Dire Straits Announce New Box Set Of ‘Dire Straits – Live 1978-1992’ Set To Be Released On November 3

On November 3, 2023 UMC/Mercury will release Dire Straits – Live 1978-1992, an 12 LP/8 CD box set of live performances by Dire Straits, a band that straddled the globe in the eighties and nineties with their sophisticated rootsy guitar rock wedded to literate story-telling lyrics.

Emerging on the club and pub circuit in 1977, Dire Straits were led by charismatic Geordie singer-songwriter, record producer and composer Mark Knopfler, one of the most successful musicians the UK has ever produced, who is often cited as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Dire Straits’ sound defined the late 70s/early 80s with huge hits such as “Sultans Of Swing”, “Romeo And Juliet”, “Money For Nothing” and “Walk Of Life”. Dire Straits’ 1985 album Brothers In Arms, a global No 1 and double Grammy Award winner, is one of the world’s best selling albums. After releasing their final album ‘On Every Street’ in ’91 and touring in ‘92, Knopfler called time on Dire Straits in 1995 and set off on a new path as a solo artist.

Dire Straits Live 1978-1992 features newly remastered versions of the classic Dire Straits’ live albums Alchemy (‘84) and On The Night (‘93), ‘93’s Encores EP, ‘95’s Live At The BBC, and the previously unreleased Live From The Rainbow Theatre show from ’79, and captures the band’s thrilling heartland rock played with breath taking virtuosity from their first live recordings at the BBC in ’78, through to their final shows in ‘92 in On The Night.

The expanded version of the original double album Alchemy will include unreleased songs from the performance – “Industrial Disease” and “Twisting By The Pool” – as well as “Love Over Gold”, and the extended versions of “Telegraph Road”, “Solid Rock”, “Going Home” and “Portobello Belle”.

An expanded version of the original On The Night will include tracks performed during the tour which have never been released, taken from multitrack recordings of shows in Nimes, Rotterdam and Paris: “Tunnel Of Love,” “Telegraph Road,” “Sultans Of Swing,” “Two Young Lovers,” “When it Comes To You,” and “I Think I Love You Too Much.”

Says Mark Knopfler: ‘People will always want you to play songs from the songbook; that’s part of what you’re doing playing live. You’ve got to please yourself but at the same time it’s a celebration. You’re all there to have a good time together. I enjoyed writing the songs, I enjoyed recording them, so I’m going to enjoy playing them. I don’t play anything I don’t want to play, so if I get up there and play ‘Romeo And Juliet’ or ‘Brothers In Arms’, it’s because I want to play them. It’s important to me that it’s important to people, that you’ve created milestones in people’s lives.” [Mark was speaking to journalist and broadcaster Paul Sexton, author of the box set sleeve notes.]

Jimmy Page Pays Tribute To Link Wray At The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Jimmy Page made an unexpected and memorable appearance at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony held at Barclays Center in New York last night. Page’s appearance was to induct the legendary guitarist, Link Wray, into the Hall of Fame and featured a video tribute to Wray’s groundbreaking career, after which Page appeared on screen through a pre-recorded message. During his message, the iconic Led Zeppelin rocker reflected on his first encounter with Wray’s classic instrumental track, “Rumble,” when he was just a teenager. Page expressed his amazement at the time, saying, “What is this? In those days, there were many guitar instrumentals, but as a 14-year-old kid who could barely play the guitar, it really had an effect on me. The vigor and the strength and the power in it. And you know something else, it was fearless. It was just phenomenal. The essence of cool.”

These landmark compilations have introduced generations of fans to the incredible history of the most storied band in music. For its 50th anniversary, the collections have been expanded: ‘Red’ has 12 additional tracks, including for the first time some of George Harrison’s earliest songs and some classic Beatles versions of R&B and rock ‘n’ roll hits that were so influential on the band. ‘Blue’ has 9 additional tracks including “Blackbird” and “Glass Onion” including the last new Beatles song, “Now And Then” for a total of 21 new additions which are all compiled onto the 3rd disc, effectively creating a ‘new’ LP for each set.

Together the 6LP’s contain 75 tracks, 36 of which have new mixes for 2023. The inserts contains new sleeve notes by journalist and author John Harris. For current fans and future generations alike, the new 1962 – 1966 & 1967 – 1970 collections are a joyous celebration of The Beatles’ timeless musical legacy.

