Brendon Urie Announces Charity Twitch Stream Benefiting The Highest Hopes Foundation

0

Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendon Urie has announced a charity Twitch stream to benefit the Highest Hopes Foundation. The stream, which is a partnership with State Farm, will feature special guests and giveaways from Panic! At The Disco and friends at Oculus, HyperX, Beat Saber, Call Of Duty, The Game Awards, and more surprises. Fans can tune in to Urie’s Twitch channel (Twitch.tv/BrendonUrie) today, November 15 beginning at 11:00am PST/2:00pm EST to watch.

“After kicking things off at TwitchCon with the legend DrLupo, I’m excited to host a special charity stream for the Highest Hopes Foundation with support from my friends at State Farm,” shared Urie. “The gaming community can be a powerful force for so much good – let’s make a difference together!”

The Highest Hopes Foundation helps lead, develop, and advocate support for human rights. Brendon Urie and Panic! At The Disco have joined the fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. They started the Highest Hopes Foundation to share strength, courage, and motivation to all people and communities who are subject to discrimination or abuse on the basis of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Earlier this year, Brendon Urie received the Inspiration Award at the 2019 GLSEN Respect Awards in honor of his ongoing commitment to LGBTQ youth and for investing in the power of students to create more inclusive schools.

Brendon Urie is the frontman for Grammy-nominated, award-winning, internationally acclaimed rock band Panic! At The Disco. Their latest album, Pray For The Wicked, has been certified platinum by the RIAA after scoring their second consecutive #1 debut on the Billboard 200 Chart upon its June 2018 release via Fueled By Ramen/DCD2 Records. Pray For The Wicked is highlighted by the 4x-platinum certified hit “High Hopes,” which not only claimed the top spot across six different Billboard charts, but also simultaneously hit #1 across three different radio formats, including Pop, Alternative, and Hot AC, where it broke the record by topping the chart for 14 weeks, the longest run in 15 years. Pray For The Wicked follows 2016’s GRAMMY-nominated Death Of A Bachelor, which also debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart and went to become the highest selling rock album and fourth-highest selling album overall released in 2016, according to Nielsen Soundscan. In 2017, Urie took on Broadway, first starring as Charlie Price in the critically acclaimed, TONY Award-winning hit Kinky Boots. The following year, he received his own TONY Award nomination for “Best Original Score Written For Theatre” for “Simple Sponge,” a song he wrote for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical. Outside of music, Urie has founded the Highest Hopes Foundation – an umbrella fund which supports the efforts of non-profit organizations that lead, develop, and advocate support for human rights for all people and communities subject to discrimination or abuse on the basis of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity. In June 2018, Urie named GLSEN the foundation’s first beneficiary and pledged $1 million donation to the LGBTQ non-profit.

Panic! At The Disco’s Highest Hopes Foundation supports the efforts of non-profit organizations that lead, develop, and advocate support for human rights for all people and communities subject to discrimination or abuse on the basis of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity. All donations are tax-deductible through Highest Hopes 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF). EIF is a Charity Navigator 4 Star Charity and meets all 20 BBB Charity Standards. For more information visit www.highesthopes.org

Oldest Pro Songwriting Team in Pop Music History Releases ‘Senior Song Book’

0

From Elton John & Bernie Taupin and Carole King & Gerry Goffin to Burt Bacharach & Hal David and Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, popular music’s greatest songwriting teams have produced music that spans the generations.

But no songwriting team currently working today bridges as many generations as Alan R. Tripp and Marvin Weisbord, creators of SENIOR SONG BOOK, due for release Nov. 15, 2019. They are, arguably, the oldest professional songwriting team in pop music history.

With Tripp, the luxuriant lyricist who once wrote with the great Alan Bergman, clocking in at 102, and his “junior” songwriting partner, melody maker Weisbord, an equally robust 88, this dedicated duo has celebrated enough birthdays to traverse nearly two centuries.

And they’re just getting warmed up.

That’s a load of life experience, and with it comes the wisdom shining through in this new eight-song collection written expressly for seniors, by seniors. Moving easily from swing to tango to rumba and beyond with big band style orchestration, SENIOR SONG BOOK is brimming with music that will transport listeners back to the 1940s, with lyrics from a 2020s perspective.

Thanks to the fertile and restless minds of these two elder statesmen and the acumen and insight they’ve derived from their long, full lives, seniors who began coming of age with “the greatest generation” through the dawn of rock ‘n’ roll will no longer feel displaced and relegated to their old recordings.

Tripp, a thrice retired advertising executive, inventor and author as well, has long lamented the dearth of new music being written for seniors. As the pilot of SENIOR SONG BOOK, he has emphatically made good on his vow to fill that void.

