Nancy Wilson of Heart Shows How to Play THAT Intro To ā€˜Crazy On You’

Crazy on You by Heart reached the top 25 in Canada and the top 35 in the US, and it has an extremely difficult intro on the acoustic guitar, but Nancy Wilson of the group performs it with ease.

Soul-Rockers HOROJO Trio Featuring JW-Jones ‘Set The Record’ with Debut Album Release on Stony Plain Records

0

HOROJO Trio (pronunciation: HO-RO-JO, as in HO – Think Santa Claus; RO – “Row Your Boat”; and JO – “Joe”) – already an award-winning soul-rocking rhythm and blues group before releasing any music, are now ready to Set The Record with the release of their debut album — available April 1st, 2022 via Stony Plain Records.

The 11-track release also includes the new single & video, ā€œHard As I Can,ā€ and you can watch it below.

With each member individually accomplished musicians, HOROJO Trio are drummer Jamie Holmes, singer/keyboardist Jeff Rogers, and guitarist JW Jones who has as a solo artist reached Top 10 on the Billboard Blues Charts, received multiple JUNO and Maple Blues Award nominations.

The result of a chance jam session that was so inspired it left both the audience and trio wanting more, they’ve since won ā€˜Best Band’ at the 2020 International Blues Challenge and performed at several top blues festivals and venues — as well as a recent nomination for ā€˜Music Group of the Year’ at the 2022 Ottawa Awards.

The Ottawa Citizen says Rogers’ voice ā€œpractically bowls you over with intensity as sweet, rich, and gooey as molasses in a heatwave,ā€ while Nick Krewen (Globe & Mail, Grammy.com, Billboard) calls JUNO nominee and IBC winner of ā€˜Best Guitar’ JW Jones ā€œa frequent resident of Billboard’s Top 10 Blues charts and a roots radio favourite.ā€ Holmes has toured throughout North America and Europe, and recorded in Nashville with GRAMMY-winning producer Tom Hambridge.

Set The Record is available April 1st, 2022 via Stony Plain Records.

ā€œStay Crazyā€ (Radio Edit) is available now on all digital platforms.

Pop-Rocker Jano Alek Unleashes Powerful New Single, ā€œMountain Manā€

0

No stranger to the music scene, and deeply inspired by strong, 90s alternative bands, Montreal-based pop-rocker Jano Alek channels passionate symbolism with emotional overtones in his newest single, ā€œMountain Man.ā€

Infused with unique Armenian-Syrian riffs and melodies, Jano Alek creates a solid foundation for the megalith that is ā€œMountain Man.ā€ Funneling lyrics through the heartfelt struggle of Alek’s journey, Jano Alek crafts positive yet simplistic lines that soar through this electrifying pop-rock psalm.

Inspired by his journey through life, and the plight of surviving the exodus of his culture, the character that is intricately woven into ā€œMountain Manā€ reflects the singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s inspiration.

Born in Syria of Armenian descent, Jano Alek is a refugee artist who survived the war of Syria. Having started a band in Syria, he found himself playing across many popular venues across Aleppo, Damascus, and Homs — despite the general denouncement of rock in the country. Considering these accomplishments, his band was invited to tour in Europe, performing in theaters and festivals in France, Ukraine, and Lebanon.

It was after his family escaped the Armenian Genocide, finding a stable and welcoming life in Canada, that Jano Alek found himself starting from scratch once again. Taking his powerful relationship with alternative rock and garnishing it with his life wisdom, ā€œmy music reflects a lot of the feelings and struggles that refugees and immigrants face from war and being uprooted by force,ā€ he shares.

The result is deeply layered pop-rock at it’s finest as Jano Alek rises above the conventional artists in today’s scene.

Sonic Reducers: The 2022 JUNO Award Nominees Are Out

0

Punch play to watch us run through this year’s top Juno nominees, talk about who got snubbed, discuss the increasing number of artists whose fame springs primarily from social media, and celebrate the fact that two albums up for awards this year have the F-word in their title. Sonic Reducers. One topic. Two music nerds. Five minutes. Everything you need to know.

