Roy Woods Is Back With Passionate New Single “Insecure” On OVO Sound

0

Gearing up for a momentous next chapter, multi-platinum Toronto R&B auteur Roy Woods unveils a new single and music video entitled “Insecure” on OVO Sound today. Produced by Harv (Justin Bieber’s “Peaches” [feat. Daniel Caesar & Giveon]), it marks his first solo single of 2022.

The track’s lightly plucked guitar ebbs and flows with the romantic rise and fall of his falsetto. His dynamic vocals provide the perfect soundtrack to the accompanying music video; a nod to the Robert Rodriguez-directed nineties cult classic feature film Desperado. Roy pays homage to the iconic Antonio Banderas antihero with his trick guitar case and thirst for vengeance.

“Insecure” heralds the arrival of Roy’s anxiously awaited forthcoming album Mixed Emotions—due out this summer. The song also arrives as the follow-up to last year’s “Touch You,” which amassed over 10 million Spotify streams and 1.3 million YouTube views on the music video.

Roy Woods continues to level up on his own terms. He has impressively generated a staggering 2 billion total global streams and 1.2 billion total US streams. His 2018 album, Say Less, notably bowed at #11 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Chart. Along the way, he has packed houses on headline tours and supported the likes of Drake, Future, and Migos in arenas and amphitheaters.

Eric Clapton’s “Nothing But The Blues” Documentary & Soundtrack To Be Released June 24

0

Eric Clapton’s lifelong passion for the blues burns brightly in Nothing But The Blues. The film – which was broadcasted once in the U.S. on PBS in 1995 and nominated for an Emmy Award – has been upgraded to 4K for its long-awaited official release. In addition to the film, Reprise will release a new soundtrack with more than an hour of previously unreleased live performances recorded in 1994 during the legendary guitarist’s tour supporting From The Cradle, his Grammy-winning, multi-platinum blues album.

The documentary and soundtrack will be released in multiple formats, including a super deluxe limited edition boxed set, CD, Blu-rRay, DVD, and digitally, on June 24.

Written and produced by Scooter Weintraub and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, the documentary includes an in-depth interview with Clapton conducted by Scorsese. Throughout the interview, Clapton discusses his love for the blues and the profound impact bluesmen like Muddy Waters and B.B. King had on his music. Many of those artists (Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, T-Bone Walker) appear in the film through vintage performances, interviews, and photographs.

At the heart of the film and audio formats are Clapton’s performances of blues standards and lesser-known blues songs. The CD features 17 songs; the double LP 18, and the DVD and Blu-ray each contain 20 songs. Two nights at the Fillmore in San Francisco (November 8 & 9, 1994) were filmed and recorded during his acclaimed From The Cradle tour, and the highlights from the two shows were selected for this release. Likewise, Clapton’s longtime co-producer, Simon Climie, has remixed the audio from those performances from the original multi-tracking recordings.

NOTHING BUT THE BLUES and the accompanying soundtrack will be released on June 24 in multiple formats. The Super Deluxe Edition comes with the documentary on Blu-ray, the soundtrack on both 2-LP vinyl and CD, a bonus CD with four extra tracks “Driftin’,” County Jail Blues,” “Kid Man Blues,” and “It’s Too Bad,” and an exclusive hardcover book with memorabilia, including a numbered lithograph, 12×24 poster, Clapton guitar string set, custom guitar picks, and an exclusive bandana.

The documentary will be available separately on Blu-ray and DVD. Additionally, the soundtrack will be released as a standalone on 2-LP vinyl and CD. The music will also be available from digital and streaming services on the same day. Those who pre-order will have instant access to Clapton’s unreleased live performance of Freddie King’s “Have You Ever Loved A Woman.”

The previously unreleased live performances on NOTHING BUT THE BLUES serve as a vital counterpart to From The Cradle, which was recorded in the studio. While several songs appear on both (“Motherless Child,” “Standing ’Round Crying,” and “I’m Tore Down”), the performances are entirely different. A live performance of “Have You Ever Loved A Woman” remixed and upgraded to 4K is available now.

The upcoming soundtrack also includes songs that did not appear on From the Cradle, including Jimmy Rogers’ “Blues All Day Long” and Robert Johnson’s “Malted Milk,” as well as the standards “Every Day I Have The Blues” and “Forty-Four.”

