Ann Wilson of Heart & Tripsitter Announces Toronto and Ottawa Shows

0

Ann Wilson, known the world over as a founder and the lead singer-songwriter of the barrier-breaking band Heart, is here to stay.

Widely praised among the greatest singers in the history of rock, Ann’s extraordinarily powerful voice has been sending chills down her audience’s collective spine for over five decades, earning record sales of more than 35 million, an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award.

“Barracuda,” “Crazy On You,” and “Magic Man” are among the many songs she’s written that now reside in the pantheon of rock’s greatest hits. “Greed” from 2022’s Fierce Bliss plays seamlessly alongside the classics in her current live set.

Her latest album, FIERCE BLISS, was released April 29, 2022 via Silver Lining Music. It’s not just an album for fans of Ann Wilson and Heart, it is an album for everyone seeking a lavish ticket out of the sharp edges of an increasingly fraught society. FIERCE BLISS also marks perhaps the first time in her illustrious career that Ann Wilson has truly felt the wind in her wings, something which might seem a strange statement given her pioneering history. To cap it all, the album artwork comes from the mind and hands of celebrated fantasy artist Roger Dean, who aside from his work in fantasy art is also renowned for his Yes sleeve artwork.

This past year, Ann sang with Disturbed’s front man David Draiman on the duet, “Don’t Tell Me” from their recently released Divisive album, and lent her voice to Dolly Parton’s forthcoming rock record. From Dreamboat Annie to Disturbed, to Dolly Parton and beyond, Ann Wilson defies genre.

Prior to starting their summer tour, Ann Wilson & Tripsitter has been putting the finishing touches on a new album of original material. This year, Ann brings her show to venues everywhere with the same vigor and verve that she brought that one memorable night in front of Led Zeppelin at The Kennedy Center.

Electro Folk Artist Adrienne Nye Releases “Stardust” From Upcoming ‘These Winter Skies’ Album

0

Canadian electronic folk-pop artist Adrienne Nye will soon release her new EP, These Winter Skies, which she has teased audiences with through a handful of singles. “Stardust” was her most-recent drop, a song that the Montreal-born, Vancouver-based said holds deep meaning for her.

“The song is an anthem of change, and it really became an outlet for my frustration as a woman who still feels like I have to fight to have a voice in this industry, especially as I get older,” Nye explained.

She teamed up with Cody Taylor of Fiend Recordings to produce “Stardust.” Taylor also helped the artist produce other tracks on These Winter Skies, such as “The River” and “I Need The Light,” which have both already been released as singles. Nye launched her own boutique indie record label in December 2022 – Yaletown Records – and it’s behind the artist’s upcoming EP.

The song’s video shows Nye as an adult and as a kid, roaming through the woods in search of nothing and everything. The singer’s 8-year-old niece, Mabel Armstrong, plays the child version of Nye.

“We crafted the story of a woman reconnecting with her inner child,” Nye said. “The part of her that never feels good enough, that is young and vulnerable and just wants to be seen and appreciated for who she is.”

The video was shot on location at scenic Caulfield Park in West Vancouver in September 2022. Director Veronika Kurz and cinematographer Marcus Fung, co-founder of Workshop Film Company, operated behind the scenes to make it happen. Nye worked with both creatives on short films in 2014, reuniting with old friends as part of her latest creative endeavor. They shot two music videos (Stardust and The River) in two days thanks to financial aid from the Artist Development grant through FACTOR Canada.

Nye has a long history in the performing arts. As a child, she was cast in the only bilingual production of Les Misérables in Montreal and appeared in more than 125 performances. As a child, she had extensive ballet training at the National Ballet School, toured overseas with the F.A.C.E Treble Choir, performed the lead in Czech Children’s Opera “Brundibár” with members of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and more.

Inspired by artists like Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, and Tori Amos, Nye took up composing and songwriting in her early teens. In 2017, she formed the band, Fallow State, with a former acting school classmate in Vancouver, Olson Lloyd. Together, they released two EPs under the Fallow State moniker before amicably parting ways because of the pandemic.

In 2021, Nye gave the world her first new single as a solo artist in more than a decade; “Lonely Days” delved into the difficult realities that border crossings force on families and relationships.

Nye likes to utilize her own lived experiences in her work. In “Stardust,” she evokes the immense weight that the sky holds, physically and metaphorically.

“I often try to pull myself out of the minutia and remind myself that I am but a speck of dust in this universe, and no matter how frustrating life can get, we get to choose our attitude and mindset,” Nye explained. “I look to the stars for comfort, because they remind me that there is a much bigger universe out there, and I am just doing my small part to create a life that is meaningful for me. I always try to remember that, especially when things feel hard sometimes.”

Singer-Songwriter Matt Epp Releases “Live Free” Single From 13th Album ‘Rolling Wave’

1

International touring artist and award-winning singer-songwriter Matt Epp has released his 13th album, “Rolling Wave,” and his new single, “Live Free,” out now.

The Toronto-based troubadour has found himself on the forefront of the Canadian music scene for more than a decade. Epp’s confessional songwriting and intimate performance style have gained him a worldwide following and a 2017 Grand Prize win at the International Songwriting Competition. His songs, which draw on folk, blues, and Americana, have garnered regular rotation on CBC, Sirius XM and community radio.

