Demi Lovato Returns to Dance-Pop Glory with ‘It’s Not That Deep’

0

Today, GRAMMY-nominated global superstar Demi Lovato has released her ninth studio album It’s Not That Deep, via DLG Recordings/Island Records – listen HERE. Executive produced by Zhone (Kylie Minogue, Troye Sivan, Kesha), the 11-track album revisits the dance-pop sound laced throughout Demi’s previous hit records and brings a celebratory energy that’s about taking full control while letting inhibitions go. The album’s release is preceded by its sleek and sexy electro-pop lead single “Fast,” the fierce and infectious anthemic pop banger “Here All Night,” and the irresistible, fan-demanded single “Kiss,” from which the album title was born through the lyric “It’s not that deep, unless you want it to be.”

Speaking about the album, Demi said “This album represents an exciting chapter for me which has been filled with joy, freedom and lightness. Creating this album was the most fun I’ve ever had in the studio. Zhone is an incredible collaborator and it was so effortless working together to create a genuinely fun, celebratory album that is true to where I am now.” Demi continued, “It’s Not That Deep is about letting go of inhibitions and bringing out the carefree energy that lives in all of us and makes us want to dance all night long. I’m so excited for you all to finally dance with me.”

The album marks Demi’s highest reviewed album by Rolling Stone to date, praising the record as “a victory lap … she leans into playful synths, club-ready energy and free-flowing sonics that live up to the album’s title.” Demi will celebrate the release of the album with a one night only performance at the Hollywood Palladium on October 25, which sold out in just 20 minutes and prompted widespread demand for a tour, with over 200,000 registered accounts in the show’s ticket queue.

Alessia Cara Expands ‘Love & Hyperbole’ With Deluxe Edition and North American Tour

0

Today, GRAMMY Award-winning history-making superstar Alessia Cara unveils the deluxe edition of her acclaimed fourth full-length album, Love & Hyperbole, available now via Def Jam Recordings / Universal Music Canada.

She has notably added eight previously unreleased songs to this bold body of work as well as releasing a visual for stand out track “Fire”. Among the new material, “Easy” pairs softly plucked ethereal guitar with an inventive rhythm. The beat kicks into high gear and underlines a confession on the breezy chorus, “You don’t make it easy, I could get used to it.” Elsewhere, her warm delivery practically melts into a sultry beat and smooth bassline on “Sunday.” She softly sings, “You feel like Sunday when you touch me, wanna lay here a little more, you somehow make a bad thing not hurt anymore.” Then, there’s “Clean.”Eighties synths glimmer and glow, cymbals stutter, and her voice booms with confidence as she reminds a toxic ex, “No blood on my hands, baby I’m clean, your karma’s gonna come around.” She notably joined forces with R&B powerhouse Lucky Daye on a duet version of “(Isn’t It) Obvious),” and Tiny Habits on the smoldering “Fire.” She rounds out the deluxewith acoustic versions of “Dead Man” and “(Isn’t It) Obvious).”

Check out the full tracklisting below.

Of course, she preceded its release with the collaborative version of the fan favorite “Nighttime Thing” featuring Julia Michaels out now. Listen HERE. Julia adds another dimension to the song altogether, locking into a smooth and sultry back-and-forth with Alessia. Together, their voices uplift this lovestruck anthem highlighted by the unshakable hook, “I think I like you like that—like that.

Next week, Alessia will hit the road on an upcoming North American headline tour for two weeks. In advance of the first date in San Francisco on October 29 at The Fillmore, San Francisco Chronicle praised, “authenticity remains at the core of her music today, going on to marvel at how, “the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has continued to evolve, crafting introspective yet uplifting music anchored by her unmistakably soulful voice.” Following opening night in the Bay Area, this jaunt rolls down to Los Angeles, CA on October 30 for a show at the Orpheum theatre, crosses the country, and concludes on November 12 in Philadelphia, PA at Keswick Theatre.

Thus far, the original Love & Hyperbole has earned widespread acclaim.  GRAMMY.com raved, Love & Hyperbole is Cara’s most emotive album to date, and DIY awarded it “4-out-of-5 stars, proceeding to applaud, “Placed against a landscape of infectious basslines, sensual strings, and irresistible hooks, the record is a lesson in timings, accepting the past, and embracing an unwritten future.” Atwood Magazine christened it “her most intimate and raw work yet.” CLASH professed, “‘Love & Hyperbole’ is anthemic, self-aware and shows listeners how confident Alessia is in herself as an artist.”

