Montreal Brother/Sister Duo JUST COSTA Set Sights on a “Bubblegum Sky” With New Summer Bop – Available Now!

0

Canadian brother-sister popster duo Just Costa are gazing up and out at a “Bubblegum Sky” when it comes to this, their latest summer bop and stunning lyric visualizer — available now!

The Montreal-based fam-band embodies the term “happy-go-lucky” through and through, and counts music like a ticket to their own sonic theme park. “We call it Just Costa Land,” quips Jesse Just Costa, who leads the outfit with older sibling Juliana. “It’s like this: We want to bring the sense of an amusement park to our music. The excitement, the enthusiasm, the joie de vivre, the willingness to be happy and grateful and positive and live life to the extreme; that’s what we’re trying to construct.”

Between them, they have all the building blocks they need in a sort of supernatural blend of style, skill and substance that takes a lifetime to achieve. Which is about how long the Just Costas have been making music.

By age 13, guitar prodigy Jesse was taking Montreal’s rock scene by storm, playing lead and fronting his own outfit. Meanwhile, Juliana had begun a solo career as an acoustic singer-songwriter. The turning point came a few years ago, when she was heading to Vancouver to record. Jesse decided to tag along, and in need of material, they began to write together for the sessions. The magic was instant. “We weren’t just putting catchphrases over standard chords; we were writing these intricate, meaningful songs,” Jesse recalls. “That really solidified things. That’s when we really hit the ground running together.”

They haven’t slowed. Since joining forces (and fittingly combining their parents’ surnames for their handle), they’ve more than made up for any lost time. They’ve appeared on talent show La Voix (The Voice), played over 400 shows — including a 16-date tour of Italy — performed at festivals and conferences (including the MUZ showcase in Montreal, where they took home a trio of people’s choice awards), released one album — In Time, All Things under their previous moniker Juliana & Jesse — and are midway through writing and recording a new full-length. More focused and ambitious, their newer material takes full advantage of their creative kinship and shared vision — while also acknowledging their different musical backgrounds and skill sets. “One of our greatest strengths in working together is how varied our individual strengths are,” Jesse explains. “I know where Juliana has me beat, and where she might be able to handle a situation twice as well, and I feel like she knows the same about me. So that’s where the lines get drawn.”

As if on cue, she picks up the thread: “For the most part, Jesse has a real knack for melody and chords, and groove as well. So he’ll put something down and we can play off that. And I really like to write lyrics, so we’ll play off of each other. We work together really well in that sense. Other times, I’ll have a really simple kind of idea on the guitar and I can always count on Jesse to spice it up. It’s always good to have a partner in any venture, and there’s no better partner than family. We are really connected — we’re also best friends — and we really do see it as a big blessing. We’re not scared to push each other. And by bringing the best out of each other, we’ve reached some really cool and unique places songwriting-wise that we might not have found. And we feel we have something really special we can bring to people.”

That gift in a nutshell: Love. “I break down life into two really simple things: doing what you love and doing it with the people that you love,” Jesse says. “That’s really where the magic comes from. That’s when the highs start getting higher and the lows don’t feel so bad. That’s what we have, and that’s what we want to share with people. Really, we want to light up every room that we go into. I feel such an energy and positivity inside of me and so much gratitude for everything I have. We want to bring that to ourselves and to bring other people with us. We want … ”

Naturally, Juliana finishes his thought: “We want to take everybody along for the ride.”

The destination? Just Costa Land, of course. Enjoy the trip and get ready to groove.

“Bubblegum Sky” is available now.

Along with performing at a number of North America’s biggest music festivals, including Osheaga, Festival d’été de Québec and Austin City Limits, and opening for the likes of The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters and Alanis Morrissette, The Beaches headlined their own highly successful The Professional Tour earlier this year, which culminated in three sold-out shows at The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto. The Beaches will perform live at The Rec Room Toronto along with JUNO-nominated alternative pop group and Universal Music Canada band Valley, who have garnered over 60 million global streams and spent 2019 touring North America as support for Lennon Stella and The Band Camino on sold out tours. The event will be in support of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, where over the last month nearly $210,000 in donations from SCENE will provide kids across the country with unforgettable experiences to enjoy with their friends and families. Neil Young Releases Video For “Lookin’ For A Leader 2020”

0

NEIL YOUNG has released a video for “Lookin’ For A Leader 2020” from the recent Porch Episode of his acclaimed Fireside Sessions livestream series. “Lookin’ For A Leader 2020” is now viewable on YouTubeThe original version of the track appeared on Young’s 2006 masterpiece LIVING WITH WAR.  This timely 2020 update targets the problems we currently face.

“Lookin’ For A Leader 2020”

Leaders walk among us
and I hope they hear our call.
Maybe it’s a woman
or a black man after all.
Lookin’ for a leader
to bring our country home,
reunite the red white and blue
before it turns to stone.

Lookin’ for somebody
With the strength to take it on;
keep us safe together
and make this country strong.
Walkin’  among our people
There’s someone to lead us on;
lead a rainbow of colors
in a broken world gone wrong.

Yeah, we had Barack Obama
and we really need him now.
The man who stood behind him
has to take his place somehow.
America has a leader
building walls around our house.
He don’t know black lives matter
and we got to vote him out.

We got our election,
but corruption has a chance
We got to have a big win
to regain confidence.
America is beautiful
but she has an ugly side.
We’re lookin’ for a leader
in this country far and wide.

Just like his big new fence,

this president’s goin’ down.
America’s movin’ forward.
You can feel it in every town.
Scared of his own shadow,
building walls around our house,
he’s hidin’ in his bunker;
something else to lie about.

