Linkin Park Unveil Career-Spanning Album Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023)

0

Assembling an essential collection of generational anthems, LINKIN PARK will present their first-ever career-spanning greatest hits album entitled Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023) on April 12TH via Warner Records.

It will be available at all DSPs and in various physical configurations, including CD, Cassette, and double Vinyl. For the latter, there are several limited edition color vinyl variants, a Zoetrope picture disc and black vinyl.

The fan enthusiasm and fervor for both Hybrid Theory (20TH Anniversary Edition) in 2020 and Meteora (20TH Anniversary Edition) last year ultimately inspired the band to curate and carefully piece together what would become Papercuts. It offers a comprehensive retrospective of their journey so far in the span of one album highlighted by everything from “Crawling” and “Somewhere I Belong” to the sought-after rarity “QWERTY.”

In addition to the classics, LINKIN PARK uncovered the never-before-released track “Friendly Fire.” Recorded during the 2017 sessions for their seventh album One More Light, it features a powerhouse vocal performance from the late Chester Bennington. The video was directed and edited by long-time collaborator Mark Fiore and features never-before-seen studio and live footage – watch HERE. Cinematic keys and a delicate beat underline emotionally charged verses as humming guitar uplifts the introspective chorus, “We’re pulling apart for no reason, we’re pulling a trigger in a useless war…what are we fighting for.” It embodies the style, soul, and spirit of classic LP.

About “Friendly Fire” Brad Delson added, “‘Friendly Fire’ was always one of our favorite songs from the One More Light sessions. Something about it wasn’t quite right so as close as it got to the finish line, we chose to set it aside for later. When we started looking for an unreleased track to include on our greatest hits collection, I was blown away by the power of the song, the power of the storytelling, the power of the vocal, the sonic landscape and I actually thought that it was closer than maybe we had realized at the time.

We got together to work on it and connect some of the missing pieces that for whatever reason hadn’t revealed themselves during the recording of One More Light. I can’t wait for people to hear it. It’s such a beautiful, compelling, heartbreaking, hopeful story and it really resonates with me today.”

Said Mike Shinoda, “In the making of each Linkin Park album, I want to love and believe in each individual song completely. I hope that if any one track is heard on its own in the world, it is something I can feel proud of, and something that takes root inside the listener and becomes part of the energy that connects us.

Curating the tracks for Papercuts was a joy. Each song in this collection is both a singular moment on our timeline and an evolving story that is as much ours as it is yours. From our first release ‘One Step Closer’ to the brand-new ‘Friendly Fire,’ this tracklist spans all our chapters so far. Thank you for being a part of our journey. We hope you enjoy Papercuts.”

Additionally, “In The End” just achieved a Diamond Certification (10x Million) from the RIAA. It stands out as the band’s most-streamed song with over 1.8 billion Spotify streams and 1.7 billion YouTube views on the music video. This marks their first Diamond Certification for a single. It notably graces the tracklisting of their 12x-platinum Diamond-Certified full-length debut, Hybrid Theory.

In 2023, LINKIN PARK unleashed Meteora 20th Anniversary Edition. It soared to #1 on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart, Top Rock Albums Chart, Top Catalog Albums Chart, and Top Vinyl Albums Chart in addition to landing in the Top 3 of the Top Album Sales Chart and vaulting into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 at #8. Not to mention, the single “Lost” took flight as the biggest rock song of 2023 and earned the “first #1 debut on Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay Chart in over a decade!” Simultaneously, it became the band’s highest-charting Billboard Hot 100 entry since 2012, bowing at #38! Thus far, it has amassed over 166 million Spotify streams and 78 million YouTube views on the stunning music video. Meteora 20th Anniversary Edition was chronicled and celebrated by The New York Times, The FADER, The Howard Stern Show, KROQ, and more.

