Ben Watt Announces US Tour, Releases New Song “Balanced On A Wire” from New Album ‘Storm Damage’ out January 31
Award-winning musician-writer-DJ Ben Watt releases a new song “Balanced On A Wire” ahead of his forthcoming new album Storm Damage (out Jan 31) together with an atmospheric performance video filmed at the legendary RAK Studios in London where the album was recorded in April earlier this year. The video and track, which BlackBook called “…one of the most visceral pieces of music he’s ever recorded,” gives a flavor of Watt’s powerful new “future-retro trio” which will tour in support of the album. Additionally, Watt’s first US dates in almost three years are also announced today. The US tour kicks off on March 31 in Washington, D.C. and will make stops in New York, Minneapolis, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and more. Find a full list of tour dates below.
“My kids were teenagers leaving home for the first time when I wrote it,’ says Watt of the new song. “I was moved by their mixture of anxiety and determination. It reminded me of being nineteen myself, standing on the edge of something new, how you cope, how you need to open up when the other half of you is screaming ‘no’. And I realised I still felt like that now sometimes. Perhaps that feeling never really leaves you.”
Recently, Watt released the single “Sunlight Follows The Night” and “Irene,” featuring Low’s Alan Sparhawk on electric guitar and harmony vocal. Stereogum called Sparhawk “…an ideal accompaniment for the song’s central substance, which amounts to Watt crooning with earthy singer-songwriter gravitas over a finger-picked metal resonator guitar and a synthetic tape loop.” Following the release of “Irene,” Flood Magazine published an in-depth and inspiring conversation between Sparhawk and Watt.
Storm Damage – a hybrid contemporary acoustic-electronic set – completes a compelling trilogy of albums since Watt’s late-flowering return to solo songwriting and singing six years ago after ten years as an acclaimed DJ-remixer-label boss and seventeen in best-selling duo, Everything But The Girl with Tracey Thorn.
“My closest half-brother died unexpectedly in 2016, only four years after my half-sister,” he says of events surrounding the album’s origins. “I got stuck for a year, angry inside and angry at the political world casually detonating around me. I felt half powerless, half driven. When the songs finally came, some were dark, yes, but there is always room for light. Always. I just tried to put that across.”
Emotional and inventive, Storm Damage is released on Unmade Road through Caroline International.

Toronto Jazz Songstress Denise Leslie flips the script, channels 70s rockers in One Fine Morning for new Album
Canadian artist Denise Leslie is on a mission “to bring the fun back to jazz” through fresh arrangements, unique musical interpretations, and magnetic charisma.
Nowhere is this demonstrated more than on the Toronto-area vocalist’s debut solo album, One Fine Morning — and its premiere single, her take on Brit rockers Badfinger’s circa-1971 hit, “Day After Day” — both available now!
Produced by award-winning producer and guitarist Bob McAlpine, One Fine Morning sits squarely at the intersection of jazz, R&B and rock, and features bassist Pat Collins, drummer Paul DeLong, pianist Don Baird, and horn players from Brass Transit and Lighthouse.
“This album is paying tribute to the music I cherished in my formative years,” Leslie shares of the release. “Particularly the 70s.
“The music of that time had a pureness,” she continues. “It was a time when music could really make a difference, and when melody was more integral to songwriting.”
One Fine Morning serves as both a professional and deeply personal milestone for Denise Leslie. “I put my music aside for a number of years,” she says, citing her career as a sought-after interior designer and busy mother of three, and that the album was three years in the making. “At some point, however, I felt a deep inner calling to rekindle my passion for singing.”
To say that following that calling was ‘meant to be’ is an understatement; since pursuing the craft full-time, Leslie has since performed on stages nationwide for the past 16 years now — including but not limited to Alberta’s Jack Singer Concert Hall, and Ontario’s Living Arts Centre — and a five year residency as lead vocalist with the Mississauga Big Band Jazz Ensemble. She also released You Don’t Know What Love Is with pianist and arranger Mark Kieswetter in 2012.
“Denise is one of those rare singers who makes every song her own,” says Micah Barnes, #1-charting Canadian jazz crooner, vocal coach, and former Nylon, of Leslie’s technical and storytelling talents. “Her choice of unique material and unmistakable musicality make her one of Canada’s upcoming vocalists to watch.”
With jazz legends from Ella Fitzgerald to Billie Holiday to Linda Ronstadt lined up as inspiration, Leslie also had someone closer in her cabal to share her appreciation for the craft. “I enjoyed playing piano and singing in several choirs throughout my youth” she recalls. “But it was my father, a devoted jazz fan, that fostered in me a love for jazz music.”
On One Fine Morning, that love stands firmly in the spotlight.
“Day After Day” and One Fine Morning are available now.

