Peter Foldy’s New Reggae Pop Single ‘JUMP LIKE THIS’ Captures the Joy of Romance

0

Have you ever had a crush on someone you’ve admired from afar but figured that person would never give you the time of day? And then suddenly you realize that this special someone actually might be interested. An encounter, even a brief one, could make your romantic dreams come true. Wouldn’t that make you jump for joy?

Peter Foldy’s bouncy new reggae/pop single, JUMP LIKE THIS celebrates just such a connection.

Born in Hungary, Peter grew up in Australia but moved to Toronto with his family at the age of 17. While studying film at York University he also began writing and demoing some of his original songs. As luck would have it, a small independent label heard his tracks and signed Foldy to a record deal that saw his first single, “Bondi Junction” climb the Canadian charts, earning him two Juno Award nominations as well as considerable airplay in the USA.

Based on that success, Foldy was offered a major label deal with Capitol/EMI – Canada where two more top ten hits followed, both singles also showing up on US trade and radio charts.

After numerous tours and TV appearances another label came calling, this time to RCA Records in Los Angeles who signed Foldy and moved him to L.A. In the film capital of the world Peter’s interest in cinema was suddenly ignited. He put his music career on the back burner and began writing and directing feature films, eventually working with stars such as Paul Rudd, Beverly D’Angelo, Eugene Levy and Academy Award Winner, Louise Fletcher, among many others.

But old habits die hard. After the release of a best of Peter Foldy CD, he was surprised to realize that he still had a fan base. That inspired him to revisit his music career. He began writing and recording again and in recent years he has released a 10 track CD entitled “Nine Lives” as well as a string of catchy pop singles including “Toxic World,” “Friend-Zone,” ”This Christmas” and his most recent track, “Jump Like This.”

Written by Foldy, “Jump Like This” was recorded at Melrose Recorders in Los Angeles and produced by John Zych, David Williams and Peter Foldy. It is released everywhere by Bronte Road Music, distributed by The Orchard/Sony Music.

André Bisson Dazzles with ‘The Reformed Deceiver’: A Soulful Slice of Upbeat Musical Brilliance with a Touch of Classic Motown

1

Sliding in with a new single, ‘The Reformed Deceiver,’ André Bisson brings us an upbeat soul song that wouldn’t be far removed from any Motown classic. Tinged with Bisson’s signature blues country sound, the song is out now.

From a small town in Northern Ontario to the warming crowds of England and Wales, Bisson’s message demands attention. With a 20-year career, he boasts 9 studio albums, numerous awards, and sold-out shows across Canada, the US, the UK, and Europe. As the sole songwriter and arranger for his 6 to 20-piece ensemble, Andre infuses soul, roots, blues, and R&B, crafting a unique musical brand that complements his poignant lyrics.

Since his debut on stage at 15, Andre’s unwavering love for live performances has remained constant. Teaming up with world-class musicians, he prioritizes delivering an exciting and unforgettable musical experience. His style and musical philosophy have gained recognition, earning awards like “Male Vocalist of the Year” and “Song of the Year.” Each performance captivates the audience with ever-evolving sound, leaving them eager for his 10th album, due in Fall 2023.

‘The Reformed Deceiver’ is a lively soul tune that fuses the energetic charm of a blues horn section and the elegance of a string ensemble. This burning combination brings us back to the nostalgia of 1960s Motown. With many themes running through the song, its underlying narrative delves into ideas that when we shed the burdens that weigh us down, we free ourselves from self-deception and embrace the potential of a brighter future we can shape on our own terms. It serves as an uplifting reminder of the boundless possibilities when we let go of the impossible and draw inspiration from our limitless potential.

The song opens with a toe-tapping intro of horns, dancing piano, warming strings, and popping drums before dropping to just a piano melody, a walking bass and the chugga of an electric that fluidly walks around Bisson’s husky vocals on his opening verse. Bisson follows the classic verse chorus verse pattern, which is ideal because it works perfectly. As Bisson builds to the chorus, we get an uplifting yet gentle build-up before it kicks in.

‘Now I’m a believer, a reformed deceiver
I’m through with walking away
I don’t know where tomorrow lies
And today’s left in disguise
So thank you for yesterday.’

Bisson says, “If I were to use one word to describe the theme of this album, it would be ‘perspective’. Perspective, along with observation and empathy can create the reality we choose to live in.”

He adds, “We may not be able to control all the things in our lives, but we can control how we react to them. This can make all the difference. The outlook differs drastically when the situation is approached from a different angle. To quote William Shakespeare: ‘I cried when I had no shoes, but I stopped crying when I saw a man without legs.'”

‘The Reformed Deceiver’ is the next single from Bisson’s new studio album ‘Latchford’ with the rolling blues train of ‘Dusty Albums’ in July and the 60s groove of ‘Shake’ in May. This trio of singles forms the backbone of a solid set of new songs from Bisson.

