ABBA Set To Reissue ‘Waterloo’ For 50th Anniversary

0

My, my! Fifty years after ABBA’s international breakthrough with “Waterloo” in the Eurovision Song Contest, Polar Music International celebrates this milestone. When Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid “Frida” Lyngstad entered the already colourful stage at The Dome in Brighton, England on April 6, 1974, dressed in shiny glam-rock costumes typical of the era, the world of pop changed forever.

The Waterloo album is now reissued as a Half-Speed mastered 45RPM 2LP Vinyl, along with a limited edition box set of the three vinyl singles originally released by Polar in 1974; the singles are also available as separate picture discs. To top it all off, there is a unique 10-inch vinyl disc featuring “Waterloo” in four different languages and a new line of anniversary apparel taking it back to the 70’s. Pre-order it HERE.

Waterloo, ABBA’s second album, was first released in Sweden in March 1974. It was an enormous success: up to that point, no other album had sold as many copies in the group’s home country. And no wonder, as Björn and Benny had written, arranged and produced a string of great songs, most of them graced by the compelling lead vocals of Agnetha and Frida. The Waterloo album offers many riches beyond the title track. There is the breezy “Honey, Honey”, a highly familiar tune in the 21st century through its inclusion in the Mamma Mia! musical; “Hasta Mañana”, a tear-drenched ballad that almost became ABBA’s Eurovision entry; the early 1960s pop of “Dance (While The Music Still Goes On)” – and much more.

Dr. Dre And Snoop Dogg Launch Ready To Drink Gin & Juice By Dre And Snoop

0

Musical and cultural icons Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg kicked off the rollout of Gin & Juice By Dre and Snoop, the first ready to drink product from their new premium spirits company, with a surprise performance at the Super Bowl afterparty last night in Las Vegas.

Three decades after “Gin & Juice” left an indelible mark on popular culture and helped establish Dre and Snoop as groundbreaking hip-hop superstars, the pair are now known as much for their wide-ranging entrepreneurial ventures as for their game-changing music. With their premium beverage Gin & Juice By Dre and Snoop, they’re taking over some new territory — the spirits industry.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Snoop’s classic debut album, Doggystyle, produced by Dr. Dre, the canned beverage is named, of course, for Snoop’s beloved, Grammy-nominated 1994 classic song “Gin & Juice,” and comes in four flavors: Citrus, Melon, Passionfruit, and Apricot. The canned cocktails are premium gin-based cocktails, crafted for an innovative experience with packaging designed by Ini Archibong. Product will be rolling out domestically throughout the US now through early spring. More offerings from the brand will be announced in the future.

“Together, we always try to create magic, we’re having fun being creative, and everything about this product is really us,” says Dr. Dre. “There’s passion behind it, and friendship and love and a culture. We’re shooting to make everything we do magnificent, and fortunately, most of the time we hit the target.” “Look where we’re at in our careers,” says Snoop Dogg. “Look at our age and look at what we’ve done, and we still love each other, so why not do something together? A lot of times people have been in a relationship for thirty years and can’t talk to each other, can’t hang out, so it’s just fun to be in a partnership with people that you actually love.”

Gin & Juice By Dre and Snoop will be distributed nationally through Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, the largest beverage distributor in the U.S. The spirit company will be led by Patrick Halbert, Andrew Gill andRocco Milano, the founders from On The Rocks Cocktails. In addition to Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, investors include Jimmy Iovine, Main Street Advisors, Marc Rowan and Tom Werner.

Pearl Jam Announce New Album, Dark Matter, Out April 19, 2024 And World Tour

0

Pearl Jam will release their twelfth studio album, Dark Matter, on Monkeywrench Records/Republic Records/Universal Music Canada on April 19, 2024 and launch a 35-date worldwide tour this May. The album’s title track is available now HERE. Produced by multi-GRAMMY award winning producer Andrew Watt, Dark Matter, marks the band’s first release since critically acclaimed Gigaton (2020).

Dark Matter is now available for pre-order HERE.

In 2023, the members of Pearl Jam—Eddie Vedder [vocals], Jeff Ament [bass], Stone Gossard [rhythm guitar], Mike McCready [lead guitar], and Matt Cameron [drums]—retreated to Shangri-La Studios in Malibu where they simply plugged in and played with producer Andrew Watt at the helm.

The musicians faced one another in the same space and communicated sonically at the highest level. Writing and recording in a burst of inspiration, Dark Matter was born in just three weeks.

As a result, Dark Matter channels the shared spirit of a group of lifelong creative confidants and brothers in one room playing as if their very lives depended on it. All of the blood, sweat, tears, and energy of a storied career felt renewed and poured into this one body of work.

