Spotify Rolls Out Five New Features To Make Listening More Personal And Powerful

0

Spotify is always evolving to give listeners more control, more personalization, and more ways to connect. Whether you’re a playlist curator, a casual listener, or a music superfan, these five features are worth trying out today.

1. Get Spotify recommendations in ChatGPT

You can now bring Spotify into your ChatGPT conversations. Just mention Spotify in a prompt—like asking for songs to match your mood or planning a playlist for a road trip—and you’ll receive personalized recommendations instantly.

How to try it:

    • Mention Spotify in ChatGPT and connect your account when prompted.
    • Ask for songs, albums, artists, playlists, or podcasts.
    • Tap a track to open Spotify and start listening.

Available in English in select markets to Free and Premium Spotify users.

2. Exclude tracks from your Taste Profile

Not every listen needs to impact your recommendations. Now, you can remove specific tracks—like sleep sounds, kids’ songs, or one-off listens—from your Taste Profile.

How to do it:

    • Tap the three-dot menu on any track.
    • Select “Exclude from your Taste Profile.”
    • You can add it back anytime.

This helps keep Discover WeeklyWrapped, and other personalized features focused on what you actually want to hear.

3. Stream in Lossless audio

Lossless has now rolled out for Spotify Premium users in all eligible markets, delivering higher-quality audio at up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC. It’s ideal for listeners who want the clearest sound possible.

How to enable it:

    • Go to Settings → Media Quality.
    • Select where you want to enable “Lossless”—Wi-Fi, mobile, or downloads.
    • Look for the “Lossless” indicator in the Now Playing view.

Lossless works best with wired headphones or on devices that support Spotify Connect

4. Share directly with friends using messages

Spotify’s new in-app Messages feature makes it easy to share and discuss your favorite music, podcasts, and audiobooks with friends.

How it works:

    • Tap the share icon when listening to a song, podcast, or audiobook.
    • Select a friend and send a message.
    • Once you accept a message request, you can chat, react, and share content back and forth, all inside the Spotify app.

Rolling out in select markets. Users must be aged 16 or older to access the feature.

5. Add seamless transitions to playlists

Spotify Premium users can customize the way their playlists sound with transitions between tracks. With the new Mix tool, you can fade songs into one another, adjust EQ and volume, and create a smoother listening experience.

To start mixing:

    • Open any playlist you’ve created and tap “Mix” in the toolbar.
    • Use Auto for instant results or customize manually.
    • Save and share your mixed playlist.

This feature is in beta and available to eligible Spotify Premium users globally.

These updates are designed to make your Spotify experience more intuitive, more immersive, and more you. Keep your app updated to access the latest features and make sure you’re getting the most out of your music.

The rise of subscription models in digital entertainment

0

By Mitch Rice

Subscription models have become the foundation of digital entertainment, offering predictable revenue for providers and convenience for customers. The shift from ownership to access is reshaping how audiences engage with content across music, video, and gaming platforms, fundamentally altering consumer expectations and business strategies.

  1. Why subscription models are dominating digital entertainment

The move to subscription-based services is driven by convenience, cost-effectiveness, and the ability to access vast content libraries on demand. Netflix and Spotify pioneered this shift, offering unlimited access for a monthly fee that provides businesses with stable, recurring revenue whilst giving consumers flexibility and choice. According to Juniper Research, subscription economy revenue reached approximately $593 billion in 2024 and is forecast to grow to $996 billion by 2028, representing a 68% increase. This model eliminates large upfront investments, lowering barriers to entry for consumers who can access premium content for less than traditional ownership costs. The predictability of subscription revenue allows providers to invest confidently in original content creation and platform improvements, creating a virtuous cycle of quality enhancement.

  1. How they shape consumer behaviour

Streaming platforms have changed how audiences consume media, with users now expecting personalised recommendations, flexible access, and a steady stream of original content. This has led to increased binge-watching habits, reduced tolerance for advertisements, and a strong preference for curated experiences tailored to individual tastes. Ofcom’s Media Nations report indicates that approximately 20.1 million UK households subscribed to video-on-demand services in Q3 2024, with 68.8% of UK households having access to streaming subscriptions. Algorithm-driven content discovery replaces traditional channel surfing, whilst simultaneous multi-device access allows for consumption anywhere and anytime. The “always-on” nature of streaming services has normalised immediate gratification in entertainment consumption, with viewers expecting new episodes and films to appear regularly without traditional broadcast scheduling constraints.

