JUNO Award-Winning & Boogie Woogie Piano Hall of Famer Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne Releases “Rock And Rolling This House”

0

Canada’s multi-award-winning beacon of the blues Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne has prepared his Hall of Fame talents for takeoff with the announcement of his new album, Blues From Chicago to Paris: A Tribute to Memphis Slim and Willie Dixon — available March 4th via Stony Plain Records.

The 17-track album pays spirited homage to the piano-pounding and bass-slapping bygone legends from a legend himself — all while serving as a rousing and riveting guide to the lively post-war blues scenes of Chicago and Paris.

“Memphis Slim and Willie Dixon were a team, and their styles worked great together,” Wayne says of the artists behind the release’s inspiration. “Out of many other blues piano players I’ve listened to, I found a unique playfulness between these two men, unlike the many other great blues pianists.”

Focused on the period when the two giants of the genre teamed up to tour the globe in the late ‘50s-early ‘60s, Blues From Chicago to Paris presents a robust collection of favourite songs, as well as the innovative tunes that have inspired and influenced artists ever since.

As was the case with his other most recent release, 2020’s Go, Just Do It, Kenny Wayne took on the role of producer once again for Blues From Chicago to Paris; he also invited bassist Russell Jackson, a veteran of the B.B. King band during the 80s, and drummer Joey DiMarco into the studio for the sessions.

Now 77, Wayne’s six-decade musical career began with him soaking up the sounds of gospel music from his father, a preacher. From there, his genre journey traversed through jazz, Latin, R&B, and soul, with explorations in swing, bebop, dance, and the standards, for good measure.

The JUNO Award-winner with multiple Maple Blues Awards and keyboard awards from Living Blues Magazine to his credit, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne was also inducted into the Boogie Woogie Piano Hall of Fame in 2017.

Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne’s Blues From Chicago to Paris: A Tribute to Memphis Slim and Willie Dixon is available March 4th, 2022 via Stony Plain Records.

Canadian Blues Matriarch DALANNAH Celebrates Extraordinary Career With Silky-Smooth “Blues Keep Knockin’”

0

Multi-disciplined Canadian Blues matriarch Dalannah is celebrating an extraordinary career while serenading a song of sorrow with the release of her silky-smooth new single, “Blues Keep Knockin’.”

“Blues Keep Knockin’” is the new original song capping off 15 incredible years with Quest Records on her new album, In My Own Words. The record is an anthology of Dalannah’s greatest hits on Quest, with the new song serving as a bonus track that rounds off an outstanding collection.

Listeners will experience 75 minutes of emotionally resonant music in honour of Dalannah’s 75 years of life well-lived. Her latest song is a testament to the philosophy of love for life and the gift of melody.

“Blues Keep Knockin’” is a tune that reflects on the profound sadness felt when experiencing a significant loss. Dalannah touches on how trauma affects our soul, saying, “when loss becomes your companion, perhaps for life…That ol’ devil blues stays by my side.” When the opening bars graciously hit the ear, listeners are instantly transported to another place and time.

“I keep wonderin’ wonderin’ why,
When I think of you
I start to cry
There’s a hole in me
that can’t be filled
Blues keep knockin’ at my door.”

Sensational piano and clarinet playing lay the sonic foundation for Dalannah to break our hearts once again with a number that pulls at the heartstrings from beginning to end. Dalannah’s Heartbreaking lyrics are embedded with wisdom as beautifully produced harmonies complement one another throughout “Blues Keep Knockin’.”

On Dalannah’s 76th birthday, Quest Records also produced a live show accompanying the release of In My Own Words. It was recorded at The Firehall Arts Center in Vancouver, Canada, in October 2021 to celebrate the release of the 16-track album. The intimate venue allowed Dalannah to shine alongside accomplished and world-class artists, such as pianist Michael Creber (K.D Lang, Andrea Bocelli), renowned clarinet player Tom Keenlyside (Dizzy Gillespie, Aerosmith), and more; this level of talent could only be attracted to an artist of Dalannah’s caliber.

Dalannah started her career as a musician in 1965, with her first break coming from working the music circuit with one of the first all-girl bands in North America, The Feminine Touch. After only three months, The Feminine Touch would open for The Monkees and pave the way for North American tours lighting up stages for legendary Canadian band, The Guess Who. While on the road in Edmonton, Canada, with Coloured Rain, she famously encountered a newly formed Led Zeppelin. Dalannah, whose full name is Dalannah Gail Bowen, has been a lifelong advocate for human rights with a generosity that extends to countless charitable organizations. Just as many awards and acknowledgments pepper Dalaanah’s distinguished career from an honourary key to the city of Vancouver, Canada, and the declaration of December 11th as “Dalannah Gail Bowen Day” by the Mayor and Council of Vancouver, B.C.

