MusiCounts Announces Hedley As Sponsor Of 2018 Teacher Of The Year Award

Today, MusiCounts, Canada’s leading music education charity, is pleased to announce JUNO Award winning band Hedley will sponsor the 2018 MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award. Established in 2005, the Award pays tribute to the accomplishments of one exceptional music teacher each year. Nominations are now open and can be made via musicounts.ca until January 5, 2018.

“We’re thrilled that Hedley is sponsoring the 2018 MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award,” said Kristy Fletcher, Director, MusiCounts. “Hedley’s music resonates with a young audience, making them the perfect choice to sponsor an award that recognizes teachers who positively impact the lives of his or her students.”

“Music teachers empower and inspire the next generation of Canadian artists,” said Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard. “Without dedicated teachers, there would be no music class. That’s why it was so important for us to sponsor the MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award to recognize and honour their amazing work.”

The MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award recognizes dedicated music teachers who work hard to keep music alive in schools across the country. Each year, the award is sponsored or presented by an artist. Past sponsors include, The Rolling Stones, Michael Bublé, Céline Dion, Shania Twain, RUSH, Tragically Hip, Anne Murray, Billy Talent, Johnny Reid, Blue Rodeo, Gord Bamford and MAGIC!.

The Award nomination is open to any previous MusiCounts Band Aid Program recipient school and includes a $10,000 cash donation to the recipient teacher, a significant contribution to the recipient school’s music program, an invitation to attend the 2018 JUNO Award weekend for the recipient and a guest and a spectacular crystal statuette based on the JUNO Award design by Canadian glass artist Shirley Elford.

As the company announced last week, there are now more than 25 million business profiles on Instagram, up from 15 million in July. Considering that Instagram only launched these profiles along with other business tools in June 2016, these numbers clearly indicate that brands are embracing Instagram as a new way to connect with consumers. And it appears to be working: as of March 2017, 80 percent of Instagram’s users followed a business, and in November, 200 million Instagrammers visited a business profile every day.

Getting businesses on board is a crucial stepping stone to monetizing a platform such as Instagram, because it increases its acceptance among professionals and its attractiveness to advertisers. As of September 2017, Instagram had two million active advertisers per month – a tenfold increase since March 2016.
