Toronto-Based Power-Rocker jsin Unleashes High-Voltage “You Can’t Stop Me”

0

Landing alongside his raucous new release, Surrender, Canadian powerhouse rocker jsin unleashes his inner-dialogue meets high-voltage sound with new single, “You Can’t Stop Me.”

Coming from a place of self-reflection, and accepting life at face-value after years of ponderance and questioning, the song reveals a journey jsin hopes will inspire his listeners to participate in as well.

“We all have insecurities,” he shares. “We all have struggles. We all question things. But we can’t let those things drive what we do. The things that hold us back.

“This song speaks to the process of surrendering to what is, instead of trying to control things. Every song is me expressing that I have to let myself be, let myself exist — not just let my thought processes or my ego drive my actions.”

Beyond lyrics that are meant to subtly self-empower, jsin’s newest release is ground-stomping hard rock at its best. Featuring guitar riffs and a pounding drum cadence that feels like it fell off a deep-cuts Guns N’ Roses album, “You Can’t Stop Me” calls back to the singer/songwriter’s childhood influence while addressing some very relatable and adult themes, all the same.

Embodying that same energy the Toronto-based multi-talented artist effortlessly puts together for himself, the song is accompanied by an intimately-shot music video showcasing multiple stages of inner confrontation.

Having discovered a passion for performance art early on in his life, and while growing up in a house without music, jsin eventually found himself exposed to the music video for Guns N’ Roses’ “Paradise City.” With the introduction of music and, more importantly, self-expression, to the young man’s life, he started a seemingly never-ending journey of self-discovery. Spending his college years learning guitar and playing covers led to the creation of his 2009 debut album, Born. After the creation of a music video for the debut, he unlocked a new passion: acting.

Diving into these crafts showed jsin the power he had inside himself to change the way he looked at the world, and the way the world looked at him. It also gave him a platform to explore more personal roles through TV casting as well — featuring in shows such as CLAIREvoyant, The Strain, and Designated Survivor. These roles led jsin to find a more grounded sense of self, and to pursue his main goal: telling stories and encouraging others — with music.

“What works for me in music, and what works for me as an actor, is largely the same thing,” he muses. “I’m just a dude who has really looked within; I’ve gone through a lot, and faced my demons.

“Now, I’m putting that process in song form.”

multiple GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo announced on social media that her new upcoming original film, “OLIVIA RODRIGO: driving home 2 u (a SOUR film),” will debut exclusively on Disney+ on March 25, 2022.

For the first time, Olivia takes audiences on a familiar road trip from Salt Lake City, where she began writing her triple-platinum Geffen Records debut album “SOUR,” to Los Angeles. Along the way, Rodrigo recounts the memories of writing and creating her record-breaking debut album and shares her feelings as a young woman navigating a specific time in her life. Through new live arrangements of her songs, intimate interviews and never-before-seen footage from the making of the album, audiences will follow her along on a cinematic journey exploring the story of “SOUR.”

“OLIVIA RODRIGO: driving home 2 u” features 11 songs from “SOUR” performed with brand new arrangements in unique locations, including Mojave Airplane Boneyard, Roy’s Motel & Café, Arcosanti and the Red Rock Canyon State Park. It also includes special guest performances and appearances by GRAMMY®-nominated artist Jacob Collier, Blu DeTiger and Towa Bird. The film explores how “SOUR” came to be through Olivia’s personal stories and behind-the-scenes footage featuring intimate moments showcasing Olivia’s artistry in and out of the studio.

“OLIVIA RODRIGO: driving home 2 u” is a Disney+ original film from Disney Branded Television, directed by Stacey Lee and produced by Interscope Films and Supper Club.

Soul-Rockers HOROJO Trio Featuring JW-Jones ‘Set The Record’ with Debut Album Release on Stony Plain Records

0

HOROJO Trio (pronunciation: HO-RO-JO, as in HO – Think Santa Claus; RO – “Row Your Boat”; and JO – “Joe”) – already an award-winning soul-rocking rhythm and blues group before releasing any music, are now ready to Set The Record with the release of their debut album — available April 1st, 2022 via Stony Plain Records.

