Chester Doom Releases The Epic “Not Far Behind” From CROWS GO HOME Album

0

Chester Doom is a rock & roll juggernaut that knows how to bring the house down! These lifelong musicians are on a mission to prove that rock & roll is alive and kicking harder than ever before by mixing equal parts punk rock attitude and Southern rock soul and drawing inspiration from the classic rock gods like Led Zeppelin, Rush, Guns N’ Roses, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as modern icons like Tool and Linkin Park.

Hailing from the rocky shores of Halifax, NS, the band is fronted by powerhouse vocalist Josh Best, who can switch effortlessly between soulful ballads and face-melting anthems and has been hailed as one of Canada’s most promising rock vocalists, drawing comparisons to Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. He’s backed by the riff-tastic duo of rhythm guitarist Patrick Blackie and lead guitarist Kellan Menhennett, who never fail to get the crowd jumping. Keyboardist Dave Mackenzie adds an extra layer of sonic texture, while the rhythm section of brothers Glenn Arseneau on bass and Peter Arseneau on drums keep the beat pounding.

Best wrote “Not Far Behind” in the spring of 2022 while recovering from COVID and being bombarded with news of the then-recent invasion of Ukraine. He was inspired both by the resiliency of the Ukrainian people and more generally by what the world had gone through in the previous two years with the global pandemic.

Step over the bodies
Dear please close your eyes, yeah
I swear that I’m not far behind
I’m not far behind

The idea that no matter how dark things get, we are never truly alone resonates with Chester Doom—and the epic anthem “Not Far Behind” is the rocking result.

Their highly anticipated album CROWS GO HOME will be unleashed on June 23, 2023.

Toronto’s Pop/Hip Hop Rising Star Trey Joshua Releases “Fine To Me”

1

Life is short, and in its haste, we must revel. The essence of youth is the here and now, a truth that Trey Joshua captures in his latest single, “Fine To Me.”

The 21-year-old artist from Toronto spawned the song in unconventional conditions, an outburst of creativity coming over him and his producer friend Ricky Tovey as the two found themselves with a group of friends at a camp in Muskoka. In the midst of the debauchery, the friends forged a summer bop that sells shoulders to sway.

“We were all drinking and partying, and after my buddies fell asleep, the producer Ricky and I were still up,” Trey explained. “We got bored, so we decided to make some music. Right then, he laid down the beat. Drums were kickin’, melodies were swingin’, and as soon as I heard it, I knew it was something real.”

It took just 15 minutes for the duo to devise this dance tune, recording the original version in the cabin where they stayed. Trey and Ricky later showed what they’d made to their friends, and it became a staple for the rest of the trip. It taught Trey an important musical lesson.

“It’s funny how something so easy and simple can make so much sense,” he said. “If anything, the making of the song taught me that not everything in music has to be so calculated and precise. It’s totally okay just to feel and let flow sometimes.”

“Fine To Me” is Trey’s second release of 2023, following up his single, “Drunk,” from earlier this year. Its lyrics include themes of partying, love, and how they can intertwine, with the expressed goal of getting you up on your feet.

“The dancing after the song was made also had a big influence on the strategy of how I wanted to promote the song, because what made me love this song more than anything was the sight of people I didn’t know dancing to it and having a good time,” Trey said. “I was just glad that a song I made had that effect on people and that I could be a part of their good time.”

This is the beginning of what Trey intends to make a long career in music. The artist began his musical journey in 2018, taking major influences from XXXTENTACION, J.I.D., 6lack, The Tragically Hip, Bob Dylan, and Billy Idol, among others.

His story in music goes back to even before his birth, though. Trey’s parents met in 1994 at a Grateful Dead show in Vermont. Eight years later, they had their son and named him after the Phish guitarist, Trey Anastasio. Everything that brought Trey into this world pointed him toward one thing.

“It is no stretch to say that I was born to make music,” Trey explains in his Spotify artist bio. “I would go as far as to say that I believe I live only for the sole purpose of creating it. Music surges through my veins, entangles my mind, destroys, dissects, and dismantles my soul. Yet, it is my truest love.”

Award-Winning Roots Singer/Guitarist JW-Jones Has ‘Everything Now’ on His New Album

0

Award-winning roots singer/guitarist JW-Jones new solo album, Everything Now, is out now on Solid Blues Records, distributed by Stony Plain. Joining him on the new disc are special guests Jimmie Vaughan, The Texas Horns, Rob McNelley, Stanton Moore and Gordie Johnson of Canadian roots monsters, Big Sugar, among others. JW penned the entire album with fellow Canadian legends Dick Cooper and Johnson (who also produced).