Watch the lyric video for new single “I Can Hardly Speak,” which Brooklyn Vegan deems as “an instantly appealing dose of lightly psychedelic indie pop.”
Everything Else Has Gone Wrong was recorded with Grammy-winning producer John Congleton (Sharon Van Etten, Spoon, St. Vincent), and recaptures the magic of the band’s earlier releases. Uncut says, “The London quartet sound rejuvenated … a reminder of how far they’ve advanced since their early badge as adolescent indie rockers.” Paste Magazine just named the new album one of their Most Anticipated Albums of 2020, while DIY Magazine says it “taps into their strongest asset — the ability to break your heart and heal it in the time it takes to move from verse to chorus.”
“Stunning” (Billboard) lead single “Eat, Sleep, Wake” has racked up over 10 million Spotify streams and has been praised for its “invigorating hooks and wistful attitude” (Pitchfork) as well as “immediately feeling like classic BBC” (Dork). Listen here: https://youtu.be/zFb86yrodxE

Mastercard Unveils its First-Ever Music Single, Delivering Latest Evolution of its Sonic Brand Identity for The Next Decade
Built on trust and passion, Mastercard is redefining how people interact and recall the brand with the drop of its first-ever sonic-integrated music single. As experiences increasingly define the brand in the eyes of the consumer, Mastercard is designing consumer journeys that cater to the senses and reinforce the brand in new and differentiated ways.
Mastercard is collaborating with songwriter and producer Niclas Molinder to engage with up and coming global artists. Together, they will commission them to build upon the Mastercard sound architecture to curate an auditory experience that brings new meaning and purpose to the brand. Introduced in 2019, the company’s sonic melody is a critical component to how people recognize Mastercard today and into the future and was derived with a flexibility that enables it to live across musical genres and cultures while maintaining familiarity.
For its first song drop, Mastercard is engaging with Swedish artist Nadine Randle to organically and authentically integrate the company’s brand values and sonic identity into a first-ever musical output. Debuting at Live @ CES, an event in partnership with iHeartRadio on January 8, the single, titled “Merry Go Round,” tells the story of a new beginning and fresh start enabled with Priceless possibility.
“Sound is our next frontier for brand expression and a powerful way for us to reach consumers through the passions that connect us all. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Nadine on ‘Merry Go Round’ to integrate the recognizable sonic melody – underscoring the many ways that the branding can be used beyond traditional means,” said Mastercard chief marketing and communications officer Raja Rajamannar.
Mastercard has reimagined how sound can manifest as a brand expression, while also serving as an audio reinforcement of payment security and authenticity – to drive consumers’ peace of mind in a retail setting, today the sonic melody is integrated at more than 7.6 million payment points worldwide. According to research conducted by Mastercard and GfK Global, seventy-seven percent believe the Mastercard sonic sound made the transaction and retail environment more trustworthy.
You can download or stream “Merry Go Round” via RADIO.com or on your favorite music streaming services. “Merry Go Round” is the first single for an upcoming album released by Mastercard integrating sonic, due to launch later in 2020.

Since 2015, Halsey has amassed over 25 billion streams worldwide and sold more than 11 million adjusted albums globally. She has played sold out dates on five continents (including New York City’s Madison Square Garden), been nominated for a GRAMMY and appeared on a wide variety of magazine covers, including Rolling Stone, Cosmopolitan, NYLON, Forbes, Playboy and Billboard. Her 2015 debut album, BADLANDS, was certified Platinum by the RIAA within one year of its release. Halsey claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 with 2017’s Platinum-certified hopeless fountain kingdom, which contained such hits as the 2x Platinum “Now or Never” and the 4x Platinum “Bad at Love.”
The success of the 6x Platinum “Without Me” has made Halsey the first and only female artist to have at least three songs chart on the Billboard Hot 100 for 50 weeks each. Rounding out the trio of songs are the 4x Platinum “Eastside,” her collaboration with Benny Blanco and Khalid, and The Chainsmokers’ 11x Platinum “Closer,” which she featured on. “Without Me,” which took Favorite Song, Pop/Rock honors at the American Music Awards, spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in early 2019, marking her first solo single to reach the top spot. It now ranks as the longest-running Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit by a female artist of this century. She is the first artist to rank at Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously on Billboard’s Hot 100 Pop Songs radio airplay chart. In March 2019, Halsey became the first artist in history to replace herself at No. 1 twice on the U.S. Pop Songs Airplay chart when “Without Me” returned to No. 1, bumping “Eastside” from the top spot. “Without Me” was the most-played song of 2019 at U.S. radio. She featured on BTS’ Platinum hit, “Boy With Luv,” and, more recently, alongside Future on “Die for Me,” a track from Post Malone’s new album.
Halsey continues to push creative boundaries, expanding her influence and impact beyond music. After making her film debut in the animated 2018 summer movie Teen Titans GO! as the voice of Wonder Woman, she was seen in A Star is Born, starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. She continues to use her voice to speak up for causes she passionately believes in, including disenfranchised youth, women’s rights, mental health and the LGBTQ community. GLAAD honored her in 2018 as “Outstanding Music Artist.” In 2019, she has won an AMA, the Hal David Starlight Award, presented by the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a VMA and two Teen Choice Awards.
