CCS Rights Management, a leading global independent rights administration and creative services company, has launched Daytripper Music Publishing (Daytripper), a new division and stand-alone brand dedicated to creative development of established and up-and-coming artists and songwriters, while enhancing, capitalizing, and promoting their works.
CCS will provide its best-in-class global administration, synchronization, and licensing services for Daytripper Music Publishing, which is headquartered in Toronto.
“Since we founded the company 10 years ago, CCS has established itself as a leader in administrative practices and services. As we continue expanding into the U.S. and internationally, we’re excited to launch Daytripper Music Publishing which will focus on the front-facing part of music publishing, identifying and developing great talent at all levels, providing personalized and curated global creative opportunities, and helping each artist and writer build their brand and career,” said Jodie Ferneyhough, Founder and President of CCS Rights Management.

Daytripper Music Publishing’s first new signing is award-winning Canadian songwriter, producer, composer, and recording artist Hill Kourkoutis, who produced and mixed Leela Gilday’s 2X JUNO nominated album, North Start Calling, as well as produced and mixed albums and singles for Jules (“Before You Picked Her” #1 CBC, Top 40 Alternative Radio), POESY, Digging Roots, Cassie Dasilva, SATE, Madison Violet, Graph, Eh440, The Cliks, Pavlo, and Martha and the Muffins, among others. As a composer, she co-wrote and produced (with artist Serena Ryder) the theme and end title for Universal Kids’ animated series Remy and Boo, as well as produced and co-wrote the theme song of Disney’s Dino Ranch, a top U.S. children’s series. Kourkoutis’ music has also been used in major campaigns for Cadillac and Virgin Mobile, and in films and TV series such as Private Eyes, The Adventures of Napkin Man!, and Kim’s Convenience.
Kourkoutis joins a stellar roster of artists and songwriters which have moved from CCS to be a part of the exclusive Daytripper Music Publishing family. These include: Swedish rock band Tribe Friday, whichreceived a P3Gull Awards nomination for 2020 Group of the Year; electro pop duo Featurette; POESY, the Season 1 winner of Canadian series The Launch; multi-Juno award-nominated recording artist Nuela Charles; and artists CARYS, Yukon Blonde, Laurent Bourque, and Mikhail Laxton.
For the CCS team, Daytripper Music Publishing is the manifestation of a progressive, next-gen company anchored in old-school publishing fundamentals, that is the antithesis of the acquisition-focused companies in the current environment. For Ferneyhough, Daytripper Music Publishing is also very personal.
“It was tough to come up with a name that could truly express the right feeling and sentiment. When I originally started CCS 10 years ago, the three-letter name represented my children’s initials. As we were building this new division, I wanted something that spoke to family – both my personal family, as well as the family of songwriters, artists, and all of us who work on their behalf. This Spring my sister passed away after a hard-fought battle with ALS. So, to honour her memory I named it ‘Daytripper,’ it was the No.1 song the day she was born.”

The Go-Go’s have sold over 7 million records worldwide becoming a global phenomenon and blazed brand-new trails in music – for women in particular.
One of the biggest free concerts in history, The Rolling Stones’ legendary performance at the famed Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro February 8, 2006 was a historic event… a critical moment in Rock ‘n’ Roll history.
Now, The Rolling Stones and Mercury Studios will proudly release for the first time this complete concert film remixed, re-edited, and remastered. The Rolling Stones — A Bigger Bang: Live On Copacabana Beach will be available on July 9, 2021 on multiple formats, including DVD, SD Blu-ray, DVD+2CD, SD Blu-ray+2CD, 2DVD+2CD Deluxe, 2SD Blu-ray+2CD Deluxe, 180 gram 3LP, limited edition 3LP pressed on 180 gram blue, yellow, and green vinyl & digital.
Additionally, Mercury Studios will release an early taste of this set with a 5-song digital EP – out May 28. This will include “Sympathy For The Devil”, “Wild Horses”, “You Got Me Rocking”, “Happy”, and “Rough Justice”. All the songs are from the Copacabana Beach show, with the exception of “Rough Justice”, which is from the 2005 Salt Lake City concert video available in the Deluxe Edition.
Finally, Mercury Studios will present The Rolling Stones: Rain Fall Down (Live on Copacabana Beach) / Rough Justice (Live In Salt Lake City) — a limited edition 10” picture disc be released as part of the first Record Store Day Drops on June 12.
Right from the film’s opening moments, when The Rolling Stones emerge on their own purpose built bridge leading from the Copacabana Palace Hotel, there’s an electric energy that courses through the air, ricocheting between the band and the 1.5 million people in attendance. Aerial shots convey the sprawling enormity of the crowd, watching not only from the beach, but from boats moored at the water’s edge. As Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts fire on all pistons from one track to the next, the crowd continues to meet their energy in furious fervor, waving Brazilian and British flags while rocking out in the tropical evening sunset. It was truly a highlight of this tour, which supported the band’s 2005 album Bigger Bang.
Four songs that were not in the original 2007 DVD release The Biggest Bang are featured for the first time on A Bigger Bang: “Tumbling Dice”, “Oh No, Not You Again”, “This Place Is Empty”, and “Sympathy For The Devil”. This concert brilliantly showcases this impactful two-hour set, which runs the gamut of The Rolling Stones’ career: “It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It)”, “Brown Sugar”, “Start Me Up”, and “Satisfaction” and “Wild Horses” swerve between then-new tracks “Rain Fall Down”, “This Place Is Empty”, and “Rough Justice” from Bigger Bang. The setlist also boasts a cover of Ray Charles’ “Night Time Is The Right Time”.
“Not that we’re unused to playing some of the biggest shows in the world, but I must say Rio did take the cake,” said Keith Richards.
“‘It was amazing,” states Mick Jagger. “It was a really good audience. They know how to enjoy themselves on those occasions.”
The Deluxe 2DVD+2CD & 2SD BD+2CD editions are packaged in a 12 X 12 40-page book, with the Copacabana concert on DVD or SD Blu-ray and 2CD, along with an exclusive bonus DVD or SD Blu-ray including a November 2005 concert in Salt Lake City, UT, also from the Bigger Bang tour.

