Guelph, ON Teen Alt Pop / EDM Prodigy Mikalyn Lands Global Remix for Single “Close”
Canadian dark-pop/alt prodigy Mikalyn Hay — and co-write partner EDM and pop artist Xtro (Chris Graham) — has dusted off an earlier fave for a fresh remix with a global vibe in “Close” — available now!
Discovered by International label and management outpost Reven, “Close feat. Mikalyn & Xtro” was reimagined by Brazilian bass/future/tech house artist RQntz (Requintes) and Russian EDM duo 39 Kingdom for the Spring 2020 release.

“‘Close’ was a very fun song to write,” Mikalyn recalls of the track’s creative process some two+ years ago. Hay and Graham — who were 16 at the time — collaborated for a six-track EP, Love Again where the original version of “Close” was featured. “Chris and I have written many songs and this one started out the same way all of them do: alternating between our makeshift home basement studios, mine in Guelph and his in Toronto.
“For ‘Close,’ we had been freestyling around the line ‘close to me’ and, once we had the song fully written, I knew it was my favourite,” she continues. “It’s been so cool seeing where the song started, and comparing it to what it’s become. It’s crazy.”

Iron Maiden Announce Remastered Live Collection
Parlophone Records will continue their reissues series of the IRON MAIDEN catalogue with a fifth set of Digipak CD titles in The Live Collection – Remastered, to be released on June 19th. The albums included in this release are the seminal live recordings Live After Death and Rock In Rio.
Live After Death was recorded at Long Beach Arena, California in March 1985 on the band’s legendary year-long World Slavery Tour which started in Poland in August 1984. It comprised 187 shows around the globe and turned Iron Maiden into one of the biggest bands on the planet. The album, which also features additional tracks recorded at London’s Hammersmith Apollo, is widely regarded as one of the greatest live albums of all time.
Rock In Rio was recorded on 19th January 2001, on the final night of Iron Maiden’s Brave New World Tour. The performance was in front of 100,000 fans and was subsequently broadcast globally on TV.
The Live Collection – Remastered follows on from the recent releases of The Studio Collection – Remastered, a four-part series of releases covering their entire sixteen-strong studio album back catalogue. The albums feature the audio taken from the 2015 Mastered for iTunes project and the new collections are the first time these versions are available on CD.
As a bonus for collectors, one CD from each batch of releases is optionally available in a specially artwork designed box featuring a 1:24 scale figurine and exclusive patch. In this fifth batch, this will be Live After Death.

Alt.folk Saint John, NB’s Kylie Fox is sharing what was initially penned as a heartfelt wedding gift with this, the release of her new single “Cool Feet” — available now!
“I wanted to write a song for my friend’s wedding,” Fox shares of the track’s origins. “I didn’t want to write ‘just another’ love song, I wanted to write their love song.
“I called the groom and gave him an interview,” she continues. “I was seeking some strange, obscure sentimentality in his answers, and I got it: he’s a fisherman, so I asked ‘when you are tired and uncomfortable at work, what do you miss about my friend?’
“He said ‘her cold feet.’
“So… I set out to write a song about my friend’s feet, but changed his answer to ‘cool’ because,” she laughs, quite rightly pointing out, “you shouldn’t sing about ‘cold feet’ at a wedding.”
It would be hard to sum Fox’s unique brand of song-based storytelling up with any other anecdote; “Cool Feet” is a fitting example of her sentimental soft-spot effortless intertwining with quick wit, signature sarcasm, and inherent empathy.
The second available off her forthcoming LP, Green, “Cool Feet” sets the tone for what’s to come following her 2017 breakout EP, BalconyEP. “I recorded with Dale in his remote Nova Scotian farm house,” Fox recalls of laying Green with East Coast Music Award-winning producer Dale Murray. “I would drive over from Saint John and stay for a night or two at a time throughout the summer to work on it.
“Dale’s wife (and fellow ECMA-winning artist) Christina Martin is an insane cook. I would relish in the opportunity to ask them about bizarre touring stories and professional advice while we shared meals and a bottle of wine at the end of a work day. Christina even bought fireworks for the session drummer’s birthday…

Bruce Cockburn Announces ‘True North – A 50th Anniversary Box Set’
To be active and relevant in music for 50 years is a significant achievement for any individual recording artist. The same can be said for any independent record label. To achieve this milestone together as an artist and label team without interruption, has to be one of the most extraordinarily rare events in music.
To celebrate this milestone, Bruce Cockburn and True North Records have produced True North – A 50th Anniversary Box Set, a Limited Edition vinyl box set containing three of Bruce’s most significant recordings. You can pre=order it here. The first album where it all started, the self-titled debut Bruce Cockburn along with two albums that have never before been released on vinyl; The Charity of Night and Breakfast in New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu. Each album has been re-mastered by Bruce’s long-time producer Colin Linden, and is pressed on coloured vinyl. The five-180 gram discs are contained in original artwork sleeves adapted from the original designs by the acclaimed graphic designer Michael Wrycraft, and housed in an individually numbered box signed personally by the artist. There will be only a limited initial pressing.
Bruce Cockburn was the first artist signed to True North Records, the tenacious independent label founded by Bruce’s manager Bernie Finkelstein and first operated from a Yorkville Avenue phone booth. Bruce’s debut self titled album was the label’s first album release on April 7, 1970, produced by Eugene Martynec, with the catalog number TN1. Fifty years on, Bruce Cockburn still records for True North Records, which released his 34th album “Crowing Ignites” in late 2019.
Bruce says, “In 1969, when I was feeling the need to record an album of the songs I’d been writing, I had no concept of what that might lead to. In some organic way it felt like it was time. The future wasn’t really an issue. It still isn’t. For each of us, there’s a future or there isn’t.
“But looking back over the arc of 50 years of recording, performing, and travel, not to mention relationships and personal challenges,” he continued, “I can only shake my head and mutter a word of thanks for all of it.”
Cockburn concluded: “Even if I’d been a planner by nature, I doubt I could have predicted how things have gone… and they’re still going!”