The essence of an album delves into the profound idea that transforming our lives isn’t always about altering external circumstances. Still, instead, it’s about how we perceive and interpret them. By recognizing our power over our thoughts, we gain mastery over our existence, shaping our outlook on life and moulding our reality. This collection of songs urges us to take responsibility for our destinies, acknowledging that the keys to a fulfilling life reside within ourselves. The album beautifully reminds us that the tools needed to lead a desired life already exist, waiting to be unlocked and unleashed.

In his latest album, “Latchford,” André Bisson continues his tradition of being the sole songwriter, arranger, and producer, as he demonstrated with previous successful albums like “The Ballad of Lucy Stone” released in 2022. However, to bring these tunes to life, he enlisted the collaboration of a highly talented and diverse group of musicians. While Bisson handles lead vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, and certain percussion and harmonica parts, he is joined by an exceptional ensemble. The roster includes Jesse O’Brien on piano and organ, Mike Rowell on bass guitar, Keagan Early on drums, Pat Carey on tenor and bari saxophone, Shawn Moody on trumpet/flugelhorn, Loretta Hale on trumpet and cello, Rob Somerville on trombone, Paul Barna on violin/viola, and backing vocalists Quisha Wint and Selena Evangeline, with additional piano by Dan Rodrigues. The album was expertly recorded at Mississauga’s Metalworks Studios, with engineering and mixing credits going to Wayne Cochrane Sound and the final touches handled by mastering engineer Chris Crerar.

‘The Reformed Deceiver,’ the Motown-inspired lively soul story, is the third single from André Bisson’s upcoming new album “Latchford” and is available now.

Toronto’s Multilingual Jazz Virtuoso Fuat Tuac Enchants with New Single “Uzun Ince Bir Yoldayim” from Acclaimed Album ‘Immigrant’

2

Toronto-based, multilingual jazz vocalist Fuat Tuac has unveiled his new single “Uzun Ince Bir Yoldayim,” the latest addition to his recently released and highly praised album “Immigrant.”

Tuac’s “Immigrant” has been making waves on the Roots Music Report’s Canadian Chart for the 13th consecutive week, garnering praise from fans and critics alike. A true testament to his artistic prowess, the album showcases his multi-dimensional talents as he navigates between three different languages – English, French, and his native, Turkish – displaying diverse jazz styles that resonate with audiences across the globe.

“Uzun Ince Bir Yoldayim,” the most famous traditional Turkish masterpiece originally penned by renowned 20th-century poet Asik Veysel, embraces the profound concept of life being a long and winding road, offering a poignant reflection on the journey we all embark on.

“The song is about life which is a long and winding road, and the poet says he walks the path day and night”, says Tuac. “He uses the metaphor of a hotel with two doors for life, from one door you enter (birth) and from the other one you exit (death), and you are only a guest in this life. I sing it with the renowned Istanbul singer, Yesim Akin, and we recorded the vocals in Istanbul.”

Deeply personal and profoundly touching, “Immigrant” delves into Tuac’s own experiences as an immigrant living in Toronto. The album provides an intimate glimpse into the challenges, triumphs, and lessons he has encountered throughout his journey.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the album, Tuac expressed, “Immigration is a very hot issue in the world now. People move around the world for one reason or another, even COVID could not stop them. And I wanted to share my story in Canada as an immigrant. I wanted to talk about my journey in Canada, the people I’ve met along the way, my experience inside and outside the jazz world, what I anticipated from Canada and what I’ve found, how people see me and how I see them. I wanted to talk about all of this and inspire people.”

Fuat Tuac’s musical journey is a testament to his unique pedigree. Prior to his remarkable career in jazz, he worked as a lawyer, practicing law in Istanbul, France, and the UK. However, his passion for jazz eventually took precedence, leading him to pursue a full-time musical career. Relocating to Montreal in 2011 to study jazz at Concordia University, he honed his craft in local bars and clubs before releasing his first critically acclaimed album, “Late Bloomer,” in 2017.

Canadian R&B Artist JC Sol Ups the ‘70s Vibe “Our Groove” With Updated Remix

0

A slow, sexy jam with just the right amount of ’70s vibe, R&B artist JC Sol rides on the popularity of last year’s “Our Groove” with the brand-new “Our Groove (Remix)” – available now.

While last year’s version was more of a straight, celebratory ballad of love finding its rhythm, this year’s version ups the groovy ’70s feel with both disco and modern electronic elements.

The inspiration for “Our Groove (Remix)” came from the overwhelming reception of the original track of the same name. “The positive vibe, smooth vocals and catchy lyrics have touched the hearts of both young and old with an up-to-date ’70s sound that folks can’t quite put their finger on,” said JC Sol, “and the Club Remix is a sure replication of the same with an edgy new twist.”

