Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets Announce Live At The Roundhouse Out April 17

0

Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment is proud to announce the release of Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets Live At The Roundhouse, an extraordinary all-new concert recording featuring an array of Pink Floyd classics rarely performed by the band during its lifetime. The 22-track collection arrives April 17 as a double-CD/DVD package, double-vinyl, and on Blu-ray; pre-orders are available now.

Also, in collaboration with Trafalgar Releasing and Sony Music Entertainment, Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets Live At The Roundhouse will be coming to cinemas in selected cities worldwide for one night only on March 10, 2020. This theatrical event will also include a pre-recorded cinema exclusive Q&A with Nick Mason and the band where they will answer questions submitted by fans.

Nick Mason – founding drummer and the only constant member of Pink Floyd since their 1965 formation – united Gary Kemp (guitar, vocals), Guy Pratt (bass, vocals), Lee Harris (guitar), and Dom Beken (keyboards) as Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets in 2018, fueled in part by the desire to perform the legendary band’s pre-Dark Side of the Moon material, timeless songs which had not been played on stage in decades.

An invitation-only performance at London’s Dingwalls was met by rapturous acclaim and followed by a sold out theatre tour of North AmericaEurope, and the United Kingdom. The band returned in 2019, including two sold out May shows at The Roundhouse – the historic Camden venue where Pink Floyd famously played on October 15, 1966, teaming with Soft Machine for an “All Night Rave” launching the famed underground newspaper, International Times.

Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets Live At The Roundhouse captures what has proven a remarkable band all its own, infusing archetypal Floyd favorites with infectious passion, great power, and subtle restraint. From the garage band attack of “Arnold Layne” and “Vegetable Man” to the psychedelic journeying of “Interstellar Overdrive” and the mellow expanse of “Atom Heart Mother,” “Fearless,” and “Green Is the Colour,” Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets Live At The Roundhouse brings to life music rarely heard onstage since Pink Floyd’s halcyon first era, thrillingly revived for a new generation.

Mason – who last year was named as a “Prog God” at Prog Magazine‘s prestigious Progressive Music Awards in London, joining the ranks of such previously honored icons as Peter GabrielTony BanksJon AndersonRick WakemanIan AndersonCarl Palmer, and Steve Howe – will soon return to the road with Saucerful Of Secrets for the band’s biggest tour schedule thus far. The “More Games For May Tour” – which takes its name from Pink Floyd’s milestone 1967 concert at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall – begins this April with UK dates and a European run that includes visits to BelgiumLuxembourgGermanyFranceAustriaCzech RepublicDenmark, and the Netherlands. North American dates will be announced soon – for updates and more, please visit www.thesaucerfulofsecrets.com.

Cheap Men’s Watch Brands For Starter Watches

0

Any man will come to a point where he needs a good starter watch. A starter watch is the first good watch for any person, be it in mechanical or quartz movement. This watch is the watch they’ll treasure forever, and it will hold quite the emotional value for them. Statistics show that most men will have a starter watch at the age of 15 to 16.

If you have a son or a daughter, for that matter, who you want to share your passion for watches with, or you want to have a great watch, we’ve collated the best starter watch from cheap watch brands in this article. With these brands, you don’t have to shell out thousands of dollars to get a beautiful timepiece.

Timex

Timex has been around the industry for quite some time, and they have never come out with a watch that did not impress. You can get an automatic movement from the brand in less than $300, but the quartz chronograph option is a better alternative if we’re going to be honest. You’ll need to decide first if you want your kid to have a mechanical or quartz watch, in this instance.

But when you do decide, a classic Timex piece should do the job. The Waterbury Traditional is a great-looking watch to start. It has the simplicity of an analog watch paired with the bells and whistles of a chronograph. It feels substantial on the wrist as well, and that will put more weight on your child’s mind. No wonder it’s constantly voted as one of the best wrist watch brands.

Seiko

Never heard of Seiko? Well, you’re in for luck. Seiko is a Japanese watch brand that revolutionized the industry by introducing the quartz movement. Since then, the movement took off, and it’s the most profitable watch movement in the world today. What most people fail to realize though, is that Seiko produces great automatic watches too.

And they do great mechanical watches with automatic movement. If you want the feel and look of a Rolex with the detail and attention that only the Japanese can do, knock yourself out with a 5 Sports watch from the brand. The line is stylish, cosmopolitan, and most importantly, accessible. For no more than $250, you can get your child his starter mechanical watch.

Apple

Apple is not a watch company per se, but with its smartwatch series, the company has placed itself in a position that all the other smartwatch companies are envious of. The Apple Watch Series 5 is as good a smartwatch can get. It starts at around $300, and best believe you’re getting a ton of features for it.

If your kid has an iPhone, it’s a no-brainer that you get him an Apple Watch. They’ll probably recognize it from the get-go, so you’ll earn Daddy or Mommy points for it. It’s trendy, for sure, but the insides and make of it are worth its price. Trust us when we say, this watch is the safest bet when you want to see your kid truly light up.

