Professor Longhair’s 1975 Performance, Live On The Queen Mary, Presented By Paul And Linda McCartney, To Receive Special Reissue April 5

Originally released in 1978 on Harvest Records, Professor Longhair’s Live on the Queen Mary documents a legendary performance from the Venus and Mars album release party thrown by Paul and Linda McCartney and Wings in 1975.

Live on the Queen Mary was recorded March 24, 1975 on its titular cruise ship, while docked in Long Beach, California. Highlights include the rollicking “Mess Around”, the standards “Stagger Lee”, “Everyday I Have the Blues”, “I’m Movin’ On”, and Professor Longhair’s own hits “Mardi Gras in New Orleans” and “Tipitina” about which Hugh Laurie writes, “Because that live version of Tipitina, oh sweet Lord. If the record had nothing else on it, it would still be a treasure beyond price.”

Live On The Queen Mary will be re-released April 5 via Harvest, across digital platforms, on CD, and on newly remastered 180gram vinyl. The album will feature a foreword by Hugh Laurie, as will the limited edition “Long Live Fess” deluxe which will also feature the 180gram LP, the double A-Side 7” Single “Tipitina”/” Mess Around”, and more.

Professor Longhair a/k/a Henry Roeland “Roy” Byrd (December 19, 1918 – January 30, 1980) was a New Orleans blues singer and pianist. He was active in two distinct periods, first in the heyday of early rhythm and blues and later on during the resurgence of interest in traditional jazz surrounding the beginnings of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Professor Longhair’s influence was crucial to many of his fellow New Orleans musical legends such as Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint and Dr. John, all of whom were touched by his rumba, mambo, and calypso piano based blues sound.

Following this month’s deluxe vinyl releases of David Sylvian’s solo albums, Brilliant Trees, Alchemy – An Index of Possibilities, Gone To Earth and Secrets of the Beehive, March 29th will see the release of the cult classic 1991 album, Rain Tree Crow.

Featuring David Sylvian, Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri and Mick Karn, Rain Tree Crow also features contributions from Bill Nelson, Phil Palmer and Michael Brook. The majority of the material on the album grew out of group improvisations. There were no pre-rehearsals; the improvisation took place in the recording studio and much of the finished work contains original elements of those initial performances. Rain Tree Crow is pressed on 180gram vinyl and contains a download card.

Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan Releases “Tenderness” From His Upcoming Solo Album

Guns N’ Roses bassist and New York Times bestselling author Duff McKagan has released “Tenderness”, the stunning first track from his much-anticipated solo album, and was produced by and features recent GRAMMY winner Shooter Jennings.

McKagan, backed by Shooter and his band, recently announced two special performances: May 30th at TLA in Philadelphia and May 31st at City Winery in DC. Tickets for both shows go on sale today.

McKagan and Jennings began recording back in March 2018, working out of Station House studios in Echo Park, CA, where they wrote and recorded in-between McKagan’s tour with seminal rock band Guns N’ Roses and the release of Jennings’ eponymous album, Shooter.

“Before beginning this project, I was asked more than a few times if I was going to write a book on my experience of the two-and-a-half-year GN’R Not In This Lifetime … tour,” says McKagan. “While, of course, it had been an amazing experience, in the end, I decided the ideas swirling around in my head were better suited for a record. The heartbreak, anger, fear, confusion and divide I have experienced traveling this globe of ours coerced these words into songs that tell my truth, and one that I hope will spread and help us all.”

Looking at the world outside his tour bus window, McKagan saw a landscape filled with disillusion, injustice and fear. Surveying this vista of ruin, its street littered with broken and abandoned promises, he channeled a collective hurt into songs of monolithic power.

“The real point of ‘Tenderness’ is not for me to be some damn politician or some other voice to add to what is already way too much noise,” he says. “This is a song of unity and peace…and I want this record to be a meditation and to bring maybe some healing, if that is not too high-handed or lofty of a goal. I can use what marginal voice I have as an artist, to hopefully help arrest what seems like a fall. As a father, I must say and do something now…because I love my girls and my wife, and I love my country, and I feel I must be strong and use my voice now, do it while I am able, or perhaps never get a chance ever again.”

“From the start of the development of this record, ‘Tenderness’ stood out as a focal point,” says Jennings. “I was almost scared to cut it too early – before we had really mined the sound of the album. I knew we had one shot to do it right with feeling. After it was done and we had a first mix, I wrote Duff and said ‘this song has to come out right now!’ It has a simple message of celebrating life and each other and for everyone to take it easy on one another. It offered an empathetic solution for a divisive time in the world: Tenderness.”

About his collaboration with Jennings, McKagan says, “Fortune shone my way when Shooter and I began to work on the structures of the songs. Shooter has a brilliant mind, and a seemingly endless musical catalogue bouncing around in his head that he’s ready to tap into at any moment. He believed in this thing from day one, and that gave me the confidence and energy to forge on. Shooter, seemingly, can play any musical instrument, but instead of that being sort of daunting to me, he works in such an honest way that I never once felt like I was in the company of a guy trying to show me up. The contrary was in fact true. He made me a better acoustic guitar player, and more at ease as a singer. His ability to get real and authentic sounds in the studio are second to none, and making this record was one of the most inspiring musical experiences of my career.”

The upcoming album is McKagan’s musical follow-up to 2015’s bestselling book, How To Be A Man (And Other Illusions).

C. F. Martin & Co. (Martin Guitar) will introduce their brand-new Modern Deluxe Series at Winter NAMM in Anaheim, California, January 24-27, 2019. The new series combines sophistication and performance to create a truly unique playing experience.

