in both music and cultural history. Syd, who gave the group their moniker by combining the names of two obscure blues players – Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, played a crucial role in igniting that history, then left the group before they met stardom.

Released in cinemas worldwide in Summer 2023, Have You Got It Yet? achieved a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a successful theatrical run with many sold-out screenings. Intimate interviews with band members David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Roger Waters uncover Barrett’s ongoing impact on the group. Going a step further, the film also includes an interview with Syd’s sister, Rosemary Breen. Narrated by actor Jason Isaacs, the film also features original band managers Peter Jenner and Andrew King, as well as The Who’s Pete Townshend and Blur’s Graham Coxon.

In addition to the full-length film, the DVD+Blu-ray set includes a plethora of bonus features. Two poignant live performances of “Arnold Layne” are highlighted – this first features David Gilmour & David Bowie (originally released in David Gilmour’s Remember That Night Live At The Royal Albert Hall, 2007). The second is a performance from 2007’s The Madcap’s Last Laugh – a tribute concert for Syd Barrett featuring David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright in their final performance as Pink Floyd.

Additionally, the DVD+Blu-ray includes an interview with Bogawa and director & producer commentary of the film with Bogawa, Rupert Truman, and Julius Beltrame. Further exploring his creative works, the set features discussions surrounding Barrett’s paintings, and spoken word performances of Barrett’s lyrics by comedian Noel Fielding (“Dark Globe”), poet Rob Fitterman (“Rats”) and actor Gerard Bell (“Lucifer Sam”). The package, designed by StormStudios, is completed with an exclusive Have You Got It Yet? poster, which was also designed by the studio.

Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd crystallized a cultural moment where anything seemed possible but where that freedom could come with a cost. Was Syd just another drug casualty? Did he suffer from an undiagnosed mental condition? Or did he dislike the attention and fame as the fun turned to work? While there are no clear answers which might be the case, there is the feeling by all those around Syd that something went terribly wrong. Have You Got it Yet? is a chronicle and a mosaic of Barrett’s creative and destructive impulses, his captivating presence and absence – a portrait of the complex puzzle that was his life”.

Virtual Reality Slots: The Next Big Thing in Online Gaming

0

By Mitch Rice

Virtual Reality (VR) technology has dramatically transformed the landscape of digital entertainment, offering immersive experiences that were once the stuff of science fiction. In the gaming industry, VR has taken a foothold by enhancing the user experience, providing a new level of depth and interaction. Among the many applications of this technology, virtual reality slots are emerging as a particularly exciting development in the realm of online gaming.

Understanding Virtual Reality Slots

Virtual reality slots are a type of online casino game where players can engage in slot machine gameplay within a fully immersive VR environment. By donning a VR headset, players can enter a three-dimensional world where slot machines feel as real as those found in a land-based casino. The realism doesn’t stop at visuals; with VR, the sound, environment, and even the interaction with machines mimic real-life conditions, making the experience thrilling and engaging.

How VR Slots Enhance Player Experience

Virtual reality slots go beyond traditional slot online by offering a multisensory experience that can include touch, sound, and visual feedback that adjusts as you explore the game. Players can walk around the virtual casino, interact with other players, and experience the excitement of hitting a jackpot in a way that feels much more tangible and exciting compared to clicking a button on a screen.

The Technology Behind Virtual Reality Slots

To enjoy VR slots, players typically need a VR headset such as the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or Sony PlayStation VR. These devices are equipped with high-resolution displays and motion tracking technology, which are crucial for creating a believable and interactive virtual environment. Additionally, a sufficiently powerful PC or gaming console is required to handle the detailed graphics and the processing power needed for a seamless VR experience.

Software Innovations

The software that powers VR slots is more complex than that of standard online slots. It needs to not only manage the regular mechanics of slot gaming but also integrate with VR hardware to track player movements, manage interactions with the game environment, and render high-definition graphics in real-time.

The Benefits of Virtual Reality Slots

One of the main advantages of VR slots over traditional online slots is the level of engagement they offer. The immersive nature of VR can lead to higher player retention rates as users are not merely participating in a game but are being transported into a different world, which can be a highly addictive and enjoyable experience.

Attracting a New Demographic

VR slots have the potential to attract a demographic that might not typically be interested in online gambling. Younger gamers who are looking for cutting-edge technology and a more interactive gaming experience may find VR slots appealing, broadening the audience for online casinos.

Potential for Social Interaction

Unlike traditional online slots, VR slots can include a social aspect. Players might be able to talk to each other, share tips, and celebrate wins together in a virtual casino, making it a more communal and interactive experience.

Future Trends in VR Slots

As VR technology evolves, we can expect VR slots to become even more interactive. This could include more realistic slot machines, the ability to manipulate virtual objects, and even more complex player-to-player interactions.

Integration with Other Technologies

Looking ahead, VR slots might integrate with other technologies, such as augmented reality (AR) or artificial intelligence (AI). This could lead to hybrid experiences that blend real-world and virtual elements or smarter, more responsive gaming environments that adapt to individual player preferences and habits.