The band members personally previewed the record with a listening party at the iconic Troubadour in West Hollywood during GRAMMY week:

Vedder said: “I’m getting chills, because I have good memories. We’re still looking for ways to communicate. We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think is our best work. No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”

Ament added, “What Ed said about getting us in a room at this point, we felt like we were about to make a really important record. A lot of that had to do with the atmosphere Andrew set up. He has encyclopedic knowledge of our history, not only as a band and how we wrote songs, but as players. He could pinpoint things we did on old songs to the point where I was like, ‘What the fuck is he talking about?’ His excitement was contagious. He’s a force. I just want to say thanks for keeping us on track. I couldn’t be prouder of us as a band. I feel so grateful for the fans, but mostly for my brothers and these people I’ve made music with.”

The band is celebrating indie record stores with the release of a special edition of Dark Matter on April 20. Only at participating stores as part of Record Store Day. Get more information and find stores at www.recordstoreday.com

Dark Matter album packaging features light painting art by Alexandr Gnezdilov. Light painting is an artistic form of photography where images are created by adjusting a camera’s exposure for an extended period and using a light source, such as a flashlight, to “paint” in the dark. The album cover art was crafted using a large self-made kaleidoscope. Each letter visible on the cover was individually captured and handwritten midair with a specially designed flashlight to create the pearlescent effect. See more info on Alexandr Gnezdilov below.

Pearl Jam is an alternative rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. The band’s lineup consists of bassist Jeff Ament, rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard, lead guitarist Mike McCready, lead singer/guitarist Eddie Vedder and drummer Matt Cameron. Thirty plus years of live performances, twelve studio albums and hundreds of official live concert bootleg releases later, Pearl Jam continues to be critically acclaimed and commercially successful. The band has sold over 85 million albums worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.   Since the earliest days, Pearl Jam has used its platform to elevate people and causes that often go unnoticed or underserved. Much of the band’s philanthropic work is accomplished through its Vitalogy Foundation which to date has raised more than $50 million for organizations supporting issues such as abortion access, climate change and homelessness, and drawing attention to the fight against diseases such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis and epidermolysis bullosa (EB). In addition to the money Vitalogy donates, the band also donates signed instruments, posters and merchandise to organizations to use for their own fundraising purposes. Compounding the impact of Vitalogy Foundation, the band has supported Jeff Ament’s Montana Pool Service building skate parks in Montana and South Dakota. Pearl Jam also lends its voice to notable causes like the West Memphis 3, voting rights and fair ticketing practices. Over the past three decades, the band has a long history of standing up for what it believes in and putting its resources behind those beliefs.   Through its innovative Ten Club and fan engagement, community building, coveted poster designs, and longstanding activism and philanthropy, Pearl Jam continues to have a lasting impact on generations of music lovers.

The name Andrew Watt in recent years has become synonymous with one very true phrase: the music industry’s not-so-secret weapon. Since 2015, the multi-GRAMMY-winning and platinum-selling music producer has been a hit-making machine, having collaborated with some of the last decade’s most exciting, and ground-breaking artists, including including Justin Bieber, Ozzy Osbourne, Cardi B., Post Malone, Dua Lipa, Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, Elton John, Lana Del Rey, Mick Jagger, Brandi Carlile, Paul McCartney, Smokey Robinson and Lady Gaga, to name a few.   In 2021, Watt took home his first GRAMMY Award for “Producer of the Year” at the 63rd annual GRAMMY Awards for his work on Ozzy Osbourne’s Ordinary Man, Miley Cyrus’ Plastic Hearts, both of which he executive-produced, Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia, which took home the GRAMMY that year for Best Pop Vocal Album, and Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding, which was nominated for Album of the Year. The following year saw Watt produce the widely publicized and critically acclaimed Elton John and Britney Spears collaboration “Hold Me Closer,” the entirety of Eddie Vedder’s solo release Earthling, and Ozzy Osbourne’s GRAMMY Award winning Patient Number 9, which earned Watt his second GRAMMY win for “Best Metal Album” at the 65th GRAMMY Awards. 2023 was also a stellar year for Watt, kicking off the top of the year with the release of Iggy Pop’s long-awaited 19th studio album, Every Loser, released via an exclusive partnership between Atlantic Records and Watt’s own Gold Tooth Records. This past summer also saw a slew of high profile and record-breaking releases on which Watt is credited as co-writer and co-producer, including; The Kid LAROI’s single “Forever and Again” which was released as part of the Barbiemovie soundtrack, and Jungkook’s “Seven,” which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and amassed a record-breaking 217.1 million streams and 269,000 downloads in just its first week of release. Watt ended the year with the release of “Hackney Diamonds,” The Rolling Stones’ first album of original music in 18 years, which was fully produced by Watt. The album’s lead single “Angry” earned Watt a GRAMMY Nomination for “Best Rock Song” for his work co-writing and producing the track.