The music of Simple Minds is nothing short of iconic. From anthems “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” and “Alive and Kicking”, which was the soundtrack of a generation, to their recently released 2022 album Direction Of The Heart (BMG Rights Management), the band has carved a successful music career for over 40 years.

Later this year, Mercury Studios will re-issue a classic concert from their history, when Simple Minds: Acoustic In Concert is released on Blu-ray + CD on December 1.

This concert is now available on Blu-ray for the very first time. Filmed in November 2016, fresh off the release of their acclaimed Acoustic album, Acoustic In Concert was a part of BBC Radio 2’s renowned “In Concert” series.

Live on stage at London’s Hackney Empire, Simple Minds perform a 16-song set from across their career. Evolving from late 70s art punk as well as a multitude of other influences, Simple Minds blended rock, synth pop, new wave, and arena rock into their own distinct sound. For this concert, the electronic elements of the music were peeled away, replaced and richly layered with acoustic guitars and instrumentation.

Delivering stripped down, acoustic versions of their greatest hits, Simple Minds’ celebrated songs are interpreted in a brand new, intimate light. Completed with inspired covers of the songs that influenced them, as well as a finale of “Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)” with famed English singer-songwriter Steve Harley, Simple Minds: Acoustic In Concert is a unique experience for anyone who has followed their music.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Verified Fan Onsale is using registration to ensure more tickets get into the hands of fans who want to go to the shows, not buyers looking to resell them.

Only fans that receive an email confirming their access will be able to join the queue for this Verified Fan Onsale. Fans who are selected will receive additional instructions on Wednesday, November 8. All others will be put on a waitlist.

Tickets for these shows will be in high demand, therefore, a limited number of fans will get access to the Verified Fan Onsale while others will be placed on the waitlist as described below. Access to the Verified Fan Onsale does not guarantee tickets. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while currently-available inventory lasts.

Global rock superstars Green Day – Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool – have officially shared details on their massive 2024 global stadium tour with support from with the illustrious rock luminaries The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas in North America and Nothing But Thieves, The Hives, Donots, The Interrupters and Maid of Ace in the UK/EU. The Saviors Tour, fueled by Monster Energy, kicks off with the European run on 30 May in Monte De Gozo, Spain and travels through France, Germany and Italy, before reaching the UK, including a huge London show at the legendary Wembley Stadium on 29 June. The North American run, produced by Live Nation, begins shortly after on July 29 at Nationals Park in Washington, DC and makes 27 stops across North America in cities such as Toronto, ON; New York, NY; Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Los Angeles, CA; Phoenix, AZ; San Francisco, CA and many more before wrapping up in San Diego, CA at Petco Park on September 28.

Formed in 1986 in Berkeley, CA, Green Day is one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time, with more than 75 million records sold worldwide and 10 billion cumulative audio/visual streams. The five-time Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees released their breakout album Dookie in 1994, which sold over 10 million and achieved 10x Platinum Diamond status, is widely credited with popularizing and reviving mainstream interest in punk rock, catapulting a career-long run of #1 hit singles. Entertainment Weekly calls Green Day, “The most influential band of their generation,” while Rolling Stone attests, “Green Day have inspired more young bands to start than any act this side of Kiss, and that doesn’t seem to be changing.” In 2004, Green Day released the rock opera American Idiot which captured the nation’s attention, selling more than 8 million copies in the U.S. alone and taking home the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. The Beatles’ Last Song Documentary “Now And Then” Is Out and Hear The Song

Now and Then’s eventful journey to fruition took place over five decades and is the product of conversations and collaborations between the four Beatles that go on to this day. The long mythologised John Lennon demo was first worked on in February 1995 by Paul, George and Ringo as part of The Beatles Anthology project but it remained unfinished, partly because of the impossible technological challenges involved in working with the vocal John had recorded on tape in the 1970s. For years it looked like the song could never be completed. But in 2022 there was a stroke of serendipity. A software system developed by Peter Jackson and his team, used throughout the production of the documentary series Get Back, finally opened the way for the uncoupling of John’s vocal from his piano part. As a result, the original recording could be brought to life and worked on anew with contributions from all four Beatles. This remarkable story of musical archaeology reflects The Beatles’ endless creative curiosity and shared fascination with technology.

It marks the completion of the last recording that John, Paul and George and Ringo will get to make together and celebrates the legacy of the foremost and most influential band in popular music history.

Melbourne’s Rising Star Kat Greta Continues to Shine with ‘Season To Believe’

After the recent successful release of her single “Farewell My Friend,” Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Kat Greta is showing the world she is just getting started, with another release fast approaching. Her latest single, “Season To Believe,” is out now.

