OneRepublic to Perform for SiriusXM at Pandora LIVE Event in Brooklyn

SiriusXM announced today that GRAMMY nominated pop rock band OneRepublic will perform at its upcoming Pandora LIVE concert. The free concert will be hosted by The Morning Mash Up from SiriusXM’s Hits 1 and take place on Monday, December 5 at Avant Gardner in Brooklyn. Music fans can RSVP to attend the in-person show HERE.

With more than a decade of hits to their credit, OneRepublic is in the midst of a world tour and is currently topping charts with “I Ain’t Worried,” which is featured in the film Top Gun: Maverick.

“We’re so excited to come to Brooklyn to perform a Pandora LIVE concert and can’t wait for the rest of our fans to hear the show on SiriusXM,” said Ryan Tedder.

Pandora LIVE is a popular concert series from the streaming service owned by SiriusXM, that brings music fans closer to their favorite artists and features top performers from across all genres, including country, pop, rock, R&B and more. SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up with Nicole Ryan, Ryan Sampson and Stanley T, will host the concert, bringing listeners to the tentpole SiriusXM Hits 1 morning show exclusive access to the concert performances and commentary.

Pandora LIVE featuring OneRepublic will air on SiriusXM Hits 1 (ch. 2) on Wednesday, December 14 at 9:00 pm ET and on The Pulse (ch. 5) at 10:00 pm ET and will be available to stream on the SXM App.

GRAMMY nominated OneRepublic, is comprised of singer/songwriter and lead vocalist Ryan Tedder, guitarists Zach Filkins and Drew Brown, keys Brian Willett, bassist and cellist Brent Kutzle, and drummer Eddie Fisher. Country Music Hall Of Fame And Museum And University Of Illinois Press Sign Agreement To Release Music Books

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the University of Illinois Press are partnering to co-publish and distribute books on country music and related music styles. Under a newly signed agreement, the museum and the university press will collaborate to co-publish new works, as well as distribute titles released under the museum’s longstanding publishing arm, CMF Press, including reissuing significant out-of-print historical works,

The first release in the partnership is Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock, the museum’s new companion book to its major multi-year exhibition of the same name. Now available for the first time in bookstores nationwide and online outlets, the illustrated book traces the impact of the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, the Eagles, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt and many more, along with the next wave of L.A. roots music ushered in by the Blasters, Lone Justice, Los Lobos, Dwight Yoakam and others. The book, which includes more than 160 artifact and archival photos, features a foreword by Ronstadt and main essay by longtime L.A. music journalist Randy Lewis, among other essays from recording artists, musicians and historians. University of Illinois Press and the museum’s CMF Press have each released some of the most important and authoritative works exploring traditional country and roots music topics. Collectively, these books have been honored with prestigious awards in the field, including the Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Award, the ASCAP Foundation Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award, the Belmont Book Award, the Irving Lowens Book Award and others.

“The University of Illinois Press has an impressive track record of releasing important books examining the broad spectrum of music and documenting American culture,” said Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. “The collaboration is a perfect fit to continue our museum’s longstanding commitment of reaching beyond our gallery walls via book publishing and other media platforms to explore the rich heritage of country music and its important contributions to history.”

“The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is a national treasure that shares our vital mission to document and celebrate roots music culture and its makers,” said Laurie Matheson, director of the University of Illinois Press. “We are excited to build on the synergies of this partnership in extending the reach and impact of country music publications.”

The next release from the partnership will come in the Spring 2023 with the reissue of the long out-of-print title DeFord Bailey: A Black Star in Early Country Music by David C. Morton with Charles K. Wolfe. Known as the “Harmonica Wizard” for his virtuosity on the instrument, DeFord Bailey (1899-1982) was a founding member of the Grand Ole Opry and among its most popular early performers, touring with such well-known Opry acts as Roy Acuff, the Delmore Brothers and Bill Monroe. This biography tells the story of a pioneering Black star in early country music in rich and fascinating detail. The book’s original publication in 1991 helped pave the way for Bailey’s election to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005. The reissued book will include a new chapter on Bailey’s thoughts about race relations, more than 40 photographs and a complete session discography. Since the 1980s, CMF Press — the book publishing arm of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum — has published some of the most significant titles about the art, business and culture of country music. SiriusXM Announces ‘Artist Accelerator Program’; Coco Jones Selected As The First Artist To Be Amplified

Today, SiriusXM announced a new Artist Accelerator program that aims to develop and break new artists by leveraging the massive combined audience of the company’s flagship premium subscription service, SiriusXM, and its ad-supported streaming service, Pandora. Created by the SiriusXM and Pandora programming and curation teams, the Artist Accelerator puts a spotlight on emerging artists and aims to remove barriers created by today’s song-first-driven culture to help artists grow their listener base and build fandom.