She paved the way for Love & Hyperbole with the single “Slow Motion.” EUPHORIA. wrote, Cara has been experimenting more and more with jazz elements with this upcoming album, and “Slow Motion” is no different, going on to profess, “The beauty is in the general song.” Billboard attested, “For Alessia Cara, emotion and connection is at the heart of her creative endeavors — hence why each of her three studio albums live in a unique world full of signature concepts, colors and themes built around them. Her music isn’t just a listening experience, it’s a feeling. It arrived on the heels of the standout “(Isn’t It) Obvious,” which featured a guitar solo from John Mayer. The latter has already generated millions of streams and counting in addition to earning critical praise. Not to mention, she delivered a showstopping performance of the track on Good Morning America. Watch her performance HERE.

Daniel Caesar Explores Family, Faith, and Forgiveness on New Album ‘Son Of Spergy’

0

Daniel Caesar releases his new album Son Of Spergy via Republic Records. The follow-up to his Top 15 Billboard 200 charting album NEVER ENOUGH includes previously released singles “Have A Baby (With Me),” “Call On Me,” and most recently, “Moon,” all of which offer windows into the album’s central theme of reconciliation, specifically with his father. From the intoxicating “Root Of All Evil,” to the Bon Iver-assisted “Moon,” Caesar spends the album interrogating himself in pursuit of purer, healthier relationships.

As a wildly successful artist at such a young age, Caesar lived much of his 20s in self-indulgence. The only people who really ever told him no, who ever truly held him accountable, were his family members. Now, at 30 years old, he uses this album to animate his thoughts on core concepts: his own purpose on this Earth, what he means in relation to his parents, and how the world will change when he eventually becomes a dad. “I have a lot of respect for my dad, and I hold him in high regard. The album is about me realizing that I am exactly like him,” he shares. “In that sense, it’s about having patience, respect, and admiration for myself.”

Mainly recorded in Jamaica, Daniel is joined by SamphaBon IverBlood OrangeYebba646yf4t, and his own father, Norwill Simmonds, for an album that is both compositionally and melodically breathtaking. Ahead of the album’s release, Daniel put on a tour of pop-up, impromptu performances at parks in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Bozeman, Los Angeles, Houston, and Atlanta, performing intimate sets for massive crowds of fans. Daniel was joined by Mustafa for many of the performances and, in Los Angeles, Turnstile’s Brendan Yates performed a solo rendition of his band’s song “NEVER ENOUGH” on the keys. Earlier this week, Caesar wrapped up the string of moving performances with a pair of shows at the Harlem Parish Church.

Son Of Spergy was first teased with a video letter shared on socials and discussed in Daniel’s Billboard cover story. In a conversation with Tyler, The Creator for Billboard, the two discuss Daniel’s career to date, their creative relationship (especially as it pertains to Daniel’s extensive work across Tyler’s 2024 album CHROMAKOPIA), what fans can expect from Son Of Spergy and more. Earlier this year, Daniel joined forces with close friend and collaborator Rex Orange County for a special two-track bundle, “Rearrange My World / There’s A Field (That’s Only Yours).” More recently, Daniel was featured on “The Field,” from Blood Orange’s new album Essex Honey, alongside Caroline Polachek, Tariq Al-Sabir, and The Durutti Column, and contributed songwriting, backing vocals, and production to “DEVOTION” featuring Dijon on Justin Bieber’s critically acclaimed album, SWAG. Christina Kennedy Unveils Powerful New Single and Short Film ‘QUIT MY LIFE’

0

Today, Canadian singer-songwriter and rising pop artist, Christina Kennedy, announces the release of her intimate new single, “QUIT MY LIFE.” The track is a deeply cathartic and rich ballad that captures the internal chaos of wanting to disappear while longing to be understood. Sonically inspired by the push-and-pull production of NF and Julia Michaels’ “GONE,” the song balances an interchangeable bass hit with soft, atmospheric ballad elements, expressing the raw desire to escape a life that feels too heavy to bear. The intimate vocals cut through, creating an almost cinematic emotional release.

“I wrote this in a dark time, and for anyone out there who feels even remotely similar,” Christina added, “I hope this helps them through that cloudy time.”

A stunning, high-concept visual experience will follow with the premiere of the “QUIT MY LIFE” music video and short film on October 25th. Conceptualized and directed by Christina herself, the film boldly reimagines 1930s Hollywood through a 2025 lens, capturing a visual fusion between the elegant, wealthy class and today’s hyper-digital world. The music video is a powerful meta-commentary: the medium is the message. The narrative explores the growing disconnection between humanity and media, examining desensitization, the erosion of compassion, and the masks people wear in modern society, challenging the audience to reflect on the core question: “What you watch matters.” The visual palette draws on chiaroscuro lighting and surreal contemporary imagery—early Hollywood’s elegance colliding with the fast-paced emptiness of influencer culture.

In reference to her music video, Christina shared, “your next scroll matters, your watch retention matters, what you say matters, how you engage matters, what you watch matters, someone’s life matters.”