Dalannah’s spellbinding track “Blues Keep Knockin’” from the latest album In My Own Words is available on all digital platforms and CD through Quest Records.

Joe Satriani Announces Release of New Studio Album, The Elephants of Mars

0

Marking the legendary guitarist’s 19th studio album in his 35+ year career in music, Joe Satriani is kicking off the new year with a brand-new single and newly announced release; “Sahara” is available now, and lands ahead of The Elephants of Mars — set to land April 8th, 2022.

With “Sahara”s video directed by ZZ Satriani, The Elephants of Mars album release also marks the debut of his new label partnership with earMUSIC — the international rock label of entertainment group Edel. Pre-orders are available now and include a special limited digi-pack cd release featuring seven double sided cards of original artwork by Satriani representing each song from the album. In addition, several colored vinyl options will be available as well to pre-order including an orange, pink (D2C only) and a Guitar Center Exclusive purple version.

When the pandemic forced time away from the road, Joe Satriani had an admirably productive workingman’s holiday that ultimately gave him and his touring band, all recording remotely in separate areas of the world during lockdown, the ability to deliver an album length journey that never dulls. The Elephants of Mars crackles with an exciting new energy, briskly traveling through stylistic roads that feel freshly updated, viewed through new eyes.

The guitarist challenged himself to create a “new standard” for instrumental guitar albums to be measured against — one which would work from “a new platform of his own design,” as he terms it. “I want to show people that an instrumental guitar album can contain far more creative and entertaining elements than I think people are using right now.”

From the gripping, sci-fi madness of “Through A Mother’s Day Darkly,” to the isolation felt in a decaying urban landscape, as depicted in first single “Sahara,” to the general endorphin levels that peak as the elephants finally roar in the title track, The Elephants of Mars will stampede across your mind, leaving a sonic imprint that doesn’t fade.

In 2020 with all time constraints removed, The Elephants of Mars truly represents the album that Satriani himself hoped he could deliver with his band. “We did everything. We tried the craziest ideas. And we entertained every notion we had about turning something backwards, upside down, seeing what could happen.”

With this new album Satriani joins the eclectic and exciting roster of earMUSIC. “Some years ago, we were lucky to be the label chosen by Joe Satriani for the very fortunate Chickenfoot project,” General Manager Max Vaccaro remarks. “It was impossible not to notice and admire the dedication, the work ethic, and the monstrous talent in the recording studio and on stage.

“We knew, though, that he had the same ‘home’ for his solo music for decades and that, for him, being signed to a record company meant loyalty and belonging. It is with great joy and sense of responsibility that now, some years later, we welcome Joe for his first solo work with earMUSIC. We thank him for having written and recorded very special music that will make a lot of fans happy, and we like to think this will be the first of many great albums to come.”

For over three decades, the guitar virtuoso has traveled the world, playing to sold-out crowds as both a headliner and as founder of the all-star “G3” guitar extravaganza. Satriani’s studio and live recordings have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide to date and of his many solo albums, two have gone Platinum and four others went Gold, with 15 GRAMMY Award nominations between them. His side project, Chickenfoot, featuring former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, former bassist Michael Anthony, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith saw their debut album certified Gold and their second studio album debuted at #9.

“Sahara” is available now. The Elephants of Mars is available April 8, 2022.

Biffy Clyro Set To Release ‘Cultural Sons Of Scotland’ Documentary

0

Biffy Clyro are one of Britain’s biggest rock bands, having remained contemporary throughout their 25-year career encompassing nine studio albums, major festival headline performances, sell-out world tours and more. The famously private Scottish band have never allowed anyone unrestricted access to document their creative process, until now.

Today, Amazon Music, Warner Records and Biffy Clyro announce Biffy Clyro: Cultural Sons of Scotland, an intimate documentary film showing the back-to-basics recording process they adopted to create their ninth studio album, The Myth of the Happily Ever After. With unprecedented access to the band, the new feature length film takes viewers on the journey with Simon, Ben and James as they return to their home in Ayrshire to create their latest, critically acclaimed album in the most unusual of studio environments. The film explores how the experience of recording an album in Scotland for the first time prompted the band to reflect on the importance of where they’re from, how this has influenced their career to date and reinforced their lifelong bond as friends and bandmates.

Watch Biffy Clyro: Cultural Sons of Scotland exclusively on Amazon Music Unlimited and Prime Video from Friday 25th February.

Recorded over three months in 2021, the band unexpectedly found themselves back where it all began: the west coast of Scotland. Faced with the feeling of uncertainty and despair which swept the globe at the height of the pandemic, Simon, James and Ben were grounded in more ways than one; forced off tour, they headed to their studio on a working Ayrshire farm to process what was happening the only way they knew how. The result was ninth album The Myth of the Happily Ever After, described by DIY as their “… most emotionally powerful record in years.” and Kerrang as “the sound of a world-class band making truly world-class music”.

