Dolly Parton and Jeni’s Team Up Again For Strawberry Pretzel Pie

0

To celebrate Dolly Parton’s upcoming new novel (co-authored with James Patterson) and companion album — both titled Run, Rose, Run — Jeni’s has partnered again on something special for ice cream and music lovers alike: the return of Strawberry Pretzel Pie and a Jeni’s exclusive digital version of the album with a bonus track you can’t get anywhere else.

Pre-order the flavor and album now for a limited time, only at jenis.com.

A throwback to the triple decker pie from the potlucks of our youths. Layers of salty pretzel streusel, subtly sweet and effortlessly tangy cream cheese ice cream, and lipstick red strawberry sauce. This partnership is benefitting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a book gifting program that gives free books to children under five.

The companion album to Dolly’s upcoming novel, Run, Rose, Run, featuring 12 original songs inspired by the book she co-authored with James Patterson, plus the Jeni’s exclusive bonus track “Rose of my Heart.”

Album pre-orders will be delivered digitally on March 4, and fulfilled separately from ice cream.

Mackenzie Dayle Says “I’m Good, Thanks” in Sizzling New Single

0

Canada’s newest rising pop star Mackenzie Dayle continues to set the scene ablaze, lighting up screens and streams with her fiery new single, “I’m Good, Thanks.”

The Edmonton, Alberta-based artist’s new track is an ultra sexy love-letter to one’s self: a super-charged reminder that the most important relationship you’ll ever have is the one you have with yourself.

“I got together with a group of people who have all experienced some level of ‘single person ridicule’ in their lives,” Dayle explains of the inspiration behind the track. “From that, we created a super sassy, salty song making fun of all the attempts people make to ‘fix’ someone who is single — while also empowering listeners to stay single as long as it feels good for them.

“Honestly, it could have been an hour long,” she continues. “After pooling all of our experiences from our times being single, and hearing the experiences of the people around us, we had enough ammo to fill 20 songs!”

The song is flirty, funny, poignant, and necessary, and the music video does as much visually as it does sending home a message. Between the dance numbers, Dayle’s exceptional singing, and the playful lyrics — not to mention the clip of the highly decorated and outrageously talented artist being yeeted into a pool fully clothed in the video — all make for a homerun in the game of finding yourself at the centre of your most important relationship: you.

“Being single can be so important,” Dayle muses about the song, and life. “It helps you take the time to work on the most important and epic relationship you’ll ever have – the one with yourself.

“I spent quite a few lengthy periods of being single,” she continues. “After every heartbreak, I typically like to take at least a couple months, if not more, to reflect on what happened in that past relationship: the red flags I overlooked, the behaviour I enabled, the way I personally could have done better, and further figuring out what I’m looking for in the person I want to end up with.

“Every portion of time I spend single helps me know myself more, and makes what I’m looking for even more clear.”

Surrounding the track’s reflective and insightful message is an upbeat, dance bop; a sure-fire banger in the vein of a modern Katy Perry, a sassy Ava Max. Beyond that, it gets its point across loud and clear — without being sanctimonious, or looking further down the pedestal.

“The song is not meant to put single and ‘taken’ people against each other either,” Dayle reassures. “It’s specifically saying you should take all the time you need to be single, so when or if you find someone great enough to settle down with, you’ll be going into it as your best, most confident, and most healthy self.”

A naturally gifted performer, Mackenzie Dayle has become a tour de force in the music industry, having snagged the attention of Wendy Starland (responsible for discovering Lady Gaga), honed her vocal ability with high vocal coach, Carole-Lynn Quinn, and continuing to train in hip hop at KORE Dance Studios under the tutelage of world-renowned choreographer, Carlo Atienza (So You Think You Can Dance).

Dayle dropped her first CD, Give Me Some Action, in 2012 — with singles featured on a variety of North American radio stations. Last year, she released her debut album, Single, worldwide, and followed up the track “Cut You Out” with an accompanying music video, racking up more than 450,000 views.

“I’m Good, Thanks” is available now.

The Co-Conspirators Deliver a Masterful Mix of Folk Fact & Fiction with The Unreliable Narrators

0

In keeping with how the best and most enduring folk songs oblige audiences to take a closer look at history, society, and ourselves, Canadian duo The Co-Conspirators deliver their poignant and riveting new album, The Unreliable Narrators, and its pull-no-punches first single, “The Lonesome Death of Elijah McClain.”

Training a modern-day lens on folk’s deeply rooted tradition of storytelling through song, the Quebec-based band’s sophomore album offers 12 ‘chapters’ of compelling stories — whether fictional or real — that orbit around hardscrabble characters, troubled lives, social injustices, personal struggle, and more.

With 11 of the 12 songs on The Unreliable Narrators written by the duo’s multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and principal songwriter, Will Richards, they are all brought to full fruition with vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Katherine Simons’ voice intertwining with Richards’ — like a pilot and copilot deftly navigating over a varied terrain.

This notion is exemplified throughout the sonic journey taken on the new album as it follows two key characters who are attracted (“Walk Me Home Tonight”), travel together (“Howlin’ at the Moon”, “The Only Road Through Town”), witness and experience hardships and injustices (“Bella Ciao”, “Young Billy”, “Do You See Me?”), come apart and together (“Friends of Mine”, “Happier”), and eventually become a memory (“History Lesson Part III”).