The 11-track release also includes the new single & video, “Hard As I Can,” and you can watch it below.

With each member individually accomplished musicians, HOROJO Trio are drummer Jamie Holmes, singer/keyboardist Jeff Rogers, and guitarist JW Jones who has as a solo artist reached Top 10 on the Billboard Blues Charts, received multiple JUNO and Maple Blues Award nominations.

The result of a chance jam session that was so inspired it left both the audience and trio wanting more, they’ve since won ‘Best Band’ at the 2020 International Blues Challenge and performed at several top blues festivals and venues — as well as a recent nomination for ‘Music Group of the Year’ at the 2022 Ottawa Awards.

The Ottawa Citizen says Rogers’ voice “practically bowls you over with intensity as sweet, rich, and gooey as molasses in a heatwave,” while Nick Krewen (Globe & Mail, Grammy.com, Billboard) calls JUNO nominee and IBC winner of ‘Best Guitar’ JW Jones “a frequent resident of Billboard’s Top 10 Blues charts and a roots radio favourite.” Holmes has toured throughout North America and Europe, and recorded in Nashville with GRAMMY-winning producer Tom Hambridge.

Set The Record is available April 1st, 2022 via Stony Plain Records.

“Stay Crazy” (Radio Edit) is available now on all digital platforms.

Pop-Rocker Jano Alek Unleashes Powerful New Single, “Mountain Man”

0

No stranger to the music scene, and deeply inspired by strong, 90s alternative bands, Montreal-based pop-rocker Jano Alek channels passionate symbolism with emotional overtones in his newest single, “Mountain Man.”

Infused with unique Armenian-Syrian riffs and melodies, Jano Alek creates a solid foundation for the megalith that is “Mountain Man.” Funneling lyrics through the heartfelt struggle of Alek’s journey, Jano Alek crafts positive yet simplistic lines that soar through this electrifying pop-rock psalm.

Inspired by his journey through life, and the plight of surviving the exodus of his culture, the character that is intricately woven into “Mountain Man” reflects the singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s inspiration.

Born in Syria of Armenian descent, Jano Alek is a refugee artist who survived the war of Syria. Having started a band in Syria, he found himself playing across many popular venues across Aleppo, Damascus, and Homs — despite the general denouncement of rock in the country. Considering these accomplishments, his band was invited to tour in Europe, performing in theaters and festivals in France, Ukraine, and Lebanon.

It was after his family escaped the Armenian Genocide, finding a stable and welcoming life in Canada, that Jano Alek found himself starting from scratch once again. Taking his powerful relationship with alternative rock and garnishing it with his life wisdom, “my music reflects a lot of the feelings and struggles that refugees and immigrants face from war and being uprooted by force,” he shares.

The result is deeply layered pop-rock at it’s finest as Jano Alek rises above the conventional artists in today’s scene.

And The 2022 JUNO Award Nominees Are…

0

The nominees for the 51st Annual JUNO Awards were announced today by The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) during a virtual presentation streamed on CBCMusic.ca/junos. This year’s winners will be revealed during the closing weekend of JUNO Week, at The JUNO Opening Night Awards Presented by Ontario Creates on Saturday May 14th and The JUNO Awards Broadcast on Sunday, May 15th.

Rocker ROBB NASH’s Story Supporting Teens With Mental Illness Continues With New “This Is War” Song

0

Robb Nash continues to be one of the leading musicians working, speaking out, and singing about mental illness.

Named an ‘Extraordinary Canadian,’ the award-winning Canadian rocker and Governor General of Canada Meritorious Service Medal recipient’s story is one for the ages. But one peek up the sleeve at the hundreds of names tattooed on his arm — plus his newly released single, “This Is War” — reveals so much more.

“The names are from over 900 suicide notes I’ve received from kids,” Nash explains. “Some of them have my lyrics as tattoos, too; it’s a mutual relationship of ‘go forth and conquer.’”

Alongside The Robb Nash Project’s new song, “This Is War,” and the forthcoming album of the same name, the skin-inked gesture is part of Nash’s long-held commitment to combat mental illness — a high-stakes conflict he personally endured.