And The 2022 JUNO Award Nominees Are…

0

The nominees for the 51st Annual JUNO Awards were announced today by The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) during a virtual presentation streamed on CBCMusic.ca/junos. This year’s winners will be revealed during the closing weekend of JUNO Week, at The JUNO Opening Night Awards Presented by Ontario Creates on Saturday May 14th and The JUNO Awards Broadcast on Sunday, May 15th.

Canada’s biggest night in music, hosted by international sensation Simu Liu will broadcast and stream live across the country from Budweiser Stage in Toronto at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music, CBC Listen, and globally at CBCMusic.ca/junos and CBC Music’s Facebook, YouTube and Twitter pages.

Montreal-born singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin is this year’s top contender, leading with a total of six nominations including: TikTok JUNO Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year*, Artist of the Year*, Pop Album of the Year and Music Video of the Year. Rocker ROBB NASH’s Story Supporting Teens With Mental Illness Continues With New “This Is War” Song

0

Robb Nash continues to be one of the leading musicians working, speaking out, and singing about mental illness.

Named an ā€˜Extraordinary Canadian,’ the award-winning Canadian rocker and Governor General of Canada Meritorious Service Medal recipient’s story is one for the ages. But one peek up the sleeve at the hundreds of names tattooed on his arm — plus his newly released single, ā€œThis Is Warā€ — reveals so much more.

ā€œThe names are from over 900 suicide notes I’ve received from kids,ā€ Nash explains. ā€œSome of them have my lyrics as tattoos, too; it’s a mutual relationship of ā€˜go forth and conquer.ā€™ā€

Alongside The Robb Nash Project’s new song, ā€œThis Is War,ā€ and the forthcoming album of the same name, the skin-inked gesture is part of Nash’s long-held commitment to combat mental illness — a high-stakes conflict he personally endured.

Found with no pulse following a head-on collision, Robb Nash was resuscitated on the side of the icy road near his home in Winnipeg, MB. His skull was rebuilt with Titanium, and his lengthy recovery sparked a severe depression. ā€œFrankly, I did not want to be alive,ā€ he shares. ā€œI was an athlete; my identity was lost, and that brought me to a very dark place for two-and-a-half years.

ā€œMen in this society can feel like talking about our feelings or struggles is weak, so I kept it inside. One day, I picked up the guitar and started my entire journey into music to tell my story.ā€

While that journey included, at one point, a record deal on the table, it ultimately morphed into a motivational-meets-music tour telling his story, confronting stigmas, demonstrating purpose, and welcoming those most vulnerable to feel okay asking for help.

Now in its 11th year and counting, The Robb Nash Project has appeared before more than 500,000 people — mostly students across the country, as well as at maximum security prisons, and keynote speeches for the Psychiatric Association of Canada. He also works closely with Kids Help Phone, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and school counsellors to ensure students get the follow-up they need.

While the new album’s inspiration might have come from students coast to coast, the sound on This Is War is all Nash’s. Co-produced by Anthony Anderson and Steve Smith, the 13-track heavy rock release reveals the familiar full-throated rallying cry of anger, hope, and concern previously displayed across EPs Tell Me Why (2019), Live on Arrival (2020), and more. This is War marks the first release under Nash’s new partnership with Warner Music Canada.

ā€œIt all has the same goal: save lives,ā€ Nash says of both his public health leadership and music — including This Is War. ā€œI’ve realized you can have all the resources available, but if people aren’t ready to reach out for help, it’s no use.

ā€œIn that, I was trying to figure out what my role was,ā€ he shares of both the album, and his ongoing ethos that’s earned him a rightful spot in Peter Mansbridge’s book, Extraordinary Canadians, as well the Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada.

