Warner Music Canada recording artist Jim Cuddy has released the video of an intimate solo acoustic performance of “The Light That Guides You Home” filmed in his downtown Toronto home. The song is taken from Jim’s latest album, Countrywide Soul, on which he reimagines previously released solo material as well as Blue Rodeo songs. The set also includes two new songs and covers of Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” and George Jones’ “Almost Persuaded.” “The Light That Guides You Home” was originally released on Cuddy’s 2006 album of the same name.

5 Famous Musicians Who Have Battled Drug and Alcohol Addiction

0

ou may know the songs by musicians who struggled with drug or alcohol addiction. And you’ve probably heard of the 27 club, consists of 27-years old musicians, artists, actors, many of whom died of an overdose. However, there are still inspiring examples of talented people who didn’t give up, kept fighting, and finally won. There are five stories of five iconic musicians who are clean now and happy to live a new life.

Adele

In her biography, Marc Shapiro describes the fact of Adele’s alcohol addiction in great detail. At the very beginning of her career, Adele was anxious about the way she looked on stage and, for courage, began to drink before the shows. Silently, this habit turned into a real problem.

The critical moment was the case when the drunk Adele forgot the words of her song while being on stage at that time. She was so drunk that she forgot the words of her own songs.

Instead of immediately typing “inpatient drug rehab near me” on Google, she literally became a housewife, starting to live a reclusive, homely life. However, it did not help – Adele’s alcohol abuse only deepened. Everything was aggravated by the fact that her father, in his time, also loved to drink.

Finally, in 2011, after a vocal surgery and the birth of her son, she quit drinking and smoking. Now she leads a healthy life and doesn’t drink more than two glasses of wine a week.

Eminem

The musician managed to overcome a heavy addiction to a whole cocktail of different drugs – including Valium and Vicodin, which he was doing for almost six years, starting in 2002.

In 2005, Eminem tried to undergo treatment at an inpatient drug rehab, but after the death of his best friend fell into a depression and started doing drugs. At the end of 2007, he barely survived an almost fatal overdose of methadone, and only after that, the rapper found the strength to engage in a habit.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Eminem said that in order to defeat the addiction, he started to run, and also talked with other people who had similar experiences – he even got friends with Elton John.

“I also started running like a fucking maniac. Seventeen miles a day, every day. Just replacing one addiction with another. I had days where I could hardly walk.”

Elton John

At first, drugs caused Elton John a surge of confidence and euphoria, but over time, his addiction intensified and it became more difficult to cope with the negative consequences. In 1983, after filming the clip I’m Still Standing, he woke up with trembling hands and did not remember he had stripped naked the day before, had beaten his manager John Reed, and had destroyed a room in the hotel.

In one of Elton John’s recent biographies, the song I’m Still Standing is called the musician’s sobriety anthem. Still, he actually got rid of his addiction only seven years after its release.

The man who could reach Elton John’s mind was his then-boyfriend Hugh Williams. In July 1990, Elton went to a drug rehab inpatient center in Chicago and had not been taking drugs for 29 years. During this time, he returned to his musical career, married film producer David Furnish, composed the soundtracks for the movie The Lion King and the musical Billy Elliot and became the father of two children.

Steven Tyler

As many may know, Steven Tyler spent $6 000 000 on cocaine when he struggled with addiction. Being a teen, Steven started doing drugs and got kicked out the college because of the addiction. However, the young man did not draw conclusions and did not exclude illegal substances from his life.

In the late 60s, Tyler met with young talented musicians – Tom Hamilton and Joe Perry. In 1970 they founded the musical band Aerosmith. Despite the fact that Aerosmith successfully toured and assembled full concert halls, the band had serious problems arising from the musicians’ excessive addiction to drugs. The members of the team did not hesitate to go out in public on drugs and even disrupt the performances.

In the late 70s, the band was on the verge of collapse. The musicians were exhausted by the constant use of drugs and alcohol, and also began to conflict with each other. Tim Collins managed to save the group, who, in the early 80s, became the team manager. He persuaded the musicians to quit and plunge into work. It worked for a while.

In the mid-80s, Tyler got rid of the addiction, but later started using drugs again and several times had to live in a rehab facility.

Tyler has been clean since December 2009, and now he fights with addiction every day.

Deryck Whibley

In April 2014, Sum 41 vocalist and Avril Lavigne’s ex-husband Deryck Whibley was taken to hospital in a state of extreme intoxication. The musician was unconscious; his liver and kidneys were overloaded from the amount of alcohol.

A year after the incident, Derek married his friend Ariana Cooper, the girl who called an ambulance that fateful evening and stayed with him during rehabilitation. Ariana also had problems with alcohol and quit drinking with Derik.

Louis Tomlinson Releases New Single “We Made It” And Announces First Ever Solo World Tour

Louis Tomlinson dropped his newest single, “We Made It” via Syco/Arista Records today. Louis premiered the single with a performance at a SiriusXM fan event this morning. This is the third track off his highly anticipated debut solo album, WALLS, which was announced yesterday with a personal video from Louis on his socials. WALLS will be available on January 31st, 2020 but is available for pre-order now.

