Paul Simon Announces “Homeward Bound – The Farewell Tour”

0

Legendary songwriter, recording artist and performer Paul Simon, will embark on his farewell concert tour on May 16 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at Rogers Arena. Homeward Bound – The Farewell Tour will encompass shows across North America, the United Kingdom and Europe, with Simon and his band bringing to the stage a stunning, career-spanning repertoire of timeless hits and classic songs which have permeated and influenced popular culture for generations.

Tickets for Paul Simon’s Homeward Bound – The Farewell Tour will go on sale beginning February 8 at 9 a.m. in Europe and February 9 at 10 a.m. in North America and the UK. The complete tour itinerary is listed below. Go to PaulSimon.com for ticketing information as it becomes available.

According to Simon, the Homeward Bound tour is a fitting culmination of a performing career that began in the early 1960s and has coincided with his artistic journey as a songwriter and recording artist until the present day.

He said of this farewell tour, “I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I’d consider bringing my performing career to a natural end. Now I know: it feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating and something of a relief. I love making music, my voice is still strong, and my band is a tight, extraordinary group of gifted musicians. I think about music constantly. I am very grateful for a fulfilling career and, of course, most of all to the audiences who heard something in my music that touched their hearts.”

Having created a distinctive and beloved body of work that includes 13 studio albums, plus five studio albums as half of Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon is the recipient of 16 Grammy Awards, three of which—Bridge over Troubled Water, Still Crazy after All These Years, and Graceland—were Album of the Year honorees. In 2003, he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in Simon & Garfunkel, and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

During his unparalleled career, Simon has achieved 29 Top 40 singles in the U.S. alone, with 14 of those reaching the Top 10 or higher, including “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” (which reached #1), “Kodachrome,” “Loves Me Like A Rock,” “Mother and Child Reunion,” “Late In The Evening,” “You Can Call Me Al” and many others. With Simon & Garfunkel, he wrote and performed the #1 singles, “The Sound of Silence,” “Mrs. Robinson,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and numerous other timeless hits.

Paul Simon is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has been inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, both as a member of Simon & Garfunkel and as a solo artist. Simon was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2002 and was named one of Time magazine’s “100 People Who Shape Our World” in 2006. In 2007, Simon was awarded the inaugural Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, which recognizes the profound and positive effect of popular music on the world’s culture. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2011. And in 2012, he was named the recipient of the prestigious Polar Music Prize along with classical cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

Simon’s philanthropic work includes the co-founding of the Children’s Health Fund (CHF), which donates and staffs 53 mobile medical units that bring health care to low-income children and their families in urban and rural locations around the United States. Since its inception in 1987, CHF has provided more than 3 million doctor/patient visits.

Throughout his career, Simon has also raised millions of dollars for worthy causes as varied as Autism Speaks, The Nature Conservancy, CURE, Tibet House and the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation’s Half-Earth Project, which is committed to stopping the species extinction crisis by conserving half the planet’s lands and oceans.

SOCAN Offers Even More Transparency in North American Music Reproduction Rights

0

SOCAN has reinforced its digital reproduction rights business with Audiam’s launch of Layla, a unique music royalty income and tracking system specifically and only for Audiam clients.

When SOCAN acquired New York-based Audiam in July 2016, it added a state-of-the-art North American digital reproduction rights capability to its well-established Canadian Performing Rights activities, as Audiam’s offerings go far beyond the identification and administration of copyright music used in YouTube videos. Since that time, Audiam has steadily increased business, building and acquiring proprietary technology tools for music publishers with the goal to become the world’s leading digital reproduction rights agency.

With Layla, music publishers and self-published songwriters who are Audiam clients now have a system to track who is recording their songs, where they’re being listened to, how many times they’re streamed, how much each stream generates, what recordings are not being paid on and more.

Layla is an easy-to-use and customizable income tracking system online for Audiam clients to benefit from an overview of all reproduction royalty-generating compositions with the ability to view detailed information of what a composition earned on a specific streaming service, the number of streams and the exact royalty rate that each music service paid.

In addition, the system lets users view monetized YouTube videos and the exact reproduction royalty rate, along with the ability to view and hear a comprehensive list of every recording of a musical work, including those they previously did not know about.

“Audiam’s Layla not only displays massive amounts of data in easy to understand ways, but also analyzes and assures that the data is accurate,” said Audiam CEO Jeff Price. “It removes guesswork and simplifies administration, identifying and recovering earned but unpaid mechanical royalties and ensures publishers and songwriters get paid quickly and efficiently for every fraction of a penny earned.”