Alexandr Gnezdilov created the light photography art for the cover of Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter single and album along with the featured lettering. His work is also utilized throughout the Dark Mattercampaign. His interest in photography began at an early age in Moldova where he spent his childhood before expanding to explore long exposure and light painting techniques after moving to Germany in 2001.   Alexandr created the cover of Dark Matter using a large self made kaleidoscope with each letter visible on the cover individually captured, handwritten midair with a specially designed flashlight to create the pearlescent effect. His artwork has been featured in multiple exhibitions including collaborations with the State Theatre of Nuremberg and has been licensed for the past decade for articles, news and commercials.   Gnezdilov lives in Nuremberg, Germany with his wife and two sons and works primarily as a software engineer. When not working, Alexandr’s other passions include music and he recently released his debut album Space Wire with his band “Pulsar Clock.”

‘Runaway Radio’ Documentary Chronicles the Rise and Fall of Houston’s Iconic 101 KLOL Station

0

Here’s the cool Runaway Radio trailer for the documentary from director Mike McGuff. The film will be available on DVD and through video-on-demand platforms on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

In the pre-digital age, radio entertained, informed and dictated what was cool through theater of the mind. Acclaimed musicians such as Lyle Lovett, ZZ Top’s Dusty Hill, Melissa Etheridge and Sammy Hagar along with top radio DJs from across the US reflect on how the medium changed their lives and the lives of devoted listeners. Runaway Radio focuses on Houston’s 101 KLOL – starting in 1970 as a progressive radio station, where DJs played whatever they wanted, to how it evolved into one of several wild Album Oriented Rock (AOR) stations across the country, where on air personalities were sometimes bigger than the music itself! But in the end, changes and pressures from Washington, the music industry and Silicon Valley led to the station’s, and much of the format’s, demise in the 2000s.

A Boogie Wit da Hoodie celebrates the tour announcement with new single, “P&E” featuring Mariah The Scientist, out everywhere February 9th.

Produced by Live Nation, the tour kicks off on April 10 at Spark Arena in Auckland, NZ making stops in Sydney, Amsterdam, Paris, and more before wrapping up in Birmingham, UK on May 5. The 29-date North American leg kicks off on May 18 at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, WA making stops in Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York and more before wrapping up in Vancouver, BC at Rogers Arena on September 20.

Totalling over 21B career streams and amassing more than 50 RIAA Platinum and Gold certifications, the chart-topping global superstar, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie has become one of the music industry’s biggest stars.

The Bronx, NY-native has been a force to be reckoned with since arriving on the scene in 2016 and earned his place as “the most promising young rapper the city has produced in some time” (New York Times) as he continues to sell out arenas across the globe.

With a dynamic catalog of world-renowned hit songs (“My Shit,” “Drowning (feat. Kodak Black),” “Swervin,” “Look Back At It” and more) and 4 critically-acclaimed albums under his belt (ME VS MYSELF, HOODIE SZN, THE BIGGER ARTIST and ARTIST 2.0), A Boogie has also become one of music’s most in-demand collaborators. He has worked alongside a wide variety of artists ranging from Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5 and Khalid to Chris Brown, DJ Khaled, Paulo Londra, Meek Mill, Pop Smoke and more.

21-year-old NLE Choppa has impacted music as a multi platinum chart-topping artist and asserted himself as a champion for Memphis and the greater global community at large. At 16-years-old, he cemented partnership between his own NLE Entertainment and Warner Records, spawning a series of RIAA certified platinum hits. Even then, he’s always used his platform to affect positive change. The NLE Reading Challengeincentivized at-risk Memphis elementary students to read 40 million words, ultimately receiving Tennessee’sCharter School Centers Changemaker Charter Award!

He performed at GRAMMY in the Schools and organized the “Skate for Tyre” peaceful protest through the streets of Memphis at the top of 2023 and donated astate-of-the-art basketball court to the Raleigh Community Center with all-star basketball player NancyLieberman. Additionally, Choppa’s vegan lifestyle is also impacting the culture in a positive way.

His This Can’t Be Vegan Food Truck provides a healthy alternative on-the-go in his neighborhood. After his own spiritual awakening NLE Choppa placed an emphasis on mental, physical, and spiritual wellness, adopting veganism, meditation, and prayer. He continues to humbly seek and share enlightenment with his art as the foundation to implement lasting change.