Kennedy’s previous releases have garnered notable attention, including coverage in Billboard Canada for her recent album releases and features in publications like The Partae and The Eyeopener for her Toronto concert debut. Her work continues to build a distinct lane in the pop landscape.

The Smashing Pumpkins Announce 30th Anniversary Deluxe Reissue Of ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’

0

On October 24, 1995, The Smashing Pumpkins released what would become one of the most iconic works of the decade: the sprawling double album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Now, thirty years later, the band is returning with a special deluxe reissue expanding on the original album, including eighty minutes of previously unreleased recordings from the 1996 tour in support of the album.

On November 21, three new versions of Mellon Collie will be available via UMe. The album and live material will hit DSPs, while there will also be a four-disc deluxe edition CD package, featuring new liner notes written by Billy Corgan. The band has also put together a limited edition boxset essential for the diehard fans, including Mellon Collie and the 1996 Infinite Sadness tour audio on four CDs and six LPs, the new liner notes in a hardbound book, a custom tarot card deck, and seven frameable lithographs, all housed in a velvet slipcase with a cloth carrying bag.

Included in all versions, the 1996 live material is a holy grail for longtime Pumpkins devotees. Only recently discovered, the recordings showcase the original lineup at the height of their powers. Listen to the newly discovered live track, “Geek U.S.A.” From The Infinite Sadness Tour ’96, now HERE.

“Unearthing these live recordings from the original lineup’s true, last large-scale tour was a labour of love, and for me certainly a bittersweet as once we blew apart in 1996, we were never quite the same: be it emotionally, or spiritually,” says Corgan “Thankfully, I can say this as the band is now enjoying our greatest public success since that time, and one can hear in these tapes the raw power that such nascent faith afforded us, then, and the will and wisdom to persevere that followed.”

By the time the Smashing Pumpkins released Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness, they had already announced themselves as one of the definitive rock bands of the ‘90s with 1991’s Gish and 1993’s Siamese Dream. While those two albums are classics in their own right, and the Pumpkins already had a host of beloved hits under their belts, Mellon Collie saw them ascend to a whole other level. Across the double album, Corgan threw everything he had at this music, resulting in some of the band’s most ubiquitous hits: “1979,” “Tonight, Tonight,” “Zero,” and “Bullet With Butterfly Wings.” Mellon Collie soon earned the Smashing Pumpkins seven Grammy nominations, including Album Of The Year and Record Of The Year, and would later attain Diamond certification from the RIAA. It lives on not only as one of the most pivotal albums of the ‘90s, but also as one of the great albums in the rock canon. The live material included in the reissue captures the band on a sprawling tour amidst the whirlwind that greeted Mellon Collie, at their most vital and performing songs that were already instant classics.

In addition to the expanded reissue, the Pumpkins will celebrate the album’s anniversary with two special collaborations. In late November, Corgan will team with the Lyric Opera of Chicago to present A Night Of Melon Collie And Infinite Sadness. Running for seven performances only, the concerts will feature reimagined versions of Mellon Collie — everything from the hits to beloved fan favorites like “Thirty-Three” and “Thru The Eyes Of Ruby” — with Corgan performing newly commissioned arrangements and orchestrations he made alongside conductor James Lowe. Corgan will be joined by soprano Sydney Mancasola, mezzo-soprano Zoie Reams, tenor Dominick Chenes, and baritone Edward Parks.

The Lyric performances will occur on November 21, 22, 25, 26, 28, 29, and 30. They also include costume design by House Of Gilles, from Gilles Mendel and Chloé Mendel Corgan, altogether promising an immersive sonic and visual experience that blurs the boundaries of opera,  rock, and performance art.

The homegrown celebration of Mellon Collie’s anniversary continues with another collaboration with Chicago’s famed Vosges Haut-Chocolat. Corgan and Vosges have joined forces for The Mellon Collie Sessions, a limited-edition chocolate box set. Available beginning October 21, the boxset includes a limited-edition poster and six chocolate bars — two each of unique flavors made with inspiration from Mellon Collie’s most famous songs. The “Zero” Black Raspberry Tea Bar combines dark chocolate and Forbidden Forest Lapsang Souchong tea from Madame Zuzu’s, the Highland Park tea house institution founded by Corgan and his wife in 2012. Similarly, the “Tonight Tonight” Electric Blue Matcha Bar infuses vegan white chocolate with Madame Zuzu’s Electric Blue Matcha, while the “1979” Kitchen Sink Bar throws pretzels, marshmallow, and rice crunch into a 72% dark chocolate.

