Alzheimer’s Association Mourns Death Of Legendary Singer Tony Bennett

0

The Alzheimer’s Association is deeply saddened by the death of legendary singer Tony Bennett. Following his diagnosis, Bennett was an incredible advocate for the cause, sharing his story publicly to help reduce stigma and elevate the conversation on behalf of the millions of families facing the disease.

Bennett and his family bravely revealed his Alzheimer’s diagnosis in February 2021. Six months later he took to the stage for his final performance at Radio City Music Hall alongside friend and collaborator Lady Gaga. The pair then recorded a public service announcement to help better educate and inform people about the disease. Over the next several years, Bennett regularly partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association to raise funds and encourage more awareness about the disease.

“The Alzheimer’s Association joins the world in mourning the loss of Tony Bennett, a great friend and champion of the cause. For decades, Tony inspired the world with his music and, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he continued to use that powerful voice to make a very real difference in inspiring action and change,” said Joanne Pike, DrPH, president and CEO, Alzheimer’s Association. “For the Bennett family, and the millions of others impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia, we will continue our work of increasing awareness and education, providing families support, and advancing research and treatments, to slow, stop and ultimately, cure Alzheimer’s disease.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Association 2023 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report, more than 6 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease, with more than 11 million friends and family providing unpaid care. These numbers will skyrocket in the coming years and by 2050, the number of people with Alzheimer’s disease is projected to double.

Legendary And Beloved Entertainer Tony Bennett Has Passed Away At The Age Of 96

0

Tony Bennett, born Anthony Dominick Benedetto in AstoriaQueens on August 3rd, 1926, has passed away in his hometown of New York City at the age of 96 earlier today. The beloved singer, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2016, is survived by his wife, Susan Benedetto, his two sons, Danny and Dae Bennett, his daughters Johanna Bennett and Antonia Bennett and 9 grandchildren.

Bennett’s unparalleled career history began when he signed with Columbia Records in 1950 and has spanned over 70 years. His last public concert performances were held at Radio City Music Hall on August 3rd and 5th, in celebration of his 95th birthday.  Lady Gaga, Bennett’s long-time and most frequent musical collaborator in the last ten years joined Bennett for the sold-out performances.   Bennett had his first #1 single in 1951 with “Because of You” and made music industry history by being the oldest performer, twice, to have a #1 album on the Billboard Top 200 Albums at the age of 85 and 88.  He has received 20 Grammy awards including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, two Emmy Awards, was named a Kennedy Center Honoree, a Gershwin Prize Honoree and a NEA Jazz Master during his career.   He won his last Grammy Award for the collaborative album with Lady Gaga, “LOVE FOR SALE,” which was released in 2021.

Having served as a foot soldier in World War II, and among his experiences during that time was the liberation of a Nazi war camp in Germany, he became a life-long pacifist and humanitarian.

Bennett marched with Dr. Martin Luther King in Selma in 1965 and was a supporter of human rights for all, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, and gender.   A life-long visual artist he painted for most of his life and three of his paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution.  With his wife, Susan Benedetto, he founded a non-profit, Exploring the Arts, to provide support and funding for arts education in public high schools and as part of that endeavor founded the New York City public high school, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, in his hometown in AstoriaQueens.

In later life, when Tony Bennett was asked in interviews how he wanted to be remembered he would often say, “As a nice person.”

Iconic 1977 Fleetwood Mac Rumours Tour Comes Alive in Double Live Album Release

0

Fleetwood Mac was at the top of its game in August 1977 when the band returned to its adopted home in Southern California to play three shows at The Forum in Los Angeles. Rumours had only been out a few weeks when the band left in February to tour the world, returning six months later to play three shows at The Forum for nearly 50,000 fans.

Rumours was the #1 album in America and well on its way to becoming one of the most successful ever released. Rumours eventually sold more than 40 million copies worldwide and has just been certified 21x platinum in the U.S. The record has also been certified 14x Platinum in the U.K., and 13x Platinum in Australia and New Zealand, all countries where the album reached #1.

RUMOURS LIVE captures the energy and excitement of the band’s opening night at The Forum on August 29, 1977. The nearly 90-minute performance includes live versions of most of the songs from Rumours and Fleetwood Mac, the group’s first multi-platinum #1 album, which came out in 1975.

The concert remained unreleased for decades until 2021, when “Gold Dust Woman” from the show was included as a bonus track on Live: Deluxe Edition, Rhino’s expanded version of Fleetwood Mac’s 1980 concert album. The other 17 songs on the collection have never been released before.

RUMOURS LIVE will be available on September 8 as 2-CD and 2-LP sets. The black-vinyl version has two 180-gram records in a gatefold jacket with lacquers cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Pre-order HERE. Also, a crystal clear-vinyl version of RUMOURS LIVE will be released the same day as an indie exclusive.