“We found a secret,” says Tripp. “If you write music in the old style of the 1940s, the big bands, people love it. Not just older people, but younger people. But the words must not try to compete with the old times. They were too saccharine, too sweet. They weren’t the reality you get when you become older – and I’m a little older. But now in this reality of looking back at life, we could sing new words with new ideas based upon our viewpoint of what makes life good. The question of what happens between men and women. How do they get along, and not get along? What happens the second time around? How about the 3rd and 4th?

“We wanted to have some real reflections on living and put those words to the old music. So we suddenly came up with eight songs and a whole album, and that got me in this trouble I’m in right now.”

That twinkle of humor in Tripp’s explanation is the same mischievous approach he takes to his lyric writing – not to mention his overall views on life, longevity, and his own mortality. Nowhere on SENIOR SONG BOOK is that better exemplified than in the chorus of the album’s first single, “I Just Can’t Remember Your Name”:

I know I ought to kiss you, but baby there’s an issue. I just can’t remember your name.

“I interject humor into everything I can,” says Tripp. “My assessment of life is that it has enough things that are serious, that I don’t need to contribute any more trauma. Therefore, if there’s something that will help make people laugh, it will help them live longer. And if you can’t laugh, you’re doomed!”

Other songs, like “Looking in the Mirror” and “Wonder Woman,” are all similarly based on how older people view the human relationship, as both good and bad. “Looking in the Mirror” frames a person seeing life experiences pass before his eyes. And at the very end, that person he sees in the mirror is the woman he lost. Tripp calls his lyrics simply honest.

“Sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn’t,” he says. “But if you want to live to be healthy and old, you learn to take it both ways.”

Tripp has been around so long that his life has paralleled the rise of popular music. Born during World War I, he began to form his musical tastes during the Roaring 20s as an elementary school student, and just started going through puberty during the Great Depression. As a teenager, Tripp thought he was going to make a career as a songwriter, and at 15, the Leavenworth, KS, native brought some of his compositions to sell at New York City’s infamous hit factory, the Brill Building. After knocking on several doors, he quickly discovered he could better utilize those skills in the advertising world.

“I found out that being a songwriter at that point was not compatible with eating,” he recalls. “You could do one or the other. So I went and wrote a jingle for Kool cigarettes. And I got $75. To me, it was all the money in the world. So I went into advertising.”

If, as they say, the music that sticks with you the most is the stuff one hears as a teen, that would put Tripp’s formative years right in the mid-1930s, amid the Big Band Boom.

He’s retired three times but that’s only on paper. As long as his mind remains restless, Alan R. Tripp will never stop working, even at 102. He just can’t. And won’t.

“Retirement is not being compelled by anybody but yourself to do what you do,” he says. “It doesn’t need to be about money. If you retire to slothfulness, believe me you’ll be a slob. That’s all that will happen to you. I’m semi-retired now. I actually just came back out of retirement to do this album. I’m also writing another book, which I had to stop in order to do this. So, I’m torn!”

Marilyn Manson Joins Ozzy Osbourne For Rescheduled North American Dates

When OZZY OSBOURNE relaunches his “NO MORE TOURS 2” in 2020, he’ll be joined by special guest Marilyn Manson for the North American shows.

These dates are OZZY’s first shows since he announced earlier this year that all his 2019 performances would be postponed allowing him to heal from an injury sustained while dealing with pneumonia. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Gramm®-winning singer and songwriter and 2019 Grammy Special Merit Award recipient fell at his Los Angeles home and trapped his spine aggravating years-old injuries (from his 2003 ATV accident) that required surgery.

The “NO MORE TOURS 2” kicks off May 27 in Atlanta and concludes July 31 in Las Vegas. Next up, OSBOURNE will head overseas in October for the rescheduled European dates; Judas Priest will remain as support on the tour as part of their “JP/50 Heavy Metal Years” anniversary tour.

“Marilyn is killer live,” OZZY says. “He’s so out there, and if I think that, then look out, we’re all fed.

“I’ve toured with Ozzy many times and it’s always been fing spectacular,” says Marilyn Manson. “I’m honored to do it again. This is one not to miss.”

Can anyone match Freddie Mercury’s legendary voice? Queen and YouTube Music are challenging fans to find out!

0

Bohemian Rhapsody” is considered one of the greatest rock songs of all time, so it’s no wonder the music video recently hit 1 billion views on YouTube. For decades, fans have belted out the song’s iconic lyrics alongside Freddie Mercury’s one-of-a-kind vocals, but how many can really sing it just like Freddie? YouTube, Google Creative Lab, and Google Research, working in partnership with Queen, Universal Music Group and Hollywood Records, have built a new AI experiment called FreddieMeter to find out!