The Zappa Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, the companion album to the highly acclaimed Alex Winter-directed documentary Zappa about the prolific genius composer, free speech activist, cultural ambassador to Czechoslovakia and legendary musician, Frank Zappa, is now available as a 5LP deluxe vinyl box set via Zappa Records/UMe/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. The collection follows the surprise digital release of the soundtrack released in conjunction with the film on Franksgiving, November 27th, 2020 and the 3CD version released in February. The box set is available on 180-gram black vinyl as well as on limited edition 180-gram smoke vinyl, exclusively via Zappa.com, uDiscover and Sound of Vinyl online stores. An abbreviated 2LP edition on 180-gram clear vinyl is also available.
With unfettered access to the Zappa Vault and all its archival footage, “Zappa,” directed by Alex Winter and distributed by Magnolia Pictures, explores the private life behind the mammoth musical career that never shied away from the political turbulence of its time. Winter’s assembly features appearances by Zappa’s widow Gail Zappa and several of his musical collaborators including Mike Keneally, Ian Underwood, Steve Vai, Pamela Des Barres, Bunk Gardner, David Harrington, Scott Thunes, Ruth Underwood, Ray White and others. Announced on Kickstarter in 2016, the film became the highest-funded documentary in the crowdfunding site’s history.
Certified “Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with 96% on the Tomatometer, the film has received overwhelmingly positive reviews with the Wall Street Journal hailing it as “Compelling. Epic. Accomplishes the acrobatic act of doing justice to a figure like Frank Zappa,” and Variety declaring, “ZAPPA creates an emotional through line that lends a rare clarity to the life and work of this most idiosyncratic of all rock stars,” adding, “A multimedia immersion. Showcasing Zappa’s unique sonic brilliance and nearly every song heard in the film, the 68-track soundtrack features 12 previously unreleased recordings from The Vault, which include performances from the Whisky A Go-Go in 1968, the Fillmore West in ‘70 and Zappa’s famed performance of “Dancin’ Fool” on “Saturday Night Live” in ’78, and spans Zappa’s expansive catalog with 25 additional songs from across his peerless and influential career, from his seminal 1966 debut double album with the Mothers of Invention, Freak Out!, to the final release of his lifetime, 1993’s The Yellow Shark, a live orchestral album performed by the Ensemble Modern in Europe in 1992.
The soundtrack includes songs from Zappa’s record labels Straight and Bizarre Records such as “No Longer Umpire” from Alice Cooper’s debut album, Pretties For You, originally released on Straight in 1969; “The Captain’s Fat Theresa Shoes” by GTO’s, from the all-girl group’s one and only album, Permanent Damage, produced by Zappa. It also includes two classical compositions by Zappa’s lifetime inspirations Edgard Varese and Igor Stravinsky as well as several interview clips. The soundtrack is rounded out with 26 original score cues newly composed by John Frizzell for the documentary.
Taken together “Zappa” and the companion soundtrack offer a riveting, revealing and emotional portrait of Frank Zappa, a trailblazer, iconoclast, virtuosic musician and fearless artist who forever changed music and culture with his unconventional and uncompromising vision. From his early psychedelic rock beginnings to his avant-garde experimentation, jazz-rock explorations, symphonic suites and satirical send-ups to his conceptual, compositional and technological innovations, Zappa shattered the norms every step of the way and his influence and ethos continues to reverberate as strongly today as ever.