The music will be available from digital and streaming platforms. Unreleased live version of “DREAMS” from RUMOURS LIVE is available today digitally.

The concert’s setlist draws almost exclusively from Fleetwood Mac and Rumours, the first two albums recorded by the band’s latest incarnation: Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Christine McVie, and the newest members, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham. The lone nod to Fleetwood Mac’s other nine studio albums is a performance of “Oh Well,” a rock-guitar masterpiece originally released in 1969 and written by the band’s founder, guitarist Peter Green.

Engineer Ken Caillat, who helped record Rumours, also recorded the concert at The Forum using the Record Plant’s mobile recording truck. He captured the band’s impassioned performance at a moment of peak Rumours frenzy, including powerful versions of “Landslide,” “Never Going Back Again,” “Songbird,” and “The Chain.”

In the liner notes from RUMOURS LIVE, Sam Graham observes: “The songs are familiar: ‘Dreams,’ ‘Go Your Own Way,’ ‘Say You Love Me,’ ‘Over My Head,’ and on and on. But most of these live versions are more muscular, more ferocious, than the album recordings, driven by the powerhouse Fleetwood-John McVie rhythm section and Buckingham’s febrile guitar playing; and instead of a rote recital of the hits, the group stretches out in concert, as songs like ‘Rhiannon,’ ‘World Turning,’ and ‘I’m So Afraid’ blossom into exuberant tours de force onstage.”

Dogstar Featuring Keanu Reeves Announce Tour and First Album In Almost 25 Years

0

LA-based, independent rock band Dogstar today announced they will release their first album in two decades, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees, on October 6, 2023 via their own label Dillon Street Records (distributed through ADA). The album’s first single “Everything Turns Around” is available now – listen HERE and pre-order the highly anticipated album HERE. Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees is also available for purchase as signed, limited-edition colored vinyl in the band’s official shop.

“We are so excited to re-introduce Dogstar with our new single ‘Everything Turns Around.’ It feels like a fun summer song to us,” Dogstar says of the track. “It has an uplifting message and a positive vibe that hopefully makes your day a little bit lighter. It’s one of our favorite songs to play live and can’t wait to share it on our upcoming tour.”

In tandem with the announcement of Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees, the band debuted the music video for “Everything Turns Around” today. Watch the performance-driven music video HERE which further pays homage to their LA roots.

This summer, Dogstar will kick off a 25+-city headline Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees Tour.

Beginning August 10 in Hermosa Beach, CA with a run of west coast dates across cities like Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Denver through the end of the month, they will then take their live show overseas for three dates in Japan in early September. They will resume their North American dates in December in cities like Chicago, Toronto, New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, DC and Atlanta before concluding on December 20 in Nashville, TN. Tickets for all North American shows go on sale Friday, July 21 at 10am local time. For all dates and details, please visit www.dogstarofficial.com.

Of the upcoming tour, Dogstar added: “When creating this record, we were so excited about the idea of playing it live so we are thrilled to finally announce the Somewhere Between The Power Lines and Palm Trees Tour and to soon play for our fans all over North America and Japan.”

Here in 2023, Dogstar epitomize the quintessential Southern California storytelling rock band they’ve always been in their hearts, making deeply resonant music that literally comes from Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees – the name of their new album which arrives October 6, 2023 via their own label Dillon Street Records (distributed through ADA). Comprised of guitarist/vocalist Bret Domrose, drummer Robert Mailhouse and bassist Keanu Reeves, Dogstar was born in 1991 as a band of friends who came together in a garage in Southern California and simply dreamed of playing music together and making a little noise. Now, all these years later, Domrose, Mailhouse and Reeves took some time at the tail end of an historic lockdown to create this collection of songs that fully encompasses who they are as artists today. The happily reunited rock trio’s official return came in May 2023 – more than 20 years since their last performance together – with their first public performance at the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival with a set that sparked fan and critical praise alike, including the live debut of their lead single “Everything Turns Around,” which was officially released July 19. Starting this summer, Dogstar will embark on their 25+ city Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees Tour which includes a west coast run in August and an east coast run in December.

The Chemical Brothers Announce New Album ‘For That Beautiful Feeling’ Out September 8

0

The Chemical Brothers – one of the most acclaimed and innovative electronic duos in the world – have announced details of their tenth studio album. For That Beautiful Feeling is due for release on September 8th, 2023.

The record’s title sums it up perfectly. Recorded in the band’s own studio just near the south coast, this is a record that hunts for and captures that that wild moment when sound overwhelms you and almost pulls you under yet ultimately lets you ride its wave, to destinations unknown. It’s a record that pinpoints the exact moment you lose all control, where you surrender and let the music move you as if pulled by an invisible thread.