Regulatory and Ethical Considerations

As with any emerging technology, there are regulatory and ethical considerations. Ensuring fair play, preventing addiction, and protecting privacy in a much more immersive environment will be crucial as VR slots become more prevalent.

Conclusion

Virtual reality slots represent a significant step forward in the evolution of online gaming. They offer a combination of excitement, interactivity, and realism that traditional online slots can’t match. As technology continues to advance, VR slots are poised to become a major force in both the gaming and gambling industries, potentially changing how we think about and engage with online casinos.

Verve Records To Release ‘Louis in London,’ The Last Great Performance From Louis Armstrong

0

Verve Records is proud to announce LOUIS IN LONDON, the last great performance by the most influential American musician of all time, Louis Armstrong. Recorded live at the BBC on July 2, 1968 – just weeks after the groundbreaking GRAMMY Award-winning artist hit the #1 spot on the UK charts with “What A Wonderful World” – the 13-track collection will be released on standard black and exclusive blue vinyl, CD, and digital, accompanied by extensive liner notes by Armstrong’s biographer and Director of Research Collections for the Louis Armstrong House Museum, Ricky Riccardi, on Friday, July 12.

From redefining jazz with his revolutionary trumpet playing to singlehandedly inventing popular singing, Louis Armstrong made a greater impact on American popular music than any other single artist before or since. In July 1968, Armstrong and his renowned band, The All-Stars, travelled to England and entered the BBC’s London studios to record a performance, full of vitality and joy, that manifested some of the most inspired singing and trumpet playing of his remarkable career.

Captured in high fidelity audio and video, LOUIS IN LONDON presents Armstrong delivering everything from the first composition he’s known to have played in public – W.C. Handy’s “Ole Miss” – to the chart-topping “What A Wonderful World” and classic versions of such worldwide hits as “Mack The Knife” and “Hello, Dolly!,” the latter of which premieres today alongside a high definition official performance video streaming now at YouTube.

First broadcast on September 22, 1968 as BBC TV’s “Show Of The Week – Louis Armstrong,” the session poignantly proved to be Armstrong’s last great performance. From the moment Armstrong received a copy of the 1968 London recording, he became determined for the world to hear this music, affixing a note to the outside of the tape box on which he wrote, “For The Fans.” Armstrong sent copies of the BBC concert to friends and played them whenever he received visitors. Though he could have chosen any number of remarkable recordings, including his iconic collaborations with Ella Fitzgerald, he instead returned again and again to the BBC session from the summer of 1968. Now, more than five decades since his passing, LOUIS IN LONDON will at long last be officially shared with the world.

“Knowing how badly he wanted his friends and fans to hear this music while he was still alive,” writes Ricky Riccardi in the album’s exclusive liner notes, “it’s a great source of pride to know that it will now be enjoyed by new generations, including many fans who weren’t even alive at the time Armstrong passed, but who are still inspired by his music and his joy.

“Armstrong once claimed he was here ‘in the cause of happiness.’ All these decades later, albums like LOUIS IN LONDON continue his life’s mission at a time when we still need to be reminded that maybe it still is a wonderful world and maybe we’ll never walk alone after all.”

Fleetwood Mac’s New Compilation Spotlights 19 Essential Tracks From The Band’s First Seven Reprise Albums

0

In the late 1960s, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, John McVie, and Jeremy Spencer laid the foundation for what would become one of the most storied and successful bands in rock history, Fleetwood Mac. Now, Rhino is celebrating the band’s transformative early days with a compilation that features 19 essential tracks.

BEST OF FLEETWOOD MAC (1969-1974) will be available on July 26 from Rhino on CD, 2-LP 180-gram black vinyl, & 2-LP brick & mortar exclusive on sea-blue vinyl. Pre-Order HERE.

The new collection spans a prolific five-year period that began in 1969 after the band signed with Reprise Records. It includes songs selected from seven studio albums: Then Play On (1969), Kiln House (1970), Future Games (1971), Bare Trees (1972), Penguin (1973), Mystery To Me (1973), and Heroes Are Hard To Find (1974).

Those albums fueled Fleetwood Mac’s early popularity in the U.K. and catapulted them into the Top Ten with singles like “Oh Well – Pt. 1” and “The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown).” Both tracks are included in the collection along with fan favorites like “Rattlesnake Shake,” “Station Man,” “Sentimental Lady,” “Spare Me A Little Of Your Love,” and “Remember Me.”

Between 1969 and 1974, Fleetwood Mac experienced near-constant changes in membership. The new compilation provides a showcase for each lineup, with songs featuring nearly every member from this era, including founders Fleetwood, Green, McVie, and Spencer, plus Christine McVie, Danny Kirwan, Bob Welch, and Bob Weston.

James McNair’s new liner notes accompany the compilation and expertly navigate the band’s twisting timeline during this period. He writes: “By the time of Fleetwood Mac’s winter 1971 U.S. tour, Christine McVie was a fully-fledged member. Her keyboard-playing and co-lead vocals alongside those of Kirwan and Spencer were integral in the wake of Green’s departure…Alas, any calm seas were short-lived; Fleetwood Mac was still a volatile ship. Spencer, too, was about to go missing in action.”
