SCENE and Universal Music Canada Announce New Partnership and Launch Music Program

0

Today, SCENECanada’s #1 Entertainment Loyalty Program, announced its new partnership with music label, Universal Music Canada, to showcase top artists and emerging performers through interactive programming. Starting with a livestream music event on August 26, the new initiative will introduce and feature a variety of artists and offer SCENE members exclusive content, socially distanced fan experiences and live events.

The inaugural SCENE Music event will be livestreamed from The Rec Room Toronto on August 268:00 PM ET for SCENE members across the country to join in. This will be The Rec Room Toronto’s first live event since closing its doors due to COVID-19 earlier this year, and marks the venue opening for safe music experiences in the coming months.

Headlining the event is JUNO Award-winning, Toronto-based rock band The Beaches, who have been making waves since their 2018 JUNO award win for Breakthrough Group of the Year. Along with performing at a number of North America’s biggest music festivals, including Osheaga, Festival d’été de Québec and Austin City Limits, and opening for the likes of The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters and Alanis Morrissette, The Beaches headlined their own highly successful The Professional Tour earlier this year, which culminated in three sold-out shows at The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto. The Beaches will perform live at The Rec Room Toronto along with JUNO-nominated alternative pop group and Universal Music Canada band Valley, who have garnered over 60 million global streams and spent 2019 touring North America as support for Lennon Stella and The Band Camino on sold out tours. Additionally, singer-songwriter Soran from Montréal will grace the stage virtually with his blend of dance music, reggae, funk and soul.

The event will be in support of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, where over the last month nearly $210,000 in donations from SCENE will provide kids across the country with unforgettable experiences to enjoy with their friends and families. The impact of these donations will be celebrated in a livestreamed segment during the SCENE Music event. Fans can tune into the music event through SCENE.ca/music and get close to the action by participating in digital games and polls.

Tune in on Wednesday, August 26 at 8:00 PM ET on SCENE.ca/music and dance along to hit songs and new singles, right from home! It is time to show that we’re better together, even if we’re apart. Members can use the hashtag #BetterTogether or visit SCENE’s social channels on Facebook (Facebook.com/SCENE), Twitter (@SCENECard) and Instagram (@SCENECard) to show how they are reconnecting with the people who matter most.

Neil Young Releases Video For “Lookin’ For A Leader 2020”

0

NEIL YOUNG has released a video for “Lookin’ For A Leader 2020” from the recent Porch Episode of his acclaimed Fireside Sessions livestream series. “Lookin’ For A Leader 2020” is now viewable on YouTubeThe original version of the track appeared on Young’s 2006 masterpiece LIVING WITH WAR.  This timely 2020 update targets the problems we currently face.

“Lookin’ For A Leader 2020”

Leaders walk among us
and I hope they hear our call.
Maybe it’s a woman
or a black man after all.
Lookin’ for a leader
to bring our country home,
reunite the red white and blue
before it turns to stone.

Lookin’ for somebody
With the strength to take it on;
keep us safe together
and make this country strong.
Walkin’  among our people
There’s someone to lead us on;
lead a rainbow of colors
in a broken world gone wrong.

Yeah, we had Barack Obama
and we really need him now.
The man who stood behind him
has to take his place somehow.
America has a leader
building walls around our house.
He don’t know black lives matter
and we got to vote him out.

We got our election,
but corruption has a chance
We got to have a big win
to regain confidence.
America is beautiful
but she has an ugly side.
We’re lookin’ for a leader
in this country far and wide.

Just like his big new fence,

this president’s goin’ down.
America’s movin’ forward.
You can feel it in every town.
Scared of his own shadow,
building walls around our house,
he’s hidin’ in his bunker;
something else to lie about.

We don’t need a leader

building walls around our house
who don’t know black lives matter
and it’s time to vote him out!
We’re lookin’ for a leader
with The Great Spirit on his side;
lookin’ for a leader
in this country far and wide.
Lookin’ for a leader
with The Great Spirit on his side.

