Band on the Run: Why Musicians Prefer Charter Flights to Commercial Flights

0

While life on the road may seem like all fun to many people, the realities of playing successive dates in different cities can wear out performers. One way to provide at least some respite is to avoid commercial flights and travel by private flights, How does this make for a better arrangement? Here are four examples to keep in mind.

Fewer Time Constraints

Charter flights make it much easier to tailor a departure and arrival schedule that fits in with the performance schedule. Instead of attempting to structure things around a commercial flight, everyone involved in the concerts can be on the way when they choose. If the crew needs to go ahead and prepare an arena or stage, that’s fine. The musicians can finish up with tonight’s performance, jump into a waiting vehicle, head to the airport, and be on the way to the next city without any delays.

Avoiding Crowds at the Airport

Musicians do enjoy meeting fans, but there’s a time and place for everything. Right after a show, the adrenaline high will only last so long before the band needs some peace and quiet. Opting for a charter flight provides a setting in which it’s possible to avoid the crowds found at most airports. This makes it all the easier to recharge and be ready for any personal appearances, interviews, or meeting with fans that may be coming up the following day.

The Potential for Rest During the Flight

Sleep can be elusive during a tour. At some point, a lack of rest will catch up with everyone. While it may be possible to get some sleep at the hotel, even a nap while traveling from one location to the next can help. Thanks to the amount of privacy and relative quiet that’s found on a charter flight, the odds of being able to take a nap are much better. Even if the flight only lasts for an hour or so, a little sleep can make a big difference.

Need to Rehearse or Discuss the Next Show? That’s Fine!

There are times when the charter flight provides some time to discuss the last show, what went right, and what could be improved. This type of discussion can make it easier to plan for the next rehearsal and ensure the band is happier with the next appearance.

There may even be a little rehearsal while the musicians are in the air. With no one on the charter flight but those who are directly involved with the tour, it’s easy enough to pull out a guitar and run through some of the set list if desired. By the time the charter lands, quite a bit is accomplished and the musicians feel better prepared for the next show.

The bottom line is that traveling musicians can utilize the setting for a charter flight in ways that would be impossible on a commercial one. In terms of providing a place to sleep, plan, or just get away from the madness that is often associated with touring, it’s hard to beat this solution. After opting for this approach to travel, the idea of booking commercial flights will definitely be off the table.

Gaming Headphones: Better Than Regular Headphones?

0

There’s “gaming” versions of almost every product out there, and a lot of them treat it like a gimmick or branding tool, but that’s not always the case. Modern videogames rely on sound, meaning that many gaming headphones provide a much higher level of sound quality then you might expect. But are they worth picking up compared to the normal variety, or are they still more of a gimmick product if you’re not a massive fan of gaming in general?

Style

The visual style of some headphones obviously won’t affect their quality all that much, but it’s hard to just ignore the differences in design. Some have built-in pulsing lights and large, fancy shapes whereas others are streamlined to be as dark and low-profile as possible, but all of them have a particular niche that they can fit into. If you want headphones with lava-coloured orange lights that fade in and out, you can get them! On the other hand, if you want something that looks professional and sleek, that’s an option too!

Not everybody will care about this, of course, but there’s a large subset of people who want to be sure that their headphones match their clothing. Even better, most gaming headphones aren’t actually branded in a way that makes it clear that they’re gaming headphones: there’s very few that contain any gaming references whatsoever, apart from maybe a small graphic of the manufacturer’s logo.

Connection Types

Very few gaming headphones are exclusive to a single connection method. Many will use USB connections, especially if they’re built for PC gamers, but that isn’t the only choice out there. For example, some PS4 gaming headphones have connections that would work with other mobile devices, and more still are completely wireless headphones that can be linked to a wide range of devices.

The benefits of this are easy enough to understand: PS4 headphones, just like any headphones, can be connected to almost anything that has the right kind of port, so you’re no more limited than if you bought regular music or video-watching headphones.

Microphones

A lot of gaming headphones come with their own microphones, mainly the larger PC-focused designs. In almost every case, you can fold this microphone up against the side of the headphone’s main body to get it out of the way, but having that option can come in handy more often than you might think. For example, if you regularly take important phone calls while listening to music on your mobile device, having a microphone can drastically increase the quality of your voice and make you easier to understand.

Microphones are also a useful option for plenty of other purposes: leaving voicemails, recording audio reminders for yourself, practicing hobbies like singing or even just adding to the aesthetics of your outfit.

