Declan McKenna recently sold out all 16 dates on his 2022 US tour and today he announces the extensive 50+ date “The Big Return” tour of North America. Said McKenna about the upcoming tour, “buzzing to get this new era underway all across North America this year! We’ll be weaving in some new material on the tour that I’m more than ready to show everyone. Expect Big, Expect my Return.”

McKenna will perform in cities including Washington D.C., Seattle, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, NYC, Nashville, Atlanta, and more (full dates below) between late May and early November. The tour will kick off on May 25th at Montreal’s Corona Theatre and feature support by Oracle Sisters, Eli Smart, Allie Crow Buckley. Since finishing his tour last year cKenna has been working with producer Gianluca Buccellati in LA and in his hometown of Brighton, UK, on the follow up to Zeros. Of Zeros, Pitchfork said “nodding to Bowie and the Beates on songs about climate change and capitalism, the songwriter roots his political critique in the rich tradition of British protest rock.” Zeros, produced by Jay Joyce with mixing b Spike Stent, is available for purchase on all formats here. He also shared his single “My House,” which features vocals from Rostam and was co-produced by McKenna and Neil Comber(whose credits include MIA, Charlie XCX, and Florence + The Machine), and it is streaming now HERE.

FLÓÐ by Jónsi, Immersive Art Exhibition, Opens Next Week at National Nordic Museum

0

Jónsi (Jón Þór Birgisson), lead singer of the world-famous Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós, created an experiential artwork for the National Nordic Museum. FLÓÐ, “Flood” in Icelandic, opens on March 17th and runs through July 30th.
The exhibit is a captivating art experience inspired by the ocean and the dire realities of climate change. It features original music created by Jónsi and invites participants to let the room engage all their senses.

FLÓÐ is Jónsi’s first U.S. museum exhibition and represents the natural connection between sister cities, Seattle and Reykjavík. It immerses participants in an oceanic interpretation. Jónsi’s music is augmented by a choir composition and field recordings, simulating the experience of a wave traveling the length of the gallery while the scent of seaweed, tinctured and distilled by the artist, fills the air, and a delicate mist of droplets touch the skin.

When asked about the exhibit, Jónsi said “It is a spatial scent and sound sculpture, my main inspiration being the ocean. First, I was thinking about Reykjavík and Seattle, both being these coastal fishing cities and the ocean being this ominous and mysterious force playing a central part in our lives.”

Jónsi has also designed installations that replicate other natural phenomena, including white-out blizzard conditions and a volcanic eruption in his home country of Iceland.
There are numerous programs for visitors to gain a deeper understanding of FLÓÐ, including art classes and a silent disco with a Jónsi-curated playlist on July 28. A University of Washington professor gives a lightning-style lecture on the Viking Era before screening How to Train Your Dragon 2 – featuring Jónsi’s music – in the Museum’s final installment of the Fact & Fiction Film Series. In June, Icelandic wellness expert Jósa Goodlife will offer several sound bath experiences. For younger visitors, there will be opportunities to enjoy sensory play days on a monthly basis from April through June.

The Cranberries Celebrates The 30th Anniversary Of “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?” With Immersive Dolby Atmos Mixes

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of The Cranberries’ groundbreaking debut album, Island/UMe is releasing Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? in Dolby ATMOS Music. “The Atmos remixes are a whole different listening experience for us,” says drummer Fergal Lawler. “It feels more like being onstage at a concert, being surrounded by the band. There are certain intricate parts that subtly pop out every now and then, causing you to feel more immersed in the songs.” Listen to Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? in Dolby Atmos Music HERE.

Reflecting on the album’s history, Lawler recalls, “It’s hard to believe that it’s thirty years later. It seems like it wasn’t so long ago because we all have vivid memories of that wonderful time. We went through a few false starts before we finally got to begin recording with [producer] Stephen Street in a cozy little studio, Windmill Lane 2, just off Stephen’s Green in Dublin. We knew Steve was going to do a great job of capturing ‘The Cranberries sound’.”