October 24, 2000: Linkin Park’s debut album galvanized, captivated and defined a generation. Hybrid Theory established a new course for music with its inspired combination of heavy alternative rock, hip-hop, and electronic. Hybrid Theory emerged as “the best-selling album of 2001 in the US, selling 11 million copies stateside, achieving the rare “Diamond Award” (10 million) from the RIAA, and selling over 25 million albums worldwide. The fans elevated Linkin Park to rarified air among a small handful of legends. Nonstop touring ushered them from clubs to arenas and stadiums as singles “One Step Closer,” “Crawling,” and “In The End” became embedded in popular culture. This summer, #1 pop single “In The End” just crossed the 1-billion view threshold on YouTube—their second video to do so following “Numb.” The band also took home their first GRAMMY Award in the category of “Best Rock Performance” for “Crawling.”

Last week, Linkin Park transformed their website, LinkinPark.com, into a retro-style turn-of-the-century computer desktop full of folders and files. The site was updated daily to reveal new clues about the upcoming Hybrid Theory 20th Anniversary and culminated with the reveal of a video trailer on the site announcing the details of the release.

With 500,000+ Streams, ROOM 217 FOUNDATION’s Music Collections Help Canadians Struggling with Increased Anxiety, Depression

0

With a recent report from Mental Health Research Canada citing the rate of anxiety quadrupling in the wake of COVID-19, an increasing number of Canadians are seeking additional tools to ease their days. One such resource has been Canadian health arts organization Room 217 Foundation and the newly expanded release of their highly innovative non-pharmacological music care collections for digital streaming — available now.

Room 217 music is produced with defined therapeutic and artistic values, including familiar songs and sounds in comforting styles, 60-minute continuous play, with a mix of instrumental-only and albums with vocals — both gently arranged for up to six voices or instruments. Tempos are paced between 54 – 72 beats per minute to entrain with a resting heart rate, and the collections have been streamed upwards of 500,000 times since launching.

“Since we’ve been under social isolation rules, there has been all kinds of social chatter about people experiencing sleep disturbances, sadness, anxiety and depression,” says Room 217 Foundation Executive Director Bev Foster. “Living with these weights on our shoulders, especially as we are socially isolated from the people we love and who support us, is affecting many people’s mental health.

“Our library offers demonstrated relief for care providers, family members, frontline workers, and self-care alike.”

Initially designed as an accessible comfort tool in the resource kits of nursing and care staff, volunteers, hospices, palliative care units, long-term care and assisted living homes, Room 217’s increased availability offers unprecedented access for home and personal use within families.

A world leader in music care, Room 217’s expanded digital availability adds to already more than 45,000+ copies sold worldwide, and includes this season’s newest releases: Collection 3: Diverse Sounds, Collection 4: Boomer Tracks.

Also available are Collection 1: Soul Comfort and Collection 2: Memorable Moments. Each collection features six full-length albums.

“Room 217 Music Collections were initially designed to be a cost-effective comfort tool to meet the psychosocial and spiritual needs of persons in palliative and end-of-life care,” Foster shares. “We are forerunners in bringing the caregiver, especially the family caregiver as a vital care partner, into the music and health sector.

“Our Music Collections can be used in self-care, too — especially among those suffering forms of insomnia, burnout, compassion fatigue, or increased anxiety and depression.”

Her recommendations? “If you’re experiencing trouble sleeping, I’d start with Gentle Waters, British Invasion, or Lotus Blossom,” she offers. “My favourite for starting the day off is Road Trip, and Broadway Melodies, and Bamboo Garden is perfect if you’re trying to focus while working or reset in the afternoon.”

Promoting sleep and a general sense of peacefulness, Room 217 Music Collections have been proven to help alleviate agitation and anxiety, provide comfort and a distraction from pain, make eating more enjoyable, assist in closure and relationship completion, enhance communications through reminiscence, and more, as well as de-stress caregivers and make care and dying spaces beautiful.

Since its creation, Room 217 has dedicated itself to be a world- and industry-leader wholly focused on developing, producing and delivering research-informed music care products, education, training, and research.

“Music care is the intentional use of music by anyone to improve health and well-being,” Foster explains. “Music care integrates sound, silence and music into the circle of care, paying close attention to how interpersonal connection and human contact is enhanced through musical associations.