  1. Subscription versus ad-supported models

Whilst subscription models tend to offer ad-free viewing and predictable income streams, ad-supported platforms provide free access and broader reach to diverse audiences. Many services adopt hybrid approaches to cater to both premium subscribers looking for uninterrupted experiences and cost-sensitive audiences willing to tolerate advertisements in exchange for reduced or zero subscription fees. This dual-tier strategy maximises market penetration whilst allowing providers to monetise different user segments effectively. Premium tiers often include additional benefits such as higher video quality, simultaneous streams, and early access to content, creating clear value propositions that justify higher pricing. Ad-supported tiers, meanwhile, leverage advertising technology to deliver targeted campaigns that generate revenue whilst maintaining user accessibility.

  1. Future trends

The next wave of innovation includes AI-driven personalisation, virtual reality integration, and flexible subscription plans that adapt to changing consumer circumstances. Retention strategies will likely emphasise loyalty incentives, pause features allowing temporary subscription holds, and bundled offerings combining multiple services at discounted rates. Niche platforms are also gaining popularity across specialised entertainment categories. For example, services like casino slots at Mr Q show how subscription models are expanding into targeted entertainment segments, catering to specific user interests besides traditional streaming. These developments reflect broader industry recognition that one-size-fits-all approaches no longer suffice in fragmented entertainment markets where personalisation and flexibility determine competitive advantage.

Subscription models have irrevocably transformed digital entertainment, establishing recurring revenue frameworks whilst fundamentally reshaping consumption patterns and consumer expectations.

Yellowcard Charge Into a New Era With ‘Take What You Want’ and Upcoming Album ‘Better Days’

0

Yellowcard are celebrating today’s global release “Take What You Want” with an accompanying music video showcasing footage taken during the band’s recent tours in Japan, Australia and Europe.

“Take What You Want” is the third new song from the group’s forthcoming studio album “Better Days” releasing worldwide on October 10th. “Take What You Want” follows the release of the first two songs “Better Days” and “honestly i” which have accumulated over 4-million streams since release on May 28th.

The highly anticipated new album is produced, and executive produced, by Travis Barker with Barker also playing drums on every song. The album’s title track “Better Days” is at radio now and in just 4 weeks, is already up to #13 on the Mediabase Alternative chart.

“The new track ‘Take What You Want’ really captures the amazing energy of these sessions with Travis Barker producing. The drums immediately pull you in, and the melodies are so focused and memorable,” says lead singer Ryan Key.

Once ubiquitous on MTV and the Billboard Hot 100, the Vans Warped Tour veterans, whose first two albums produced double-platinum and gold title tracks, sound fully recharged and revitalized in 2025.

The band agreed that making a new album was pointless unless it was the best of their career. They refused to rush the process and for the first time gave themselves permission to ask for help. Ryan Mendez invited his long-time friend Nick Long into the writing sessions and it was through Long that Barker became part of the project, coming on board to play drums and produce the whole album.

“I started the record as one version of myself and came out the other side changed,” says front man Ryan Key who credits Barker with a significant impact on his personal and creative studio breakthroughs. “I went in knowing I needed help. I came out of it writing songs like I was 19 again.”

In June, Yellowcard announced their co-headline “Maximum Fun Tour” alongside A Day To Remember running from September 5th through November 22nd with stops on both the Warped Tour and When We Were Young Festival (complete tour schedule below).

Formed in Jacksonville FL in 1997, Yellowcard became one of the most influential bands in the 2000’s alternative rock scene. Known for blending high energy pop punk with a signature violin twist, their 2003 breakthrough Ocean Avenue is certified Platinum with the title track now certified 2X Platinum. With over 4 million albums sold worldwide and over 1 billion streams, the band is poised for continued success on this new endeavor. After disbanding in 2017, Yellowcard reunited in 2022 entering into a new creative era and a year packed with a global tour to support it.

The KEXP performance followed the release of their latest album, Stockholm Syndrome, a summer of explosive shows across the U.S., including a special appearance at the GRAMMY Museum, a featured slot on Less Than Jake’s Summer Circus Tour, and standout sets on the Vans Warped Tour in Washington, D.C., and Long Beach, CA.

While every incarnation of Fishbone’s storied history has contributed to the band’s enduring influence and cultural legacy. Today’s lineup has been met with widespread praise for keeping the Fishbone flame burning brighter than ever. Fronted by the irrepressible Angelo Moore and longtime creative force Christopher Dowd, the group features a revitalized ensemble including bassist James Jones, drummer Hassan Hurd, trumpeter/vocalist John “JS” Williams II, and the welcome return of guitarist Tracey “Spacey T” Singleton-each bringing fresh energy and precision to Fishbone’s unmistakable sound.

