Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets Extend International Tour Into Spring 2025

0

Nick LoweĀ andĀ Los StraitjacketsĀ are set to bringĀ Indoor SafariĀ back to North America next year, announcing new West Coast tour dates for February and March 2025. The tour will include their first shows in many major cities since releasingĀ Indoor SafariĀ on Yep Roc Records in September, which marked Lowe’s first LP release in over a decade. The just-added 2025 dates include multi-night stands in Los Angeles (Troubadour), Portland (Mississippi Studios) and Seattle (Tractor Tavern) – as well as their return to San Francisco (Great American Music Hall), Napa (Uptown Theatre) and more.

The news comes just after Lowe, theĀ ā€œmaster songwriter who never takes himself too seriouslyā€Ā (Rolling Stone), wrapped a celebrated month-long U.S. run alongside Los Straitjackets – America’s beloved masked men of surf-and-spy guitar instrumentals.Ā The live showĀ celebrates a new album deemedĀ ā€œa masterclass in simple elegance and timeless tunesā€Ā (Salon),Ā ā€œeffortlessly coolā€Ā (Paste) andĀ ā€œpop genius…a thrillā€Ā (Bandcamp).Ā “Lowe and Los Straitjackets are a match made in heaven,ā€Ā raved Forbes’ David Chiu at one of the recent New York shows.Ā ā€œIt was a killer evening filled with top-notch songs.”Ā They’ll cap off 2024 with three December dates in Texas, before heading back to Europe in early 2025.

It’s been a busy and exciting year for Lowe; who marked the release ofĀ Indoor SafariĀ with an extensive national television profile on PBS Newshour.Ā ā€œIt’s hard to find rock ā€˜n’ roll credentials more solid than Nick Lowe’s,ā€Ā they note in the piece’s intro. Produced by Lowe, Indoor Safari was recorded in various locations, and mixed by Alex Hall (JD McPherson, Cactus Blossoms) alongside Lowe at Reliable Recorders in Chicago. The album represents a culmination of Lowe’s decade-long working relationship with Los Straitjackets: Eddie Angel/guitar, Pete Curry/bass, Chris Sprague/drums and Greg Townson/guitar.

To celebrate an incredible year which has seen David Gilmour’s new album. Luck And Strange, hit the #1 spot in 8 countries and top ten in a further 14, as well as multiple sold-out shows in Rome, London, Los Angeles and New York, Gilmour has today released a very special live version of the first single from Luck And Strange, “The Piper’s Call”.

The Piper’s Call Live Around The World is a digital only release and was recorded at The Brighton Centre, Circus Maximus in Rome, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles and Madison Square Garden in New York and edited together by Gilmour, Charlie Andrew and Matt Glasby to form one seamless track recorded throughout the Luck And Strange tour.

David Gilmour: ā€œOn the Luck and Strange tour, I played with the best band I’ve ever had. Their personalities, playing abilities and enthusiasm for my new music have made for a fabulous experience for Polly and me. Romany’s voice really stands out and has its own particular character, she brings a sense of mischief and fun to the live performance, which I think we needed. Thank you to everyone who attended the shows in Europe and America and thank you for buying ‘Luck and Strange’. I hope you found as much enjoyment in the music as we did while performing it.ā€

Luck And Strange was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years. The record was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, best known for his work with alt-J and Marika Hackman. 0

To mark the release of the remixed, remastered and extended Queen 1 boxset, the band have released the fourth episode in their Queen The Greatest Special series.

A message states: “Queen’s reputation for music videos is legendary, but that journey had to begin somewhere, and in this episode we head back to 1973 and revisit the band’s first steps.Ā  And in an exclusive interview, Roger Taylor and Brian May reveal that after a BBC TV show provided the inspiration, the introduction to life in front of the film cameras was far from an enjoyable and rewarding experience.”

Watch the first three Queen The Greatest Special episodes below:

Episode 1:

Episode 2:

Episode 3:

The 6CD + 1 LP Queen I box set (out now) contains 63 tracks with 43 brand new mixes, comprising the original album with its intended running order restored, intimate fly-on-the-wall audio of Queen in the studio, demos, rare live tracks, and previously unheard recordings from Queen’s first ever live performance in London, August 1970. Absent from the 1973 release, the song ā€œMad the Swineā€ has been reinstated to its original place in the running order. A 108-page book containing handwritten lyrics and memorabilia accompanies the release.