Originally released on March 1, 1993, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? hit the No. 1 spot in both the UK and Ireland and has sold more than six million copies worldwide. Spawning two Top Ten singles – the debut lead single “Dreams” and its mainstream breakthrough follow-up “Linger” which cemented the band’s position within the rock world, the album highlighted the unique vocal stylings of Dolores O’Riordan (whose untimely passing in 2018 rocked the music industry). Combining Gaelic, Catholic, and indie vocal influences, O’Riordan coupled her relatable lyrics that captured the frustrations of late adolescence, giving these songs universal appeal. In the 30 years since its release, this carefully crafted debut has stood the test of time as a landmark album.

Snow Patrol Announce 20th Anniversary Edition Of ‘Final Straw’

0

Snow Patrol has announced details of a 20th Anniversary edition of their classic record Final Straw, with a previously unreleased demo version of their anthemic hit “Chocolate” out now. The album will be released digitally via UMe on March 31, with a special double vinyl edition following on August 4 to mark the record’s original release date 20 years on. The anniversary edition includes 23 additional tracks*, including never-before-heard demos, B-sides, live tracks from the band’s August 2004 show at London’s Somerset House, and a previously commercially unreleased track, “Tired.” Click HERE to preorder the 20th Anniversary LP of Final Straw.

“I still have days where I don’t believe much of the last 20 years,” writes Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody in extensive liner notes accompanying the release. “In the back of my mind, I’m still waiting for the tap on the shoulder and someone saying, ‘you’re not supposed to be here.’ In a lot of ways, it’s a gift we were given. We’ve never taken any of what happened after the release of this album for granted.” Alongside Gary’s recollections, the package also includes writings on Final Straw from Jo Whiley and Fiction Records MD Jim Chancellor.

Final Straw was Snow Patrol’s third album and their major label debut. Written and recorded during a make-or-break period for the quartet, it set them on the path to becoming one of the biggest British guitar groups of the 21st century. Their 2006 single “Chasing Cars,” taken from Final Straw’s follow-up “Eyes Open,” is one of the biggest songs of all time, a five-times platinum hit with streams of one billion on Spotify and three million combined sales.

Final Straw, though, is where everything began to fall in place for Snow Patrol. Propelled by the stirring ballad “Run,” which has over 127,000,000 Spotify plays, and urgent, hooky singalongs such as “Chocolate” and “Spitting Games,” Final Straw went on to sell over four million copies worldwide, inclusive of 1.8 million sales in the UK going six-times platinum in the process. Nothing would ever be the same for Snow Patrol after its release. Here’s to revisiting the record that changed everything.

Today, legendary, two time GRAMMY-award winning producer DJ Jazzy Jeff has officially launched his debut online music producing program, Command Central: Making Beats.

Powered by CafeMedia, the intensive six-week online program will provide content creators, DJs and aspiring producers of all skill levels with the resources to build the core foundational skills for music production. Each week will sharpen participants’ beat making skills through intricate video module lessons ranging from drums, melody, arrangements, mixing, and sampling which participants will then apply to their own produced tracks. DJ Jazzy Jeff will be joined by award-winning colleagues, and other surprise guests for live sessions and one-on-one feedback throughout the program.

“I’m excited to be launching this new program,” said DJ Jazzy Jeff. “It’s really important for me to pass down knowledge that I have acquired to the next generation of producers and Beatmakers. Giving the next generation a shot to make it in the music industry is special to me.”

The course will be available in two different tiers:

– DIY version: Includes the full-video program, written exercises, and bonus resources.
– Interactive version: Includes the full-video program, written exercises, bonus resources, weekly live sessions with DJ Jazzy Jeff and other special guests, the exclusive chance to have produced work played in DJ Jazzy Jeff’s live DJ sets, weekly feedback on submitted tracks and exclusive access to online student community forums

By the end of the program, students will be equipped with three finished tracks of their own and a wealth of newly cultivated production skills vital to each participant’s expanding musical career. The Making Beats program bridges accessibility gaps for emerging creatives in the music community.

Widely recognized for multi-platinum, Grammy-winning collaborations with Will Smith and renowned work as one half of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, the Philadelphia native stands as a pioneer in the hip-hop genre. DJ Jazzy Jeff’s rich music legacy spans more than three decades including a DMC Championship, American Music Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and multiple GRAMMY Awards including the first GRAMMY for Best Rap Performance. Recently joining fellow icons on the 2023 GRAMMYs stage for the ceremony’s 50 Years of Hip-Hop Tribute performance, the producer is bringing his legacy full circle to guide the new wave of music producers set to shape the industry we recognize today.