Audio Quality

Audio quality in gaming headphones is usually at least slightly higher than non-gaming headphone styles, with some companies creating insanely high-quality headphones that provide incredible audio fidelity. A large part of this is due to the fact that many modern games use sound as part of the experience, so companies are generally pushed to try and create headphones that can live up to those standards.

Unlike regular music headphones, gaming headphones also have a high chance of either blocking out sound, preventing the audio from leading out to people around you, or both. This can be good if you’re wanting to make sure that you’re not disturbing other people, and can make it much easier to listen to music or other types of entertainment without having it covered up with background noise.

Volume Adjustments

One of the most overlooked features of gaming headphones is the ability to adjust the volume. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a button-based system or a dial that you can turn – a lot of gaming headphones have some kind of tool in place to let you adjust how loud the audio is, as well as a way to mute the microphone (if it has one) or even temporarily “deafen” them by turning off any incoming audio entirely. This can all be extremely convenient and adds another layer of usability, especially if you’re planning to use them at work or in another situation where you’ll have to suddenly pause the audio to handle something else.

Out Of State Moving Tips

0

The most certain thing about life is change. This doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re always prepared for it. This said, moving from one state to another can’t be easy on you, whether it’s for a good course or not. Leaving behind familiarity; the friends, the mall, the street, the nice lad at the ice cream shop, your co-worker… the list is endless. They are small things, but they mean everything. They mean home. However, as we said, one thing is constant: change.

To upgrade your life, you might need to move to another dwelling in another state, perhaps to get closer to a new, better-paying job, to progress your career, getting closer to loved ones, you name it. A move to another state is warranted by something indispensable, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt to leave things and people we’re attached to behind. The practicality of it can also be very strenuous. This is why we bring you the 6 top tips sure to give you the smoothest move. Here they are, in sequential order:

1. What It Means To Move Out Of State

Since moving out of state can be laborious, denial could make you think it’s a simple process that involves relocating to a different place. It is far from that. To make you understand what this is about firsthand, here is a list of questions to juggle through your mind. These will help to alert you what the process is about, make you serious enough about it so that in following the tips, you can be extremely thorough:

  • How Far From Your State Is The New Location?
  • How much does it cost to move out of state?
  • Where Are You Going To Live?
  • Do You Have A Job As A Means Of Sustenance In The New State?
  • How Much Time Do You Have Before You Can Start The Job?
  • What Will Your Budget Allow You To Bring With You?
  • What Do You Pack, What Do You Leave Behind?
  • If You Have Kids, Are You Taking Them With You? What About School?
  • Can You Manage Heavy Lifting, Or Would You Like To Put Someone Else In Charge Of Moving?
  • How Do You Settle In?
  • Oh! What About The Car?

2. Research, Research, Research!

We cannot emphasize more on the power of knowing the new vicinity as much as possible. Go online, look at the new state. What is the culture there? How much taxes will you pay? Can you handle the climate? Take a ride to the state and experience it firsthand so that you can be familiar with the kind of environment you are moving to and be steadfast in your decision. If you’re moving with a family, you need to be sure that the move doesn’t destroy their lives. If your spouse has a business, for example, will it still thrive in the news state? How are the schools there, do they offer the programs your child is currently enrolled in? These and many more questions will make sure that you know the kind of life you’ll have once you move.

3. Identify A New Place To Live In

Now that you know that you can handle the new environment, where are you moving to? The city or the outskirts of the city? Are you going to rent an apartment, buy a house, or live in a provided place? There are many things to consider when looking for a house. Some of these include its size, security, and proximity to your job, cost, and so much more. You cannot shift your belonging unless you have a place to place them. This said this step is critical.

4. Come Up With A Moving Plan

Sit down, clear your mind of any distractions, and focus on an intricate moving plan. Identify the things you’ll move with and the ones to leave behind. The mechanism of packing them in an orderly manner to make it easier to offload after settling in, as well as the means of transport to use when moving them to the new location depending on how far it is. Come up with a detailed budget on how much money you have set aside for the move and how to distribute spending. You can do this by requesting a quote from a list of moving companies to see roughly how much you’re going to spend. Depending on the number of boxes expected, can you manage, or do you need help from long distance movers?

5. Follow The Plan

First, after knowing what to pack and what to leave behind, pack up the things you’re taking along with you in proper order. Purge the belonging you feel can be left behind and donate or give them to a friend. Get in touch with your decided travel option and Moving company, if any. Monitor the process to ensure everything is packed properly, and on budget. Be sure to save all the receipts. Finally, ensure your accounts are updated, your mail is forwarded, and all your friends know you are moving.