“I am incredibly proud of these songs, and this music,” says Jones. “It is 100% original roots and blues with a variety of grooves, feels, and personal lyrics. This is a snapshot of who I am as a person, and where I am as an artist today.”

Everything Now features some heavyweight instrumental support: the legendary Jimmie Vaughan, The Texas Horns, Rob McNelley, Stanton Moore, Aaron Sterling, and includes unchartered sonic territory for Jones with real strings on the exceptional ‘To Tell You the Truth (I Lied).”

The recordings were produced in Austin, Texas, with multi-platinum-selling artist Gordie Johnson, as well as in Ottawa, Canada, with long-time collaborator Eric Eggleston.
“Gordie and I met the old fashioned way, on Instagram during the pandemic,” relates Jones. “After meeting for lunch many months later in Austin and visiting his studio, I was enamored by his passion and process of creating new music, which led to working together. He’s a total freak talent as a producer, guitarist, singer, bassist, drummer, keyboards – you name it – everyone knows that… but more than that, he’s an incredible guy. He’s got such a chill and wise vibe, and I learned more about how to be a more emotionally- balanced human than I have from just about anyone else. I look up to him in so many ways.”

For JW-Jones, the Everything Now recording sessions highlights are many, starting with Jimmie Vaughan. “Recording with Jimmie Vaughan, my biggest living influence, is a childhood dream come true, and his king-of-cool vibe leaps out of the speakers on the track, ‘Take Your Time.’ “Since I was 15 years old, I’ve dreamed about trading riffs with Jimmie Vaughan, and some 25 years later, that dream came true when Jimmie came over to Gordie’s studio. Talk about a ‘bucket list’? Unbelievable! I am so grateful for his support and generosity.

“Songs – It’s all about the songs!” adds Jones, whose searing axemanship has been praised in recent years by legendary blues artists Buddy Guy and Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones). “While there are plenty of burning lead guitar solos on the new album, I wanted to open up and get more personal than ever with the lyrics. From the true story, ‘Papa’s in the Pen,’ to ‘When You Left,’ that I sang with tears rolling down my cheeks about my mother’s passing, these are stories that I feel like I can finally share through my music.”

The Texas Horns are long-time friends and frequent touring buddies. “Texas Horns leader Kaz Kazanoff has been a friend for a couple of decades, since we first played together at the Ottawa Blues Festival in 2002. When we’re in Austin, he opens his home to my entire band, and I’ve always wanted to get The Texas Horns on a record. Since I was already in Austin working with Gordie Johnson, it was easy for Kaz, Al Gomez, and John Mills to visit the studio to record. They brought the perfect feel to the most heartfelt song on the record, ‘When you Left.’ It means so much to me to have The Texas Horns be part of such a special song.

“And what can I say about Rob McNelley? He’s a multi-ACM winner of the guitarist of the year, toured with Bob Seger, first-call studio guitarist for Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Buddy Guy, Kingfish, Joe Bonamassa, and many more, and he appeared on my JUNO-nominated Belmont Boulevard record in 2014. During the pandemic, we had a wonderful Zoom video-call to discuss how to create unique rhythm guitar parts for various styles of roots music, and it led to Rob cutting a track for ‘My Luck,’ which I was working on at the time. His tone and feel throughout gave the song a bounce that took it to a totally new level!

“Three of the best drummers in the world are also on this album; Aaron Sterling – session drummer to the stars (John Mayer, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles. Lady A, and many more), Stanton Moore (New Orleans drumming master, and the best drummer I’ve ever seen live, period.), and shuffle king Jason Corbiere (tours with Jimmie Vaughan). I even played drums on a track (‘Keeping Me Up’)!”
JW-Jones has racked up an impressive number of awards and accolades in recent years, both as a solo performer and as a member of Canadian roots group, HOROJO Trio, including the 2020 International Blues Challenge winner as “Best Guitarist,” a JUNO Award nomination, and Billboard Top 10 Blues Artist, during a career that has thus far taken him to 23 countries on four continents. The HOROJO Trio also won the 2020 International Blues Challenge as “Best Band.”

The frequent resident of Billboard magazine’s Top 10 Blues charts and roots radio favorite continues to accelerate his career momentum to new heights, whether as a personally-requested sit-in with the likes of 8-time Grammy winner Buddy Guy, opening for blues-rock icon George Thorogood, or entertaining thrilled audiences in 23 countries and four continents.