ā€œI’m not a counsellor. I’m not a psychologist. I’m here to get the conversation started, and to let people know it’s okay to reach out for help.ā€

ā€œThis Is Warā€ is available now. This Is War album is available June 10th, 2022.

Hip Hop Producer DJ VIEWS Taps Technical Wizardry of Arrested Development’s Speech & Dell-P with ā€œGlobal Movesā€

0

Australian producer DJ Views emerges from the lab harnessing the technical wizardry of rappers Speech and Dell-P as they deliver ā€˜90s inspired hip-hop track, ā€œGlobal Moves.ā€

With the undeniable rap chemistry heard in sonic detail, DJ Views channels the hip-hop classics on the 1s and 2s. The beat is an ode to the iconic boom-bap style with heavy acoustic drums and hazy piano synths brimming with musical embellishments.

ā€œGlobal Movesā€ is the latest example of DJ Views’ sophisticated and stylized approach to his craft. The artistic method of respecting the legends while having a firm grasp of what’s hot makes ā€œGlobal Movesā€ a song with a timeless quality.

Standing on the shoulders of hip-hop giants, DJ Views knew he wanted to collaborate with artists he admired to create something meaningful. While working on his first project, ā€œThe Year After,ā€ with UK producer Configa, he connected with the two artists who appear on ā€œGlobal Moves.ā€ He reached out to Dell-P, a rapper/songwriter out of Philadelphia who’s been steadily rising through the music industry after his award-winning debut album. The other incredible artist is Milwaukee hip-hop legend Speech (Arrested Development), whose rap cadence further contributes to the song’s timelessness.

Speech:

ā€œMan I know that when my mouth opens
Another rap stereotype bout the south is broken
A total rebel on global levels – not bout the joking
Turn styles in the underground without a tokenā€

Dell-P:

ā€œBefore the net I had a street buzz,
Been the trend before you knew what a tweet was,
I always give ā€˜em gems I don’t release duds,
The ones who make the most sense get the least loveā€

These efforts culminated in the recording of ā€œGlobal Movesā€ during the lockdown in Sydney, Australia. DJ Views’ specific goal with his latest release is he ā€œjust wanted to send a positive message, show that real hip-hop is still alive and that tracks like this don’t need ego or curse words.ā€

DJ Views has been DJing and hosting parties for over 22 years. An executive chef by trade, he currently runs his independent outfit Gizmo Produktionz where he puts out music with some of the most exciting artists in the game. An emphasis on music production and beat-making began at the start of the pandemic, with numerous projects on the horizon.

The latest single produced by DJ Views featuring Speech and Dell-P, ā€œGlobal Moves,ā€ is available now on all music platforms.

Wet Leg Unveil New Single ā€œAngelicaā€ AND Announce ā€œChaise Longueā€ 7ā€ repress AND Tour Dates

0

With the release of Wet Leg’s self-titled debut album just over a month away (due April 8th), the Isle of Wight duo (Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers) are pleased to unveil their new single ā€œAngelicaā€.

Named after Rhian’s oldest friend, ā€œAngelicaā€ was recorded in Hester’s living room, by bandmate Joshua Mobaraki. A mixture of the absurd (ā€œShe brought lasagne to the partyā€), the sardonic (ā€œI don’t wanna listen to your bandā€) and social angst (ā€œI look at my feet then I look for the doorā€), it’s a trippy, synth-kissed journey through parties and regrets. “It’s laced with disenchantment,” Rhian says. “Even though the chorus is ‘good times, all the time’. That’s just impossible, isn’t it?ā€

The video – self-directed by the band – was shot on the island and is an unbridled record of Rhian and Hester’s friendship complete with high-kicks, fisticuffs, kiss-and-make ups, vast amounts of hair and even more dancing.

Additionally, the sold out ā€œChaise Longueā€ 7ā€ from last year is getting a repress and is available to buy here.

Several of the band’s US dates have been upgraded. Full details can be found below.