6. Settling In

After everything is safe in your new home, take in a breath, sleep on it, and begin unpacking as per the order in your plan. Ensure a process is followed to detect any missing items. After unpacking, to be on the right side of the law, obtain your licenses, the driving license, and pet license if applicable.

Moving in might be hard, but with these six tips, the ride will be smoother than you could ever expect!

Jazz Pop Artist Katie Ditschun is Live on Facebook Every Friday Offering Virtual Music

0

Canadian jazz pop artist Katie Ditschun is going live online weekly, offering complimentary virtual music lessons for those looking to optimize a rise in screen time by developing their sonic skill sets.

The lessons are every Friday at 11:00 a.m. EST on Ditschun’s Facebook page; they are geared towards beginners and focus solely on singing — no instruments are required.

How cool, right? If you or a family member ever wanted to learn to play music, here’s your chance, for FREE! Let’s face it, we have some time on our hands and have access to this Facebook site you might have heard about, so why not?

With a world reacting to the novel coronavirus outbreak, Ditschun is hoping both her at-home music lessons in a live, “social” setting — plus her newly released single, “Here We Are” — can offer respite for audience members navigating the world’s new circumstance from a place of increased isolation.

“There’s something about being in the moment when the music is all there is…” says the classically trained musician at both Berklee College of Music and the Royal Conservatory of Music, plus 2014 Independent Teacher Fellowship Award recipient. She holds over 20 years experience in teaching, and is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association. “For me, all life’s worries melt away and I’m left only concerned about what phrase comes next and letting the notes float out.

“It’s my hope that my online music lessons can offer even just a bit of that for others in this challenging time.”

Written and recorded last year, “long before we got to this place,” Ditschun says of the single, “Here We Are” is one of 10 via her debut LP, Spare Skirt.

“The song speaks to the feeling that there’s some distance between what your life is and how you thought it would turn out, who you thought you’d become, or where you thought you’d be,” she notes. “Now more than ever, we’re all finding ourselves with plans pushed aside, and wondering how do we go on like this, and for how long.

“Feeling the weight of our current reality, we need reminders that we’ll get through this together.”

Spare Skirt and “Here We Are” are available now.

Liam Gallagher’s ‘MTV Unplugged’ Live Album Out April 24

0

Last summer Liam Gallagher joined the list of all-time greats (Paul McCartney, Page and Plant, Nirvana and many more) who have filmed a prestigious MTV Unplugged session. Having missed Oasis’s 1996 session through illness, the show at Hull’s City Hall found Liam fulfilling some unfinished business entirely on his own terms.

Now Liam is set to release the ‘MTV Unplugged’ live album of the show on April 24th.

The show’s electrifying atmosphere is palpable from the very beginning with a phenomenal reaction as Liam takes to the stage with ‘Wall of Glass’. Material from Liam’s solo career such as his personal favourite ‘Once’ and the joyous ‘Now That I’ve Found You’ resonates in this stripped-back format, with his vocal shining alongside a trio of backing singers and string arrangements performed by the 24-piece Urban Soul Orchestra.

Oasis guitarist Bonehead features on performances of ‘Some Might Say’, ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Cast No Shadow’ and Liam’s first ever live vocal performance of the ‘Definitely Maybe’ bonus track ‘Sad Song’. The show concludes on a crowd-pleasing high with an emotive take on the classic ‘Champagne Supernova’.

Liam launches the ‘MTV Unplugged’ album by sharing the new version of ‘Gone’, which was one of the strongest performances of the night. Stripped of the force of the studio recording, ‘Gone’ instead reveals new-found bombastic dynamics and an evocative cinematic atmosphere.

Bee Gees Vinyl Reissue Series To Be Released On May 8

0

On May 8, Capitol/UMe is set to release five remastered LPs from the storied catalog of the Bee Gees, one of music’s most legendary and acclaimed groups. Each LP has been pressed onto both black vinyl and limited-edition colored vinyl. The five LPs are, in chronological order, 1969’s Best Of Bee Gees (on black and berry vinyl), 1975’s Main Course (on black and whitewater vinyl), 1976’s Children Of The World (on black and sunshine yellow vinyl), 1977’s double live album Here At Last…Bee Gees…Live (2LPs on black and tangerine vinyl), and 1979’s Spirits Having Flown (on black and blood red vinyl). All five albums have been remastered from the original analog LP master tapes at the iconic Capitol Studios by Kevin Bartley and Ian Sefchick.