Each track on For That Beautiful Feeling was born out of a desire to find that point of vision in the studio, a point that could then be refracted back onto the dancefloor through the music. As a result, it’s a collection of music that’s vividly colourful and confident and deeply psychedelic; impossible beauty carved from noise and chaos and endless fluid rhythm.

From the towering four to the floor rollercoaster ride of Live Again and the glorious analogue noise breakdown of Goodbye; through the return of Beck (previously heard on the Chemical Brothers’ 2015 single Wide Open) on the propulsive and dreamy Skipping Like A Stone and on to the deep, hypnotic swoon of the album’s title track, it’s clear that the duo’s tenth album comes from and is made for that beautiful feeling – that transcendent state that they evoke like no one else in modern music. It’s The Chemical Brothers at their very best.

For That Beautiful Feeling features the singles No Reason and The Darkness That You Fear and Live Again, which features vocals from Heavenly Recordings’ artist Halo Maud.

Longterm Chemical Brothers collaborators Dom & Nic (“Wide Open”, “Hey Boy Hey Girl”) have directed the video for “Live Again”, which is online everywhere now.

Dom & Nic on the video: “Working with The Chemical Brothers is a dream for any video director. We’re really lucky to be still making films together after quite a few years. The Chems just keep smashing it with great tracks that demand videos that live up to the music and hopefully add something extra to the whole experience. “Live Again” is our tenth collaboration… the woozy, wonky analog sounds and the dream like lyric suggested a hallucinogenic visual journey following a character caught in a loop of death and rebirth. The idea inspired us to use the new Arri XR virtual production stage and its cutting edge technology in a way that had never previously been done. This is an idea that could not really have been achieved with traditional filmmaking techniques. We created virtual CGI worlds and used long unbroken camera takes, without edits, moving between those different worlds seamlessly with our hero character. Making and editing the video, we were showered with the generosity of such a strong and huge team of immensely talented companies and individuals that helped us to make this film happen because they love working with The Chemical Brothers. Without their time, talents and generosity a film like this could never make it out of heads and onto a screen.”

The Chemical Brothers recently announced details of a career-spanning retrospective book. Paused in Cosmic Reflection is due for publication by White Rabbit on October 26th 2023. The book is made up of new interviews with the band as well as many of their friends and collaborators from the past three decades, including Noel Gallagher, Aurora, Wayne Coyne, Beth Orton, Beck, Michel Gondry and many more. The book is available for pre-order here.

The Chemical Brothers are Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons. For three decades, they have defined the cutting edge of electronic dance music both on their multi-Platinum selling records and with their hugely lauded hallucinogenic live shows which have played to millions at festivals and arenas all over the world. For That Beautiful Feeling is the first Chemical Brothers album since 2019’s No Geography, which featured the massive singles “Got To Keep On”, “Free Yourself” and “Mad As Hell”.

1

International singer, model, actor and multi-lingual artist ANNA, set to be the first global J-Pop star, will be introducing her brand of the genre and winning the hearts of fans around the world. Her first musical offering “Someone Else” (that includes both Japanese and English verses) will be released via Handcraft Entertainment/Virgin Records on July 26th and will be accompanied by a video that partners with top tier brands including Fendi and Christian Louboutin.

A rapid rise as an internationally renowned model (for some of the world’s most revered fashion houses), worldwide travel, years of formal dance training in multiple styles and innate creativity foretold Anna’s future as a global pop singer, songwriter, and performer. The 18-year-old half-Japanese and half Armenian artist draws on her dynamic professional background and upbringing to deliver energetic and identifiable anthems to Japanese and English-speaking audiences alike.

Linking up with GRAMMY® Award nominated multi-platinum producer Louis Bell (Post Malone, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Camila Cabello, Halsey) and 6x Japan Gold Disc Winner, multi-platinum producer Michael Africk (Mai Kuraki, Zard, Jordan Knight) and is set to bring a new sound experience to fans around the world.

Growing up in front of the camera and splitting her time between Japan and Los Angeles, Anna eventually found herself in photo shoots for top-tier Japanese brands and in magazines, including Vivi and 25ans. As part of these editorial pieces, she notably modeled for some of the most influential fashion houses in the world, including Dior, Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, Fendi and Louis Vuitton.

Mindbender Supreme’s The King Of Queen Street, Features Chuck D, Saukrates, Shad, Dj Mel Boogie, Rich Kidd + More

0

Rapper and journalist Mindbender Supreme drops his guest-filled double album, The King Of Queen Street, via Type A Records, out now. The Toronto artist created his 13th musical project with Toronto-based MCs, producers, DJs and photographers as an offering to rap history in the 50th anniversary year of hip hop culture.