Initially released in 1994 by Warner Bros. Records, From The Cradle was certified triple-platinum in the U.S., where it topped the Billboard 200. The album was certified gold and topped the charts to become certified gold, platinum, or multi-platinum in many countries.

Madonna’s “Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones” Celebrate Her #1 Club Hits Across Four Decades

0

Madonna made history once again when she topped the Dance Club chart for the 50th time, making her the first and only recording artist to have 50 #1 hits on any single Billboard chart.

To celebrate this historic milestone, Madonna curated two new collections: FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE: 50 NUMBER ONES, a new 50-track collection that includes her favorite remixes of those chart-topping dance hits that have filled clubs worldwide for four decades, and an abridged 16-track version, simply titled FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE.

These new collections will mark the first album releases to be part of the newly announced partnership between Madonna and Warner Music Group, which will feature an extensive series of catalog releases across her groundbreaking career.

50 NUMBER ONES spans her entire dance club chart reign with dozens of remixes by the world’s top producers. In addition to fan favorites, the collection also includes a selection of rare remix recordings, with more than 20 being officially released for the first time or making their commercial/digital debut. The collection will be available digitally on August 19, along with a 3-CD version. A limited edition, 6-LP version on red and black vinyl will also be available, exclusively at Madonna’s official store and Rhino.com. Pre-order now.

The 16-track version, FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE, will be available for streaming on June 24, with 1-CD and 180-gram 2-LP versions coming on August 19. Pre-order and Pre-save now.

As a first listen to these collections, the “You Can Dance Remix Edit” of “Into The Groove” is available today digitally for the first time.

Boasting more than 220 minutes of remixes, FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE: 50 NUMBER ONES flows in mostly chronological order, showcasing the many musical reinventions that made Madonna an international icon, from 1983’s “Holiday” to 2019’s “I Don’t Search I Find,” with remixes by some of the biggest and most influential DJs of all time including Shep Pettibone, William Orbit, Honey Dijon, and Avicii.

On several songs, Madonna is joined by other incredible artists, including Britney Spears (“Me Against The Music”); Justin Timberlake and Timbaland (“4 Minutes”); and Nicki Minaj (“Bitch I’m Madonna.”) Each remix was newly remastered for the collection by Mike Dean, who produced Madonna’s two most-recent studio albums, Rebel Heart (2015) and Madame X (2019).

Both of these new collections also highlight You Can Dance, Madonna’s first ever remix collection. Celebrating 35 years this year, You Can Dance has sold more than five million copies worldwide and is still the second best-selling remix album of all time. The collection also pays homage to “Everybody,” Madonna’s first single, celebrating its 40th Anniversary on October 6. Madonna redesigned the album’s chronology by picking three edits from You Can Dance, including “Into The Groove”, “Everybody” and “Physical Attraction,” which reflects the underground club vibes that inspired her first recordings as a Sire artist.

Along with those rarities, these albums also introduce versions that are seeing their first ever official release, including the “Alternate Single Remix” of “Keep It Together,” the “Offer Nissim Promo Mix” of “Living For Love,” and more.

In advance of the debut of FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE in June, one of the 50 chart toppers – “Causing A Commotion” – was spotlighted early as an exclusive release for this year’s Record Store Day on April 23. Three remixes of the track appeared on the limited edition, five-track, red vinyl 12” EP Who’s That Girl Super Club Mix.

Expect more surprises to be revealed later this year around the celebration of Madonna’s 40 years in music.

Pop Artist Lorand Kis Delivers Sonically Soothing New Single, “Where We Are”

0

Even as it coasts slowly, life can move equally as quickly, and the juxtaposition of living life in the fast lane, while weaving in and out of the passing yellows is expertly summed up in the sonic-soothing delivery of artist Lorand Kis’ new single, “Where We Are.”

The Boca Raton Florida-native turned Toronto transplant is a trifecta of media talent. Having spent time acting, singing, and yarn-spinning, Kis has stood out against the masses with his unique flair for blending electronica with pop, poetically harnessing indie and alternative.

“The way I wrote ‘Where We Are’ is similar to how I usually write my songs,” Kis explains. “I essentially started out with developing a chord progression on the piano. I found this mellow, echoed piano on Studio One and I started to make this chord progression that I thought was very interesting sonically. From there I had the vibe of the story that I wanted to portray.”

