SXSW 2026 Announces First 100 Showcasing Artists for Its 40th Music Festival

0

South by Southwest has just announced the first 100 Showcasing Artists and the first 50 Showcase Presenters for its historic 40th Music Festival. These multi-hyphenate, genre-busting musicians represent the full breadth of global talent confirmed to perform at SXSW 2026 (March 12–18). Platinum-selling rock band The All-American Rejects will kick off the festivities performing at the SXSW Music Opening Party presented by Rivian.

Notable additions from the first 100 Showcasing Artists for the SXSW Music Festival include the enigmatic UK musician Milo Korbenski, whose lo-fi art-pop blends optimism and emotion through catchy hooks, clever lyrics, and hazy distortion. Balancing torn-cone grit with sweet synths and layered vocals, his sound nods to Kurt Vile, The xx, Black Sabbath and Siouxsie Sioux while remaining distinctly his own.

KOAD, the 22-year-old rapper, producer, and songwriter from the San Fernando Valley, blends classic West Coast hip-hop with nostalgic Bollywood influences. Experimental electropop artist and producer DJ_Dave will also perform, introducing audiences to the art of making music using live coding. Brooklyn-based songwriter Hudson Freeman’s star is officially on the rise in the alternative folk scene. The recent success of his stripped-down single “If You Know Me” stands as the Texas-born artist’s breakout moment.

L.A. based Indie Rock group The Sophs have also joined the SXSW® 2026 lineup. The six-piece collective is proving that bands still matter in an age of solo artists. Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter runo plum will roll into Austin, Texas to deliver a dose of cathartic indie rock.

Additional highlights from the first 100 Showcasing Artists for the SXSW Music Festival include FineLa TexanaChalk, and Grrrl Gang.

XG Announce Debut Album ‘The Core – 核’ Out January 23 and Jurin’s Solo Debut Single ‘PS118’

0

Global hip-hop/R&B-inspired girl group XG have officially unveiled the title of their long-awaited debut album — ‘The Core – 核’ — set for release on January 23 via XGALX. The announcement follows a wave of fan speculation that began when the group posted a single image featuring the kanji “核” (meaning “core” or “nucleus”), later confirmed to represent both their upcoming world tour and their artistic vision. The album is described as a declaration of XG’s deepest essence, exploring their creative DNA through a sound that transcends genres, eras, and borders while staying true to their identity as pioneers of X-pop.

‘The Core – 核’ marks a defining chapter for XG, whose music has long embodied empowerment, experimentation, and unity. The album aims to strip away surface-level trends and return to the foundation of what makes their artistry distinct — authenticity and innovation. Fans can expect a record that’s as introspective as it is bold, celebrating growth, collaboration, and sonic evolution. Alongside the announcement, group leader Jurin will make her solo debut as Jurin Asaya with the single ‘PS118’ featuring acclaimed North Carolina rapper Rapsody, out November 18 via XGALX. Built on an old-school hip-hop foundation, the track bridges cultures and generations, embodying the spirit of collaboration that continues to define XG’s expanding universe.

Lydia May Ignites with Fierce New Single ‘DROP DEAD GORGEOUS’

0

Melbourne-born alt-pop powerhouse Lydia May unleashes her fiery new single ‘DROP DEAD GORGEOUS,’ a bold, theatrical anthem that blends 80s rock energy with fearless self-expression. After electrifying crowds while supporting Eileen Alister’s UK tour and hosting an exclusive fan listening party in London, May’s latest release stands as a cathartic declaration of confidence and self-acceptance. Produced by Joey Walker (Liang Lawrence) at RYP Recordings, ‘DROP DEAD GORGEOUS’ channels May’s trademark mix of drama, defiance, and heart, cementing her as one of the most exciting new voices in alt-pop.

“I’ve felt the pressure to contort my body and mind to feel gorgeous for years,” says May. “I don’t want to feel small or weak anymore, like I was close to dropping dead. Writing this song was so fulfilling and made me feel HOT. This feels like the first song that aligns with the artist I’ve always wanted to become — bold and unapologetically myself.” With its irresistible attitude, shredding guitars, and unflinching honesty, ‘DROP DEAD GORGEOUS’ opens the door to May’s highly anticipated debut EP, setting the stage for an artist who turns vulnerability into power and pain into pure electricity.

Elise Trouw Confronts Toxic Ideals with Bold New Single ‘The Perfect Girl’

0

Elise Trouw’s new single ‘The Perfect Girl’ is a sharp, satirical pop reflection on growing up under the weight of judgment and image. The song recalls a memory from her school days when a “hot or not” list circulated through the halls — a moment that exposed how easily people’s worth can be reduced to appearance. That memory now fuels one of Trouw’s most daring releases, pairing biting commentary with irresistible pop energy.

Serving as the second preview of her upcoming concept album ‘The Diary of Elon Lust,’ out February 13 via Midtopia, the track is sung from the perspective of Elon — a fictional male character who embodies the shallow standards of beauty culture. In the accompanying video, Trouw plays Elon as a smug lecturer teaching how to rate women, blending humor with discomfort. Across bright hooks and smart production, she dismantles the absurdity of objectification while keeping it dangerously catchy. The 14-track ‘The Diary of Elon Lust’ continues this approach, exploring themes of masculinity, manipulation, and modern identity — all through Trouw’s fearless lens as writer, producer, and director.