“I’ve been so encouraged by the number of videos shared since the start of COVID-19 featuring singing and music as a coping mechanism,” she continues. “In addition to tapping music for stress or emotional relief, it can be used to celebrate, feel connected, and as a means of expression.

“There’s even history on the use of music in other pandemics.”

Room 217 is a Canadian music-based health arts organization and social enterprise providing innovative approaches to well-being through a philosophy of music care. Collaborating with a top-notch team of skilled music educators, music therapists, music and health researchers, and community musicians and artists, the organization produces and delivers music care products, education, and training to help carers integrate music into their regular practice to enhance quality of life and improve the care experience.

In its 11 years of groundbreaking work, the impact Room 217 Foundation has had on those both receiving and providing care is immense. Through the development of numerous music care conferences, education platforms and products currently implemented within care settings across the country and around the world — including the Pathways Singing Program for dementia care, Conversation Cards for music sharing, Recollections for reminiscence, and Music Collections for palliative and end-of-life care — the Foundation is considered a national and international leader within the industry.

Room 217 Music Collections 1 – 4 are available now.

Buffalo Rocker ERIK EIMILLER Captures Fear, Paranoia & a New Wave Vibe in Debut Single, “Cross the Ocean” — Available Now!

0

“It was an amazing dream,” rocker and multi-instrumentalist Erik Eimiller says, setting the scene for how his debut 80s-esque new wave-vibe single, “Cross the Ocean” came to mind. “Vivid. Palpable.”

Okay, yes. Tell us more.

“It was like a full-on music video,” the Buffalo-based artist obliges, detailing his REM cycle. “The singer was running towards the camera, and running away from something terrifying, whatever it was, that was chasing him.

“The chorus for what would become ‘Cross the Ocean’ was blasting inside my subconsciousness, and the chord progression and melody line were ingrained in my mind as I awoke. I quickly grabbed my phone and recorded a voice message, humming the vocal line while clicking my teeth to the beat.

“I couldn’t quite remember all of the words, but I had what I needed.”

With much of the track locked in, the only elements remaining were the verses. Enter: COVID-19.

“A month after this dream, the pandemic strikes our world and the media coverage, naturally, is non-stop. Just 24/7, every news channel, every radio station… It’s just about impossible to block out.”

It was here that Eimiller — a life-long accomplished musician who’s played thousands of stages as a drummer — took a step to the side, observing the happenings from an empathetic and storytelling perspective, as he aims to do in his richly descriptive songwriting. “The coverage started to consume some people to the point of paranoia.

“I feel for those people because I understand that fear is real.

“Perhaps the only solution would be to ‘run away from the television’ because ‘you’ve got time to make yourself feel right’ — which is the chorus of the single. Once I realized the fear, the verses hit me like a ton of bricks.”

The video for “Cross the Ocean” serves as the perfect complement, and weaves the storyline and vibe together with striking visuals, colour processing, and overall mood. This, of course, is by no accident. “My sister Amy created the video, and she harnessed that nostalgic, yet futuristic feel with perfection,” Eimiller says of the song’s visual representation.

“Cross the Ocean” is available now.

Burning Man Meets Skate Park: Alt Rock EDM Toronto’s KRONIS Shatters Sonic Norms with “Against The World”

0

Canadian outfit KRONIS debuts their firm yet inventive footing on the fault line between alt rock and EDM with the release of their newest single, “It’s Time For Love,” and breakthrough album Against The World — both available now!

“I spent three years in the studio with Parker creating Against The World,” Toronto and Los Angeles, California-based frontman Aaron Kronis says, name checking mix engineer and producer Parker Ament of XLNTStudios. “We didn’t know what the title would be, or the number of tracks, but we knew we were onto something.”

That ‘something’ is alt rock streamed live with live guitars, live vocals, and Ableton. It’s guitars into cell phones while on hoverboards. It’s the essence of skateboarding at Burning Man channeled into a technologically enabled sonic sojourn spanning the ages.