LINKIN PARK emerged as an innovative musical force and one of the best-selling artists of the last twenty years. Their RIAA Diamond-certified full-length debut, Hybrid Theory, stands out as the “best selling debut of the 21st century,” while landmark sophomore album Meteora bowed at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 before going 8X-Platinum in the U.S. The band’s worldwide sales across the entire catalog eclipses 100 million, and among numerous accolades and honors, they have garnered 2 GRAMMY® Awards, 5 American Music Awards, 4 MTV VMA Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards and 3 World Music Awards. Selling out stadiums worldwide, they’ve headlined global music festivals such as Download and Reading & Leeds in the UK, Rock in Rio in Portugal, Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park in Germany, and Summer Sonic in Japan. They also remain the first and only Western rock band to play a five-stadium tour in China. 2017’s Gold-certified One More Light marked their fifth #1 debut on the Billboard 200. In 2020, the band celebrated their groundbreaking debut album, Hybrid Theory, by releasing a comprehensive 20th anniversary edition super deluxe box set which features their RIAA Diamond-certified single “In The End.”. In 2023, the band released Meteora 20th Anniversary Edition, which topped the charts and featured the newly-uncovered song “Lost.” The emotionally charged single was originally recorded during sessions for their second studio album Meteora (2003), and soon after its February 10, 2023 release, “Lost” hit #1 at both Alternative and Rock radio

ABOUT LINKIN PARK:

My Next Read: “Charles Peterson’s Nirvana”

0

For millennia, “nirvana” has been a term associated with belief systems of the Indian subcontinent. But in 1988, a band from a small coastal town in Washington state decided to create some new associations with this word . . . through their music.

Active for just six years, Nirvana left an indelible mark on the late twentieth century that remains visible today. Photographer and self-described “music fanatic” Charles Peterson, a fellow twenty-something from the suburbs of Seattle, was present with his camera as a genre took form, and his images have become synonymous with the sounds, styles, movement and attitude known as Grunge.

Charles Peterson’s Nirvana, in the tradition of many great documentary photobooks, expands beyond Peterson’s iconic images of the band seen repeatedly over the last thirty years (on album covers, in magazines, and in dozens of compilation books and exhibitions focused on this music and its birth era) to highlight gems never before published. Over a five-year photo edit, Peterson looked at each one of thousands of frames, considering what drew him to Nirvana in the first place—their music. He honed in on compositions that stimulated visceral memories of their live performances.

The resulting selection of photographs and their carefully constructed sequence mash up venues and years, suffering and the sublime, to arrive at a visual experience that one cannot help but also feel, and hear.

The Official Soundtrack To ‘Eno’ – A Definitive Documentary About Visionary Musician And Artist, Brian Eno Out April 19

0

The official soundtrack to the 2024 Gary Hustwit documentary film Eno will be released by UMR/Universal Music Canada on April 19 (North America and Mexico LP/ CD release date Jun 7th).

The hugely influential musician, producer, visual artist and activist is the subject of a new career spanning documentary that is uniquely generative: a film that’s different every time it’s screened. Compiled from hundreds of hours of video footage, music and interviews, the film explores Eno’s music, art and ideas, giving the viewer intimate personal insights into his creative processes.

Accompanying this groundbreaking new film is a soundtrack that serves as a companion audio journey touching on Eno’s output throughout his rich career. The 17 tracks included on the album feature work from early solo outings such as 1974’s Taking Tiger Mountain and 75’s Another Green World, acclaimed collaborations with the likes of David Bryne, John Cale, Cluster and more recently, Fred again… all the way through to music from his latest album, FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE, and his 2022 appearance at the Acropolis in Athens with brother Roger.

Whilst it would take a very extensive box set to fully cover Eno’s work over the past 50 years – including his ambient pieces for which he is known, some of which are album length, various other notable collaborations, the All Saints, Warp and Opal years, this release has managed to fit music from 14 different albums throughout his entire recording career. Within it are 3 previously unreleased recordings, and the first, “Lighthouse #429” is released today. This instrumental track is taken from Eno’s Sonos radio station, The Lighthouse, where the programming exclusively delves into his extensive archive spanning his career. “Lighthouse #429” is the first track to have had a public release from the station.

On Eno’s creative process ~ “Picasso once said: ‘Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working’. I don’t wait to be inspired: I start working and (if I’m lucky) I become ‘inspired’. And if I’m not lucky I keep at it until my luck changes. I’m obstinate and confident that I will get somewhere in the end if I keep at it.”

For the past 5 decades, Brian Eno has been at the forefront of musical creativity, technology, and artistic innovation. This self-described “sonic landscaper” began his career as an original member of the legendary Roxy Music in the early 1970s.

He left the band to release a series of solo records and later pioneered the genre of ambient music with his 1978 album Ambient 1: Music for Airports. As a producer, Brian Eno has helped define and reinvent the sound of some of the most important artists in music, including David Bowie, U2, Talking Heads, Coldplay, and dozens of others. He also composed what may be the most heard piece of music in the world: the startup sound for Microsoft Windows. Undeniably, Eno has changed the way modern music is made.

