Frontman Vaden Lewis tracked the album using analog tape and razor blades, avoiding computers to preserve a raw, live sound. The title track originated from Lewis’s pandemic soul searching, where he personified long-standing internal struggles into the character of the Charmer. Guitarist Clark Vogeler directed and edited the accompanying music video, which utilizes in-studio footage to document the band’s collaboration with Albini.