“KRONIS has become the final evolution of a lead singer and an extraordinary guitar player who’s into electronic sounds and manipulations of waveforms to create something new that sounds familiar,” Kronis says. “And Against The World wholly captures the constant stamina required to endure this music industry based on my life in Los Angeles, and the world today.”

There’s a lot of moving pieces to the project, including contributions from musicians Matt Starr (Mr. Big, Ace Frehley), Chris Moore (RockOfAges Tour, Project Nfidelikah), and Andy Sansei (Missing Persons, Frankie Valli). There’s live performances at the links of the Viper Room, and features on KLOS Los Angeles and 102.1 The Edge with Alan Cross’ Ongoing History of New Music.

And there’s a lot more to come, Kronis adds. “We already have enough material for two or three more albums, so we’re just continuously working on tracks and live performance setups going forward.

‘Everything’s on a cob,” he continues, bringing his focus back to this Summer 2020’s debut LP, Against The World. “I mean, I watch just as much inter dimensional cable as the next guy, but this album seriously has zero compromises — and I never ever say that about a project.

“Why, though, for this one? Because it was my final say, and I gave the other artists involved the freedom to express themselves as they felt.

“It provided me with the best results imaginable.”

Hear just what that means on “It’s Time For Love” and Against The World. Both are available now.

Legendary Canadian Band HONEYMOON SUITE Hit Top 30 Rock Charts for First Time in 19 Years

0

36 years on, that headline above makes the fact all the more impressive. Canadian classic rockers Honeymoon Suite hope you “Find What You’re Looking For” in this, their newest single — available now!

The newest preview for the iconic band’s forthcoming album, “Find What You’re Looking For” has been eagerly ushered in by fans and critics alike, hitting the Top 30 rock charts in Canada in no time flat. It’s their first chart-climber in 19 years, and follows late 2019’s “Tell Me What You Want” — their first single release since 1992.

The two tracks lift the curtain, revealing the latest in what’s to come from the band who’ve long made themselves a household name. Early listens show the release has an unmistakably fresh energy to it, while still keeping true to the classic Honeymoon Suite sound fans have loved for nearly four decades.

First formed in 1981, Honeymoon Suite first broke onto the scene thanks to hit single “New Girl Now” taking the cake in a ‘Homegrown’ radio station contest put on by Toronto’s Q107. Founding members Johnnie Dee and Derry Grehan would soon be joined by Gary Lalonde, Dave Betts, and Peter Nunn, and go on to win a JUNO Award for ‘Group of the Year’, countless nominations, and continued International recognition over their near-40 years.

“Sometimes you just know when everything starts lining up, and sounding really good early on,” says Honeymoon Suite. “This new album will be the strongest new music we’ve released in a long time.”

“Find What You’re Looking For” is available now.

40,000+ Streams & 600+ Playlist Adds, Hamilton, ON’s Hip Hop/Popster TONYTONE’s New Single “Poppin” Is THE Summer Anthem

0

TonyTone has Summer 2020 “Poppin” with the release of his new single, an upbeat, modern hip hop track complete with heavy 808’s and catchy chorus melodies — available now!

“This track was meant and inspired to be a great party or event song for the summer,” the Hamilton-area artist says. “There’s influences from emo and cloud-style pop rap in there, as well as unique flute melodies.”

With over ~ 40,000 total streams across platforms, and included on upwards of 600+ Spotify playlists to date, the latest from TonyTone — aka Anthony Marzanek — falls seamlessly inline for his brand of lounge beats and an ambient moods that nod to both hip hop and indie influences, while staying pop-centric at its core.

TonyTone’s knack for the craft is easily apparent in breakout singles “Shaded” (2018), “Losing Control” (2019) and “Two Roses” (2019). Early 2020 saw the release of “Fade Away” and “Mental,” tracks with ~ 200,000 streams across platforms. “‘Fade Away’ is a good example of a track I wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered myself,” he says. “It was not meant to fall into any sort of genre… I just play around with sounds and write until I come up with something I like.

“I taught myself how to use recording software,” he recalls of his sleeves-rolled-up start. “Doing the production and mixing process makes me feel like I’m really in control during the creative process and final sound.”

“Poppin” is available now.