The Modern Deluxe Series is offered in four styles: D-18, D-28, 000-28, and OM-28. Each model is packed with custom features and modern technology that you have to see, feel, and hear for yourself.

The vintage appointments offered in the Modern Deluxe Series include a Sitka spruce Vintage Tone System (VTS) top, VTS Adirondack spruce braces, a dovetail neck joint, and natural protein glue construction. “The most scintillating, inspiring collective moments of my life have been outdoors in the summer exploding with music,” says Third Eye Blind frontman, Stephan Jenkins. “Those sensations travel from when I was a little kid and rock music was brand new to our last Summer Gods tour, when everything is magically new again. I seek to create that exact blissed-out state of aliveness on tour this summer.”

Third Eye Blind has announced the 35-city Summer Gods Tour, together with Jimmy Eat World. Ra Ra Riot will join on all shows as tour opener. Produced by Live Nation, the North American amphitheater tour will kick off June 14 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, with dates in Chicago, Atlanta, Houston and more, before wrapping August 3 in Irvine, CA at FivePoint Amphitheatre. Touring in the summer “feels like more of a festival thing, because Third Eye Blind takes a lot of time in picking out the bands to play with us,” Jenkins tells iHeartRadio’s on-air personality, Andrew Harms, in an exclusive interview that ran earlier this morning across iHeartMedia’s network of Alternative stations.

Following rare club dates in LA and NYC to try out new music, Third Eye Blind is now back in studio working on the follow up to Dopamine (2015) and 2018’s, Thanks for Everything, an EP of songs they love, with proceeds benefiting the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.

Third Eye Blind has been touring greener every year. Because the oceans need our help, the band and crew have been free of water bottles since 2017. This year, to offset the tour’s carbon footprint, Third Eye Blind will be voluntarily investing in a carbon offset project in Alaska managed by ClimeCo, The American Land Conservancy, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Additionally, to offset audience travel – the biggest source of carbon emissions from the tour – a portion of each ticket sold will support a US-based ClimeCo carbon offset project. “Music and surfing are all foundational in my life and the longer I go, the more so it is not a big step to seek to make our tours ocean friendly,” adds Jenkins. “Simple – skip single use plastic, carbon offsets and encourage other along the way.”

This Alaska-based offset project is the first of its kind in the region. It supports conservation work on Afognak Island which is home to a coastal temperate rainforest with old-growth trees that are between 180 and 250 years old, plus a regrowth of new trees from the past 30 years. Together, these new and old forests create the potential for absorbing millions of tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Apple Corps Ltd. and WingNut Films Ltd. are proud to announce an exciting new collaboration between The Beatles and the acclaimed Academy Award winning director Sir Peter Jackson. The new film will be based around 55 hours of never-released footage of The Beatles in the studio, shot between January 2nd and January 31st, 1969. These studio sessions produced The Beatles’ Grammy Award winning album Let It Be, with its Academy Award winning title song. The album was eventually released 18 months later in May 1970, several months after the band had broken up.

The filming was originally intended for a planned TV special, but organically turned into something completely different, climaxing with The Beatles’ legendary performance on the roof of Apple’s Savile Row London office — which took place exactly 50 years ago today.

Peter Jackson said, “The 55 hours of never-before-seen footage and 140 hours of audio made available to us, ensures this movie will be the ultimate ‘fly on the wall’ experience that Beatles fans have long dreamt about – it’s like a time machine transports us back to 1969, and we get to sit in the studio watching these four friends make great music together.”

Although The Beatles were filmed extensively during the 1960s – in concerts, interviews and movies – this is the only footage of any note that documents them at work in the studio.

The Let It Be album and movie, having been released in the months following The Beatles’ breakup, have often been viewed in the context of the struggle the band was going through at that time.

“I was relieved to discover the reality is very different to the myth,” continues Jackson, “After reviewing all the footage and audio that Michael Lindsay-Hogg shot 18 months before they broke up, it’s simply an amazing historical treasure-trove. Sure, there’s moments of drama – but none of the discord this project has long been associated with. Watching John, Paul, George, and Ringo work together, creating now-classic songs from scratch, is not only fascinating – it’s funny, uplifting and surprisingly intimate.”

“I’m thrilled and honoured to have been entrusted with this remarkable footage – making the movie will be a sheer joy.”

Jackson will be working with his They Shall Not Grow Old partners, Producer Clare Olssen and Editor Jabez Olssen. The footage will be restored by Park Road Post of Wellington, New Zealand, to a pristine standard, using techniques developed for the WW1 documentary film which has been nominated for a BAFTA for best documentary.

The untitled film is currently in production and the release date will be announced in due course. This film is being made with the full co-operation of Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon, and Olivia Harrison.

Following the release of this new film, a restored version of the original Let It Be movie directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg will also be made available.

Multi-Platinum singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera has announced that her exclusive headlining residency show, Christina Aguilera: The Xperience, will open at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Friday, May 31, 2019.

‪Christina Aguilera‪ is a six-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer-songwriter renowned for her powerful voice and hit songs. Throughout her career, she has sold more than 43 million records worldwide. Aguilera has achieved five No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart making her the fourth female artist to top the chart over three consecutive decades (1990s, 2000s, and 2010s). She has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and holds the prestigious honor of being the only artist under the age of 30 included in Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the 100 greatest singers of all time. In 2011 she entered the world of television as a coach on NBC’s Emmy Award nominated show The Voice. Aguilera has served as global spokesperson for Yum! Brands’ World Hunger Relief effort since 2009 and has helped raise over $150 million for the World Food Program and other hunger relief agencies.