“King of Queen Street is a concept album dedicated to my love of the Toronto music community, decade-plus of living on Queen Street, and my desire to make something special for Canadian rap history for the summer season on the 50th anniversary of hip hop,” says Mindbender Supreme. “I rounded up numerous unique producers, MCs, DJs and long-time musical friends and family to help wit this passion project intended to be inspirational edutainment in a time when hip hop seems to be lacking in the leadership and creativity it once had.”

The inventive album includes production by Saukrates, Rich Kidd, Tone Mason, Tough Dumplin, Junia-T, G. Stokes, Peppermint Noise Pollution, The Riksha, and guest features by DJ Mel Boogie, DJX, DJ Mensa, DJ Grouch and more. Cultural icons Chuck D of Public Enemy, Ernie Pannicioli (legendary hip hop photographer from New Jersey), JUNO Award-winning rap artist Shad, artist/activist Ian Kamau, and journalist/radio host Norman Otis Richmond also appear.

The first single, “The Love That Love Produced,” is an uptempo positivity anthem filled with three verses of witty wordplay delivered over a flute-sprinkled, bass-heavy boom-bap beat, crafted by Tough Dumplin, with live keys by Garry Kennebrew. It also samples rare Malcolm X passages where he spoke about love, self-expression and dancing,

“The song provides clever little reflections on intimacy, relationships, music lovers, family, and even a few pop culture references for comedic effect,” says Mindbender. “Ultimately, my message is basically this: it’s wonderful when the music’s hugging you.”

Mindbender Supreme has been a mainstay in Canadian hip hop for 25 years. Previous releases include the double album Beautiful Mutant (2004) and EPs Quarantine Wolf (2019) and Blindside (2020).

Under the name Addi Stewart, he is also a prominent journalist, who has interviewed such heavyweights as Kanye West, Nas, T.I., RZA, Method Man, John Legend, and Kool G. Rap, for various publications, including XXL, Pound Magazine, CBC, City on my Back, Swagg, and Now.

You may even have seen him as award-winning adult entertainer Malcolm Lovejoy (Toronto International P**n Festival’s 2017’s Golden Beaver Award; TIPF’s 2018’s Best Political Porn), under which he explores other avenues of self-expression and personal evolution.

Undoubtedly his other artistic work and discoveries emerge in the lyrics of The King of Queen Street. The song “50 Ways (Closure),” produced by and featuring Saukrates, speaks on modern relationships, dating, break-ups and the importance of closure. Another track, “Mr. Front Row,” produced by Rich Kidd, celebrates Mindbender Supreme’s history as a staple in the front row of countless musical events in Toronto arts history, as well as “Inner Child’s Hand,” featuring Mel Boogie and DJX, and “Lovemonger’s Message”, featuring DJ Grouch.

The King of Queen Street concept continues on the album through vocal appearances by the aforementioned Ian Kamau and Shad, in addition to Toronto mayoral candidate Knia Singh, Neil Donaldson of Stolen From Africa, Matthew Progress of Freedom Writers, and others.

Chris Ricketts and the Worldwide Shanty Project Set Sail Again with “Haul Away Joe” And Announces East Coast Canadian Tour

0

Fresh off the high seas, Chris Ricketts and the Worldwide Shanty Project return with their take on “Haul Away Joe”. This and other tunes will be available on Ricketts’ upcoming fifth album, Go To Sea No More to be released on September 8, 2023.

“I started the worldwide shanty project during the lockdown,” Ricketts explains. “I had an extensive tour crossing four different countries and was due to see many old friends over the two months . . . Unfortunately, the lockdown stopped the tour, so I had to get creative on singing with friends.”

The project’s first release was an original Ricketts shanty titled “All Stand Together.” It featured singers from over ten countries and garnered over seventy thousand views on Facebook, as well as the endorsement of 6-time BBC Folk Award winner John Tams.

As voted on by the community, “Haul Away Joe” will be the project’s second release. Musicians and laymen the world are invited to partake and sing along, following three simple rules–
1) Use headphones when recording yourself, so it’s only your vocal in the video.
2) Sing in harmony or unison, and don’t hesitate to take a verse.
3) Have fun!

The Worldwide Shanty Project has helped cement Chris Ricketts status as an internationally acclaimed 21st century shanty singer. After making his mark as a semi-finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, Ricketts has spent years perfecting his shanty craft in immersive fashion, performing on cruise ships. Now a touring musician and part-time secondary school teacher, his passion for performing has allowed him to travel the world with his self-penned songs and new takes of traditional shanties alike.

Go To Sea No More will feature recordings of Ricketts’ live performances from across the East Coast of Canada. Known for his quick-witted comedy, clever songwriting, and unique delivery of classic shanties, the album captures all of the mirth of Ricketts’ celebrated live performances. This summer, he has an impressive roster of festivals and concerts booked across the UK, Canada, and Poland.