“Introducing our audiences to new artists and investing in those artists’ development is a core value of both SiriusXM and Pandora and we are excited to unveil our Artist Accelerator program to the industry,” said Steve Blatter, Senior Vice President/General Manager, Music Programming, SiriusXM. “The program brings together SiriusXM and Pandora to accelerate the growth of artists across our combined massive listener base.”

Over the course of a year, the Artist Accelerator program is expected to select six to twelve artists across a wide range of genres, who will receive focused programming for a sustained campaign across SiriusXM channels and Pandora stations, as well as various ongoing marketing support from both brands. Leveraging the reach of SiriusXM’s broadcast network and Pandora’s personalized radio offering, the Artist Accelerator program is unlike any other, exposing selected artists to over 100 million listeners to help them succeed.

The SiriusXM and Pandora programming and curation teams have selected Coco Jones as the first artist to be amplified in the Artist Accelerator program. SiriusXM is the first radio outlet to support Jones’ latest Single, “I.C.U.,” from her debut EP What I Didn’t Tell You, playing it in accelerated rotation beginning October 21, 2022, on The Heat and Heart & Soul. The Heat has named Jones a “Future Fire” artist, while Heart & Soul has named the song a “Platinum Pick.” Aligning with SiriusXM, Pandora has advanced support of the song across its platform, including exclusive content via Takeover modes running on Women in R&B and Platinum.

Coco Jones has been on the big screen— film and on TV since she was a tween; she’s currently the new Hilary Banks in Peacock’s Fresh Prince reboot, Bel-Air. You also may have seen her on the tiny screen—with nearly 2 million TikTok followers, dedicated to upping representation for proud, talented, dark-skinned Black women. Now, Jones can be heard, as the multi-faceted artist leans into music craftsmanship with a brand of R&B as soulful as it is relatable, as diary-honest as it is marked by powerful storytelling.

Coco Jones – the 24-year-old multi-hyphenate actor, singer and creator who just this year saw a star-turn on the Peacock hit Bel-Air and her major-label debut single “Caliber” – has been in film and on TV since she was a tween, starting out as a recurring guest on Disney’s musical sketch comedy, So Random!, and, in 2012, as the golden-voiced love interest in the network’s TV movie, Let It Shine. You also may have seen her on the tiny screen—with millions of social media followers, dedicated to upping representation for proud, talented, dark-skinned Black women.

In 2020, in an act of vulnerability and bravery, Jones decided to respond to a viral tweet asking what had happened with her career via YouTube . She filled fans in on obstacles she’d faced as a dark-skinned Black girl in both the acting and music industry and was met with an outpour of support. “It reignited me dreaming big dreams,” Jones says of the endearing online experience. From there, she began speaking positive affirmations, claiming the creative endeavors she longed to sink her teeth into.
Fast-forward to 2022, she’s currently the new Hilary Banks in Peacock’s Fresh Prince reboot, Bel-Air and the multi-faceted Ms. Jones, signed to Def Jam Recordings, at last launching her music career with a brand of R&B as soulful as it is relatable, as diary-honest as it is marked by powerful storytelling.

Booker T. & The MG’s Set To Reissue ‘Green Onions’ For 60th Anniversary On February 24, 2023

Sixty years ago, Booker T. & The MG’s transformed an impromptu studio jam into one of the most-popular instrumentals ever recorded, “Green Onions.” An instant hit when it came out in the summer of 1962, the single topped the R&B chart and peaked at #3 on the pop chart before selling a million copies. That fall, the song became the title track to the band’s debut album, which, coincidentally, was also the first album released on Stax Records, the legendary Memphis-based record company that shaped the sound of Southern Soul in the Sixties.

In celebration of this classic album’s anniversary, Rhino is releasing a newly remastered version on green vinyl. GREEN ONIONS: 60th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION will be available on February 24 on 180-gram translucent green “onion” vinyl. The music also will be available the same day on CD and from digital and streaming services. The newly remastered version of “Mo’ Onions” from the reissue is available today digitally.

The music has been completely remastered for this edition and the album packaging features all new liner notes by American author David Ritz, who interviewed two of the group’s founding members – Booker T. Jones and Steve Cropper – for this release.

Jones and Cropper tell the story of how – along with Lewie Steinberg (bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums) – they accidently created a masterpiece. As the house band for Stax Records, the quartet was booked to record demos, but the scheduled singer arrived too hoarse to record. Instead of packing up, the band stayed and started noodling on a blues riff.

