Legendary Rock Manager HARVEY LISBERG Book Signing November 11 Barnes & Noble Palm Desert

0

Harvey Lisberg, the legendary music manager who shaped the careers of some of the biggest names in the industry, has penned his memoir, “I’m Into Something Good,” a captivating journey through the golden era of music. He’ll be having a book signing on November 11 at Barnes & Noble in Palm Desert, California.

The book delves into Lisberg’s unparalleled experiences and behind-the-scenes stories that defined an era. As the mastermind behind the success of iconic artists like Herman’s Hermits and 10cc, Lisberg’s book offers a unique perspective on the rise of British Invasion bands and their impact on global music culture. Revealing the trials, triumphs, and secrets of his illustrious career, “I’m Into Something Good” is a 2023 must-read for music enthusiasts and aspiring managers alike, providing a glimpse into the extraordinary life of one of the most influential figures in the music industry.

When 22-year-old accountant Harvey Lisberg heard the Beatles’ ‘Please Please Me’, he had an epiphany: he could be Manchester’s answer to Brian Epstein. He had a musical ear, a knack for numbers and a gambler’s instinct for taking a punt. Within a year he had taken local group, Herman’s Hermits, to number one with ‘I’m Into Something Good’.

Soon, Hermania was a global phenomenon. Harvey had found his vocation. In this uproarious, frank and moving autobiography, he reveals the excesses of life on the road with Herman’s Hermits; the frustration of championing unknowns Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber; the highs and lows of managing the brilliant 10cc; the utter madness of looking after snooker bad boys Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins and Jimmy ‘Whirlwind’ White and much, much more. Many other artists benefitted from Harvey’s guidance during this time, including Tony Christie, Barclay James Harvest, Sad Café and the Chameleons.

“I’m Into Something Good “is his account of a life that started in Salford and ended up in Palm Springs; a life in which he travelled the world, met heroes and villains, fulfilled his dreams, spent a fortune on good living, family and friends, and never took himself or his achievements too seriously.

Revolutionizing Music for Guitarists and Songwriters: Join the FretboardGPS Journey on Kickstarter

0

“My entire life, people have been asking me if something like this exists, and my answer has always been no. Until now.” Don Ross, guitar virtuoso and composer

Musicianly, LLC, the brainchild of guitarist and songwriter Scott Quillin, is excited to share the remarkable journey that led to the creation of their groundbreaking FretboardGPS app. Born out of a lifelong passion for music and a desire to empower fellow musicians, FretboardGPS is set to revolutionize the way guitarists and songwriters navigate the fretboard.

Scott Quillin’s journey as a musician began at a young age, as he vividly recalls being moved by Elton John’s “Your Song” when he was just four years old. His musical path took a significant turn in middle school when he discovered rock music and relentlessly begged his parents for a guitar. Unlike many others whose interests waned with time, Scott’s determination was unwavering. He insisted that a guitar was all he wanted, and on a magical Christmas morning just days after his 14th birthday, he received a Peavey T-15, complete with an integrated amp.

Scott’s dedication to mastering the guitar led him to immerse himself in perfecting technique, phrasing, and developing his unique style. His early “instructors” were legendary guitarists like Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Akira Takasaki. Over time, he began writing his own music and honing his improvisation skills, earning a reputation among his peers as an innovative guitarist.

In 2010, Scott and a friend embarked on songwriting sessions, but their contrasting guitar skills and approaches hindered their creative flow. This challenge inspired Scott to develop a solution that would instantly display chord possibilities based on entered notes within a particular scale. Thus, the concept of FretboardGPS was born.

As Scott and his friend continued to refine the app, they realized the importance of making the user experience intuitive, ensuring that musicians of all levels could harness its power. In parallel, Scott initiated the “AltTunings Project” on YouTube in 2016, using his mastery of FretboardGPS to explore and create music in various tunings. His efforts received tremendous praise from fellow guitarists and musicians.

Buoyed by the positive feedback, Scott decided to shift his focus back to developing a suite of music apps enabling guitar players, songwriters, and educators to interact with the data themselves, leading to the birth of Musicianly, LLC in 2021. During this period, Scott solicited valuable feedback from select musicians and guitar players, including award-winning songwriter and composer Don Ross. Don generously volunteered his assistance to ensure the data is both academically sound and meets the requirements necessary for use in an academic setting. He stayed on as a consultant and is still an invaluable member of the team.

After three years of dedicated app development, Musicianly is now prepared to introduce the FretboardGPS app to the world. To make the mobile version a reality, they have launched a Kickstarter to bring their idea and concept to the masses.

