Hear Tom Morello Across SiriusXM, with New Streaming Channels, Weekly Show and Podcast

0

SiriusXM announced today a new collaboration with groundbreaking rock guitarist and acoustic troubadour, Tom Morello, including all-original content that spans three new streaming music channels and a new additional weekly show beginning March 2, and an original podcast, beginning March 3.

The content hand-crafted by Morello includes streaming music channels that are part of  SiriusXM’s Xtra Channels offering, which has expanded even more since its debut of 100 curated music channels in early 2019. Morello’s music channels will amplify the intersection where music and activism collide, a wide-range of heavy metal music, and will explore his personal influences and musical collection. See channel info below.

“When SiriusXM approached me about doing a new slate of shows, I only had one condition: I say what I wanna say and I play what I wanna play,” said Morello. “When the right combination of rhythm and rhyme washes over a huge throng or transmits through an ear bud it can provide a spark for action or a life raft for survival. Music MATTERS. And I’m very much looking forward to inflicting on listeners the music that matters to me.”

Tom Morello’s Battle Hymns Radio (ch. 1124) will thread the needle between music and activism throughout history and genres.  The channel will provide an audio assault of rebel anthems featuring the Freedom songs of the 1960s, the hip hop music that has been standing up for Black lives for decades, and the mosh pit-inciting, radically-raging rock.

Tom Morello’s Heavy Metal Happy Hour Radio (ch. 1122) will feature a hand-selected array of heavy metal music, ranging from hidden gems to classic cuts for a happy hour that never ends.

Tom Morello’s Riffs, Rhymes, & Rebellion Radio (ch. 1123) will dive deep into Morello’s personal record collection to showcase the diverse sonic landscape of riffs, beats, and ballads that shaped his music and career.

Tom Morello’s three Xtra channels are the latest additions to SiriusXM’s stable of music channels created with iconic artists including The Beatles, U2, Bruce SpringsteenTom Petty, Pearl Jam, Eminem, LL COOL J, Phish, Garth BrooksKenny ChesneyKirk Franklin, Diplo, Bob Marley, B.B. King, Elvis PresleyFrank Sinatra and more.

SiriusXM’s E Street Radio will debut Tom Morello’s Radio Comandante, a weekly show dedicated to a new musical theme, featuring a collection of wildly diverse songs that have influenced him as an artist. Each week his show will air on a SiriusXM channel that suits the current show’s theme. The premiere show of Tom Morello’s Radio Comandante will focus on the theme of American class consciousness and examine the 80-year history behind Bruce Springsteen’s song “The Ghost of Tom Joad.”  The show will air Tuesday, March 2 at 10 a.m. ET and 4 p.m. ET on channel 20, with replays throughout the week.

This is Morello’s second weekly show on SiriusXM, following the incredible success of Tom Morello’s One Man Revolution on SiriusXM’s Lithium channel, where Morello shares stories spanning his 30-year career as a groundbreaking artist, while taking listeners on a fearless exploration through 90s alternative & grunge music that ignited a revolution. Tom Morello’s One Man Revolution airs every Monday at 4 p.m. ET on channel 34.

Adding to the latest array and launch of SiriusXM’s original, exclusive and popular podcasts is Tom Morello’s Maximum Firepower, which will be available on the SiriusXM app, Pandora, Stitcher, and wherever listeners access their podcasts, beginning Wednesday March 3 and air weekly on SiriusXM’s Volume, channel 106 every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. ET, also beginning on March 3.  This SiriusXM original, weekly podcast will focus on the music, the moments, and the movements that have shaped Tom’s worldview and left an indelible mark on him as an artist and activist.

Willie Nelson Writes ‘Letters to America’ in New Book

0

American music legend Willie Nelson follows his bestselling books It’s a Long Story and The Tao of Willie with Letters to America, a more personal and intimate book than anything he’s ever written. The book will be published by Harper Horizon on June 29th.

From his opening letter “Dear America” to his “Dear Willie” epilogue, Willie digs deep into his heart and soul–and his music catalog–to lift us up in difficult times, and to remind us of the endless promise and continuous obligations of all Americans–to themselves, to one another, and to their nation.

In a series of letters straight from the heart, Willie sends his thanks and his thoughts to Americans past, present, and future, his closest family members, and his personal heroes, from our founding fathers to the leaders of future generations.

Willie’s letters are rounded out with the moving lyrics to some of his most famous and insightful songs, including “Let Me Be a Man,” “Family Bible,” “Summer of Roses,” “Me and Paul,” and “Yesterday”s Wine.”

The UK’s Most Beautiful Gig Venues

0

There’s a real appetite for live music as we begin to approach the spring and the possibility that we may well be on the front row once again in the not so distant future. Many people are already planning their first gigs, and if you are looking to get out there, hands in the air, and celebrate in style, then why not do it in beautiful surroundings too?

There are many incredible music venues across the UK, and below a company has pulled together a few of our favourites they’re looking forward to going back to…

Albert Hall, Manchester

The Albert Hall in Manchester is just as beautiful as its Royal namesake in the capital and over the last few years has become a real favourite for touring acts visiting the northern powerhouse.