The ‘20s have been a furiously productive decade for the Smashing Pumpkins, kicking off with Cyr in 2020, followed by the ambitious Atum: A Rock Opera In Three Parts which unfolded across 2022 and 2023, providing the next chapter in the stories begun on Mellon Collie and 2000’s Machina/The Machines Of God. The flood of inspiration continued into last year, with the critically acclaimed album Aghori Mhori Mei. Since then, the band have taken a moment to reflect on the achievements of the past, first re-releasing Machina this summer for its 25th anniversary, finally presenting the album as they’d always wished. Now, the multi-faceted celebration of Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness puts a capstone on 2025 before whatever the always adventurous Pumpkins do next.

Remastered in 4K for the first time, the film will feature an introduction from John Densmore and Robby Krieger and the worldwide exclusive debut of a newly recorded performance of “Riders on the Storm” featuring Densmore, Krieger, and special guests in partnership with Playing For Change. The film will release worldwide in theaters on December 4th and 6th.

The chemistry of four artists made The Doors one of America’s most influential rock bands. With rare footage shot from their formation in 1965 to Jim Morrison’s death in 1971, When You’re Strange, Tom DiCillo’s GRAMMY® Award-Winning film narrated by Johnny Depp, follows the band through their career, providing insight into the revolutionary impact of their music. On the occasion of the band’s 60th anniversary, the film will be presented in cinemas in 4K for the first time ever, and feature a newly recorded performance of “Riders on the Storm” featuring Densmore, Krieger, and special guests performing the song in exotic locations around the world in partnership with Playing For Change.

Playing For Change honors the timeless legacy of The Doors with “Riders on the Storm” Song Around The World, a powerful global collaboration featuring Densmore and Krieger, a tribute to Ray Manzarek, and the legendary vocals of Jim Morrison. Joined by over 20 musicians and dancers from 8 countries, this powerful performance is in celebration of The Doors’ 60th Anniversary and reimagines a classic anthem through the lens of unity, hope, and musical connection that knows no boundaries.

This monumental song also marks a full-circle moment as it will help support the first Playing For Change Foundation music school that was built in America, uplifting Indigenous communities and ensuring that the rhythms, stories, and voices that began this journey continue to inspire hearts around the world.

From the first beat of the Lakota Drum Group, grounding the song in ancestral rhythm, to magnetic performances by Lukas and Micah Nelson, Sierra Ferrell, and Rami Jaffee of the Foo Fighters, every note reminds us that music is a universal language that serves as a bridge to unite a global community. In a time when the world may feel divided, this Song Around The World stands as a testament to the power of music to heal, connect, and bring us together.

Emil Kárlsen Releases Self-Produced Single ‘Golggotmánu jurdagat’ Celebrating Autumn, Heritage, And Sound

0

Norwegian-Sámi musician and storyteller Emil Kárlsen returns with a new single, “Golggotmánu jurdagat” (“October’s thoughts”). Written and recorded entirely by Kárlsen himself in 2024, the track marks a milestone for the artist as his first self-produced release.

“The title translates to ‘October’s thoughts’, and the song reflects the mild and unusually long autumn that lingered, both in nature and in mood,” explains Emil.

“Golggotmánu jurdagat” features the contribution of Finnish violinist Tuomas Rounakari, whose soft play fits seamlessly into Emil’s intimate sonic landscape. The track was mixed by respected producer Ariel Joshua Sivertsen. The result is a warm and atmospheric track—perfectly in tune with the gentle shift of seasons, and a promising sign of what’s to come from this young artist.

Emil’s work is rooted in heritage while embracing the new. His signature sound—where ancient yoik meets modern songwriting—offers a rare and authentic perspective in the Nordic music scene. In addition to his musical career, Emil starred in the critically acclaimed Disney+ series “How to Cook a Bear,” further expanding his creative journey.

Songwriter, actor, yoiker, and producer Emil Ráste Karlsen—better known under his artist name Emil Kárlsen—is an indigenous multi-instrumentalist born in 1997, originally from the coastal Northern Sámi community of Omasvuotna/Storfjord. Combining traditional Sámi yoiks with melodic pop songwriting and a strong band foundation, Emil’s music offers a deeply rooted sound that bridges generations and cultures.

At the core of Emil’s artistry lies a powerful intent: to build connections between people, places, and time. After a decade of performing in Norwegian with his award-winning band Resirkulert, Emil made the deliberate choice to write in his mother tongue, Northern Sámi, and to revive the tradition of juoiggan (yoiking) in the coastal Sámi areas—a form of resistance and reclamation of identity through sound.

Emil is also a celebrated actor with the Sámi National Theatre Beaivváš and stars in the acclaimed Disney+ TV series To Cook a Bear. Yet, it is on stage as a musician that Emil feels most at home. Whether performing solo, with his band, or backed by a full orchestra, Emil Kárlsen delivers emotionally charged, magnetic performances that leave a lasting impact. Every concert is a living expression of his culture and charisma—never quite the same, and always unforgettable. Through music and art, Emil Kárlsen expresses gratitude that his culture not only survives but thrives.
