Brisbane/Meanjin indie-folk rockers Cedarsmoke return with their third album, ‘Under The Rainbow,’ a kaleidoscopic exploration of emotion, colour, and renewal. Out today, the record dives deep into the psychology of colour, mapping the full emotional spectrum through ten vivid songs that blend organic warmth with electronic experimentation. Recorded at Incremental Studios with longtime collaborator Cam Smith, the album drifts between tender intimacy and textured disarray, with acoustic guitars, pianos, loops, and modular synths creating a soundscape as layered as the emotions it captures. “’Under The Rainbow’ is a concept album that interprets the emotional spectrum of colour through the lens of colour psychology,” says frontman Jon Cloumassis. “It marks our most ambitious step yet, blending organic instruments with electronic textures to create a palette as diverse and fluid as the colours it represents.”
Each track embodies a distinct hue and mood—from the sardonic black reflections of ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’ to the fiery rebirth of ‘Madame Psychosis’ and the serene white calm of closing track ‘Water.’ Tamala Wright’s ethereal vocals, Cloumassis’s wry lyricism, and the band’s evolving chemistry give life to a collection that feels both intimate and cinematic. Almost a decade into their journey, Cedarsmoke continue to uncover beauty in uncertainty and grace in the everyday, with ‘Under The Rainbow’ standing as their most cohesive and emotionally resonant statement yet.