Louis will also be embarking on his first ever solo world tour in 2020. Louis’ 43-date tour kicks off on March 9th in Barcelona, Spain and hits cities all across the world including Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Dubai, Jakarta, Sydney, Tokyo and Rio De Janeiro, among others before hitting North America. The North American leg of the tour, presented by Live Nation, begins on June 9th in Minneapolis and will hit cities like Chicago, Toronto, Nashville, New York, and Los Angeles.

Tickets are available to the general public starting November 1st at 10am local time. To purchase tickets and for more information about the tour, please visit https://www.louis-tomlinson.com/.

Today, Louis also debuted the music video for “We Made It” in conjunction with the single. The video, which was directed by Charlie Lightening (Paul McCartney and Liam Gallagher), is a continuation from his “Kill My Mind” video released in September. The week leading up to “We Made It,” Louis began teasing the new music on his socials. On Sunday, he teased the single’s audio, followed by a teaser trailer of the “We Made It” music video on Tuesday. To heighten the anticipation, Louis also shared a digital scavenger hunt yesterday morning for fans to reveal the album art.

UK born singer/songwriter, Louis Tomlinson burst on the scene with One Direction when they propelled to international success after finishing in third place on The X Factor UK. Louis released the first single off his debut solo album in March 2019 titled “Two Of Us.” The deeply personal pop ballad is his response to the passing of his mother but is the perfect track to spearhead his return to music as a solo artist. In September, he released “Kill My Mind” to both critical and fan praise. Louis has already released two hit solo collaborations; the club-ready Steve Aoki collaboration “Just Hold On,” released in 2016, and brooding Bebe Rexha duet, “Back to You,” released the following year. These two singles have garnered over 1 billion streams alone. In 2017, Louis won an EMA Award for ‘Best UK & Ireland Act.’ The following year he returned to The X Factor UK as a judge on their 2018 season. Louis’ unaffected and constructive judging style stood out during his first year as a judge, seeing him win the series. That same year, Louis won an iHeart Award for ‘Best Solo Breakout,’ and was ranked No.5 on Billboard’s emerging artists of 2018. Louis also won the 2019 Teen Choice Award for “Choice Single: Male Artist” for “Two Of Us.” He has over 60 million combined followers on social media and as a member of One Direction, Louis has sold over 100 million records. Louis honed his songwriting skills during his six years in One Direction, the most successful pop group of their generation, with record sales exceeding 50 million. One Direction were known for their incredibly infectious live shows and Louis says he’s eager to hit the road again as a solo artist. Louis released “We Made It,” which is the third track off of his highly anticipated debut solo album, out next year.

Watch Prince Perform “Maniac Mondays”, Later Given To The Bangles

0

1984 was an astonishingly prolific year in Prince’s career.

Just months before releasing his watershed soundtrack and film, Purple Rain, Prince was deep into preparations for his massive Purple Rain Tour while also writing and recording nearly a song a day for proteges like Sheila E., The Time, and The Family.

One of those singles, “Manic Monday,” would become a breakout hit for the Bangles. Their version of the song skyrocketed to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1985, just behind Prince’s number 1 hit “Kiss.”

All these years later, the Bangles’ Susanna Hoffs still remembers how entranced she was when she first heard Prince’s original rendition of the song. “I knew it was an incredible gift,” she told the New York Times. “It was like putting on the slipper in a fairy tale.”

For over 30 years, she and her Bangles bandmates were some of the only people in the world to have heard it — until now.
Prince’s rendition of “Manic Monday” is one of the 15 tracks on the new album Originals, a collection of Prince’s versions of the hit songs he gave to other artists. Out now on Warner Records, Originals also includes Prince’s original performances of “Jungle Love,” “The Glamorous Life,” “Sex Shooter,” and more.

Together with archival footage from his vault — which captures Prince rehearsing with his band, The Revolution, for their massive Purple Rain Tour — these recordings provide a rare window into Prince’s creative process in this wildly productive era.

“Dolly Parton’s America” Is One Of The Best Music Podcasts Around

0

Porter Wagoner led the most successful country music television show of its time, and in 1967 he needed a new “girl singer.” He turned to a 21 year old songwriter named Dolly Parton, who’d just recorded her first hit “Dumb Blonde.” So began a nearly decade-long partnership that, behind the scenes, was as contentious as it was commercially successful. This episode tells the story of the “Porter years,” the period during which Dolly arguably discovers her power – both as a performer and songwriter – and then makes the difficult (and radical for its time) decision to strike out on her own. Through interviews with Dolly, country music star Marty Stuart, Wagonmaster Buck Trent, and Porter’s daughter Deborah Wagoner, Dolly Parton’s America explores how Dolly handled what’s sometimes called the great “hillbilly divorce” with such characteristic grace.
