The Who ‘The Who With Orchestra Live At Wembley’ To Be Released March 31

0

On July 6, 2019, The Who headlined Wembley Stadium in London for the first time in forty years. The show was the only U.K. date on their ‘Moving On’ Tour and featured the band accompanied by an over 50-piece orchestra performing classic tracks from Quadrophenia, Tommy, Who’s Next, Who Are You and more as well tracks from their WHO album, their first studio release in thirteen years.

The Who With Orchestra Live At Wembley will be released on March 31st as a limited edition yellow, orange & red 3LP set, triple black vinyl and a 2CD / Blu-Ray set which features the audio remixed in Dolby Atmos. In addition, all formats feature a booklet with unseen photos from the show.

Performing with The Who and an orchestra had been a long-held ambition for singer Roger Daltrey “Just because it is The Who with an orchestra, in no way does it compromise the way Pete and I deliver our music. It is full throttle Who with horns and bells on.” Pete Townshend “Roger christened this tour Moving On! I love it. It is what both of us want to do. Move on, with new music, classic Who music, all performed in new and exciting ways. Taking risks, nothing to lose.”

Backed by an all-star band of guitarist JD McPherson, drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Dennis Crouch, string player Stuart Duncan, and Viktor Krauss on keyboards and guitar, setlists have included favorites from both Raising Sand and Raise the Roof, as well as reimagined arrangements of Led Zeppelin classics.

A highlight of their recent tour was the band’s performance at Denver’s storied Red Rocks Amphitheatre on September 1. Now, for the first time, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss: Live at Red Rocks will be available to stream in its entirety on March 16 at 8:00 PM GMT for viewers in the UK/Europe and 8:00 PM ET for US viewers, exclusively via Mandolin, the music industry’s leading digital fan engagement platform. Elton John’s ‘Honky Château’ 50th Anniversary Reissue Announced

0

UMe today announces the 50th-anniversary reissue of Elton John’s Honky Château. Available to pre-order now on 2CD, 2LP and limited-edition gold vinyl LP, the album is released on March 24th. “Rocket Man (Live at The Festival Hall, London 1972)” and “Mellow” (Session Demo) are also unveiled today as the first instant grats available from Honky Château 50th Anniversary Edition. This live debut of “Rocket Man at the Royal Festival Hall” – recorded two months before its release as the album’s first single – is striking in its freshness and its ability to nearly replicate the studio arrangement on stage. The line-up of Davey Johnstone (guitar), Dee Murray (bass) and Nigel Olsson (drums) immediately established itself as the core of the “classic” Elton band, solidifying Elton’s studio and stage presence through his most prolific period.

Honky Château was Elton’s step into global superstardom, spawning classics such as the aforementioned “Rocket Man,” “Honky Cat” and “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters.” Originally released in May 1972, his 5th studio album ushered in a to-this-day unparalleled hot streak of classic albums and was the first time he recorded at the now legendary Château d’Hérouville, a residential recording studio situated 25 miles north-west of Paris. It was here where he and Bernie Taupin were to write – and the band subsequently record – some of the biggest global hits of his career. Elton, Bernie and the band – performing together on record for the first time – decamped to the Château for week’s pre-production on Honky Château in January 1972. Bernie brought his typewriter; the band set up in the dining room. Bernie would write lyrics at night and leave them on Elton’s piano for him to work on in the morning.

As Elton recalls of their notoriously prolific output at the time, “The first morning we were there, I had three (songs) done by the time the band drifted downstairs looking for something to eat: ‘Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters,’ ‘Amy’ and ‘Rocket Man.’” The remainder of the album would follow suit; ‘Susie (Dramas),’ ‘Hercules,’ ‘Salvation,’ ‘Honky Cat,’ ‘Slave,’ ‘I Think I’m Going To Kill Myself’ and ‘Mellow.’”

A pivotal album in Elton’s ascent to superstardom, the album’s sepia-tinged cover belies the effortless grooves within of a band who had truly found their feet as a unit. By mid-1972 their live recordings now matched their hallowed live shows, and they effortlessly channelled a soulful sound that effortlessly drew together the deep south of America via Pinner and the Parisian suburbs.

Following the release of Honky Château, by June 1972 “Rocket Man” was in the UK pop charts at No 2. In the US, the single reached No 6. Honky Château became the first of six consecutive Billboard Hot 100 No 1 albums. It remains a firm fixture in the setlist of this record-breaking Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. “Honky Cat” showcased the extraordinary swagger that was to define all of Elton’s work for the following half-decade. His first up-tempo number to make the US Top 10, the track helped cement Elton’s reputation in America.

Still a shining jewel in Elton’s back catalogue, Honky Château was the album that announced his arrival on the world stage. Its impact and legacy endures to this day, and it will forever be remembered as the album where the Rocket Man truly took flight.

Hayley Kiyoko Announces “The Panorama Tour”

0

Celebrating her critically acclaimed sophomore album, PANORAMA, trailblazing pop star Hayley Kiyoko will embark on The PANORAMA Tour this spring. Produced by Live Nation, the global headline run kicks off overseas on April 5th and travels through June 2nd with 24 North American stops including The Wiltern in Los Angeles on May 16th and Irving Plaza in New York City on May 30th.

Co-written by Hayley and produced by Kiyoko, Danja (Beyoncé, Britney Spears) and Pat Morrisey & Kill Dave, the transformative 12-track album, highlighted by lead singles, “For The Girls,” “Chance” and “Found My Friends,” received rave reviews from The New York Times, FADER, Billboard, SPIN, PAPER, V Magazine, Variety, Entertainment Weekly and more. The trailblazing musician, adoringly called “Lesbian Jesus” by her legion of fans, also graced the cover of Teen Vogue’s Music issue and was declared “Artist Of The Year” by Out Magazine as she covered the esteemed Out100 issue.

Kiyoko has become one of the most celebrated pop artists since releasing her debut album EXPECTATIONS, which — according to Rolling Stone, placed her “at the forefront of an unapologetically queer pop movement.” In #20GAYTEEN, the multi-hyphenate performer was nominated for two VMAs and won “Push Artist Of The Year.” Since her 2015 debut, Hayley has amassed over 1B global streams and over 2.28M YouTube subscribers, accrued over 840M lifetime YouTube views, and sold-out numerous venues across the country and abroad. Lauded as one of “The 21st Century’s Most Influential Women Musicians” by NPR, Hayley inspires her community through nuanced storytelling and lyricism, encouraging hope as her resounding message.

This year, Hayley will debut her first novel, a coming-of-age romance based on her breakthrough hit song and viral video, GIRLS LIKE GIRLS, available for pre-order now and arriving on May 30th.