SOCAN administers performing rights royalties for music creators and publishers only in Canada. “Performances” of music include radio play, live events, digital streaming and use of music in audio-visual works. “Reproduction,” or “mechanical,” rights comprise the use of copyright musical compositions as permanent digital downloads; interactive streams; and on CDs, records, and tapes.

Short Cuts: The Best Songs Heard On February 4, 2018 From The Indie World

0

At Dawn
(Do U Feel?)
The perfect song for a hazy morning, cup of coffee in hand, after going out to a club the night before. You still want to dance, but your legs aren’t moving as fast as you’d like.

Sean Sahand
Bumpah
The follow-up single to 737, this gem of a track is a club banger in waiting.

Sophie Colette
Slow Danse
A gift of a downtempo number offering strength after a heartbreak. Huge appeal here and another winner from her.

Twin Ritual
Angry
San Diego band produced by Dave Trumfio, known for working with OK Go, Jesus and the Mary Chain, and Built to Spill. Pure pop for now people in the style of Blondie, The Go-Gos and other cool groups.

The Hotel Robbery
Old Times Sake
Seattle-based duo crafts an 80s inspired track blended with modern pop/rap element. After the plaudits coming any minute now, listen to this barnstormer of a track.

Johnny Massacre
Beastman Blitz
Not the metal song you would think, but instead it’s more Michael Jackson and commendably adventurous, finely-produced and a club gem.

Parker Matthews
Hit and Run
A dynamic voice, fierce passion and a gifted creator, the song reminds me of Johnny Hates Jazz’s Shattered Dreams and as good as anything else around. Only one of a handful of standout tracks from the Pittsburgh-based artist.

The Fine Lines
Technicolor Summer
Indie rock band out of New York and New Jersey, proves you don’t need complex instrumental arrangements to get to where to you need to go as artists. No frills here, just a plaintive emotional song.

The Vacant Shapes
Great Barrier Grief
Fans of The Smithereens and mid-career R.E.M. looking for their next fix should do well to check this out. Roars out of the speakers and one of the best songs I’ve heard this year.

The Fleeting Ends
How Much Longer
Straight in your face and ears with this slithering song from their second album. Absolutely second and third listenings aren’t just required, but demanded.

Atlas Knox
Do It (Tobtok Remix)
This debut hit the Top 10 on the Spotify UK Viral 50 charts, with good reason: Heard on the national UK TV campaign music for the clothing brand ‘I SAW IT FIRST’, and contains the lines Let’s do it, do it, do it, do it, Like we’re never, ever going to see each other,” might just be your new weekend anthem over here.

Tree Thomas
Change Your Mind
Standing 6’8, he’s set on staying hungry, focused, and determined to tower over everyone else. His lead single “HETHA”, and features IAMSU, Kevin Gates, NBA superstar Damian Lillard and more. This one is even better, garnering new fans and much-deserved respect.

John Errol
Dead Man Walking
As former keyboardist of the critically acclaimed alt-folk outfit Starred, he just might be the most interesting person you’ll ever meet. He studied poetry and literature at Bard College, got his demo acclaimed in Nylon and Out Magazine, all the while producing some of the most heartfelt downtrodden but spiritual pop this side of Trent Reznor’s slower Nine Inch Nails songs. Wouldn’t be out of place on Moby’s Play album and would have helped it sell another million, too. Let’s hope the same happens to John.

BLESSED
My World
BLESSED is a Sydney-based musician, producer, and songwriter originally hailing from Accra, Ghana. After being signed to a major label at a young age for the better part of a decade, he’s out on his own. It’s our genuine gain, as fans of Kid Cudi, Nirvana, and Lenny Kravitz will have plenty to like here.

Mike11 ft. Jeremih
My Tata
Approach with love here. Guided under the direction of acclaimed Portuguese guitarist Arménio de Melo, this is a great mesh of hip hop beats and beautiful passion.

JOCKS
Riddle Me This
Influenced by Carly Rae Jepsen and the 1975, riddle me this – why isn’t this band better? That answer might be coming sooner rather than later.

Chase McBride
The Color Blue
Recently dominating on Spotify’s Weekly Buzz, Viral 50 USA, and Viral 50 Global, fans of Fans of Dawes and Vetiver will love this in full measure.

Daniel Daniel
The Lonesome Hollow
His deep, grower of a country ballad for fans of Sturgill Simpson and Ray Lamontagne will make you so sad, you’ll want to pick up a phone and speak to someone human.