The song begins with the sensual, unforgettable line, “Oooooh, we got the groove baby” and it sets the tone for an addictive, earworm track that’s bound to put you in a better mood than it found you – even if you were in a great mood to begin with! It’s also bound to make you believe in true love.

The original track not only attained international airplay on SmoothJazz.com, but was met with global acclaim by North American and European R & B/Smooth Jazz radio stations and curators. “Our Groove” also received the honour of being among the top ten finalists in the prestigious “World Songwriting Awards” for Best R & B Song of 2022.

Canadian-born with Eastern European roots, JC Sol is a multi-talented singer/songwriter and performer, whose passion and love of R&B, Motown, and the classic Philly sound has found a way of capturing the soulful grooves of that special retro sound while turning it into a current, refreshing production.

Not at all new to the music scene, JC toured for many years as a lead singer with various bands, achieving a solid success in the early ’80’s that resulted in extensive touring on a global level and gaining a fan-based popularity. After a hiatus, JC has come back strong, having spent time honing her craft of songwriting and knowing exactly what she wants her sound to be.

“I had written a couple of tunes back in the ’80’s, but the real songwriting process began in the last few years,” she said. “After recording a six-song cover LP in 2020, the inspiration to begin writing original tunes suddenly struck me. Thanks to some early piano training, I found I was able to come up with the basic chord progressions required for use in pre-production.”

JC’s vocal style is a bit of Dusty Springfield and Natalie Cole, with a touch of vintage Diana Ross, but the sound is uniquely her own.

Dive into Self-Liberation: Erika Kulnys’ Latest Release ‘Swimming with Dolphins’ Invites a Journey of Acoustic Pop Bliss

2

Erika Kulnys, Nova Scotia/Berlin/Nashville/Puerto Vallarta-based singer/songwriter beckons you to embark on a profound exploration of self-liberation with her latest acoustic pop release, Swimming with Dolphins, co-written with Alan Roy Scott (Celine Dion, Shakira).

Through poignant lyrics that resonate with the call of the sea, Kulnys encourages you to immerse yourself in the uncharted depths of your essence, navigating the limitless expanse of personal empowerment and freedom.

Crafted amidst the serene landscapes of the Irish island, Inisheer, the genesis of this song was inspired by the sight of a wild dolphin joyfully navigating the waves without constraints or judgments, choosing to swim playfully with people in her natural environment. As Erika Kulnys passionately asserts, this song encapsulates freedom from our self-imposed perceptions, and from our painful mortal entanglements:

“This song is about being free, from our conceptions about ourselves, our conceptions of others, and our attachments to suffering”, affirms the Canadian-American-British-Hungarian-Colombian artist. “It is about following the wild dolphins who show us how to laugh and love and sing in our power.”

Set against an intimate and intense piano backdrop played by Cuban pianist, Alejandro Falcon, Kulnys crystal clear and powerful vocals beautifully capture her sense of independence in the resounding chorus: ‘Now I’m swimming with dolphins/Riding the waves just letting go/Feel the wind rushin’ through my soul/Calls to me/Swimming with Dolphins.’

The track will appear on Erika’s upcoming album “Stand Together”, a musical mosaic featuring Spanish gems Fantasma (Ghost) and Alcanzando La Rosa (Reaching for the Rose: written with Gareth Dunlop and translated in Cuba). The album also embraces the heartfelt ballad in Montreal, cowritten with Lilli Lewis during the creative synergy of Folk Alliance International.

Enriching the experience, Cuban musicians infuse the upcoming Spanish tracks with passion and rhythm, adding depth to Erika’s musical narrative.

The album’s debut single, My Choice, stands as a vocal protest in support of Whole Woman’s Health, amidst the discourse on abortion and bodily autonomy in the USA. The second single, Stand Together, took form through a cross-continental journey, beginning in Cuba, finding its completion as a song in Germany and getting produced in the USA and Canada.

Stand Together is about ending the torture, internment and subjugation of refugees and creating a culture that recognizes our common humanity over national borders.

Delving into a diverse array of thought-provoking themes, Swimming with Dolphins adds another layer: beyond advocating for the liberating stance of indifference to external opinions, the song exudes romance, affirming Erika’s journey to love—a narrative that poignantly underscores the notion that sometimes love finds us when we least expect it.

‘I swam in the ocean
thinking is this is how I die?
In the freezing water, something caught my eye
I knew I should be afraid
but somehow I felt free
Now your love is leading me
to where I’m meant to be
We’ll go swimming with Dolphins’

Swimming with Dolphins is the fourth track on “Stand Together”, set to be released later in 2023. With the prior success of her album, Rise Up, which achieved Top Ten rankings on Canadian and US charts and garnered accolades spanning from Ireland to Florida, Stand Together promises to carry forward this remarkable trajectory.