Jim Stewart, the owner of Stax, was engineering the session that day. He liked what he heard and began recording the band without telling them. When they finished, he liked it so much that he wanted to release it immediately as a single. The group agreed and returned to the studio to write and record a B-side for the new song they named “Behave Yourself.”

Back in the studio, Cropper asked Jones to play a riff he’d played during a recent show. In the liner notes, Jones recalls the moment: “I’d forgotten those riffs…so I asked Steve to stand next to the organ and help refresh my memory. I played several licks before Steve stopped and shouted, ‘That’s it!’ He identified the opening notes of what would become ‘Green Onions.’ The song burst to life on the spot.”

The next day, Cropper took the then-unnamed-B-side to a local deejay who played it on the air four times in a row. The station’s phones lit up with callers asking where they could buy the song. Naturally, “Green Onions” graduated to the A-side, and the rest is history.

Today, the popularity of “Green Onions” continues to grow. Everyone from The Blues Brothers to Count Basie, and Deep Purple to Mongo Santamaría has covered the funky and soulful instrumental. It’s appeared in a long list of films and televisions shows, including Quadrophenia, Get Shorty, The Sopranos, and Ken Burn’s The Vietnam War. The Library of Congress added it to the National Recording Registry in 2012, and the Grammyâ Awards gave it the Grammyâ Hall of Fame Award in 1999. In addition to physical sales, the song has been streamed nearly 200 million times to date.

Neon Bloom Perfectly Captures The Breakup In New Single ‘Novocaine’

Death, taxes, and heartbreak – these are the inevitability of life. There is no one among us who hasn’t felt the pain of a breakup, and Neon Bloom captures this feeling in its latest release, “Novocaine.”

The group’s first foray into hip hop, “Novocaine” touches on the stress of a failing relationship, when two people know deep down that they should walk away but can’t quite bring themselves to do it, and the difficult aftermath when all that’s left is to pick up the pieces.

“The title, ‘Novocaine,’ refers to the delusional desire after a breakup for some sort of quick-fix that will numb the sting of a lost love, leaving one blissfully ignorant and pain-free,” the group explained.

Underneath the lyrics is a slow, rhythmic beat that evokes feelings of pain and mystery, making listeners feel like they’re going through it themselves. Vocalist Jen Simpson provides the punch, detailing the fallout of a collapsed couple in the song:

“Novocaine
For love pains. Always falling
Do it again,
Like we knew what love was then.”

The verses dive deeper into the abyss of heartbreak and the internal torment it can bear – “Feeling so alive, but like a zombie though.”

The single is part of Neon Bloom’s “Still Life,” the EP that was created and recorded from each member’s individual homes during the height of the pandemic. The musicians sent clips and ideas back and forth to one another, eventually piecing together what would become the band’s fourth project.

The track was abnormal for Neon Bloom in more ways than one. The pandemic made things strange enough, but it was also the group’s entry into a new sound.

“Not only was our writing and recording process very different for this EP, but ‘Novocaine’ specifically was a major departure for us in terms of genre,” the band said. “It’s our first attempt at a hip-hop track and features bassist Fred Yurichuk’s high school friend, Mark Cruz, scratching in the bridge. Mark is an established scratcher who sent his contributions from Calgary, continuing the collaboration-by-distance trend.”

Also unconventional is the music video for “Novocaine,” which features professional dancers Marissa Ricci and Tyler Angell performing improvisational, interpretive dance around Simpson on a rooftop basketball court located close to the Lansdowne subway station in Toronto. The court’s open space juxtaposed to the dancer’s closeness to Simpson display the simultaneous feelings of the infinite unknown but finite room at the conclusion of a relationship.

Chance Brown Releases Alt.Country Folk-Blues “This World’s On Fire” Album

Chance Brown is a singer-songwriter with a troubled soul that applies gentle dulcet tones to his debut album ‘This World’s On Fire’, a perfect mix of alt-country, folk blues, and ultra-raw storytelling.

Originally hailing from Vancouver Island with his roots firmly set in Victoria B.C. Chance Brown has risen amongst the alt-country scene to be one of the most prolific artists in Canada. His drawling vocals have harmonic hints of Ray LaMontagne, James Morrison, and Paolo Nutini.

His sound draws on simple vocal runs layered with traditional alt county instruments offering that perfect combination of melodic acoustic guitar, mandolin, and close-knit harmonies. His main two influences are Gord Downie and Justin Townes Earle which clearly stand out in his compositions.

‘This World’s On Fire’ came about with the end of a heartbreaking relationship which Chance penned as one of his influences to write, compose, and record the album.