Found with no pulse following a head-on collision, Robb Nash was resuscitated on the side of the icy road near his home in Winnipeg, MB. His skull was rebuilt with Titanium, and his lengthy recovery sparked a severe depression. “Frankly, I did not want to be alive,” he shares. “I was an athlete; my identity was lost, and that brought me to a very dark place for two-and-a-half years.

“Men in this society can feel like talking about our feelings or struggles is weak, so I kept it inside. One day, I picked up the guitar and started my entire journey into music to tell my story.”

While that journey included, at one point, a record deal on the table, it ultimately morphed into a motivational-meets-music tour telling his story, confronting stigmas, demonstrating purpose, and welcoming those most vulnerable to feel okay asking for help.

Now in its 11th year and counting, The Robb Nash Project has appeared before more than 500,000 people — mostly students across the country, as well as at maximum security prisons, and keynote speeches for the Psychiatric Association of Canada. He also works closely with Kids Help Phone, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and school counsellors to ensure students get the follow-up they need.

While the new album’s inspiration might have come from students coast to coast, the sound on This Is War is all Nash’s. Co-produced by Anthony Anderson and Steve Smith, the 13-track heavy rock release reveals the familiar full-throated rallying cry of anger, hope, and concern previously displayed across EPs Tell Me Why (2019), Live on Arrival (2020), and more. This is War marks the first release under Nash’s new partnership with Warner Music Canada.

“It all has the same goal: save lives,” Nash says of both his public health leadership and music — including This Is War. “I’ve realized you can have all the resources available, but if people aren’t ready to reach out for help, it’s no use.

“In that, I was trying to figure out what my role was,” he shares of both the album, and his ongoing ethos that’s earned him a rightful spot in Peter Mansbridge’s book, Extraordinary Canadians, as well the Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada.

“I’m not a counsellor. I’m not a psychologist. I’m here to get the conversation started, and to let people know it’s okay to reach out for help.”

“This Is War” is available now. This Is War album is available June 10th, 2022.

Hip Hop Producer DJ VIEWS Taps Technical Wizardry of Arrested Development’s Speech & Dell-P with “Global Moves”

0

Australian producer DJ Views emerges from the lab harnessing the technical wizardry of rappers Speech and Dell-P as they deliver ‘90s inspired hip-hop track, “Global Moves.”

With the undeniable rap chemistry heard in sonic detail, DJ Views channels the hip-hop classics on the 1s and 2s. The beat is an ode to the iconic boom-bap style with heavy acoustic drums and hazy piano synths brimming with musical embellishments.

“Global Moves” is the latest example of DJ Views’ sophisticated and stylized approach to his craft. The artistic method of respecting the legends while having a firm grasp of what’s hot makes “Global Moves” a song with a timeless quality.

Standing on the shoulders of hip-hop giants, DJ Views knew he wanted to collaborate with artists he admired to create something meaningful. While working on his first project, “The Year After,” with UK producer Configa, he connected with the two artists who appear on “Global Moves.” He reached out to Dell-P, a rapper/songwriter out of Philadelphia who’s been steadily rising through the music industry after his award-winning debut album. The other incredible artist is Milwaukee hip-hop legend Speech (Arrested Development), whose rap cadence further contributes to the song’s timelessness.

Speech:

“Man I know that when my mouth opens
Another rap stereotype bout the south is broken
A total rebel on global levels – not bout the joking
Turn styles in the underground without a token”

Dell-P:

“Before the net I had a street buzz,
Been the trend before you knew what a tweet was,
I always give ‘em gems I don’t release duds,
The ones who make the most sense get the least love”

These efforts culminated in the recording of “Global Moves” during the lockdown in Sydney, Australia. DJ Views’ specific goal with his latest release is he “just wanted to send a positive message, show that real hip-hop is still alive and that tracks like this don’t need ego or curse words.”

DJ Views has been DJing and hosting parties for over 22 years. An executive chef by trade, he currently runs his independent outfit Gizmo Produktionz where he puts out music with some of the most exciting artists in the game. An emphasis on music production and beat-making began at the start of the pandemic, with numerous projects on the horizon.

The latest single produced by DJ Views featuring Speech and Dell-P, “Global Moves,” is available now on all music platforms.