How much of their stories are ‘unreliable’? Probably none in the characters’ own minds, but that’s what the through-line is for The Co-Conspirators’ new project.

“An unreliable narrator is one who exaggerates, or is too naïve or insane to tell the truth,” Richards explains. “We are, at times, the unreliable narrators to our own lives — our own stories.”

The album’s fictional two-character narrative pauses for two staggering observances of real, untimely deaths; “You Shone So Bright” reflects on the unexpected death of the duo’s dear friend’s daughter.

‘The saddest thing that I will hear is the silence where your voice should be.’

“The song tries to imagine the state of being where a part of life that brought so much love and joy and brightness is no longer there,” Richards reveals. “And just where does one go from there? How much does that light remain?”

The other real-life observance on the album is ripped straight from the headlines; through the retelling of the 2019 tragic death of a young black man at the hands of police and paramedics in Colorado, “The Lonesome Death of Elijah McClain” strikes at the heart of our most sharply drawn social divides along racial lines. McClain was walking home with an iced-tea for his brother, and had committed no crime. Spotted and tackled by police, he was put in a carotid hold cutting off his oxygen, and was injected with ketamine. McClain suffered a heart attack and later died in hospital. An autopsy documented extensive bruising and revealed the excessive level of brutality he suffered during his arrest.

‘Somebody’s son, one hundred thirty pounds. Three policemen crushed him to the ground.’

“The tragedy of it is unbearable,” Richards notes. “It took over two years of relentless social pressure to bring charges against the officers — and his is just one of countless stories of police violence against visible minorities.”

Originally from contrasting rock and classical music backgrounds, Richards and Simons came together in 2014 and found folk common ground. They discovered their diverse musical backgrounds combined to create something unique.

In 2018, they quit their day jobs and hit the road full time — playing hundreds of shows across Canada, and recording and releasing their debut album, Shadowing the Organ Tuner, in 2019.

To record this, their second album, Richards and Simons took a decidedly DIY and pandemic-necessitated approach, recording in “bits and pieces…here, there and wherever we could,” they share.

“The Unreliable Narrators was recorded over a period of 18 months in various apartments, motels, garages, and barns, with walls and windows covered with duvets, sheets, and foam,” Richards recalls. “Time was spent waiting for buses to pass by, for neighbours to stop shouting; there was a ton of cursing when we realized the perfect take we had just done had picked up truck engine brakes, dogs barking, or children shrieking like dolphins.

“Sometimes you just have to leave things in (listen carefully),” he hints.

That kind of jump-in-and-just do-it spirit goes on the road with The Co-Conspirators as the hard-working duo has over 20 dates already on the books for early 2022 in support of the new album. Audiences will certainly attest that there is nothing unreliable about The Co-Conspirators’ abilities to bring out the best in each other as singer-songwriters, musicians and entertainers. Their musical mission is perhaps best put in the following excerpt from the album forward written by David Boyle: ‘The Co-Conspirators travel. They sing and share a message or two, and invite you to empathize, hear some hard truths, make the personal universal – and vice versa.’

“The Lonesome Death of Elijah McClain” and The Unreliable Narrators are available now.

PinkPantheress makes her music in the dead of night in her university halls, combining UK garage, two-step, pop and alt-rock into a sample-heavy sound that has been described as “new nostalgic”. With over 1 million followers and 7.5 million likes on TikTok, it was her breakout hit Just For Me that took her from social media sensation to Radio 1’s A List over the summer. Sammy Hagar Named Tourism Ambassador to Los Cabos, Mexico

0

Today, legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame musician and longtime Los Cabos resident and business owner, Sammy Hagar, was awarded the first accreditation of Honorary Ambassador of Los CabosMexico. Hagar was honored with the municipality’s first Medal of Honor during a ceremony presided over by Secretary of Tourism, Economics and Sustainability in Baja California Sur Rosa Maribel Collins Sánchez, President of Los Cabos Óscar Leggs Castro, and Director of Tourism Donna Jeffries, at Plaza Mijares in San Jose del Cabo.

Sammy Hagar has long been the unofficial ambassador to Los Cabos and through this official designation, we look forward to strengthening our tourism brand and economic growth through his global appeal,” said Leggs Castro.

Sammy Hagar’s pioneering vision to create and invest in Mexican businesses, including Cabo Wabo Cantina, Cabo Wabo Tequila and Santo Tequila, have created countless local jobs and have enhanced Los Cabos’ visibility as a travel destination,” added Jeffries. “His unwavering dedication through good times as well as through immense challenges like hurricanes and the pandemic has been extraordinary.”

Hagar fell in love with a sleepy Mexican fishing village at the tip of Baja in the early ’80s. With only one real hotel, no phones, no television, and only dirt roads, it would have taken more than a crystal ball to foresee Cabo San Lucas’ future as a top vacation destination and the center of the celebrity tequila boom that Hagar and his Cabo Wabo brand would usher in. Since launching his flagship Cabo Wabo Cantina in in 1990, Hagar has turned a lifelong passion for great food, music and spirits into a thriving lifestyle brand.

“Being honored for anything in Los Cabos is the same as being honored in my hometown,” said Hagar. “I will treasure this award will continue to do my part in bringing this, one of the most beautiful places in the world, to the rest of the world as your new ambassador of tourism.”

Hagar’s annual Birthday Bash at Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas is one of the year’s most legendary jam-sessions. His Cantina brand now includes successful outposts in Las Vegas and Hollywood.