He says “About a week after it ended, I listened back to the last practice. What I found in that thrashy improv was “Helium”, It was all there, word for word. I knew I had something good. So, from there, I began to write fervently.”

The album was recorded at NBS Studios in Victoria BC with Josh Carlsen at the helm. As well as vocals and guitar, Chance takes up the mandolin, harmonica, Rhodes Piano, and Percussion duties. With Josh laying down some Bass and Chris Banks working the drums. Produced in collaboration with Chance and Josh the album features 10 strong alt-country-infused songs each telling a different story.

Chance explains song themes, “There’s a few breakup songs, there’s songs inspired by a family member’s apparent attempt at suicide, my own close calls in substance-induced-auto-wrecks as well as just plain global pyromania.”

There’s no filter with Chance, he doesn’t pull any punches and lays everything down bare on this album. It’s an ode to life, his life. It’s therapy.

Stand-out tracks include the single ‘Helium’. A melodic gentle passion plea to his failed relationship. It floats along with ease and although it has dark undertones, there is a line of hope that runs right through the song.

Every time I try to argue,
Nothing ever works out right.
Maybe if I learned to listen
I’d be beside you tonight.

In a complete flip of pace, we have ‘Colour’ which shows the versatility of Chance’s songwriting. This alt-country rock beats like a train that’ll have your foot-stomping and hand-tapping with its urgency. Influences of blues rock and long-drawn single electric guitars notes this track. Destructive themed lyrics

Where will you go now that you’re so cold and alone, your fear has overcome you babe it’s soaked you through the bone.
You don’t have to speak, though there’s nothing you could say and there’s no one left to listen to your bullshit anyway.
Oh you gave it all away, now you’ve got nothing left on your dying day

Chance isn’t self-deprecating through this album; he just tells it like it is at the time.

“All of the songs are tragic as my worldview at the time of writing, they spark from friction born of their inherent calamity and together they form a distinct image. ‘This World’s On Fire’. So, let’s sit back enjoy some sweet music and watch it burn.”

Before Ontario-based artist, Harley Olivia embarked on a solo career, her efforts intertwined with several heavy-metal and punk bands. Harley performed in crowd-pleasing acts filled with clowns, confetti, and anything else commonly found in a pop-up circus tent. But while she was leading audiences in balloon sword battles, she leaned into her fascination for a solo project, one that dug straight into what she wished her music could convey. And “Diggin’” is that result.

When Harley toured with the band Anthems In Ashes, the group was awarded first place in the Jack Daniels Supporting Act Competition. This was no small feat for the title, but this award also paved a clear path to work and companionship with JUNO Award-Winning Producer Siegfried Meier (Face to Face, Kittie, Sectorseven, Woods of Ypres).

Harley followed this friendship and soon found herself back in the studio with Siegfried to work on her new single “Diggin’,” who co-wrote and produced the tune, out now.

“I wrote Diggin’ in response to a toxic ex who refused to listen to reason or reach any kind of settlement on the grounds that I broke their heart. As the battle raged on and the mess got bigger, I tortured myself until I discovered what was truly going on. They were playing the victim to make me suffer,” Harley said.

The three-minute track begins with a quiet keyboard opening up and culminates with a drum beat before Harley sings, “It’s crazy when the life you had suddenly changed.”

From the get-go, Harley dread-filled and anger-tinged voice bleeds through the record, conveying a story of anxiety and regret to the listener.

“Diggin’ was a way for me to take my power back without causing more drama in my personal life. Singing this song is a release but in the best way! It’s dynamic and messy – just like a breakup, but its strong beat and punchy rhythm was what got me back on my feet and excited about writing and performing again.”

Siegfried and Harley collaborated on the break-up anthem during the early days of the COVID lockdown. The pair co-wrote the track at Beach Road Studios. The time spent reminiscing and reflecting on the toxic relationship shines through the song’s production.

Harley’s solid, deep rock voice transports us to this specific relationship, and we almost feel as if we are intruding on a personal moment. The emotions conjured while she “digs” through the past echo through the “I keep pushing harder and what I found would shock you all, I keep getting quicker, but I won’t stop it now” lyrics.

“Breakups are complicated. In my past, anytime I’ve broken up with someone, I’ve been judged or demonized for breaking their heart when staying in the relationship would have been much worse.”

This anger powers the tune found while Harley dug and dug to get to the root of the relationship’s problems. “They say oh they say I am making a mistake,” she sings in a slow, teasing voice while the background electric guitar, drums, and keyboard knock on a metaphorical door. A door just out of reach exemplifies the inaccessibility of a toxic relationship.

Heady stuff for sure, but one you’ll be “Diggin’” with each listen.
