Stacey Ryan Releases New Single “Over Tonight”

0

inger, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Stacey Ryan starts off the new year with a bang, with the release of her new highly anticipated single “Over Tonight” out today via Island Records. The alluring, R&B-tinged single tells the tale of a friends with benefits relationship taking a turn for the worst: when one party inevitably starts to develop feelings, an instance many know all too well.

2023 is poised to be a huge year for Ryan, as she just kicked off her LA residency yesterday, January 12th at The Sun Rose, where she’ll be playing every Thursday for the rest of the month. Stacey will also be joining Jake Wesley Rogers on his North American tour kicking off February 24th. Later this spring, she’ll be joining Joshua Bassett on the road for his European tour.

Stacey Ryan has the rare gift of turning heartache into beautiful, bubbly soul-pop ballads. Her breakthrough “Don’t Text Me When You’re Drunk” collabo with Zai1k has garnered 19 million global streams, catapulting Stacey to the center of the year’s most viral TikTok trend. Her deeply personal account of an all-too-common dating experience, the track is a sparkling piece of soul-pop with effervescent textures, bright percussion, and mesmerizing piano work that brilliantly contrast Stacey’s emphatic refusal to compromise her needs. In July, Stacey was one of eight acts personally chosen by Duran Duran to open their BST Hyde Park festival show in London. Her most recent single “Deep End,” a warm summery uptempo track, was released in August as an ode to the end of summer. “Deep End” follows up “Fall In Love Alone,” , a look at potentially unrequited love, knowing the other person has a hard time committing and hoping they don’t fall in love…alone. The song became a massive smash in the fall of 2022, racking up a whopping 100 million global streams. Her ever-evolving body of work continues to show the full extent of her songwriting powers and one-of-a-kind musical imagination. A classically trained jazz pianist who also plays guitar, bass, ukulele, and trumpet, she possesses an undeniable knack for lyrical storytelling, melodies that endlessly wander into unexpected places, a singular sense of rhythm and song structure that wholly reflects her jazz background.

Genesis To Release ‘BBC Broadcasts’ 5-CD Set

0

Genesis ‘BBC Broadcasts’ is an extensive collection of broadcast material from one of the biggest selling recording artists of all time and one of Britain’s most internationally renowned bands. Curated by founder member Tony Banks and the group’s long-time engineer and producer Nick Davis it is available as a 53-track 5-CD set and 24-track triple LP and available here.

These collections represent the cream of the group’s work recorded by the BBC between 1970 and 1998, and it includes contributions from all three of the group’s vocalists, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins and Ray Wilson. With notes by author Michael Hann, and packaged with a 40-page booklet, ‘BBC Broadcasts’ contains favourites such as ‘Home By The Sea’, ‘Mama’, ‘Duchess’, ‘Carpet Crawlers’, ‘No Son Of Mine’ ‘Turn It On Again’ and many more.

With only a handful of these tracks previously officially available, Genesis ‘BBC Broadcasts’ acts as both a collector’s cornucopia and an alternative “greatest hits”. Stretching from the very beginnings of the band’s career via appearances on ‘Night Ride’ and John Peel, the set encompasses both of the group’s Knebworth performances (78 and 92) as well as their much-loved 1980 show at London’s Lyceum, and triumphant sell-out run of shows at Wembley in 1987.

Rounded out by material from the NEC in 1998 and Paris Theatre and Nightride sessions from the early 70s, as well as the much sought-after encore version of ‘Watcher Of The Skies’ at Wembley Empire Pool in 1975, Genesis ‘BBC Broadcasts’ is a veritable treasure trove.

Watch The Smile Perform 3 Songs On “Tiny Desk Concert” For NPR

“Surely my musical highlight for 2022 was this Tiny Desk concert from The Smile. Just how Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner were going to perform songs from their sonically adventurous album A Light for Attracting Attention was a puzzle not only to me but to the band. They arrived early, along with saxophonist Robert Stillman, to test out several tunes and figure out just what made sense behind my desk — minus the volume and effects that shape the album’s sonic landscape. For roughly 90 minutes, the Tiny Desk crew was treated to a casual rehearsal, witnessing the band’s creative companionship work itself out, settling on four songs,” says Bob Boilen.

U2’s ‘Songs Of Surrender’ : 40 Songs Re-Recorded And Reimagined Out March 17, 2023

0

U2 have announced the release of Songs Of Surrender – a collection of 40 seminal songs from across the band’s catalogue, re-recorded and reimagined for 2023 in sessions spanning the last two years, to be released in full on Friday 17th March. The first track to be made available from this brand new set of recordings is the anthemic “Pride (In The Name Of Love)”.

Songs Of Surrender is curated and produced by The Edge and sees the band revisit some of the most celebrated songs of their 40+ year career, including “With Or Without You”, “One”, “Beautiful Day”, “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “Invisible”, for a musical reimagining resulting in a completely new recording of each track, to include the arrangements and, in some cases, new lyrics.

The Edge said of the project: “Music allows you to time travel, and we became curious to find out what it would be like to bring our early songs back with us to the present day and give them the benefit, or otherwise, of a 21st century reimagining.

What started out as an experiment quickly developed into a personal obsession as so many of our songs yielded to a new interpretation. Intimacy replaced post punk urgency. New tempos, new keys, and in some cases new chords and new lyrics arrived. A great song, it turns out is kind of indestructible.

The process of selecting which songs to revisit started with a series of demos. I looked at how a song would hang together if all but the bare essential elements were taken away. The other main aim was to find ways to bring intimacy into the songs, as most of them were originally written with live concert performance in mind.

Reviewing these sketch recordings with producer Bob Ezrin, it was very easy to see the ones that worked straight off the bat and those that needed more work. We all got into the sensibility of less is more.”

The 40 newly recorded tracks are collected together under each of the four band member names across four separate ‘albums’, with The Edge adding – “Hearing the songs interact, and finding the running orders for the four albums was really thrilling; finding the surprising segues, getting a chance to DJ. Once we had four distinct albums it was easy to see who would be the figurehead for each one.”
