Tori Amos Revisits ‘Strange Little Girls’ With Expanded Edition

0

Alternative trailblazer Tori Amos revisits her daring 2001 concept album ‘Strange Little Girls’ with an expanded edition, out now via Rhino Records. The Grammy-nominated project features Amos reinterpreting songs written by men, shifting each into a female perspective through 12 distinct personas she created. It remains one of her most conceptually ambitious works.

The expanded edition combines the original album and B-sides with two previously unreleased covers from the sessions, including Bruce Springsteen’s “Growin’ Up,” now available digitally. A vinyl pressing arrives with one of 12 alternate covers, each reflecting a different character Amos embodied, originally brought to life alongside makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin.

Recorded at her Martian Engineering studio in Cornwall with Matt Chamberlain, Jon Evans, Adrian Belew and John Philip Shenale, the album spans The Beatles, Depeche Mode, Tom Waits and The Velvet Underground. Amos’ transformation of Eminem’s “’97 Bonnie & Clyde” and Slayer’s “Raining Blood” stands as bold reinterpretation at its most fearless.

Debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, the album earned Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. Amos will tour the UK and Europe this spring in support of her 18th studio album ‘In Time Of Dragons,’ bringing her singular artistry back to the stage.

Welsh Celtic Punk Firebrand NO MURDER NO MOUSTACHE Unleashes “A Demon In The Dark”

0

Welsh Celtic punk force NO MURDER NO MOUSTACHE returns with “A Demon In The Dark,” the gripping lead single from his album ‘As Everything Else Decays,’ out now. Owen Crawford channels raw intensity into a track that surges with urgent rhythms, intricate instrumentation and unfiltered emotion. It is fierce, reflective and defiantly alive.

Blending anti-fascist fire with personal reckoning, Crawford pushes deeper on this record. “This is a more reflective and personal record than my last album. It’s still firmly rooted in Celtic Punk, but I’ve dug deeper into myself to bring more authenticity — the same raw energy that people connect with at my live shows. I really wanted to capture that in the studio this time,” he says. The result feels immediate and hard-earned.

Across ‘As Everything Else Decays,’ serious themes collide with wry everyday observations. Corrupt governments and mental health struggles sit alongside skate park intimidation and self-aware punk humour. The songs carry grit and heart in equal measure, balancing heaviness with sharp melodic punch.

A true DIY operator, Crawford writes, records, produces and promotes his work independently. Having shared stages with The Rumpled, The Cloverhearts, Cam Cole and Mr Irish Bastard, and featured on an NOFX tribute compilation, NO MURDER NO MOUSTACHE stands as a relentless grassroots presence. “A Demon In The Dark” hits with purpose and power.

Welsh Progressive Alt Metal Six Piece SCRATCH ONE GRUB Unleash ” #1 ” From ‘One’

0

Welsh progressive alt metal six-piece SCRATCH ONE GRUB surge forward with “#1,” the biting new single from their debut album ‘One,’ out now. Formed in Aberdare, the band blend progressive ambition with alt-metal grit and raw emotional charge. “#1” lands hard, locking into tight rhythmic punches, expansive hooks and intricate musicianship that immediately marks their arrival.

Comprised of Aled Trigg, Lewis Griffiths, Sean Barry, Evan Cook, Alex Lewis and Zac Cross, the group have built momentum through relentless live performances. Their sound stretches wide, pulling from modern progressive metal while staying rooted in groove and urgency. The chemistry is audible, six players pushing and pulling in sync.

“#1” captures that dynamic in full. The riffs twist and snap. The rhythm section drives with precision. Vocals cut through with intensity and layered power. It is sprawling yet direct, experimental yet grounded, a statement track that announces serious intent from a band ready to move.

Sharing stages with Dead Flesh, Continents, Confessions of a Traitor, Manumit, Calvaria, House of Hosts and Confessions of a Serial Killer has sharpened their edge. With ‘One’ now unleashed, SCRATCH ONE GRUB plant their flag as a formidable new force in UK heavy music.

Edinburgh Masked Metalcore Outlier OBELISK Unleashes “Set Me Free” From ‘Brushed By Darkness’

0

Edinburgh’s masked metalcore outlier OBELISK charges forward with “Set Me Free,” a blistering new single from his debut album ‘Brushed By Darkness,’ out now. Anonymous and entirely self-produced, OBELISK operates as a one-man force. Every riff, every lyric, every layered texture comes from his own hands, forging a sound that is heavy yet deeply personal.

“Set Me Free” surges with emotional intensity, fusing crushing breakdowns with melodic lift. The track expands his sonic world, balancing confrontation and vulnerability in equal measure. It is bold and unfiltered, built from instinct and sharpened by deliberate songwriting.

OBELISK first emerged with “Stardust Cycle,” followed by “Where Do You End?” and “Tragically Designed.” Each release tightened his grip on the alt-metal conversation, showcasing chaotic energy shaped with precision. The momentum carries into ‘Brushed By Darkness,’ an album that shifts between moods while exploring isolation, unrest and creative struggle.

Drawing inspiration from Sleep Token, Green Day, Bring Me The Horizon and Electric Callboy, OBELISK refuses to sit in one lane. ‘Brushed By Darkness’ stands as a defining opening chapter. Confessional. Confrontational. Relentless.

Belgian Noise Punks RONKER Unleash “Limelighter” From ‘Respect The Hustle, I Won’t Be Your Dog Forever’

0

Belgian noise-niks RONKER crash back in with “Limelighter,” a maximalist blast from their album ‘Respect The Hustle, I Won’t Be Your Dog Forever,’ out now via LABELMAN. The track barrels forward with circus-metal chaos, stacking a massive chorus, emocore breakdown, choir arrangement and a chromatic death metal riff into one volatile finale. It is theatrical, abrasive and impossible to ignore.

“Limelighter shows RONKER at our most maximalist, pulling out most of the bells and whistles the band have in their arsenal. We thought big: big chorus, big emocore breakdown, big choir arrangement, big chromatic death metal riff at the finish. The end (of the album) is near, anything goes,” the band say. The ambition is audible from the first hit to the final crash.

Written on the road, the song digs into the strain and absurdity of a nomadic entertainer’s life. “It’s one of those kind of songs you start writing and immediately think of as a set-closer, because of its epic nature. A song about singing songs in front of people to close the show: talk about going full-circle.” It feels built for sweat-drenched rooms and roaring pits.

Following the punch of “No Sweat,” which hit both the Kerrang! Chart and Metal Hammer’s Best New Metal Songs of The Week, RONKER double down on layered aggression. Drawing lines between At The Drive In, Helmet and The Armed, while nodding to David Bowie and Refused, they forge something feral and hook-heavy. A headline show at The Lexington in London marks the next eruption.