Stockholm Syndrome, released in June 2025, continues to earn widespread critical acclaim, Spin Magazine said, “The ska-funk-metal mavericks return, still partying, but even more pissed off… Fishbone is still getting down while the world hovers on the brink.” While Punk News shared, “The band sounds refreshed and reinvigorated… tackling fascism, racism, the record industry, and the power of love with fierce honesty and unstoppable groove.”

Eve Goodman and SERA Weave Magic and Nature Into Their Debut Album ‘Natur’

0

Ranging from a whimsical sea shanty about a Menai Strait mermaid to an evocative acapella spell-song; from a love song inspired by a moth, to an ode to emotions and the weather, this is a meaningful and creative folk songbook. The album is a rich and varied journey from percussive, hooky ear-worms about burnout and modern life (Anian), to expansive and moving Celtic blessings that sing of reverence for the land (Bendith).

Eve Goodman and SERA (Sarah Zyborska) began working together when they were both selected as BBC Horizons Artists in 2019. Both women, with rising solo careers, grew up in Caernarfon, North Wales. After just one writing session they found common ground in their connection to and curiosity around nature. Surrounded by the beautiful North Wales landscape that is such an important part of their lives, they began to explore the Welsh names for birds, trees, flowers and the more-than-human world. The song tendrils soon grew to touch upon the cyclical element of both nature and women. Soon enough a body of work was growing, each song a celebration of both. Natur was born.

The album was recorded in Wild End Studio near Llanrwst, North Wales, nestled in the foothills, with co-producer Colin Bass (member of Camel and also producer of the Tincian album from 9 Bach which won ‘Best Album’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award in 2015).

The duo have appeared on Welsh talk show ‘Heno’ and have recorded a session live at BBC Maida Vale Studios. In 2023 they were finalists in the televised song competition Can i Gymru (Song for Wales), with Tangnefedd, a track from the album. Over the years they have released two popular tracks (Gaeafgwsg and Rhwng y Coed) which have garnered almost 100,000 streams and were playlisted on BBC Radio Cymru. Thanks to a Ty Cerdd Lottery grant and the BBC Horizons launchpad fund, the two were able to write and record Natur, their first album together.

The duo will be supporting Julie Fowlis on her UK tour date in Bangor on the 1st of November 2025

Eve Goodman and SERA began working together after they were selected as BBC Horizons Artists in 2019. Both folk singer-songwriters, with rising solo careers and both had grown up in Caernarfon. Being part of Horizons brought them together and after just one writing session they found common ground in their connection to and curiosity around nature. Surrounded by the beautiful North Wales landscape that is such an important part of their lives, and Inspired by the Lost Words – Spells Songs project, they began to explore the Welsh names for birds and trees, flowers and fish. The song tendrils soon grew to touch upon the cyclical element of both nature and women. Soon enough a body of work was growing, each song a hymn of love to both.

2020 started off as an exciting year for the pair, performing on Welsh TV show Heno, then live at BBC Maida Vale Studios, and released two popular tracks (Gaeafgwsg and Rhwng y Coed) which have garnered almost 100,000 streams and were playlisted on BBC Radio Cymru. Thanks to a Ty Cerdd Lottery grant and then the Horizons launchpad fund, the two were able to make time to write the remaining tracks for their album, alongside successful solo careers and releases. They took part in the live televised song competition, Can i Gymru 2023, with Tangnefedd, then went into the studio.

We Came As Romans Find Beauty In Chaos With New Album ‘All Is Beautiful…Because We’re Doomed’

0

We Came As Romans have released their highly anticipated new album, ‘ALL IS BEAUTIFUL…BECAUSE WE’RE DOOMED’, via Sharptone Records.

The announcement arrives alongside the release of the album’s third single, “culture wound,” and its accompanying official music video. Following the defiant anthems “bad luck” and “no rest for the dreamer,” this latest track dives deep into the battle between our best and worst impulses.

“culture wound” confronts the fundamental question at the heart of human existence: are we inherently good or inherently bad? The track wrestles with the forces-both internal and external-that shape who we become, delivered through the band’s signature blend of crushing riffs and soaring melodies.

