80% Of Deaf And Disabled Music Fans Experience Issues Buying Concert Tickets

0

The UK’s Attitude is Everything improves Deaf and disabled people’s access to live music by working in partnership with audiences, artists and the music industry.

Having begun as a pilot project in 2000, we are now a fully independent charity and part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio of Organisations. They encourage events producers to go beyond the legal obligations set out in the Equality Act and implement best practice, providing a fair and equal service to their Deaf and disabled customers.

Their 2018 State of Access Report examines the barriers faced by Deaf and disabled people when trying to book tickets for live music events, and sets out our vision for ticketing without barriers.

To bring this vision to life, they have convened a far reaching coalition of umbrella organisations, ticketing companies, venues and event companies, who have pledged to work together to remove barriers to ticketing: the Ticketing Without Barriers Coalition.

The coalition will enable members to exchange ideas, issues and solutions, and work towards a single, unified vision for what best practice means when it comes to facilitating access booking for Deaf and disabled people.

There Are Now Fonts In Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, And David Bowie’s Handwriting

0

The Songwriters fonts have been created to give musicians inspiration. Writing lyrics with the handwriting of influential songwriters helps imagination to develop. Being in the mood of Bowie, Cobain, Cohen, Gainsbourg, Lennon, might be purely imaginative… but that’s precisely the point.

Kurt Cobain formed the band Nirvana in 1987 and introduced to the world: the grunge music genre. He drew his inspiration from punk rock, blues and heavy metal, to create his own musical universe. Part tortured, part poetic, his unique writing did affect a generation forever.

The Kurt Font has been created from Kurt Cobain’s original handwritten letters and notes. This font is for a personal use only.

This year’s inductees are:

Director X – Born Julien Christian Lutz, Director X has been noted for directing high-budget, visually distinctive videos for popular artists such as Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, Kanye West and many more. Rupi Kaur – Rupi Kaur is a poet, artist and performer. Her artistic journey began as early as the age of 5 when her mother handed her a paintbrush and said, “draw your heart out.”  While studying at the University of Waterloo, Rupi wrote, illustrated, and self-published her first collection, Milk and Honey, which has since sold over 3 million copies, translated into more than 35 languages, and landed as a #1 New York Times Bestseller for more than 100 consecutive weeks. Rupi’s long-awaited second collection The Sun and Her Flowers was published in 2017 and debuted as a #1 global bestseller. In 2006, the Peel Heritage Complex (now the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives) officially renamed the archives reading room the Wm. Perkins Bull Reading Room and in 2007 the Ontario Heritage Trust honoured Mr. Bull for establishing provincial historic significance.

The artistic work of the inductees will be featured and celebrated in individual presentation events, followed by their recognition as part of the Arts Walk of Fame. Canadian Music Week Announces “In Conversation With… Jason Flom: A Lifetime In Music & Justice”

0

New Yorker magazine called Lava Records’ Jason Flom “one of the most successful record men of the last 20 years.” But the descriptor doesn’t fully convey the many sites at which he’s struck gold. From his days under Ahmet Ertegun at Atlantic (where he signed Skid Row, Stone Temple Pilots and Tori Amos), to his creation of Lava (Matchbox 20, Kid Rock, Simple Plan), to the Capitol Music Group (Katy Perry, Thirty Seconds to Mars) to his reclamation of the Lava label in 2009 (Lorde, Jessie J, Greta Van Fleet), Flom’s record of monster signings is unparalleled. He’s also among the industry’s great philanthropists, as a founding board member of The Innocence Project and a member of numerous other charity boards. Mobile innovation & entertainment leader Ralph Simon conducts a provocative conversation with this superstar magnet & A&R visionary.

American music industry executive Jason Flom is the CEO of Lava Records and Lava Music Publishing. Flom previously served as Chairman and CEO at Atlantic Records, Virgin Records and Capitol Music Group and is personally responsible for launching acts such as Kid Rock, Katy Perry, and Lorde. The New Yorker described him as “one of the most successful record men of the past 20 years…known for his specialty in delivering ‘monsters.'”

Flom began his career at Atlantic Records as a Trainee Field Merchandiser when he was 18 years old. He rose through the ranks and was named Chairman and CEO in 2003. Artists who he discovered and developed during his time there included Kid Rock, Matchbox 20, The Corrs, Hayley Williams, Skid Row, Tori Amos, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Jewel, and Stone Temple Pilots. Flom became Chairman and CEO of Virgin Records in 2006 where he discovered and signed Katy Perry. In 2008, he was appointed Chairman and CEO of Capitol Music Group, where he oversaw the careers of such artists as Coldplay, Lenny Kravitz, and 30 Seconds to Mars.

5SOS Announces Summer North American “Meet You There” Tour

0

Capitol Records will release Youngblood, the third studio album from 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS), on June 22. Today, the band shared the album’s cover and let fans know the title track will be released this Thursday, April 12, at 7 AM PT/10 AM ET.

On Youngblood, 5SOS expands its musical parameters while retaining the hooks and trademark DNA that’s always been a massive part of the band’s appeal. Vocalist/guitarist Luke Hemmings explains, “Growing up is what we had to do on Youngblood. Seven years as a band may seem like a long time, but we were teenagers when we started. We had to look at each other and say, ‘Are we going to stop now, or do this forever? Because if we continue, then we have to go farther than we ever have before.’”

With the spring 5SOS3 tour completely sold out, the band is making good on its promise to fans for a more extensive outing, including larger venues and amphitheaters across the run. The Meet You There Tour, produced by Live Nation, will launch on August 27 in Toronto, ON and include a show at Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, IL on September 8. The 25-city North American headline trek will conclude on October 12 with a concert at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre. Each ticket purchased for the Meet You There Tour also includes a copy of the forthcoming album. See below for itinerary.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, April 13 at 10 AM local time at LiveNation.com.

5SOS will perform “Want You Back,” the first single from Youngblood, on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” this Wednesday, April 11 – the eve of the band’s sold-out show at New York City’s Irving Plaza. The track debuted at No. 1 on iTunes in over 18 countries and has already amassed more than 60 million streams worldwide. “Want You Back” showcases the bold new approach 5SOS takes on Youngblood. Luke Hemmings’ passionate yearning for lost love finds him breaking into a searing falsetto on the infectious chorus. The soaring production and upfront bass line, meanwhile, finds the band exploring grooves and emotions like never before.

An acoustic version of “Want You Back” is out now along with “Want You Back” (Tritonal Remix). The official video, which was directed by James Larese (Eminem, Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons), can be seen HERE.

Hailed as the “biggest new rock act in the world” by Rolling Stone, 5SOS is the only band (not vocal group) in history to see its first two full-length studio albums enter the Billboard 200 at No. 1.  5SOS’s self-titled debut album has sold more than three million units worldwide, with 1.5 million albums and more than 4.5 million single tracks sold in the U.S. alone.  2015’s Sounds Good Feels Good charted at No. 1 in 12 countries, including the U.S., the U.K. and Australia. “She’s Kinda Hot,” the album’s first single, topped the iTunes charts in 44 countries.  5SOS – comprising Luke Hemmings (vocals/guitar), Michael Clifford (vocals/guitar), Calum Hood (vocals/bass) and Ashton Irwin (vocals/drums) – has won an American Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, an iHeartRadio Music Award, five MTV European Music Awards, two ARIA Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.