Wielding a wavy flow, irresistible melodies, and inventive dynamics, Luh Tyler animates bouncy anthems with undeniable unpredictability. He switches lanes seamlessly between his signature laidback cadence and airy high register, touting a style all his own. It’s why he’s quietly emerged as a vibrant voice out of his native Tallahassee, FL all before the age of 16. Growing up the youngest of three kids in “a good family,” he initially excelled on the basketball court as a point guard before picking up a mic in high school.

Inspired by local favorites Wizz Havin, Trapland Pat, L.O.E. Shimmy, and more, he started to upload music of his own. Following “5 On It Freestyle,” he gained traction on Spotify and YouTube with “Jayda Wayda.” Meanwhile, YouTube views on “Law & Order” soared. DJ Booth touted him as one of “10 Rappers You Should Know Right Now,” and Stereogum christened him, “Best new rapper.”

During late 2022, Tyler released “Back Flippin,” the in demand song he teased weeks prior on Tik Tok, which immediately bolstered with support from the likes of Jordan Ross, Chris Brown and Kehlani while Pitchfork declared “…Luh Tyler’s music makes you long for the days when chilling was your only responsibility…his punchlines are boosted by his icy delivery.” Now, he continues to surprise on a series of 2023 singles and his forthcoming debut project.

With a voice that tugs at the heart and soul, Fridayy writes, produces, and performs songs that stand out from his contemporaries. After years of building a solid reputation with high-profile industry executives and musicians, the Philadelphia artist and multi-instrumentalist’s breakthrough arrived in 2022 as a feature on DJ Khaled’s “GOD DID,” featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, John Legend, and Jay Z. He has also written and produced for Chris Brown’s tenth studio album, Breezy (“Wheels Fall Off” featuring Lil Durk and Capella Gray and “Need You Right Here” featuring Bryson Tiller).

Born Francis LeBlanc, he learned to play several instruments at a young age — including piano, guitar, drums, trumpet, and bass, at the encouragement of his father, a Haitian immigrant and musician. Fridayy further nurtured his love for music and instrumentation in a local church choir, where he’d begin to craft his spacious and evocative sound, a blend of alternative R&B and gospel that was also inspired by his favorite acts PartyNextDoor and The Weeknd. Between 2012 and 2013, Fridayy released a steady stream of music on SoundCloud. Though he was musically gifted, Fridayy worked on his art quietly while pursuing a career in basketball, but an injury derailed his professional dreams and set him back on a path towards music full-time.

In 2019, he moved to Los Angeles, where the pieces would slowly start to fall into place. A chance to perform for A&R’s at the Revolt Summit would fast-track his industry connections. By 2020, he met his manager and in 2021 signed his first publishing deal. But when that deal turned sour, Fridayy went back to the drawing board and looked elsewhere to make his mark on the industry by crafting hooks and samples using his voice, this caught the attention of music icon Timbaland who started showcasing those samples live on his Instagram. And with that spotlight of his talents the attention of multiple producers, artists, and labels all came looking to collaborate; along with a range of publishers who came looking to help get Fridayy out of his existing deal. Later, as Fridayy’s name continued to rise and after hearing his expansive and vulnerable catalog, Def Jam Records, looked to sign him to the legendary label in 2022.

This year, Fridayy will release his debut EP, Lost In Melody, leading with the single “Don’t Give Up On Me,” a sparse, guitar-laden record that boasts Fridayy’s soulfulness and rich vocals as he begs for a lover’s loyalty. The remainder of the seven-track project serves as a window into Fridayy’s emotions as a dream chaser — gratitude (“Blessings”), hope (“God Sent” featuring Vory), perseverance (“Empty Stomach”), and need for connection (“Come Thru”). It’s a well-rounded introduction to the musician. As Fridayy evolves as a singer, songwriter, and producer, he continues working with today’s music icons and upcoming stars, including Meek Mill, Lil Baby, and Don Toliver.

Residing in St. Kitts but born in Kingston, Jamaica, Byron Messia is the hottest new reggae artist on the scene. His latest project No Love was released in January 2023 with features from dancehall artists like Prince Swanny, Jahshii, Govana, and Rytikal, and has quickly become a fan favorite currently on Apple Music Top 100 albums in Jamaica. The lead single from the project, “Talibans”, is currently at 36 million views on YouTube and reached # 1 on Apple Music in Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada, St. Kitts, St. Lucia and various other countries in the West Indies.