A musician from the tender age of three, Kis began writing songs as early as twelve – a passion that became a lifelong pursuit, later translating into a career. Inspired by the events, surroundings, and circumstances around him, Kis writes from life – from experience. Among his repertoire of exciting and exemplary talents, Kis is a multi-instrumentalist, capable of creating his tracks independently, note to note.

“Another thing that I really enjoyed undertaking in this project was creating my own cover art. Recently I’ve been exploring other mediums of art and it’s been incredible to be able to look at things from different perspectives, now that I have more of an opportunity to express myself in different ways,” Kis says.

“Where We Are” is a sonic, breezy hazy dream Kis intentionally wrote to be equally mesmerizing at 7am or 7pm. The song shapeshifts; crescendos and crashes without losing sight of the flow and captivating nature of wanderlust. Layered elements of electronica production round the edges and laces the listener with incandescent feelings of understanding. We’ve all driven aimlessly, only to find ourselves wondering where we are before we realize we already knew

“After finishing a couple of preliminary tracks in my basement and finding out how I wanted the general structure of my song to flow, I sent the tracks over to a good friend of mine and former high school band member, Vega Bimasakti Purwantoro,” Kis explains. “I knew that, with his incredible production talents, he could give the song the direction it needed to sound like a polished record. From the pianos to the guitars to the lyrics

“‘Where We Are’ is meant to invite reflection in a way that we can move forward and enjoy the moment we’re in.”

Lose yourself in “Where We Are”. Because it’s right where you’re meant to be.

Son of Dave Releases New ‘Call Me King’ Album and “Someday Soon” Single

0

“Someday Soon. Got to get together and groove.”

If you’re Son of Dave, that’s not just a hope, that’s a promise. The international blues mover and shaker, also known as Benjamin Darvill, is heralding his return home to Canada with the get-in-yer-bones new single “Someday Soon” — available now alongside his much-anticipated 10th album, Call Me King.

After 24 years of living and making music in London and relentless global touring, this one-man harmonica and beatbox party is back home again in his native Winnipeg and ready to blast out his unique brand of less-is-much-more, funky and inventive rhythmic blues. That blues thump bump and wiggle are back in his stride on his 10th album of classic Son Of Dave harmonica beatbox bluesman vibes. The ten, self-written tracks on Call Me King are a tasty, groove-laden buffet of meaty rhythms punctuated by Son of Dave’s stellar harp riffs and melodies.

A sense of wry humour and sly winks come out in his lyrics and song titles like “I’m Going Monkey For Your Love”, “Waste Time With Me” and “Wild Wild You”, along with some pointed shade thrown at the ethics of modern media in “F the Daily Mail”. Son of Dave’s upcoming album is definitely gonna “Kick Your Butt”, the track title even says so.

“Someday Soon” is the fourth single release in advance of Call Me King and only Son of Dave would make a powerful, groovy single with just Chicago blues harmonica and a conga drum. That’s all that’s needed to get the point across that he’s home alone and more than ready to break away and get out on the town.

These four walls can’t hold me back
I’m going out, just deal with that
Someday soon, I’ve got to get together with you

“It’s about going out and getting together again, a universal theme for all who’ve felt isolated over the last years,” says Son of Dave.

After a couple of years filled with pandemic-necessitated isolation, many of us can certainly relate to that sentiment.

Son of Dave has been writing and recording music since the early 90s with over 50,000 in record sales to his credit. He’s taken his famous, one-man-band show across five continents for over 1400 shows. He’s appeared mainstage at festivals like The Big Chill, Bestival, Glastonbury, Montreux Jazz, The Big Day Out, and more, and also supported huge names like Iggy & The Stooges, UB40, and Supergrass, to name a few. He’s also hosted a long-running program on Soho Radio in London, playing curated selections from his extensive collection of 45rpms.

His songs have received frequent radio play throughout England, France, and Italy, and they’ve also been featured on many television and film soundtracks including series Breaking Bad, True Blood, Preacher (AMC), Gossip Girl, and the movie License To Wed (Robin Williams).

And before all this, he was a member of GRAMMY Award-nominated Canadian superstar band Crash Test Dummies for 10 years.

Son of Dave got his start in the blues and biker bars in Manitoba and now, this progressive, unique and super funky artist is back full circle after circling the globe and amassing millions of fans.