Not just a gig venue, you’ll find live comedy, poetry, and even a monthly bingo night at the venue. Bingo sites UK are so popular at present and Albert Hall has really cashed in on what is hot and what is not when it comes to what it offers. The building itself dates back to 1908 and was originally a Methodist Hall before opening in 2014, with Anna Calvi the first artist to take to the stage.

Empire Music Hall, Belfast

The Empire Music Hall in Belfast is an intimate venue that still enjoys much of its old music hall charm. It’s a converted church and the Empire Bar is open until late every night, with live music most evenings. The music hall itself hosts a combination of tribute acts and up-and-coming bands, with plenty of famous faces passing through the doors down the years.

It’s impossible not to fall in love with this place, and you can also enjoy a bite to eat. What’s not to love about that?

Wilton’s Music Hall, London

Wilton’s is one of the oldest surviving music halls around today and is located just off the Thames down by Tower Hamlets. It is a stunning venue and an incredible place to see a one-off show, with big names such as Duran Duran, Paolo Nutini, and Anna Calvi having played there.

It’s worth popping in if you’re in the city even just for a drink in the Cocktail Bar, which is open daily and offers a stunning atmosphere.

Bush Hall, London

Bush Hall is a dance hall that first opened its doors in 1904 and has served as a bingo hall, wartime soup kitchen, snooker hall, and now world-class music venue. It reopened in 2001 with a focus on concerts and has hosted plenty of new bands making their way in the industry, as well as special intimate shows from Florence & the Machine, Adele, and REM.

The Edwardian hall is incredibly grand and is located in Shepherd’s Bush, holding just 425 people. The Bush Hall Dining Rooms is just next door too for a bit of pre-gig food and drink, making it a pretty special place for a gig, and if you get the chance to see a big act there, a truly unforgettable one.

The Tragically Hip to receive 2021 Humanitarian Award at The JUNO Awards

0

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced today that 15-time JUNO Award-winning band and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees, The Tragically Hip, will receive the 2021 Humanitarian Award Presented by Music Canada during The 50th annual JUNO Awards on CBC. The Tragically Hip’s timeless music and philanthropic pursuits have touched millions of lives across the globe and across generations. The band has helped to raise and donate millions of dollars for various social and environmental causes including Camp Trillium, The Canadian Cancer Society, the Sunnybrook Foundation, the Special Olympics and more.

The Humanitarian Award recognizes outstanding Canadian artists or industry leaders whose humanitarian contributions have positively enhanced the social fabric of Canada and beyond. The award will be presented to The Tragically Hip at The 50th Annual JUNO Awards Broadcast, on Sunday, May 16, 2021 airing nationwide on CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music and streaming globally on CBCmusic.ca/junos.

“We are honoured to present The Tragically Hip with this year’s Humanitarian Award,” said Allan Reid, President & CEO, CARAS/The JUNO Awards & MusiCounts. “For decades, this group of musical brothers has contributed to helping improve the social well-being of others and protecting the vast natural wonders of this country we call home. After a challenging year when the power of kindness and generosity were more necessary than ever, we are proud to commemorate the band’s tireless activism and charitable achievements at The 50th Annual JUNO Awards.”

We are honoured to be receiving the 2021 Humanitarian Award,” said the band. “Our admiration for the past recipients makes it impossible not to feel humbled as well. We learned early on back in Kingston that you can accomplish great things with a stage and a willing audience. It’s about building community, and no one appreciated that responsibility more than Gord Downie. He was committed to social and environmental justice and we remain inspired by his example. Best intentions can achieve little without loyal support and action, so we consider this award as much a recognition for fans of our group, as they have been there for us through everything, and for every cause, and for that we are eternally grateful. We share this honour with you.”

The Tragically Hip have been part of the national arts fabric for more than three decades and evoke a strong emotional connection between their music and global fanbase, which remains unrivalled in this country. The five-piece group of friends includes Rob Baker (guitar), the late Gord Downie (vocals, guitar), Johnny Fay (drums), Paul Langlois (guitar) and Gord Sinclair (bass). Originating from Kingston, ON, The Hip (as they are known to their fans) have achieved the enviable status of a band that enjoys mass popularity, with more than 10 million albums sold worldwide, all while maintaining a grassroots following across the nation. The Tragically Hip were inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and honoured with the Order of Canada in 2017 for their tireless involvement with the Indigenous rights movement.

From the early days of their music career, the band has been at the forefront of fundraising and social awareness efforts, playing host to many benefit concerts over the years in support of causes close to their heart. In 1993, the band donated proceeds from a concert to the Healthcare 2000 campaign in support of Kingston’s hospitals. In 2000, The Hip produced and headlined a benefit concert in Winnipeg for WAR Child Canada, the largest ever outdoor performance in the country at the time. In 2004 they created “The Tragically Hip Community Fund” to continue to support local charities in their hometown. Many charitable organizations have benefitted from The Tragically Hip’s generous endeavours, including ALS, Parkinson’s research, AIDS awareness and fundraising, The White Ribbon Campaign (ending violence against women), food banks, the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, many environmental issues including Waterkeeper Alliance, the Special Olympics, the Limestone Learning Foundation, B’nai Brith Canada, Camp Trillium and more.