A Throwback To Britpop and Indie : Cleveland’s Vanishing Shores’ “I Wouldn’t Change A Thing” New Single Out Now

0

Formed in Cleveland, Ohio as a vehicle for singer/songwriter Kevin Bianchi, Vanishing Shores is a band that explores beauty wherever it may lead. Combining the melodic elements of Britpop with the urgency of indie rock, Vanishing Shores has spent the last five years exploring a musical journey that is both intensely personal and universal in its focus. Bianchi has been joined by a rotating collective of collaborators that provide their unique talents to carefully craft the musical vision of Vanishing Shores both in the studio and on stage.

Bolstered by regional radio support and a persistent fanbase, Vanishing Shores continued to pursue an even more layered musical language on their sophomore release, Maps (2021). By creating a song cycle of expansive beauty and vulnerability, Maps felt confident and transcendent.

Their upcoming LP, Possible Light, showcases the Bianchi’s evolution with its lead single, “I Wouldn’t Change A Thing.”

“I wrote the song in response to the question, ‘Does the length of a relationship determine how ‘real’ it is?’ – and I wanted it to express that love, all love, is real and powerful in the moment, regardless of how long or short the relationship may be,” he says. “I firmly believe that the best protest song of all is a love song, for love is ultimately what will change a person’s heart and mind.”

By refusing to be comfortable and safe, Vanishing Shores is creating a bold future where their music becomes a vital part of the shared experiences of their audience. Bianchi is eternally restless, always listening and engaging with the world around him to capture truth and beauty and to wrestle with their larger implications in song.

What if you told me all of this will end?
Baby if you told me, I wouldn’t change a thing

The single “I Wouldn’t Change A Thing” is out now. The album, Possible Light, will be released later this year.

Montreal-Based Pop Rocker LG Breton Bucks Convention with Quirky “Going Off The Grid”

0

From time to time, everyone imagines – fantasizes even – about dropping out of society and living far, far away from it all. Montreal-based pop rocker LG Breton gives voice to that urge in his fun, quirky new single “Going Off The Grid.”

Part head-bopping power-pop, part folky introspection, and sung in half-sing, half-talk, “Going Off The Grid” sonically reflects the unconventionality of its subject matter. After all, everyone craves solitude every once in a while, but not everyone permanently leaves the city for a shack in the woods.

You used to thrive in the city
Better not be a servant of greed and inequity
You’ve decided, God forbid,
To be going off the grid

Feeding on greens and beans you’ve grown yourself
Each man and woman responsible for themselves
You’ve decided, God forbid,
To be going off the grid

Breton, though, seems to know a few folks who have opted for this sort of life. “The song lyrics address the seemingly growing trend of people ‘quitting’ modern city life,” he explains. “They’re abandoning it in favor of a back-to-the-basics existence by relocating to a remote area, away from any commodities and, often, from other people…”

As usual, and apart from his signature vocals, Breton played all the instruments on “Going Off The Grid, save for the drum kit, which was handled by up-and-coming drummer Mathis Beauséjour. The song was written, recorded, and produced by Breton at G&B Productions, the Montreal studio he shares with award-winning sound engineer Stéphane Grimm.

LG Breton is a Montreal-based singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He has participated on more than 45 albums/recordings and has given more than 2,500 performances in more than 20 countries alongside established and developing artists as part of large-scale productions like Cirque du Soleil and as a solo artist. Both his debut solo album, Consider It Done! and his Strings Attached EP were released to critical acclaim in Canada and abroad. And several exciting new releases are planned throughout 2023 and 2024.

Discover Vancouver-Based RnB Powerhouse Tissa Rahim “Before Someone Else Does”

0

Vancouver musician Tissa Rahim has released her latest track, “Before Someone Else Does,”, bringing the Persian Powerhouse to the forefront of the Soul/RnB scene. It’s a mild departure from Rahim’s typical RnB sound, but she maintains her powerhouse vocals and emotional performance while explaining to her theoretical partner that he’s had his final warning.

https://youtu.be/5BaLmjuDgBg

“Ain’t asking for too much need to measure up
Or this love won’t feel like love
Try a little harder baby
Before someone else does”

“Before Someone Else Does” marks the first release in the collaboration between Rahim and Alvin Brendan, who began writing together during the pandemic. Like other musicians around the world, the two had trouble finding opportunities to perform together, so they turned to an alternate outlet for their creativity.

Inspired by a shared love for soul rock music artists like Alabama Shakes and Lake Street Drive, the duo of Rahim and Brendan used those influences to conjure “Someone Else Does.”

Thanks to funding from Creative BC’s Amplify Career Development grant, this release is accompanied by a live music video filmed at Vancouver’s Rain City Recorders by Sina Moazzenizadeh and his team. The video features Rahim’s band, with Brendan on guitar, Brennan Buglioni on drums, and Brayson Wong on bass.

