Patti-Anne’s accomplishments during her life-long career in the music industry will be honoured at CMW’s annual Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards Gala Dinner at Rebel Nightclub in Toronto on Thursday May 10th, 2018.

Patti-Anne Tarlton currently oversees Ticketmaster’s Canadian business and operations as Chief Operating Officer, Canada. As COO, she responsible for the features and products that Ticketmaster sells, including the technology that is used to sell and market tickets. Tarlton’s mandate is to ensure its innovative and revolutionary new products and tools deliver exceptional value to Canadian clients and ticket buyers alike.

“Throughout the course of my career, I have had the good fortune to live and work from coast to coast with many of the pioneers that built the industry in Canada. It has been a wild ride and I have met so many inspiring, passionate and creative people. I am incredibly honoured to be invited into the Canadian Music and Broadcast Hall of Fame, the members inducted before me have been my mentors and role models.

Patti-Anne has a deep understanding of the North American Live Entertainment Industry having spent her career as a concert promoter, venue operator and sports & entertainment executive in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. Prior to joining Ticketmaster, Tarlton headed up Live Entertainment Division for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) as Vice President for 13 years.

Patti-Anne’s curiosity in the music industry came at a very young age as her Uncle, Donald Tarlton, was one of the most prominent record label owners in Canadian music history. Donald Tarlton owned Aquarius Records, which represented April Wine, Sum 41, and Corey Hart. Patti-Anne got her start in operations as a concert promoter and over the next 14 years, she promoted concerts for Perryscope Concerts, DKD Concerts and House of Blues Concerts.

Among Patti-Anne’s accolades, she was recognized as one of Billboard Magazine’s ‘Women in Music 2017: The Most Powerful Executives in the Industry, received the Women of Influence Award from Venues Today, won Coach of the Year from Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, and was nominated for Facility Executive of the Year twice for Pollstar. In addition, Tarlton serves as a Board Member of Musicounts, Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), Music Canada Live, is an appointed member of the Toronto Music Advisory Council. She is also served on the CARAS board for 8 years.

In a recent interview with Women’s Post, Tarlton shared that she wants to motivate women to reach for influential positions in the music business, “While I have enjoyed a career and not been set back by my gender, I have two girls and I envision a world where they don’t have to think about gender. I do know that we have a network of really talented women across the country though there are not enough women on civic or government advisory boards,” Tarlton says. “I do feel like I have a responsibility to push women along as well as well as motivate and inspire. If I take lessons from my own life, it is about putting yourself out there. I do not think twice about delivering myself in a conversation and pushing something forward without the one to one.”

Billie Joe Armstrong Is Having A Green Day Garage Sale With His Guitars And Amps

0

On this Wednesday, December 20, you can own a piece of American punk history. We at Reverb have partnered with Green Day co-founder and frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, to launch the Official Reverb Green Day Garage Sale. The shop will feature a substantial cache of gear that Armstrong has collected over the years, from guitars and amps to pro-audio equipment. You can sign up here to be first to receive information.

As a user of Reverb for both his personal collection and Oakland-based guitar store, Broken Guitars, Armstrong told us how passionate he is about gear continuing to collect stories as it changes hands.

“Used guitars,” Billie Joe says, “in particular, come with a history to them. I love the character you can see looking at a fretboard that’s been used—you can see where someone played it in clubs, in barns, in churches. We had a guitar come through our store, and you could just see the smoke from the clubs it was played in. It was beautiful. I hope the gear from the Green Day Reverb shop goes to someone that plays it.”

Luckily, the Green Day Garage Sale is packed to the brim with all kinds of new and vintage specimens to choose from.

Known for his love of Gibson Les Paul Juniors, Armstrong has picked three from his impressive collection to include in the sale. “When Green Day was on tour, I was always looking for Les Paul Juniors at local guitar shops, and I started to accumulate a collection. At one point, we’d walk in, open the door, and the guy behind the counter would say ‘Les Paul Junior, right?’ And I’d say ‘Yes, sir.’”

Armstrong is also parting with a 1970s Martin D-41 used on “21 Guns” and several other songs from 21st Century Breakdown, and one of three Les Paul Specials that were refinished for him by Jay Black. One of the Specials is currently on display at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Armstrong continues to play the third on stage. The LP Special up for sale in Armstrong’s Reverb shop is a white 1960 model that he played during Green Day’s American Idiot tour in 2004.

Speaking of American Idiot, also up for sale is the Victoria tweed amp (affectionately known as “Little Vicky”) that Armstrong used to record the unmistakable intro to the album’s title track. “It has this big, nasty sound—I recorded it on everything,” Armstrong told us about Little Vicky. “Why am I selling this thing again?”

In addition to Little Vicky, the Official Reverb Green Day Garage Sale will be packed with:

  • More than twenty pieces of new and vintage pro audio gear from JingleTown Recording (formerly 880 Studios) in Oakland, which closed this year. According to Armstrong, the last few Green Day albums were recorded on the rig.
  • Two Silvertone amps used on Uno… Dos… Tré!
  • A Burns Brian May guitar that the band picked up during the American Idiot tour to play on its “We are the Champions” encore.
  • Several Gretsch guitars, including a black Brian Setzer Hot Rod model used on the American Idiot tour and a red Anniversary model used on Foxboro Hot Tubs recordings.
  • A Trident Console used on Uno… Dos… Tré! and Revolution Radio.

There’s A New Subscription Service From Iconic Retailer Rough Trade

0

Rough Trade, the independent music retailer, are excited to announce the US launch of the Rough Trade Club, an Album of the Month membership curated by the shop’s experts (some of whom have been recommending music face-to-face to the great and good of the artist and label community since the late 70’s).

Each month, the arbiters of taste at Rough Trade will select and send an unmissable record (LP or CD) straight to your door, along with a raft of other members-only benefits that cater for all ages and tastes, predominantly those wishing to spend more time enjoying great music, less time having to find it. If they don’t like it, they may swap it out for another album in the shop’s top 10 list. Members of the club will also receive benefits including priority pre-ordering (order exclusive limited edition LPs before anyone else), access to members-only intimate events + exclusive giveaways, and more! The fun part is that the album of the month isn’t revealed until the package is opened (just like having a gift every month!).

Recent “Album of the Month” titles chosen by Rough Trade include: Kelela, Girl Ray, Max Richter, Mac Demarco, Big Moon and Holly Macve. In previous years, the likes of Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, MIA, The xx, all had their debut album’s selected by Rough Trade far ahead of wider acclaim.

Rough Trade first opened in 1976 in West London, on the doorstep of punk. Not simply a place to purchase from a curated selection of vinyl and CD, the shop (now with 5 locations) was (and remains) a celebration of music the art form, a community hub for curious minds, a place to hang out with friends and colleagues, an informal venue to witness the latest and greatest artists perform live, intimately, up-close. Fundamentally, our stores provide creative, independent minds a shared place of discovery and congregation.

While brick and mortar record shops continue to shutter, Rough Trade has been lucky enough to open more shops! Within the last 10 years, they have opened 4 new locations, which include the largest record store in the UK and a New York store, the East Coast’s largest and finest selection of new vinyl and CD.

Rough Trade has been selling records via mailorder since the 70’s and had a version of this club (simply called “Album Club”) for several years in the early 2000’s). The club was an immediate success. Paused to focus on more shop openings, Rough Trade is excited to re-form the club again.

As Rough Trade Club membership grows on both sides of the Atlantic, and the online stores enable an increasing number of music lovers to (re)connect with the joy of exciting music you can truly own, Rough Trade will forever seek to narrow the gap between artist and audience, offering a trusted, much loved interface between the two.
