0

Kate Hudson recently hosted a guest DJ session on SiriusXM’s Pearl Jam Radio, sharing stories about the band and discussing their connection to her new film “Song Sung Blue”. A longtime fan of Pearl Jam, Hudson reflected on discovering the band in the 1990s and spoke about how Eddie Vedder plays a meaningful role in the story behind the movie.

Hudson explained that the film tells the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, a married couple who performed as the Neil Diamond tribute act Lightning and Thunder. Their lives changed after Vedder invited them to perform on stage with Pearl Jam during a 1995 show at Summerfest in Milwaukee. Vedder has also supported the film and allowed the use of the Pearl Jam song “Alive” in the movie.

During the SiriusXM appearance, Hudson shared memories of the band’s impact on her growing up and expressed excitement about introducing fans to the story behind the film. She also teased playing some of her favorite Pearl Jam songs as part of the session.

Hudson’s guest DJ set is now available on SiriusXM’s Pearl Jam Radio channel and can also be heard on demand through the SiriusXM app.

Thelonious Monk’s 1967 Paris Concert To Be Released As ‘Monk Live in Paris, 1967 Volume One’

A newly restored recording of jazz pioneer Thelonious Monk’s 1967 Paris concert will receive its first official release with ‘Monk Live in Paris, 1967 Volume One’. The album arrives April 24, 2026 on 180-gram vinyl and digital platforms through the Thelonious Monk Estate’s Rhythm-A-Ning Entertainment. Captured during Monk’s European tour, the performance features his classic quartet with Charlie Rouse on tenor saxophone, Larry Gales on bass, and Ben Riley on drums.

The recording also includes appearances from several acclaimed guest musicians. Alto saxophonist Phil Woods, trombonist Jimmy Cleveland, trumpeter Ray Copeland, and tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin join the quartet in different combinations across the performance. A second release, ‘Monk Live in Paris, 1967 Volume Two’, scheduled for October 9, 2026, expands the ensemble into a nonet with the addition of trumpet legend Clark Terry.

Volume One highlights four compositions from Monk’s catalog, including “Epistrophy”, “Evidence”, “We See”, and the ballad “Ruby, My Dear”. Throughout the extended performances, the horn arrangements create rich harmonic layers while Monk’s distinctive piano style anchors the music. The interplay between Gales and Riley provides a steady rhythmic foundation, allowing the soloists to explore spontaneous improvisation.

The album is part of a broader archival initiative by the Monk Estate to bring historic recordings into authorized circulation after decades of appearing as unofficial bootlegs. The project aims to present these performances with restored audio and carefully curated partnerships that reflect Monk’s artistic legacy. The recording was mastered by engineer Rudy Van Gelder, with album artwork created by Japanese artist Gaku Inada.

Alongside the release, the Monk Estate is partnering with luxury hat company Optimo for the second entry in its Icon Series collection. Only 88 hats will be produced, referencing the 88 keys of the piano. Each hat will be individually numbered and available in three colors inspired by Monk’s signature style, with a special vinyl pressing included for collectors.

Dream Pop Musician ARK IDENTITY Shares New Single “Fading Light”

0

Toronto dream pop musician ARK IDENTITY, the project of Noah Mroueh, returns with the new single “Fading Light”, a weightless and immersive track that leans into atmosphere rather than traditional song structure. Built on a soft pulsing groove and layered with reverb soaked textures, the song unfolds like a drifting emotional state rather than a linear narrative.

Mroueh says the song came together in a single session driven entirely by feeling. Improvised melodies and lyrics over an ethereal groove became the final vocal take, kept for their natural and instinctive quality. Instead of building toward resolution, “Fading Light” lingers in its hypnotic tension, inviting listeners to settle into its reflective mood.

The production stays intentionally soft around the edges, blending reverb, distortion and low end movement into a dreamlike sonic space. The result is a psychedelic drift that encourages stillness and introspection, allowing listeners to project their own meaning onto the experience.

ARK IDENTITY first gained attention with the ANNDALE EP in 2024, followed by the sophomore release Deluxe Nightmare. His music has landed playlist support from Apple Music, Amazon Music and Spotify, and he recently signed a distribution deal with ADA, a division of Warner Music.

Dutch Garage Rock Band Iguana Death Cult Release “Guns Out” From Upcoming Album ‘Guns Out’

Dutch garage rock band Iguana Death Cult have released the new single “Guns Out”, the title track from their upcoming album ‘Guns Out’. The record arrives April 10 via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society and marks a return to the band’s punchy garage rock roots after the more indie-leaning direction of their previous album ‘Echo Palace’.

Following the earlier single “I Like It, It’s Nice”, a quirky critique of consumer culture, “Guns Out” shifts the focus inward. The band describe the track as capturing the volatile energy of extreme mood swings, balancing moments of vulnerability with explosive bursts of chaotic rock intensity.

The Rotterdam group channels their early punk and garage influences across the album, driven by Tobias Opschoor’s sharp guitar riffs, Uri Rennert’s relentless drumming, Jimmy de Kok’s rhythmic groove, and Jeroen Reek’s raw vocals. The result is a tougher, more direct sound that reflects both personal introspection and the turbulent atmosphere surrounding the band.

TRACK LISTING:

  1. Guns Out
  2. I Like It, It’s Nice
  3. Swinging With Ghosts
  4. Lazarus
  5. Low
  6. Heavyweight
  7. Reckless Running
  8. Supreme Leader
  9. Need a Friend
  10. Deflated

Peter Gabriel Releases New Song “What Lies Ahead” From Upcoming Album ‘o\i’

Peter Gabriel has released the new song “What Lies Ahead”, the third track from his upcoming album ‘o\i’. The first version of the song arrives as the Bright-Side Mix by Mark “Spike” Stent, with Gabriel writing and producing the track. The song first appeared in instrumental form during Gabriel’s Back to Front Tour before evolving into its finished studio recording.

“What Lies Ahead” began with a melody created by Gabriel’s son Isaac, which the singer developed into a full composition. The track also features contributions from Jennie Abrahamson and Linnea Olsson, whose cello parts carried over from the early live arrangement, while John Metcalfe later expanded the sound with orchestral elements recorded in 2022. The powerful Scandinavian choir Orphei Drangar also appears on the recording, an idea encouraged by Brian Eno to open the song with a striking emotional atmosphere.

Gabriel describes the song as a reflection on invention and the creative process, inspired in part by watching his father, an electrical engineer and inventor, navigate the challenges of turning ideas into reality. The release also features artwork from feminist artist Judy Chicago’s 1982 piece Birth Tear/Tear, embroidered by Jane Thompson, which Gabriel says reflects themes of creation and the emotional parallels between giving birth and bringing ideas into the world.