“Before Someone Else Does” is far from Rahim’s first dent in music. Its release comes right as the musician is fresh off a tour of the West Coast. She has performed at House of Blues in New Orleans, the Gramercy Theatre in New York City, and Vancouver’s quintessential jazz and soul club, Guilt and Co. Named one of 24 Magazine’s “Top 24 Under 24,” Rahim is versatile as a musician, performing as a solo act up to a six-piece band.

She also takes great influence from her history. As a solo artist, Rahim enjoys the freedom to explore her effortless Soul/RnB sound infused with the traditional Persian music her family has made for generations. The musician has even led workshops on how her Middle Eastern roots have influenced her contemporary songwriting.

This release is Rahim’s second so far in 2023, a follow up to January’s “Done, Done, Done” featuring Dominique Fricot. Since 2019, the Persian Powerhouse has built up an enticing catalog as a solo artist, consisting of digital releases, videos, and collaborations with artists in Vancouver and beyond.

Forever moving, Rahim is already back in the recording studio cooking up more creativity to continue her momentum in the music world, with funding from Creative BC, FACTOR, and SOCAN.

The Original Misfits Announce Limited Run Of 2023 Shows

0

The Original Misfits, one of the most influential, genre-defying bands to emerge from North America, today announced a limited three-show run of dates for 2023. Produced by Live Nation, the tour kicks off on June 24 in Tampa, FL, and includes a hometown show at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, with fellow New Jersey natives The Gaslight Anthem, and Fear, on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

The tour will give fans the rare opportunity to see the horror punk pioneers in their fiendish glory, live on stage. These performances will mark the first time the reunited The Original Misfits have visited the states of Florida and Arizona, featuring the classic line-up of original singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig and original bassist Jerry Only. Longtime lead guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein will also be joining.

From the time of their first gig in 1977, the MISFITS and their iconic imagery went on to become one of the most crucially influential, genre-defying bands to ever emerge from North America. The MISFITS significance extends well beyond the narrowed path of punk rock, metal & hardcore. Although not cognizant of how significant they would become, what the Original MISFITS achieved in their initial seven-year window deconstructed and redefined rock music.

The MISFITS with Danzig’s anthemic songs and unmistakable voice, Only’s ferocious bass sound, and the Original MISFITS melody-induced choruses and authentically bruising musicianship, cemented their importance with all ensuing generations. And now legions of diehard fans from around the world will have the opportunity to hear the Original Band that forges a level of intensity unprecedented in the new millennium. Don’t miss this important chapter in the legendary band’s legacy of brutality.

TOUR DATES:
Sat, Jun 24 – Tampa, FL – MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre at the FL State Fairgrounds
Sat, Jul 08 – Newark, NJ – Prudential Center
Sat, Jul 15 – Phoenix, AZ – Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre

“I am thrilled to join the SiriusXM FC team and launch this show,” said O’Reilly. “First of all, I am excited to be working with Lori again. I’m also thrilled to help bring women’s soccer to the masses with Played In. The women’s game is growing at an unprecedented rate globally, and it is important that listeners are kept in the conversation on SiriusXM, a platform with such a large reach.”

“I’m so excited to be joining forces again with my longtime friend and teammate, Heather O’Reilly, for our new show, Played In,” said Lindsey. “I love this game and with the growth of the women’s game globally it only makes sense for it to be on a platform that reaches as many fans as SiriusXM does. O’Reilly played in the NWSL during the league’s first four years of existence, first with the Boston Breakers then with FC Kansas City, who she helped win the NWSL Championship in 2015. O’Reilly spent the 2017-18 seasons with Arsenal Women Football Club in London and helped that club reach the 2018 Women’s FA Cup Final in addition to winning the 2018 Continental Cup trophy. She returned to the NWSL in 2018 and led the North Carolina Courage to victory in the first edition of the Women’s International Champions Cup (2018), as well as a NWSL Shield and NWSL Championship that season. Prior to her pro career, O’Reilly starred at the University of North Carolina, where she won two national championships and had the honor of having her jersey retired.

Lori Lindsey’s professional playing career spanned 13 years. A 10-year member of the U.S. Women’s National Team, she represented the USWNT at the 2011 Women’s World Cup in Germany and helped the team earn the 2012 Olympic Gold Medal in London. Lori is one of only a few players to have played in all three U.S. professional women’s soccer leagues (WUSA, WPS and NWSL). She captained the Washington Spirit of the NWSL in 2013 and 2014, then finished out her career with Canberra United of the W-League, the top division women’s soccer league in Australia, winning that league’s championship in 2014.
