Toronto Rocker And Roller Derby Star SIOBAMM Crushes “Bones” with New Single

0

Roller derby enthusiast turned production badass of rock and roll, Siobamm trades in her roller skates for electric guitars and microphones on her new single, “Bones” — available now.

The indie songstress is no stranger to the recording studio, having been introduced to the music community through her family’s band Madd Paddy. As Siobamm remembers, she stepped into the recording booth at the age of ten, and thereafter spent her formative years in Irish bars watching her talented kin perform.

Now, she’s utilized her know-how and the creative genes passed down to her to create, design and devise a home studio she can call her own. From derby girl to songwriter, and producer, Siobamm can safely say she inherited the family business.

When the pandemic caused a global shutdown, it became obvious to Siobamm that a return to roller derby was unlikely in any near future. Inspired by the space and time she was afforded under lockdown, she took to learning music production, honed in on her previous experience performing in bands and went back to her song writing roots. “I’m proud of myself and what I created in a year,” she says. “I’m excited to keep learning and growing in all aspects of music.”

On her debut EP, Gloom Patrol (May 2021), Siobamm’s efforts as both the writer and the producer provide a complete insight to her as an artist, and what she was willing to put forward for her debut record.

Dreamy, fuzzy, lo-fi guitar. Alternative, grungy, melodic harmonies. Clever lyrics. Smart visuals. Siobamm has carefully curated the album from the opening riff to the presentation in video. Fiona Apple spooning with Mazzy Starr, singing an Elle King lullaby. A 90s soundscape with a modern, cutting edge.

“There are not a lot of women in music production,” Siobamm says, emphasizing: “I want to show girls that learning the technical stuff isn’t hard, and is really interesting and fun.”

With quarantine in mind, Gloom Patrol’s four-track-strong song list is a gothic anthem for the misfits dealing with the misfortunes of a world lost, and tucked away. Each track reminds the listener there is someone else on the other side of this tin can — just like you. Like me. Like Siobamm, who eagerly understands the peril of human existence in a time where everyone was locked down and forced to keep themselves company.

It’s a love letter to all of us, penned by a gal who took the time she was given to write something we could all relate to; chopped up into blended pieces that make the package perfect for the pallet.

It’ll have you asking for seconds. And let’s hope this jammer has plenty more in the pack.

Gloom Patrol and “Bones” are available now.

“The Sounds Of Us” Featuring Ben Folds, Sarah McLachlan, Patti Smith and More Is Now Out

0

“The Sound of Us” illustrates that during this critical time in world and U.S. history, music gives sound to hope and courage, allows us to grieve and be honest, and is the great, universal language that unites us all.

As the world grapples with unrest the profound truth remains that, through music, we are not alone.

The Sound of Us weaves inspiring stories about the beauty and goodness of music with interviews and performances by artists such as Ben Folds, Sarah McLachlan, Avery*Sunshine, Eric Whitacre, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Hiromi, Antonio Sanchez, Butch Walker, Will Wells, Patti Smith, and many more. Combined, these powerful vignettes illustrate how music heals us, gives us hope for the future through our children, keeps our heritage and history alive, allows us to have the most difficult of conversations, sheds light on current struggles, and continues to invite us back to the thing that unites us all – music.

The film is directed by Chris Gero, a Grammy nominated, American music industry executive, concert producer, record producer, songwriter, film director and composer, founder of Yamaha Entertainment Group of America and Chief Artist Relations Executive for Yamaha Artist Relations Group

Midge Ure Returns To North America This Fall – Un-Zoomed And Face To Face

0

Midge Ure returns to North America for an East Coast run of dates this fall. “Un-Zoomed And Face To Face” will see Midge playing solo-acoustic versions of songs from his vast career including Ultravox, Visage, Thin Lizzy and his solo albums. Ure is excited to return to the road after almost two years.

The last time Ure toured the states was in early 2020 with his one man ‘Songs, Questions and Answers’ and in spring 2020 the 1980 Tour hit New Zealand and Australia just at the same time as Covid-19. This led to the run being cut short and Midge and the band returning home to and empty tour diary and a very different world. With touring stalled Midge devised a way of doing performances and keeping connected with his audience from his studio with the conception of the Backstage Lockdown Club. Ure said “I had seen many artists doing home concerts singing and playing into their webcams and irrespective of how good the artists were the look and sound were not really up to scratch. So I did a lot of research into Hi -res cameras and visual mixers etc and put together a ‘one man’ system which enabled me to webcast at a quality level’ He went on to say “This has been a lifeline for not just me but the audience as well”

Midge Ure is now working on three albums including a follow up to Fragile, an Orchestrated Pt. 2 and an instrumental album.

Midge Ure has an impressive catalogue fronting the groundbreaking electrorock band Ultravox as well as being a member of such notable bands as Visage and Thin Lizzy. He helped form Band Aid where he produced and co-wrote the smash charity single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas,’ still one of the biggest singles in UK music history. He was also one of the principle creators of Live Aid and Live 8 along with Bob Geldof. Ure has spent most of his career touring the globe playing solo and with Ultravox who reformed in 2009. He served the notable role of MD for the Princes Trust at the Royal Albert Hall with a cast of the usual suspects including Queen, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and Mark King.