The definitive documentary about visionary musician, artist and activist, Eno is a typically groundbreaking project – a feature film that’s never the same twice. Hustwit and creative technologist Brendan Dawes have developed bespoke generative software designed to sequence scenes and create transitions out of Hustwit’s original interviews with Eno, and Eno’s rich archive of never- before-seen footage, and unreleased music. Each screening of Eno is unique, presenting different scenes, order, music, and meant to be experienced live. The generative and infinitely iterative quality of Eno poetically resonates with the artist’s own creative practice, his methods of using technology to compose music, and his endless deep dive into the mercurial essence of creativity.

Hustwit’s collaboration with Eno first began in 2017, when Eno created an original score for Hustwit’s film Rams, about the German designer Dieter Rams. Says Hustwit, “Much of Brian’s career has been about enabling creativity in himself and others, through his role as a producer but also through his collaborations on projects like the Oblique Strategies cards or the music app Bloom. I think of Eno as an art film about creativity, with the output of Brian’s 50-year career as its raw material. What I’m trying to do is to create a cinematic experience that’s as innovative as Brian’s approach to music and art.”

Legendary Children’s Troubadour Raffi Announces New Album ‘Penny Penguin’

0

Legendary children’s musician and global troubadour, Raffi announces the release of Penny Penguin, his 24th studio album, in collaboration with the JUNO award-winning folk-pop trio, Good Lovelies. Arriving on CD and digital platforms on April 19th, Penny Penguin features 14 tracks that kids and families will love, including “JIMBO,” “The Birdies Sing,” and the title track.

Beginning today, fans of all ages can enjoy “Penny Penguin” on streaming platforms, while the song’s video (which showcases drawings of the title character submitted by Raffi fans aged 10 years and younger) can be viewed here. Among the submissions, was an inspired portrait of Penny by 7-year-old Aiden Lederman of California, which was chosen by Raffi to grace the album’s cover.

Fans can sing along with Raffi during a series of North American tour dates, with stops in Philadelphia, Toronto, and Providence, RI, among others. The run begins May 11th at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ, with shows continuing throughout the fall. Scroll down for a full list of dates, and visit Raffi’s official website for tickets and more info.

The story behind Penny Penguin begins in the spring of 2023, when Raffi, attended a house concert by Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough, and Sue Passmore of Good Lovelies. The celebrated Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer not only became a fan of the Toronto-based trio but soon struck up a friendship with the trio.

Before long, Raffi recalls, “Dreams of singing together soon turned into the music on Penny Penguin. Remote rehearsals went so well that I went from thinking Good Lovelies would sing on a few songs to happily recording their voices on ten of the 14 songs on the album. Songs about hummingbirds, dogs, peace, and much more all sparkle with a fresh sound, a joyful energy.”

That sparkly freshness includes a host of new Raffi classics for his youngest generation of fans. Among them is the cheerful “Penny Penguin,” which offers a tale about a young penguin as she goes about her day in the snow. Other original highlights include “Much More Love,” “Hum Hummingbird,” “The Birdies Sing,” and “Peekaboo Song.” The track list also features a variety of classics—including traditional songs like “Peace Like a River,” “Wild Mountain Thyme,” and a French children’s lullaby, “Doucement s’en va le jour,” as well as the Ella Jenkins-penned “You’ll Sing a Song.”

The Good Lovelies, meanwhile, add magic to ten tracks with their vibrant vocal harmonies. Having grown up with Raffi’s music, all three women were thrilled to have the opportunity to perform alongside him. The widely acclaimed trio, who recently released their seventh studio album, We Will Never Be the Same (via Outside Music), have long enjoyed an international following for their dynamic blend of folk, country, and pop—as well as their intricate, three-part harmonies.

Raffi, meanwhile, has long been hailed as the world’s best-selling and most influential children’s entertainer, with over 15 million in album sales and nearly 1 billion streams—all of which have been enjoyed (and passed down) by generations of fans (“Baby Beluga grads”) over the past five decades. A multiple GRAMMY® nominee and Juno winner, among other awards and recognitions, the Canadian musician, author, and advocate holds five honorary degrees and is a recipient of the Order of Canada—the country’s highest civilian honour.

Raffi maintains an active schedule in the studio and on the road and fans can catch him later this year, with dates in the US and Canada (see dates below).