“culture wound is about taking a look inside and deciding which side of yourself is going to control your life. This song was written to question our human nature – is it inherently good or inherently selfish? Are we here to try and make something better for everyone or just survive for ourselves? All of the different “sides of ourselves” that we’ve discovered, struggled with, or left behind is really what this album is about, and our journey through all of those experiences is written in every song.”

ALL IS BEAUTIFUL…BECAUSE WE’RE DOOMED’ represents a profound creative evolution for We Came As Romans. Born from introspection and shaped by the band’s own journey through triumph and tragedy, the album explores themes of existentialism, gratitude, loss, and the perpetual cycles of life. The record’s conceptual framework-inspired by philosophical notions of death and rebirth-manifests in its very structure, with the album looping seamlessly from end to beginning, symbolizing that endings lead to new beginnings.

The album emerged from an intensive creative process that saw the band turn inward, mining their shared experiences for authentic emotional truth. What began as a struggle to find direction after 2022’s grief-stricken, highly acclaimed ‘Darkbloom’, transformed into their most conceptually ambitious work to date. Each track ties to a specific moment or period in the band’s history, creating a sonic autobiography that spans their entire career while focusing unflinchingly on the future.

“culture wound” serves as a centerpiece for the album’s exploration of duality and self-examination. The track underwent extensive revision to achieve its final form-a testament to the band’s commitment to getting every detail right on this deeply personal record.

Track List:
bad luck
lake of fire
red smoke
one by one
culture wound
where did you go?
no rest for the dreamer
b2tm
circling a dying sun
knowing pain
so lost (burning flowers)
because we’re doomed

Sofia Camara Sets Her Heart Free With New EP ‘Hard To Love’ And World Tour Kickoff

0

Today, rising global pop star Sofia Camara releases her second EP of the year, Hard To Love, via 21 Entertainment Group and Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, with international support from Mercury Records in the US and Polydor Records in the UK.

Hard To Love includes the previously released singles “Girls Like You” and “Parking Lot” – the former of which continues to thrive at Canadian radio, reaching #9 at Hot AC, #15 at Main AC, and #16 on the Top 40. “Girls Like You” also recently became Sofia’s first track to chart on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 at #72 and was praised by BBC Radio 1’s Future Pop as “just the perfect pop song.” Hard To Love additionally includes four new songs, including the focus track “Complicated.”

Writing this project was like therapy,” says Sofia. “It came from a place I don’t visit often… the quiet moments, the breakdowns, the goodbyes that never felt finished. Some of the hardest things I’ve ever felt are woven into these songs. I didn’t sugarcoat anything. This is me, raw and honest.

It’s about loving deeply and losing deeply. It’s about the kind of pain that changes you. And even though it came together quickly, it’s the most real thing I’ve ever made. Every song is a conversation I never got to have with people I loved profoundly. If you’ve ever held your pain in silence, or watched someone you love become a stranger, or stood in the middle of a goodbye that you never wanted, this is for you. This EP is my heart. Unfiltered. Unprotected. And finally, set free.”

Most songs on this project are produced by Mike Wise, and co-produced by Lowell, Nate Ferraro, and Sofia – the superstar team behind some of her biggest hits, including “Who Do I Call Now? (Hellbent)” and “Girls Like You.” “That’s Just How You Feel” is co-written with Em Beihold and Nick Lopez and produced by Jason Suwito (Benson Boone, Imagine Dragons, JVKE).

Metal Meets the Cosmos: The Sword Extend ‘Warp Riders’ 15th Anniversary Tour Across the U.S.

0

The Sword has extended their highly-anticipated Warp Riders 15th Anniversary tour, adding a new leg that sees the trek now span the U.S.

“This is probably the only chance people will have to see us perform the entire album, so don’t miss out!” says JD Cronise.

Upon its 2010 release, the 10-track Warp Riders was praised by the BBC for its “level of fantastical grandeur… on par with the bands who built the power metal subgenre,” while The Quietus called it “brilliant,” and Pitchfork dubbed it “Camaro-ready riff-rock.”

The legendary Austin-based band announced their reunion earlier this year, bringing their signature blend of crushing heaviness and cosmic groove back to audiences who have long awaited their comeback. JD Cronise, in conversation with Revolver, discussed The Sword’s Levitation Festival performance as a turning point for the foursome, describing the experience as “like putting on a comfortable pair of sneakers.” Kyle Shutt added: “I can’t tell you what it means to see everyone’s positive reception. It feels so good to see people out there almost more enthusiastic about the band than ever – it’s something we’ll never take for granted.”