“Rolling Wave” marks a transition into what the artist calls a new era. Recorded mostly alone in a converted rural “Art Church” on the shore of Lake Huron, “Rolling Wave” recounts Epp’s spiritual journey amid pandemic-era isolation. Epp channels themes of presence, connection and nature, embracing both joy and sorrow as equally important elements of the human experience.

“A rolling wave represents to me the cyclical balance of life; the sacred deepening of grief and experience of ecstasy; natural law and consequences; a powerful enveloping embrace and pull into itself,” Epp says. “One can ride the wave if they surrender to it, and be crushed by trying to control it.”

Epp says creating the album was a “playful, free and spiritual process” that helped him lean into life’s ebbs and flows in the face of devastating personal upheaval. The end of his marriage, the death of a friend and the loss of all of his belongings to a break-in theft “opened the gates of my heart to experience some kind of rebirth,” Epp says.

“I began to learn self-acceptance, self-love, and to know that I too held my own medicine; that I have the honour and responsibility to scatter it around the world,” Epp says. “My takeaway lessons included relinquishing my sense of control, giving thanks for difficult tests, and holding everything I have with open hands.”

Epp says he learned to record himself in the Art Church, affording himself more time to experiment with lush backing vocals and guitar layers than he would have allowed for in a studio. “The result is a sound more reflective of the purity and magic of the exploratory demo process; usually elusive to the artist trying to create perfection in the studio,” Epp says.

The uplifting single “Live Free” is a testament to following life’s calls to adventure, while shaking off the fear of getting hurt in the process. “Picking up speed, rolling down the hill/ Scraping your knee is just a part of the thrill,” Epp sings. “Do you bleed/ Are you taking chances/ Do you have loving arms around you/ Live free, whatever that means.”

He also explores the bliss of living life to the fullest on the jubilant “Made for Love” and its accompanying music video, featuring a playful Epp romping around in ankle-deep snow in his underwear. Epp recalls the lyrics to the song, which opens the album, just “falling onto the page.”

On the psychedelic-inspired “Inside Out Man,” a maple-sweet tune that nods to the late songwriting great John Prine, Epp touches on his struggles with intimacy despite his vulnerability on stage. “The Girl Who Walks the World,” a sweeping ballad recounting a journey through a natural landscape, was “inspired by the spiritual state of humanity and where our world seems to be inevitably headed.” And the Americana jam “Present Moment,” which closes the album, “was channeled during spiritual reflection on death, presence, and interconnectedness.”

“As it was born, I had goosebumps on my arms and I felt a sacred presence in the room with me. In my experience, it was a sure sign that a higher power was gifting me a song that had special work to do,” Epp says. “I truly believe that Rolling Wave marks the transition into a new era for me and my work.”

Epp will support the “Rolling Wave” release with an international tour in Canada and Germany, launching April 14 in Peterborough, ON.

ED SHEERAN ANNOUNCES THE “ – “ TOUR

0

Global superstar Ed Sheeran has announced details for the “- Tour” (pronounced “Subtract Tour”), a very special run of dates set to take place in theaters and auditoriums in 14 cities across North America. Singer-songwriter Ben Kweller supports on most dates. These intimate performances – which kick off at the Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL, on May 19th, and wrap up at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA, on September 22 (see full itinerary below) – coincide with the massive stadium shows of Sheeran’s previously announced “+ – = ÷ x Tour” (pronounced “Mathematics Tour”).

To ensure more tickets get into the hands of fans who want to go to his shows, Ed Sheeran is using Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan technology for his “ – Tour.” Verified Fan uses a registration system to help filter out buyers looking to resell tickets. Registration opens on Friday, April 28th at 10:00am ET and closes on Sunday, April 30th at 11:59pm ET.

The newly announced tour supports Sheeran’s forthcoming, soul-baring, new album “ – “ will be released on May 5 via Atlantic Records and is available for pre-order here. Written against a backdrop of grief and hope, Ed wrote and recorded the fourteen-track record with Aaron Dessner (of The National) in February last year after a series of hard-hitting events impacted his life. Last week saw the arrival of the album’s poignant opening track “Boat,” following lead single “Eyes Closed,” which marked Ed’s 14th #1 in the UK, earning him the 3rd most chart toppers in UK history, behind only Elvis Presley and the Beatles.

To coincide with the arrival of “ – “, the all-new, four-part documentary “Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All” will begin streaming on Disney+ starting May 3. Blending never-before-seen personal archive, interviews and performances, the intimate documentary explores how his personal experiences have shaped him to become the artist he is today. Watch the emotional, official trailer here.

Ed will begin the North American leg of his worldwide “+ – = ÷ x Tour,” hitting stadiums across the continent starting May 6 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX (full itinerary below). The trek marks his first stateside tour since the history-making “Divide Tour” in 2018, which officially became the most-attended and highest-grossing tour of all time by its completion. Ed closed 2022 topping Billboard’s Top Ticket Sales chart after wrapping the UK/European leg of the “+ – = ÷ x Tour,” performing in front of over 3 million people in 6 months, highlighted by a five-night stand at London’s Wembley Stadium.