Arguably one of the most influential and successful children’s entertainer of the last 50 years, Raffi has delighted successive generations of kids (and their parents) with his playful, exuberant personality and his irresistibly infectious songs. The Canadian artist has released albums including such beloved titles as Singable Songs for the Very Young (1976), Baby Beluga (1980), Bananaphone (1994), and, most recently, Nursery Rhymes for Kinder Times with Lindsay Munroe (2022). Collectively, he has sold almost 20 million albums, while his music has seen nearly one billion streams across all platforms.

Beyond the studio, Raffi is an award-winning author, who has written more than a dozen books for children and adults. He has also emerged as a respected advocate on behalf of children, lending his voice, insight, and experience to a number of crucial issues through the Raffi Foundation for Child Honouring, a unifying vision with the child at its heart by which societies can re-order their priorities to restore our planet and build community.

Praised by the Washington Post as “the most popular children’s singer in the English-speaking world,” Raffi is a recipient of the Order of Canada—the country’s highest civilian honour. A multiple GRAMMY nominee and Juno winner, Raffi has also been recognized with a United Nations Environmental Achievement Award and the Fred Rogers Integrity Award, among countless honors over the decades.

OSHEAGA 2024 | Your 2024 Festival Lineup is here!

0

The 2024 edition of the OSHEAGA Music and Arts Festival presented by Bell in collaboration with Coors Light is fast approaching and this year’s wide array of performers is nothing short of exceptional – balancing legends with up-and-comers, high energy with intimacy, and all the bombast fans have come to expect from a leading-edge top-tier festival. For the 17th edition, the OSHEAGA booking team has curated the festival with the express mission of appealing to fans of every genre, style, and generation.

Starting with the three exceptional headliners on down, there is something for everyone, and discoveries galore! Green Day sets the tone for the rock and punk crowd, with plenty of punk rock fire to please the fans, courtesy of old school legends Rancid, LA rockers The Linda Lindas, 90’s indie favourites Sleater-Kinney, and grunge icons The Smashing Pumpkins, who haven’t graced the OSHEAGA stage since the festival’s 2nd edition in back in 2007!

2024’s biggest musical force, SZA, is headlining OSHEAGA this year, as well, and her R&B and pop influences can be felt throughout, with plenty of soulful vibes, including legendary hip-hop pioneer T-Pain, making his debut at the festival. The lineup also includes a wide variety of Afrobeat and Afropop performers like recent GRAMMY winner Tyla, who took home THE FIRST EVER Best African Music Performance award at the 2024 GRAMMYs for her worldwide smash hit, “Water”, as well as Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, and Haiti’s Michaël Brun – if his memorable sold-out show at the last year’s Festival International de Jazz de Montréal was any indication, this performance will be a massive party!

Noah Kahan’s headline performance will be one of his very rare festival appearances this summer. Hozier, who sold out Place Bell last year in front of an adoring crowd, will take the stage with his magnetic stage presence. One of the most exciting names on this year’s lineup is new Mean Girl, Reneé Rapp, the Broadway star with incredibly powerful pipes who delivered a much-talked about sold-out show at MTELUS last October. Stephen Sanchez, who seems to come from a bygone era, always adds a little danger to his timeless music. Teddy Swims, another big voice currently trending huge on TikTok with his genre-bending roots style will join the lineup, as well as Melanie Martinez, the alt-pop phenom with over 12 billion streams.

Rap and electro will be well represented from the underground to the top of the charts, with highly anticipated performances from legends like Denzel Curry; Bronx rapper Lil Tjay – who blew the roof off Place Bell in 2022; Swedish sensation Bladee (with his highly experimental beat-driven tunes); Skepta, the trailblazing British rapper who mixes UK grime vocals with Afrobeat influences, Belgian’s Hamza, who will, no doubt enchant the crowd with his signature silky French rap style, and Moroccan rapper ElGrandeToto.

Those looking to dance it up will be happy to know that Martin Garrix, the wildly popular dutch DJ/producer who absolutely killed it headlining at last year’s îLESONIQ will surely have the crowd chanting for more, while French super duo, Justice, make their triumphant return to the OSHEAGA stage in support of their upcoming album – their first in 7 years! UK artist/producer, Labrinth (known, amongst other things, for composing the music from the series Euphoria) will also be making a rare appearance this year! The festival will once more be host to inimitable DJs like Uncle Waffles and Mochakk, while dancers will be able to enjoy live performances from Overmono, Irène Drésel, Gryffin, Confidence Man and Romy (from The XX).