Biffy Clyro: Cultural Sons of Scotland details the band’s ups and downs and their newfound approach to their creativity, before fittingly documenting their return to the stage for a sold-out outdoor show at Glasgow Green, their first in Scotland in almost two years.

Biffy Clyro’s frontman, Simon Neil said of the film; “In the same part of the world as I wrote my very first song is where we’re making this record, and there’s something really pure about that.”

Drummer, Ben Johnston, commented; “We don’t need all the bells and whistles for us to be fulfilled and happy, we just need the three of us to be making music together and have that vibe in a room – and that’s what keeps our hearts beating.”

Biffy’s bass player, James Johnston added; “Everyone should join a band… if you get a chance to go join a band with your brothers or your sisters, or people you consider to be a brother or a sister, that’s probably the best years you’ll ever have in your life.”

The film will premiere on Amazon Music and Prime Video on Friday 25th February. The film will also be available to watch in cinemas for one night only at four exclusive venues across the UK. The four Doc n’ Roll Films presents… Biffy Clyro: Cultural Sons of Scotland screenings will take place on 24th February at Dalston’s Rio Cinema, Cameo in Edinburgh, DCA in Dundee and Everyman in Glasgow. Tickets are available now here.

EarPeace Creates a Custom Hearing Protection Line in Collaboration with NPR

0

If you’re like me, you trust NPR for the bringing new talent to our lives, and also never forgetting the classic musicians who made our lives amazing with their music. So when they announced a new partnership with EarPeace to create a line of custom branded earplugs in order to reduce noise-induced hearing loss amongst artists and music fans and for discerning music fans and audiophiles who expect a premium music experience, I was in from the beginning.

For the collaboration, NPR x EarPeace will include the newly patented EarPeace PRO earplugs. EarPeace PRO features a contoured design that conforms to the natural shape of the ear canal. Combined with the finely tuned acoustic mesh filter that precisely replicates the sound signature, PRO delivers a true-to-life audio experience at a safe volume for discerning artists and music fans.

“I am a native Washingtonian and die-hard NPR fan. Chances are 50/50 whether I’m listening to music or the dulcet tones of NPR news keeping me informed. Working with NPR to keep the community’s hearing healthy is a profound honor,” said Jay Clark, Founder and CEO of EarPeace. “When I first launched EarPeace, one of the first people I approached to test drive the plugs was NPR Music’s Bob Boilen. If anyone knows live shows and the subtlety of music, it’s Bob.”

“EarPeace are among the best earplugs out there and have used them literally at over a thousand shows. My ears thank you,” stated Bob Boilen, Creator/Host of All Songs Considered and Tiny Desk Concerts.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in less than five minutes at a rock concert, NIHL has already begun. In the past year, roughly 25 million Americans have experienced tinnitus. As a result, hearing loss remains the third most common chronic physical condition in the United States and is twice as prevalent as diabetes or cancer.*

“Unless I’m mixing and recording at the Tiny Desk, I’m using hearing protection at concerts. EarPeace has been one of my go-to brands for years. Do your future self a favor and protect your ears,” said Josh Rogosin, Tiny Desk Audio Engineer and Technical Director for NPR Music, who, even prior to the collaboration with EarPeace, has been an advocate for safe listening with hearing protection.

Recently granted their second patent for the proprietary design of their earplugs following their utility patent, PRO resolves a common problem in traditional earplugs that contain rigid components by eliminating the mismatch between the shape of the ear and plug. The earplugs use less material to optimally expand in the ear canal, minimizing unwanted bunching and slit leaks. In addition to the higher level of comfort, the oval, offset wave shape of their patented design permits the filters to perform at peak capacity.

On a mission to save the world’s hearing and prevent NIHL, EarPeace hasn’t stopped at revolutionizing hearing protection options – they continue to lead the charge in how people value their hearing health as well as efforts to reduce the epidemic of hearing loss and tinnitus. EarPeace is trusted by NPR, Metallica, RedBull, Lollapalooza, and more.

Each package consists of 3 standard and 3 small size earplugs, 20dB protection filters, and an aviation-grade aluminum carrying case featuring the Tiny Desk Concerts and NPR Music logos.

EarPeace revolutionized hearing protection in 2008 with a discreet, comfortable, high-fidelity earplug built not only for musicians, but for all the fans at the event. This same technology was customized for motorsports, travel, anyone that needs a safety product, and for everyone that needs a good night’s sleep. The innovation by EarPeace continues today with new patents, products, technologies, and accessories designed to “enhance your experience.” Festivals, motorcycle rallies, and events all over the world depend on EarPeace to keep their stars and fans safe, comfortable, and ready for the next event. EarPeace’s promise is simple – you will hear and feel better when you wear EarPeace. For more information, visit https://www.earpeace.com.