We don’t need a leader

building walls around our house
who don’t know black lives matter
and it’s time to vote him out!
We’re lookin’ for a leader
with The Great Spirit on his side;
lookin’ for a leader
in this country far and wide.
Lookin’ for a leader
with The Great Spirit on his side.

October 24, 2000: Linkin Park’s debut album galvanized, captivated and defined a generation. Hybrid Theory established a new course for music with its inspired combination of heavy alternative rock, hip-hop, and electronic. Hybrid Theory emerged as “the best-selling album of 2001 in the US, selling 11 million copies stateside, achieving the rare “Diamond Award” (10 million) from the RIAA, and selling over 25 million albums worldwide. The fans elevated Linkin Park to rarified air among a small handful of legends. Nonstop touring ushered them from clubs to arenas and stadiums as singles “One Step Closer,” “Crawling,” and “In The End” became embedded in popular culture. This summer, #1 pop single “In The End” just crossed the 1-billion view threshold on YouTube—their second video to do so following “Numb.” The band also took home their first GRAMMY Award in the category of “Best Rock Performance” for “Crawling.”

Last week, Linkin Park transformed their website, LinkinPark.com, into a retro-style turn-of-the-century computer desktop full of folders and files. The site was updated daily to reveal new clues about the upcoming Hybrid Theory 20th Anniversary and culminated with the reveal of a video trailer on the site announcing the details of the release.

With 500,000+ Streams, ROOM 217 FOUNDATION’s Music Collections Help Canadians Struggling with Increased Anxiety, Depression

0

With a recent report from Mental Health Research Canada citing the rate of anxiety quadrupling in the wake of COVID-19, an increasing number of Canadians are seeking additional tools to ease their days. One such resource has been Canadian health arts organization Room 217 Foundation and the newly expanded release of their highly innovative non-pharmacological music care collections for digital streaming — available now.

Room 217 music is produced with defined therapeutic and artistic values, including familiar songs and sounds in comforting styles, 60-minute continuous play, with a mix of instrumental-only and albums with vocals — both gently arranged for up to six voices or instruments. Tempos are paced between 54 – 72 beats per minute to entrain with a resting heart rate, and the collections have been streamed upwards of 500,000 times since launching.

“Since we’ve been under social isolation rules, there has been all kinds of social chatter about people experiencing sleep disturbances, sadness, anxiety and depression,” says Room 217 Foundation Executive Director Bev Foster. “Living with these weights on our shoulders, especially as we are socially isolated from the people we love and who support us, is affecting many people’s mental health.

“Our library offers demonstrated relief for care providers, family members, frontline workers, and self-care alike.”

Initially designed as an accessible comfort tool in the resource kits of nursing and care staff, volunteers, hospices, palliative care units, long-term care and assisted living homes, Room 217’s increased availability offers unprecedented access for home and personal use within families.

A world leader in music care, Room 217’s expanded digital availability adds to already more than 45,000+ copies sold worldwide, and includes this season’s newest releases: Collection 3: Diverse Sounds, Collection 4: Boomer Tracks.

Also available are Collection 1: Soul Comfort and Collection 2: Memorable Moments. Each collection features six full-length albums.

“Room 217 Music Collections were initially designed to be a cost-effective comfort tool to meet the psychosocial and spiritual needs of persons in palliative and end-of-life care,” Foster shares. “We are forerunners in bringing the caregiver, especially the family caregiver as a vital care partner, into the music and health sector.

“Our Music Collections can be used in self-care, too — especially among those suffering forms of insomnia, burnout, compassion fatigue, or increased anxiety and depression.”

Her recommendations? “If you’re experiencing trouble sleeping, I’d start with Gentle Waters, British Invasion, or Lotus Blossom,” she offers. “My favourite for starting the day off is Road Trip, and Broadway Melodies, and Bamboo Garden is perfect if you’re trying to focus while working or reset in the afternoon.”

Promoting sleep and a general sense of peacefulness, Room 217 Music Collections have been proven to help alleviate agitation and anxiety, provide comfort and a distraction from pain, make eating more enjoyable, assist in closure and relationship completion, enhance communications through reminiscence, and more, as well as de-stress caregivers and make care and dying spaces beautiful.

Since its creation, Room 217 has dedicated itself to be a world- and industry-leader wholly focused on developing, producing and delivering research-informed music care products, education, training, and research.

“Music care is the intentional use of music by anyone to improve health and well-being,” Foster explains. “Music care integrates sound, silence and music into the circle of care, paying close attention to how interpersonal connection and human contact is enhanced through musical associations.

“I’ve been so encouraged by the number of videos shared since the start of COVID-19 featuring singing and music as a coping mechanism,” she continues. “In addition to tapping music for stress or emotional relief, it can be used to celebrate, feel connected, and as a means of expression.

“There’s even history on the use of music in other pandemics.”

Room 217 is a Canadian music-based health arts organization and social enterprise providing innovative approaches to well-being through a philosophy of music care. Collaborating with a top-notch team of skilled music educators, music therapists, music and health researchers, and community musicians and artists, the organization produces and delivers music care products, education, and training to help carers integrate music into their regular practice to enhance quality of life and improve the care experience.

In its 11 years of groundbreaking work, the impact Room 217 Foundation has had on those both receiving and providing care is immense. Through the development of numerous music care conferences, education platforms and products currently implemented within care settings across the country and around the world — including the Pathways Singing Program for dementia care, Conversation Cards for music sharing, Recollections for reminiscence, and Music Collections for palliative and end-of-life care — the Foundation is considered a national and international leader within the industry.

Room 217 Music Collections 1 – 4 are available now.