ā€œThis is not just a remaster,ā€ writes Brian May in the CD sleeve insert notes, ā€œthis is a brand new 2024 rebuild of the entire Queen debut album, which, with the benefit of hindsight, we have re-titled QUEEN I.ā€

May continues, ā€œAll the performances are exactly as they originally appeared in 1973, but every instrument has been revisited to produce the ā€˜live’ ambient sounds we would have liked to use originally. The result is ā€œQueenā€œ as it would have sounded with today’s knowledge and technology – a first.ā€

ā€œQueen I is the debut album we always dreamed of bringing to you.ā€

Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe Expands ‘Just Beyond The Light’ Book Tour

0

Lamb Of God frontman Randy Blythe’s sophomore book, “JUST BEYOND THE LIGHT: Making Peace with The Wars Inside Our Head” arrives Feb. 18 via Grand Central Publishing/Hachette Book Group. In anticipation of its release, the Lamb of God frontman has expanded his North American book tour to 15 dates.

The special ā€œevening withā€ event includes a spoken word performance, an audience Q&A session, a copy of ā€œJust Beyond the Light,ā€ and an opportunity to have the book signed. Tickets for the newly announced dates go on sale Friday, December 13, at 12 noon local time viaĀ randyblythe.net.

“I’m stoked to hit the road in support of my new book, ‘Just Beyond the Light’ – this will be my first solo tour, and without a band behind me, what can people expect? Well, a little bit of book talk… and a bunch of insane stories from my whacked-out life, obviously. I’ll also be answering some questions and signing stuff after – see ya there, ladies & gents!”

Blythe’s previously released memoir, “Dark Days,” focused on the Richmond-based vocalist’s personal story, with a candid re-telling of both his brightest and darkest days. With “Just Beyond The Light,” Blythe shares how he works daily to maintain positivity in a world that feels like it is spinning out of control. In his own words, “Just Beyond the Light” is a “tight, concise roadmap of how I have attempted to maintain what I believe to be a proper perspective in life, even during difficult times.” Written with a scathing balance of hard-edged reality offset by a knowing humor and a razor-sharp wit, voiced in in his inimitable, conversational, everyman-philosopher style, Blythe clearly breaks down his approach to life, which is a personal and idiosyncratic mix of sobriety, art, and surfing. He writes movingly of his childhood in the South, of fallen friends, of what he’s learned touring the world as the vocalist of a successful heavy metal band, and of the very real ways he is doing what he can to leave the world a better place. Above all, he offers readers hope that balance, real balance, is possible, even (or especially) when things seem hopeless.

“For me, the single most gratifying aspect of being an artist is learning that your work has been useful to others in some way. I’ve been told by lots of readers that my last book, ‘Dark Days,’ helped them- I hope ‘Just Beyond the Light’ does the same,” says Blythe, about this highly anticipated follow-up memoir.

Envy Of None Release Atmospheric New Single “Under The Stars” Ahead of Spring 2025 Album

0

Following the release of their superb single “Not Dead Yet” in October, rock supergroup Envy Of None – made up of Alf Annibalini, Andy Curran, Alex Lifeson, Maiah Wynne – are back with the follow up, “Under The Stars”.

Speaking on the single, songwriter and bassist Andy Curran said, ā€œAlf and I toiled over this one for months and really felt, even at its rough demo stage that we had something special. We left a ton of space for Maiah in the verses and there’s such a cool mood shift when the chorus hits. Joe Vitale’s drum track and percussion added an almost trance like vibe and the icing on the cake, is an unmistakable ā€œAlexā€ guitar solo. I’m a romantic at heart and the message here is universal. Soul mates, ‘two against the world!'”

Stream/download “Under The Stars”Ā here, and watch the Olivier Boscovitch-created music video below:

Envy of None are busy in the studio finishing off their next album and the follow-up to 2022’s self-titled debut, expected in spring 2025.