Comedy Dynamics has partnered with the Jonathan Winters estate and Dan Pasternack’s Obsessive Comedy Disorder to release a Record Store Day exclusive 3xLP box set titled Jonathan Winters: Unearthed on June 12, 2021.
This first posthumous release since his passing in 2013 is entirely built from Winters’ personal stash of tapes and acetates and is focused on a specific, narrow window of time from 1958 to 1960. It includes Winters’ first two classic albums as they’ve never been heard before as well as a third LP of unreleased demo recordings and other rare material. The contents of the audio collection are contextualized by an essay from Dan Pasternack which draws heavily upon Winters’ personal writings. The package is further enhanced by many photos, clippings and other personal ephemera from Winters’ private scrapbooks and liner notes especially composed for the package from Billy Crystal, Jimmy Kimmel, Carol Burnett, and Patton Oswalt.
Amongst the material included from the iconic, Grammy Award winning artist are his first LP for Verve,The Wonderful World of Jonathan Winters and his full uncut performance at the famed Hollywood nightclub the Crescendo in 1960, which was edited to become his second Verve LP, Down To Earth, both from Winters’ own master tapes. In addition, the collection features Winters’ 1958 novelty record for Coral Records Nee Nee Na Na Na Na Nu Nu; five recently discovered demo tracks Winters recorded for Verve and two never before released “audition” episodes of a proposed comedy radio series entitled Winters Wonderland. This will be an exceptional collectible for Jonathan Winters fans worldwide and is the only comedy Record Store Day release of the year.
Jonathan Winters was a comedian, TV show host, actor, author and acclaimed painter who recorded many classic comedy albums for Verve Records. He was nominated for 11 Grammy Awards, eight of which were for Best Comedy Album. Winters was the second recipient of the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 1999. During his illustrious career that spanned over six decades, Jonathan appeared in films such as It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, The Loved One and The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming and on hundreds of TV shows including The Tonight Show (first with Steve Allen, then with Jack Paar and later with Johnny Carson), The Twilight Zone, Mork & Mindy and Davis Rules, for which he won an Emmy Award. He also voiced Papa Smurf in The Smurfs feature films in 2011 and 2013. (The latter Smurfs movie was dedicated to his memory as it was released shortly after his death.)
In recent years, Comedy Dynamics has released box sets and exclusive vinyls for legends in the comedy world including Eddie Izzard, Bill Hicks, Lenny Bruce and Sam Kinison. The digital albums will eventually be available on Sirius XM, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and more.
“I am overjoyed that my dad’s work will be discovered and re-discovered through this collection. And that it is being presented in a way to also tell his story. While aspects of his life were difficult, I am so proud that he was able to overcome adversity, leaving behind such a rich legacy of laughter,” said Lucinda Winters.
“It was one of the great privileges of my life to have Jonathan as my friend. And it is one of the great honors of my career to be able to take part in preserving the memory of his genius. I felt a tremendous responsibility in getting everything right. Both in relation to his comedy but also in sharing his brave battles during a time when there was much less public awareness or understanding about mental illness,” said Dan Pasternack.

Legendary jazz-rock icon – STEELY DAN – has set the “Absolutely Normal Tour ’21,” which kicks off with a four-night stand in Miami, Florida from Tuesday, October 5th, through Saturday, October 9. The U.S. tour will hit 15 cities over 28 concerts before wrapping at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston. Tickets for the tour, which is promoted by Live Nation, will go on sale starting Friday, July 30th, at 10 AM Local through Ticketmaster. A full listing of tour dates can be found below.

STEELY DAN helped define the soundtrack of the ’70s with hits such as “Reeling in the Years”, “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number,” “Peg,” “Deacon Blues,” “Babylon Sisters,” and “Hey Nineteen,” culled from their seven platinum albums issued between 1972 and 1980 (including 1977’s groundbreaking Aja). Both their sound and their notoriety survived the ’80s despite Becker and Fagen’s only occasional surfacing for a solo project. They reunited as Steely Dan in the early ’90s, touring successfully throughout the decade and releasing a live album in 1995 (Alive In America). In 2000 they released their multi-GRAMMY® winner, Two Against Nature, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

The SOCAN Foundation today announced it is accepting applications for its Travel Assistance Grant, after the widely-used program was put on hold in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions.
Founded in 1992, the SOCAN Foundation is dedicated to fostering musical creativity and promoting a better understanding of the role of music creators in today’s society. The organization is a part of the SOCAN Group of organizations and guided by a Board of Directors, which consists of composers, songwriters and music publishers, and reflects concert music and popular music genres, as well as the geographic and linguistic regions of Canada.
The travel assistance program offers eligible music creators and publishers up to $1,000 for travel per calendar year to attend significant career-defining events in Canada and abroad, such as, but not limited to: award presentations, performances, residences, showcases, and workshops.
“As the music industry recovers from the pandemic, the travel grant will allow music creators and publishers to access financial support to engage in significant activities that require travel in the future,” said Charlie Wall-Andrews, Executive Director of SOCAN Foundation. “While this initiative supports music creators, we recognize the importance of responsible travel, and we have implemented processes to ensure grant recipients are adhering to travel safety protocols.”
To be eligible, all applicants must be a member of SOCAN and provide a letter of confirmation or invitation to attend the event or activity. Additionally, each applicant must submit a comprehensive project plan demonstrating compliance with travel safety regulations set by the government of Canada and international markets.
The deadline for applications is ongoing.