To fund these ongoing needs, Musicianly is launching products such as the “Mastering the Fretboard” book series, Composer Cards, and desktop web experiences, all designed to unlock new horizons in music and songwriting. With your support, they can continue their mission to revolutionize music for guitarists and songwriters.

“We are thrilled to share our journey with the world, and we are excited to take this final step with your support. Together, we can bring the FretboardGPS app and other innovative products to musicians everywhere,” said Scott Quillin, founder of Musicianly, LLC.

Alan Doyle Announces 2024 North American Tour

0

Alan Doyle and his Beautiful Beautiful Band will hit the road in the new year for an extensive North American tour. The run starts on February 21 in Kelowna, BC, and will take him across Canada and the U.S. for 44 shows, wrapping up on May 18 in Homer, NY. Indie rock singer-songwriter Adam Baldwin will be Doyle’s special guest on all dates. Pre-sales begin this Wednesday, with the general on-sale set for this Friday at 10 AM local time.

Also on Friday, Doyle will release “Welcome Home,” the first single off his upcoming album, due out in 2024. More details on the album release will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

“Welcome Home” is a fiercely rollicking, Celtic-y, fiddle-and-accordion-goosed party track that Doyle wrote with country-roots artist Donovan Woods and Josh Kelley. “Welcome Home. The words we dream to say when loved ones have been gone,” says Doyle. “I hope this speaks to everyone of dreaming to get all hands home, and to sing loud when they do.”

Doyle is a multifaceted singer-songwriter, going on three decades strong as a musician – first as a member of the much-celebrated band Great Big Sea and now as an internationally acclaimed solo artist. His CV is extensive — he is a thrice-published author, a film and TV actor-producer with multiple major credits, and the co-producer of the recently released, 20-song Ron Hynes tribute album, Sonny Don’t Go Away. Yet the wildly popular musician from Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, remains most electrifying before a live audience, abetted by his ace band. “I am the luckiest guy in the world,” Doyle says. “It’s such a privilege to stand among those players on stage.”

It’s been over 40 years since The Legendary Downchild Blues Band have played the iconic El Mocambo in Toronto, so the band thought it would be fun to play the club one more time on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 8:00 pm with special guest Jeff Rogers.

Tickets for The Legendary Downchild Blues Band’s show go ON SALE Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 10:00 am at https://elmocambo.com Tickets and Seating are very LIMITED, so get them while you can for this NOT TO BE MISSED performance!

Downchild has a long history with the “El Mo”, as it was known back then, as the house band for the club in the early ‘70’s and they recorded their live album But I’m On The Guest List there to a packed house in 1982.

In the early days, the El Mocambo was a lowdown joint on Spadina Avenue that hosted the likes of Downchild, Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy. In later years bands like Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, Joan Jett and U2 graced the stage and of course The Rolling Stones surprise performance at the club with Margaret Trudeau in tow, is a thing of mystical legend.

It’s going to be a nostalgic trip down memory lane for Downchild and their fans to see the El Mocambo one more time, yet it will be a whole new experience to play the club, with its multi-million-dollar renovations and state of the art sound system.

Downchild is the inspiration for Hollywood stars Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi’s hit film The Blues Brothers. In fact, two Downchild songs “I Got Everything I Need (Almost)” and “Shotgun Blues” are found on The Blues Brothers smash album Briefcase Full of Blues.

Leader and co-founder, Donnie Walsh, often called the ‘Father of Canadian Blues’, is a member of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, alongside some of the greatest songwriters of our time, like Gordon Lightfoot, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell.

The Legendary Downchild Blues Band is a Canadian blues institution with an international reputation. They have shared the stage with American blues icons B.B. King, Buddy Guy and John Lee Hooker to name a few and have performed around the world, leaving fans thoroughly entertained wherever the go.

Canadian roots singer/songwriter and keyboard player Jeff Rogers’ unmistakably soulful voice often evokes weighty comparisons to the past – whether that’s Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles or even Otis Redding…. yet, his tone, range, phrasing, and sincerity, all make him unmistakably contemporary – and totally original.

Jeff’s highly anticipated new solo album Dream Job was just released on October 27, 2023 and was recorded in the revered music mecca of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where many of the greats including, Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, Bob Seger, Etta James, Paul Simon, Otis Redding and The Black Keys, have recorded.

For this album, Jeff is accompanied by some of the legendary musicians, including Kelvin Holly (Little Richard, Bobby Bland etc.), Clayton Ivey (The Staple Sisters, Thelma Houston), Justin Holder (Keb Mo’, Delbert McClinton) and Shonna Tucker (Booker T. Jones, Drive-By-Truckers). Dream Job is co-produced by Dick Cooper of The Cooper Brothers and features special guest appearances by Grammy Award winner, Colin Linden, and Juno Award winning singer, Kellylee Evans.