In 2016 the band embarked on a 15-show, final tour and the last show in their hometown of Kingston was broadcast live across all platforms on CBC, with an estimated 11.7 million people tuning in to watch. The tour also helped raise over one million dollars for The Canadian Cancer Society and the Sunnybrook Foundation. Charismatic front-man, Gord Downie, passed away on October 17, 2017 following his battle with terminal brain cancer.

Most recently, the band donated over $50,000 to music industry charity, Unison Benevolent Fund, through the sale of their “Courage Masks.” Proceeds from the sale of the masks go directly to Unison’s Financial Assistance program to provide ongoing emergency financial relief for musicians and crew members during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reusable non-medical cloth masks are still available for purchase here.

Linda Perry and Sean Penn Curate Rock ‘N’ Relief For Charity Featuring Foo Fighters,  Deadmau5, Perry Farrell and More

0

Legendary producer & Hall of Fame songwriter Linda Perry is set to curate and perform at the upcoming two-day Rock ‘N’ Relief: Live Stream Series.  Founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee, CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) is a non-profit organization dedicated to crisis response.

CORE has been working tirelessly on the frontlines with partners to provide equitable access to free testing and vaccines across Los Angeles for the past year.  This two-day live stream will benefit CORE’s life-saving programs.  In addition, the concert will also benefit CORE’s work supporting the City of L.A.’s mobile vaccination program, which brings access to the vaccine directly to communities who need it most across L.A. The mobile vaccination program targets low-income communities of color that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. By providing direct access within the community and offering on-site registration, CORE is helping to eliminate the disparities in health equity as it relates to vaccine distribution and COVID-19 testing.

Additionally, CORE helps operate the City of L.A.’s mass vaccination site at Dodger Stadium, which is currently serving as the largest vaccination site in the U.S., providing an average of 8,000 vaccines daily, with the capacity to administer more than 12,000 vaccines per day, pending vaccine supply. Linda Perry’s Rock n’ Relief concert aims to be a magnet to bring awareness to CORE as well as raise money in support of CORE’s daily outreach to broaden its impact in the community during this pandemic.

“Our critical mission within this moment of the pandemic is to provide equitable relief services to our local community, and we rely on donations to continue our efforts,” said CORE’s Co-Founder and CEO, Ann Lee. “We are thrilled that Linda Perry has curated such an amazing group of artists to support our cause and bring comfort and joy to people in this time of hardship.”

“As a mother and fellow member of this community, I wanted to do something to lift spirits and send a positive message of hope and humanity to all the healthcare workers and those on the front lines, as well as raise awareness and funds to support CORE and their relief efforts,” said event producer and longtime CORE supporter Linda Perry. “When I first put the word out, many jumped on board to contribute; we had over 150 bands submit to play. We are pleased to announce that California Love Drop and Monty’s Good Burger will provide food and beverages to all the digital workers that will be working hard to bring this powerful content to the viewers of this impactful concert series. Our goal is to do everything we can to thank CORE and the self-sacrificing people who keep us safe during this unprecedented crisis.”

The current lineup for this two-day concert series hosted by DJ Kat Corbett of SiriusXM & KROQ will feature artists like Foo Fighters,  Deadmau5, Perry Farrell, Miguel, Carly Simon w/ David Saw, Gavin Rossdale, Pete Yorn, James Blunt, Jewel, Tracy Bonham, Sheryl Crow, Sammy Hagar DJ Adam Bravin (of She Wants Revenge), SHAED, Macy Gray, Willa Ami, Juliette Lewis, Donita Sparks of L7 & Friends, Linda Perry, Pete Molinari, Kevin Bacon, Silversun Pickups and more.  Perry and CORE are working with Amazon Music to stream the concert live on the Amazon Music mobile app, and through the Amazon Music Twitch channel at twitch.tv/amazonmusic.  Rolling Stone and YouTube will also further the reach of this timeless event. “We are extremely overwhelmed by the level of support we are getting from these rebel artists who are generously donating their time and so grateful for the backing from the biggest players in the media space. Can’t wait to get the word out and provide much needed funding for CORE while entertaining and lifting the spirits of the nation.” says Perry.

CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) is a nonprofit organization co-founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee that is dedicated to saving lives and strengthening communities affected by or vulnerable to crisis. Within hours of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Penn mobilized a powerful network to take immediate action. More than 10 years later, CORE continues to lead sustainable programs focused on four pillars: emergency relief, disaster preparedness, environmental resiliency and community building. The organization has expanded beyond Haiti to support communities in The Bahamas, Puerto Rico and the United States. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, CORE has been operating free testing sites across the country alongside local partners, providing essential resources and contact tracing services as well as part of its integrated “CORE 8” approach to combat the pandemic. In 2021, CORE is working with its partners nationwide to ensure safe and equitable distribution of vaccines as they become available to the communities the organization serves.