Released in support of Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity founded by Brian May, Roger Taylor and Jim Beach to raise awareness and funds for the fight against HIV/AIDS, and in honour of the 44th anniversary of the band’s first-ever live performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” at the Empire Theater, Liverpool, U.K in November 1975; FreddieMeter was created to let fans around the world determine how closely their singing matches the voice of Queen’s legendary frontman, Freddie Mercury.

FreddieMeter shows users how closely their voice matches Freddie Mercury’s legendary range by analyzing the singer’s pitch, timbre, and melody to assign them a score of 0 to 100. Queen fans, killer impressionists, and anyone who enjoys a little karaoke and are ready to step up to the challenge can get started by doing the following:

  1. SING: Pick one of four QUEEN songs on the microsite (Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now, Somebody to Love or We Are the Champions) and sing your heart out!
  2. SHARE: Get your score and share! Download the custom scorecard asset directly to your device, then share it on YouTube and other social media.
  3. CHALLENGE: Using the hashtag #FreddieChallenge on social channels, challenge three friends to see how they measure up.
  4. DONATE: Encourage a charitable donation to Mercury Phoenix Trust in your post → http://www.mercuryphoenixtrust.com/donate

Google Creative Lab and Google Research created FreddieMeter using new on-device machine learning models, and it’s been trained on Freddie’s isolated vocals as well as samples of people trying to sing like Freddie. FreddieMeter is trained on and optimized for individual singers and works on desktop, Android and iPhone devices and the audio doesn’t get uploaded to any servers to be analyzed, so all vocals stay totally private unless shared by the user.

FreddieMeter continues YouTube’s celebration of Queen’s music and “Bohemian Rhapsody’s” 1 billion views milestone, which coincided with the release of a newly remastered HD version of the video. The achievement made history with the anthem being the first pre-1990s video to reach one billion views on the platform.

In partnership with Universal Music Group and Hollywood Records, YouTube also recently launched ‘You Are The Champions,’ a unique campaign that gave fans an exclusive chance to become a part of Queen history with a starring role in brand-new, user-generated videos for three of the band’s most celebrated tracks – “A Kind of Magic,” “Don’t Stop Me Now” and the iconic “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The results were pulled from more than 10,000 submissions from more than 120 countries around the world, showing the depth and love for Queen and Freddie amongst their loyal global fanbase.

Amanda Shires Announces 2020 Tour With L.A. Edwards

0

“It’s all rock & roll – no golf!” is how singer/songwriter/violinist Amanda Shires describes her electrifying fifth album, To The Sunset. She’s borrowed a lyric from the track “Break Out the Champagne,” one of ten deftly crafted songs that comprise her powerful new recording. The Texas-born road warrior, new mom, and recently minted MFA in creative writing has mined a range of musical influences to reveal an Amanda Shires many didn’t know existed.

It’s been a jam-packed since the release of Shires’ critically hailed My Piece of Land: constant touring with her band and as a member of husband Jason Isbell’s 400 Unit; finishing her MFA; and winning the Americana Association’s 2017 Emerging Artist award. Armed with stacks of journals, she wrote a batch of new songs in a flurry of focus and solitude – in a closet at the Shires/Isbell abode. “With a two-year-old running around, there’s nowhere to hide,” Shires explains.

She reconvened with Land’s producer Dave Cobb (Isbell; Sturgill Simpson) at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A. While writing such stunners as the enchanting “Parking Lot Pirouette,” haunting “Charms,” and raucous “Eve’s Daughter,” she thought about their sonics. “I explained to Dave that I wanted the songs to have atmosphere,” Shires recalls. “That the album was going to be sort of poppy, and that I was doing that to bring some sunshine into the world, cause it’s pretty dark right now.”

Shires is renowned for her carefully crafted songs. Her influences include Leonard Cohen and John Prine, the latter of whom has been a mentor. “I was talking to John Prine while I was writing this record,” says Shires, “and he was talking about how using images that actually happened to you makes the songs true. Also, if you use images that you can see daily, it’s more relatable.” Shires took his advice in such tracks as “Break Out the Champagne.” “It’s all true!” says the resilient Shires. The near-plane crash over Newfoundland, her BFF Kelly’s fears about our apocalyptic times, another friend’s heavy breakup.

To The Sunset, says Shires, “is meant to be a positive thing. Acknowledging your past, and at sunset, your hope for a new day. ‘To The Sunset’ sounds like a toast: This day is over, we don’t know what’s in the future, but it’s hopeful, I think.” Shires has drawn from her own past on To The Sunset – and pointed the way to her future. She has set the bar high – sonically and lyrically – and she’s jumped over it.