As a natural-born musician with a lifetime of experience, Greta has only just begun presenting herself as a singer-songwriter. Having previously gone by drummer-songwriter, “Farewell My Friend,” the first track to feature her voice, is the song that changed it all. After years of not quite having the confidence to be a full-fledged singer, she is done holding herself back. It’s clear she is in a pivotal transition period in her music career, one where she is flourishing and letting her voice tell her stories. Her upcoming release of “Season To Believe” sings to the tune of exactly what she is living, and will, of course, feature her tender vocals at the forefront of the track.

With a true 70s pop funk feel, “Season To Believe” is about having faith in who you are and allowing yourself to be vulnerable. The feel-good tune relays a message to live out life to the fullest and that the season to believe is now. “I hope to inspire others to follow their dreams and to also listen to their inner voice and be authentic,” says Greta.

The multi-instrumentalist has never followed what is popular nor expected in today’s music world and “Season To Believe” is no different. In true Kat Greta style, her soon-to-be-born single features the soul-filled groove her listeners know and love.

The Australian-born artist is defying what it looks like to be a modern-day musician. She remains in her own lane, holding a constant appreciation for the melodies and chord progressions from the 60’s and 70’s. For her own songwriting, she pulls inspiration from the likes of Simon & Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac, and the Carpenters.

“Season To Believe” compliments her previous releases with a small twist. The track emits self-discovery and evolution as an artist. Now, with a combination of her well-seasoned multi-instrumental talents and newly born vocal confidence, “Season To Believe” is her latest flair-filled work of art.

The skillful songwriter was brought up by music with her first melodic memory being from when she was only two years old. Surrounded by the encouragement and praise from family and friends, Greta explored numerous different instruments, undoubtedly one of the shaping factors that has led her to be the versatile artist she is today. Now, Greta has found her calling in songwriting and performing—something that brings her back to being a joy-filled child free of today’s worries.

Fuat Tuaç Unveils New Single “Chez Moi” with Kim Richardson – A Harmonious Fusion of Jazz and Multilingual Poetry

Toronto-based jazz virtuoso Fuat Tuaç, celebrated for his eclectic repertoire and captivating performances, has once again entranced the music world with his latest single, “Chez Moi,” featuring Kim Richardson. This masterpiece seamlessly integrates with his highly acclaimed album, Immigrant. Fuat Tuaç’s music is a globetrotting exploration of jazz history, blending Canadian urban poetry with Turkish street flavour.

Before pursuing his passion for jazz, Fuat Tuaç worked as a lawyer in Istanbul, France, and the UK. However, the allure of jazz eventually took precedence, leading him to Montreal in 2011, where he studied jazz at Concordia University and honed his craft.

“Chez Moi” holds a special place in Fuat Tuaç’s heart, originating from his vocal jam sessions at the Montreal Jazz Club, Diese Onze. Hosting these sessions was the remarkable vocalist Kim Richardson, who Fuat used to open for with this very song. Their seamless chemistry and profound connection led them to choose “Chez Moi” for the new album.

Fuat Tuaç’s album, Immigrant, released in 2022, weaves a musical tapestry transcending borders and languages. With songs sung in English, French and his native Turkish, this album deeply reflects Fuat Tuaç’s experiences as an immigrant living in Toronto. It delves into the challenges, triumphs, and lessons learned throughout his journey, offering a heartfelt narrative. In Fuat’s words, “I want the songs on Immigrant to resonate with people from all backgrounds. I believe the eclectic nature of the album makes it accessible to everyone, regardless of their country of origin.”

Underpinning this album are exceptionally talented musicians, including Eric St-Laurent on guitar, Kevin Turcotte on trumpet, Eric West on drums, and Jordan O’Connor on double bass. Alongside Fuat Tuaç, celebrated vocalist Kim Richardson and renowned Turkish singer Yesim Akin lend their voices to create harmonious duets. The album was recorded at Kensington Studios in Toronto, but Fuat travelled to Montreal and Istanbul to record the duets, ensuring that every note was flawlessly collaborated and crafted.

Fuat Tuaç is a Toronto-based jazz vocalist with a unique and diverse repertoire. He brings together his multicultural background and experiences as an immigrant to create music that transcends borders and languages. Fuat’s music explores themes of life, love, and the human experience, all set to the enchanting rhythms of jazz.