The Bee Gees’ first greatest hits compilation, Best Of Bee Gees, was released in June 1969, and it features a prime selection of the early hit singles that established the group’s broad musical palette. The twelve gems comprising Best Of are among the most popular songs of the then-burgeoning group’s canon, including the desperately pleading “I Gotta Get A Message To You,” Sir Barry’s classic balladry vocal on “Words,” the harmoniously soulful classic “To Love Somebody,” the pure pop perfection of “Massachusetts,” Robin’s signature vocal on “I Started A Joke,” and the skillful buildup of “Spicks and Specks,” the latter song being the Bee Gees’ first-ever No. 1 record in their homeland of Australia.

June 1975’s Main Course, one of the most significant albums in the Bee Gees catalog, marked a new direction for the group, and in turn created the model for their output throughout the rest of the 1970s by featuring a fresh, R&B-meets-pop sound. Recorded in Miami, Florida, and produced by the legendary Arif Mardin, the album’s infectious No. 1 hit, “Jive Talkin’,” carries a rhythm inspired by the sound the group’s car made on the 163rd Street Causeway Bridge as they drove to and from the recording sessions being held at the fabled Criteria Studios. With Main Course, Mardin and the Gibb brothers continued to explore the use of synthesizers instead of strings in their arrangements. It’s also the first album where Barry Gibb’s hallmark falsetto is most prominent, showcasing the impressive depth of his vocal range. The album’s other hit singles include the dramatic “Nights On Broadway” and the always touching “Fanny (Be Tender With My Love).”

The first single from the Bee Gees’ next album, September 1976’s Children Of The World, “You Should Be Dancing,” went to No. 1 in both the U.S. and Canada, and was also a Top 10 smash in numerous other territories. Children Of The World, which attained certified multi-platinum status in the U.S., was also recorded at Miami’s Criteria Studios, albeit this time produced by the Bee Gees, Karl Richardson, and Albhy Galuten. The album’s other key singles include the uplifting ballad “Love So Right,” the provocatively seductive “Boogie Child,” and the harmony-and-synth-driven title track.

Released in May 1977Here At Last…Bee Gees…Live, the group’s first live album, was recorded at The Forum in Los Angeles in December 1976. The majority of this palpable 2LP set was made up of songs that had been big hit singles for the Bee Gees, along with tracks from their aforementioned recent hit albums, Main Course and Children Of The World. Highlighting the group’s magical harmonic vocal blend onstage, Here At Last contains definitive live versions of “You Should Be Dancing,” “Jive Talkin’,” “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” “I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You,” “New York Mining Disaster 1941,” “Run To Me,” and many more.

Spirits Having Flown, the 15th Bee Gees album, was released in January 1979, and was the group’s first album following the massive success of 1977’s multi-platinum Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The first three tracks released from Spirits Having Flown — “Tragedy,” “Too Much Heaven,” and “Love You Inside Out” — all shot to No. 1 in the U.S., giving the Bee Gees an unbroken run of six U.S. chart-toppers in a one-year period. In addition, the Bee Gees donated the copyright of “Too Much Heaven” to Music For UNICEF, a charity they founded along with their longtime Manager Robert Stigwood and Sir David Frost. Spirits was a No. 1 album for the Bee Gees in the U.K. and topped the charts around the world. The album was recorded at the group’s favored Criteria Studios in Miami, where Chicago was simultaneously recording their own hit album, October 1978’s Hot Streets. The two groups wound up collaborating on Chicago’s “Little Miss Loving,” while Chicago’s lauded horn section guested on select Spirits Having Flown tracks.

The Bee Gees — brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, one of the most successful songwriting teams of all time — have long earned their stature as one of the world’s most popular and bestselling groups ever. Having recorded 22 studio albums and for numerous soundtracks, including November 1977’s monumentally successful Saturday Night Fever, the Bee Gees infused popular culture with dozens of worldwide hit singles that featured their singular and highly influential three-part harmonies. They achieved nine Number Ones and 23 Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including “How Deep Is Your Love,” “Night Fever,” and “Stayin’ Alive” from Saturday Night Fever, in addition to hitting charts around the world with many other classics, including “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” “I Started A Joke,” “Lonely Days,” “Words,” and “You Win Again.”

Among the honors bestowed upon the Bee Gees are eight GRAMMY Awards®, including The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award and Legend Award; five American Music Awards; a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music; and a Legend Award from the World Music Awards. The Bee Gees have also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, BMI Icons, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and the Dance Music Hall of Fame. All three brothers were honored with a CBE as Commanders of the British Empire in 2002, and Barry was knighted ‘Sir Barry Gibb‘ in 2018.