Casio

Another Japanese watch company that produces quality watches without the astronomical pricing, Casio has been the stalwart of digital watches since the concept took off. Today, Casio is known for its G-Shock line of rugged watches. A G-shock or a Baby G may be the perfect starter watch for your kid – it’s ostentatious enough for them to humblebrag it, but also tough enough for daily wear and tear.

Takeaway

A starter watch needs to have enough emotional weight to be treasured. For parents, you don’t need to buy your kids luxury mechanical watches as they probably won’t appreciate the value of it when they’re still that young. Get them one of these recommendations instead, and you’re good to go.

Bruce Cockburn Announces 50th Anniversary Shows

0

Is it really fifty years ago that Bruce Cockburn’s first album came out?

Indeed, it is. His eponymous titled album which included “Going To The Country” and “Musical Friends” was released on April 7, 1970. Coincidentally it was also the first album released by True North records. TN 1 was its catalogue number.

Although mostly recorded in late 1969 the first album hit the stores and airwaves in 1970 and started the long, long journey that continues to this day.

Here’s what Bruce has to say:

“In 1969, when I was feeling the need to record an album of the songs I’d been writing, I had no concept of what that might lead to. Not unusual for a young person, I guess. In some organic way it felt like it was time. The future wasn’t really an issue. It still isn’t. For each of us, there’s a future or there isn’t. But looking back over the arc of fifty years of recording, performing, and travel, not to mention relationships and personal challenges, I can only shake my head and mutter a word of thanks for all of it. Even if I’d been a planner by nature, I doubt I could have predicted how things have gone. And they’re still going!”

Bruce has now released 34 albums and played thousands of concerts around the world, something that he continues to do to this day.

Canadian Matriarch of the Blues and International Hall of Fame DALANNAH GAIL BOWEN Releases New Single & Video “Somebody’s Watchin’ You”! 👀

0

Canadian matriarch of the blues and veritable force of musical nature, Vancouver-based Dalannah Gail Bowen says “Somebody’s Watchin’ You” in newly minted single and video, available now.

The release is the latest to come from her fifth and most recent studio album Looking Back, out via Quest Records and with support from Creative BC and the Province of British Columbia.

Born of African-Canadian and Cherokee heritage, Bowen’s indisputable prowess as a prolific singer, songwriter, actress, playwright, storyteller, event producer, social activist, International Memphis Blues Awards semi-finalist and International Blues Hall of Fame Master Blues Artist has secured her standing as a fixture of the blues, rock and soul music-making scene for over 40 years.

Canadian Musician Magazine says she “has a truly spectacular set of pipes, and a most commanding stage presence,” before adding that Bowen “has one of those voices that lays claim to part of your soul the first time you hear it, and never lets go.

“Smoky. Earthy. Soulful. Powerful. But it’s not just the voice, it’s what she does with it. So much emotion. So much control.”

Critics and colleagues across the board have long been ones to agree; an in-demand vocalist, she has performed alongside or opened for the likes of Led Zeppelin, B.B. King, Willie Dixon, as well as The Monkees and The Guess Who during her time with all-female group, The Feminine Touch.

Downbeat Magazine named her 2015 release Been Around A While one of the top blues albums of the year, and that year she was inducted into the International Blues Hall of Fame as a Master Artist. Releases Mamma’s Got The Blues and Them Menz were also released to international critical acclaim, and she can also be heard in a wide range of musical collaborations, including traditional drum group The Snowy Owl Drummers, tribute collective to the world-renowned gospel singer in Songs of Mahalia Jackson, and East Van Morrison, a jazz group performing selections from Van Morrison’s repertoire.

It’s efforts like these that awarded her “The Key to The City” and have December 11th officially declared “Dalannah Gail Bowen Day” by Vancouver’s Mayor and Council.

All this to say there have long been many facets of Dalannah Gail Bowen to shine, and they all share a common spark, joy, determination and fire towards her womanhood and craft.

The new release, Looking Back, takes the dynamic artist’s work in a new direction, with the music drawing more heavily from Bowen’s own and more personal story.

“The album also takes a hard look back at our world, and our cultures,” Bowen adds of the genesis behind Looking Back. “It takes a look towards our future, too.”

Produced by Michael Creber, Looking Back was recorded at Vancouver’s Monarch Studios and Warehouse Studio on classic mics seemingly designed to capture Bowen’s rich, arresting vox.

The album features a veritable who’s who of the area’s local music scene, including Jim Byrnes, The Sorjourners, Tom Keenleyside, Andreas Schuld, Chris Nordquist, Miles Hill, Olaf de Shield, Brian Newcombe, and Rob Becker.

“We could have probably called it ‘How We Spent Our Summer’,” she laughs, recalling the release’s recording process. “We more or less missed hitting the beach, but our studio tans looked great!

“And wait ‘till you hear what we put down.”

You don’t have to wait much beyond this line… Looking Back and “Somebody’s Watchin’ You” are available now.