More than ever, OSHEAGA is proud to present some of the best acts from our own backyard, with a focus on homegrown acts – something that has been a priority since Day 1. One third of the stellar lineup is from Quebec and Canada, including acts like Ontario’s TALK, a bilingual artist with a massive following in La belle province with 5 Juno nominations at this year’s upcoming gala. Prince Edward Island indie rockers, Alvvays, will also be performing, as well as funky Quebec favourites Clay and Friends, Félix Award winner, CRi, whose dreamy electronic music has been embraced by fans all over the world, and Montreal hip hop trio, Planet Giza with their smooth beats and top notch flow.

Over the years, OSHEAGA has become a global reference for great music and top-notch festival experiences. Fans now come to the festival to live something they cannot find anywhere else. It’s an indescribable feeling when arriving on-site: the city skyline in the background, a wide variety of top-tier artists, the new talent on multiple stages, all over a perfect island setting.

Foo Fighters to Perform at Power to the Patients Concert in Washington D.C.

0

On Tuesday, March 5, Foo Fighters will take a rare detour from stadium, arena and amphitheater stages to perform at a private one-night-only concert in Washington, D.C. hosted by Power to the Patients, a non-profit fighting for a more affordable, accessible, and equitable healthcare system through true price transparency. Hip hop legends Fat Joe and Chuck D will also be in attendance.

“When we were asked by Power to the Patients to help raise awareness of the need for transparency in healthcare pricing, we immediately said yes. People suffering from illness and injury shouldn’t have to worry about being bankrupted by surprise charges for their treatment.” — Foo Fighters

With lawmakers, government officials, and their dedicated staff in attendance, Foo Fighters will join the drive to raise awareness about the inequality and uncertainty created for millions of patients when hospitals and insurers hide actual upfront prices. With more than 100 million Americans suffering from medical debt due to surprise bills and lack of accountability, it’s time for all elected officials to come together and turn the page on our nation’s broken and opaque healthcare system.

Upfront prices empower patients to make informed decisions, take control of their health, and lower their costs.  All consumers have the right to know the actual price of their care before they receive it. If you believe you have been overcharged for healthcare, or if the price you were quoted doesn’t match your bill, you can find information and resources about how to fight your bills by visiting PowertothePatients.org.

Rising Powerhouse Vocalist Alicia Creti Releases Debut EP ‘Self/Less’

0

Rising powerhouse vocalist, Alicia Creti, releases her debut EP, Self/Less. The EP is accompanied by her sixth single and visual for “Going Down.” Self/Less chronicles the journey of a young woman reclaiming her true self. Tired of being “less” and yearning to be “more” for herself, she invites fans to join her on a path of self-discovery. We implore you to accept less negativity, fewer criticisms, and less of whatever holds you back.

Self/Less also comes on the heels of the recent announcement of Alicia providing direct support on Mahalia’s upcoming “IRL North American Tour” kicking off on February 20th in Vancouver and wrapping on March 26th in Chicago. Tickets to the tour can be purchased on www.mahaliamusic.co.uk/tour/. Self/Less also serves as the follow-up to previously released singles “Self/Less,” “Crazy,” “Guilt Trip,” “Pity Party” and her debut single, “Strange.” Each single is included on Alicia’s upcoming EP, Self/Less, out today. Her debut EP tells the unfolding of a toxic and painful relationship.

Alicia Creti is an unstoppable force in the world of music, pouring her heart and soul into every note with a delivery that is both distinct and dynamically charged. At the age of 24, the Montreal-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and pianist emerged as a rising sensation, captivating millions with a soulful rendition of Summer Walker’s “Session 32” and sustaining that momentum with captivating covers of Kehlani, Jazmine Sullivan, and Ari Lennox. With commanding soulful vocals and poignant songwriting, Alicia skillfully weaves a tapestry of self-reflection, heartbreak, and the myriad facets of the human experience, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in the pages of her personal journal. Her sound is a breath of fresh air, transcending genre boundaries with a compelling touch of nostalgic soul. Building on the triumph of her 2022 single “Congratulations” and 2023 releases “Strange” and “Crazy,” Alicia is set to unveil her highly anticipated debut EP, Self/Less, offering a narrative journey of a young woman reclaiming her authentic self. Fatigued by the confines of being “less” and driven to become “more” for herself, she extends an open invitation for fans to accompany her on a profound path of self-discovery.
