New Zealand Artist Pickle Darling Expands The World Of ‘Bots’ With Companion EP ‘crumple zones’

0

Fresh off the release of their fourth album ‘Bots’, New Zealand’s Pickle Darling returns with ‘crumple zones’, a companion EP that reimagines and expands the record’s sonic landscape. Where ‘Bots’ was carefully assembled, this new collection leans into immediacy and live energy, offering alternate versions, acoustic reinterpretations, and a collaboration with Father/Daughter labelmate Anna McClellan.

“massive everything (alternate version)” reframes the original with lush guitars and Nashville tuning, exploring the emotional “crumple zones” we build to protect ourselves. Meanwhile, “human bean (alternate version)” strips things back to delicate fingerpicking, revealing a softer core. On “pinwheels (featuring Anna McClellan),” the long-awaited collaboration unfolds with an intentionally messy charm, Anna’s vocals recorded casually on a phone, background noise intact, creating a warm, nostalgic intimacy.

The EP also extends into the visual realm, with artwork inspired by layered woodcut prints that experiment with color and texture, echoing the songs’ exploratory spirit. Approached as a weekend workshop rather than a traditional album cycle, ‘crumple zones’ captures Pickle Darling in a playful, expansive mode, free from pressure and open to possibility.

Pontypridd trio CHROMA round off a breakout stretch with their new single “Lifehack,” out now via Alcopop! Records. Doubling down on their fuzzy, melancholic direction, the track explores the surreal logistics of dating on reality TV. Vocalist KT Hall shares that the song was inspired by considering a stint on Channel 4’s First Dates and imagining what it might feel like to fall in love in a public fishbowl.

The release follows their return single “Riverhouse,” which earned Radio Wales A List status and BBC 6Music support, amassing more than 400 global radio plays in 60 days. Two years on from their Welsh Music Prize-nominated debut album Ask For Angela, CHROMA are stepping confidently into a bold new chapter.

Drummer Zac Mather calls the past few years a whirlwind, with the band taking their debut around the world before returning to the studio to craft what they see as their strongest material yet. Hall adds that the new songs push them further as writers, drawing from deeply personal themes including grief, heartbreak, and navigating life from a deindustrialised South Wales.

After recent live dates with PINS and a Music Venue Trust Grassroots Venues Tour with BILK, CHROMA have also been announced for FOCUS Wales 2026. More shows and new music are on the horizon as the trio head into an ambitious year ahead.

French Alt.Rock Outfit Paerish Reimagine “Houses of American Style” On ‘The Soissons Sessions’

0

French alt-rock band Paerish announce ‘The Soissons Sessions,’ out now via SideOneDummy, and share “Houses of American Style” recorded live at L’Ancienne Abbaye Saint-Léger. Inspired by the spirit of MTV Unplugged, the EP sees the band dismantle four songs from ‘You’re in both dreams (and you’re scared)’ and rebuild them in a stark, resonant acoustic setting inside a centuries-old abbey in Soissons.

“The members of Paerish all grew up in the 90s with MTV Unplugged,” says frontman Mathias Court. “Stripping a production down to its core to keep only the writing, the emotion, and the performance.” The result is intimate yet expansive. Electric urgency gives way to folk-flecked vocals, delicate acoustics and intricate arrangements that reveal new contours in familiar songs.

“The songs we chose and recorded for this live session were all originally written in Soissons during the COVID-19 period. Playing them again in the very city where they were born felt obvious — a way of closing the loop,” Court explains. “Houses of American Style” speaks directly to childhood, hometown memory and the strange feeling of return. The setting intensifies that connection.

Filmed and recorded live in the abbey that loomed large in Court’s youth, ‘The Soissons Sessions’ is both homecoming and artistic reset. As Paerish prepare to enter the studio for their fourth album, this release stands as a striking bridge between origin and evolution.

Los Angeles psychedelic rock outfit Tombstones In Their Eyes release ‘Under Dark Skies,’ out now via Little Cloud Records in North America and Shore Dive Records in the UK and EU. Formed a decade ago by childhood friends John Treanor and James Cooper trading demos between coasts, the band has grown into a full collective. Today’s lineup features Treanor, Stephen Striegel, Courtney Davies, Phil Cobb, Nic Nifoussi and Clea Cullen, with the spirit of guitarist Paul Boutin present throughout the record.

Recorded and engineered by Paul Roessler at Kitten Robot Studios, co-produced by Treanor and mastered by Alex DeYoung, the album channels a period of upheaval into something expansive. “In many ways, ‘Under Dark Skies’ is both a snapshot and a refutation of the period of time between mid-2023 and 2024,” Treanor says. The songs confront shame, chaos and collapse head-on, then push forward with force.

“’Under Dark Skies’ is an arrow pointed towards hope,” Treanor continues. “Life is messy and, as human beings, we make mistakes. But even when it seems darkest, one can find strength and move towards the light.” The album moves through pain and fear toward renewal, grounded in swirling guitars and immersive atmospherics that feel both heavy and transcendent.

The band also shares the video for “Alive and Well,” dedicated to Paul Boutin, who passed away in October 2025. “While not planned that way, ‘Alive and Well’ ended up being a statement of intent,” Treanor explains. Created by Italian visual artist Francesca Bonci, the video underscores the album’s central theme of resilience. ‘Under Dark Skies’ stands as a powerful testament to healing through sound.

Houston Electronic R&B Alchemist Lotus Karma Soars With “LGA”

Houston-born electronic R&B shapeshifter Lotus Karma releases “LGA,” a dreamy, mid-air meditation written while leaving New York City after a breakup. The single drifts in a floating haze, perfect for late-night travel and reflective headspace. It captures a suspended moment, weightless and intimate, where memory and movement blur together.

Karma builds sound worlds from shimmering drum and bass, trap, electro and R&B textures. His production is atmospheric and immersive, shaped by underground club culture and studio craft honed in New York rooms like IMI, Muse WAV and Platinum Sound. “LGA” glides on layered rhythms and soft-focus emotion, expanding from a quiet spark into widescreen pop detail.

Life in motion defines his story. From an LA rise to deep immersion in NYC’s scene, and back to Houston to build his debut at 713 Studios, Karma channels transition into tone. Each track feels like a threshold moment, caught between departure and arrival.

“I dream of a return to shared music culture. Bringing people together in a new world of sound and feeling.