Tracklist:

  1. All You Need Is Lust
  2. The Perfect Girl
  3. She Was Naked
  4. (I Like My Women) Shaved
  5. BJE
  6. 18
  7. Gentleman
  8. A Little Blood
  9. You’re More Fun When You’re Drunk
  10. Blue Ball Blues
  11. If I Was a Girl
  12. The Butt Is the Face of the Back
  13. Beta Male
  14. Because You Are Hot

Agnostic Front Release New Video for ‘Sunday Matinee’ from ‘Echoes in Eternity’

0

New York hardcore legends Agnostic Front have unleashed the official video for ‘Sunday Matinee,’ a nostalgic and powerful anthem from their new album ‘Echoes in Eternity’ via Reigning Phoenix Music. The track honors the iconic Sunday matinee shows that defined a generation of punk and hardcore fans at CBGB, a place where community and chaos collided. “In this song, we celebrate the gathering of friends, families and the joyous times when we all looked forward to our Sunday Matinee,” says frontman Roger Miret. “Those classic CBGB lineups built lifelong bonds — it was true social media at its finest!”

‘ Echoes in Eternity’ captures everything that defines Agnostic Front: raw energy, uncompromising honesty, and a deep connection to their roots. With explosive riffs, socially conscious lyrics, and unrelenting passion, the record stands as both a reflection and a rallying cry for unity and authenticity in a fractured world. Decades into their career, Agnostic Front continue to lead the charge, keeping the New York hardcore spirit alive for new generations across the globe.

Toronto Indie Rock Trio BBQ Pope Return with New Album ‘UNFURL’

0

Toronto indie rock trio BBQ Pope return with their long-awaited sophomore album ‘UNFURL,’ a raw and heartfelt reflection on grief, growth, and navigating the uncertainties of adulthood. Written after a three-year hiatus and shaped by friendship, loss, and perseverance, the nine-song record captures a band coming into its own. “This is the first time recording a record where I really felt like I wasn’t faking it,” says Reid Millar. “It feels like we came into our own sonically.” Produced by Dylan Frankland (Tallies) at Wychwood Sound, ‘UNFURL’ balances heaviness and gratitude, pairing emotional honesty with the DIY drive that has defined BBQ Pope from the start.

At the core of the album is “Pool Hall,” a cathartic and deeply personal track about grief’s dual nature — pain and gratitude coexisting as one. Inspired by the passing of a close friend, the song explores memory and love through the lens of familiar Toronto landmarks, transforming nostalgia into a living, breathing remembrance. “The reason grief is so painful is because you loved someone so deeply,” Millar shares. “It’s the price you pay for knowing that person and eventually you learn to be grateful for those memories.” With ‘UNFURL,’ BBQ Pope delivers their most focused work to date, a testament to resilience, creativity, and the enduring bond between friends.

The track’s cranked-up energy and good-time spirit shine through every frame, airing all November on the network dedicated to celebrating the best in country music videos. Julian Lage Announces New Album ‘Scenes from Above’ Out January 23, 2026

0

Guitar virtuoso Julian Lage has announced the January 23 release of Scenes from Above, his fifth Blue Note album, the second made in collaboration with revered producer Joe Henry, and his first with a striking new quartet featuring keyboardist John Medeski, bassist Jorge Roeder, and drummer Kenny Wollesen. The album is introduced today with the gorgeous invocation “Opal” which is accompanied by a live performance video.

Where 2024’s GRAMMY-nominated Speak to Me was Lage’s grand statement as an improvising bandleader helming an ensemble through a diverse set of tunes, Scenes from Above is about being a band member himself, about Lage exploring the tunes he has written with a crew he has built with that entirely in mind. Its nine tracks frame a brilliantly open experience, with four astounding players giving and taking space in equal measure as they explore these songs in one space, in real time.

“I came in with a desire to present this as an egalitarian thing, rather than ‘I’m the leader — let’s build something around me,’” Lage says. “This is music that’s connected to our own growth and development individually and within our relationships with one another, with no sense that anybody’s expecting anything.”

The album’s nine compositions resulted from what Lage calls a writing sprint ahead of a residency at SFJAZZ which marked the live debut of the band. As he thought about each of their qualities as players and hypothesized about how they might interact, he set a timer for 20 minutes, wrote a tune, recorded it once, and then began again. “My dream with composing, really, is to have something to talk about once we’re together,” he says. “It’s not the end-all, be-all.”

“Julian really thinks about things, has a lot of intention,” says Medeski. “But it’s a beautiful combination of caring about the concept and direction and of being free and in the moment.” Scenes from Above radiates both qualities in tandem, and that’s what makes the album so poignant and timely.

Scenes from Above is available for pre-order now on black vinyl, CD, and digital download, as well as a color vinyl variant available exclusively on the Julian Lage Artist Store and the Blue Note Store.

The track listing for Scenes from Above is as follows:

1. Opal (Lage)
2. Red Elm (Lage)
3. Talking Drum (Lage)
4. Havens (Lage)
5. Night Shade (Lage)
6. Solid Air (Lage)
7. Ocala (Lage)
8. Storyville (Lage)
9. Something More (Lage)

Lage has also announced upcoming touring including a tour of Japan, a performance at the Big Ears Festival, and a concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London with additional touring to be announced soon. For complete details and ticket information, please visit www.julianlage.com/tour.
