Inca Babies Reinvent Classic “Two Rails To Nowhere” With Epic Country Prison Song Grandeur

0

Manchester’s iconic postpunk outfit Inca Babies presents “Two Rails To Nowhere”, a reimagined offering from their ‘Reincarnation’ album. The collection gathers back catalogue classics, re-recorded, re-invented and re-Inca-rnated. The A-side and B-side version released on Spotify includes the original from 1988, which features Clint Boon of the Inspiral Carpets. Led by Harry Stafford, Inca Babies were a vibrant part of Britain’s early postpunk and death rock scene, amassing a steady following through five intensive years of touring, six singles and four albums that all entered the UK Indie Charts. After four sessions for BBC’s John Peel show between 1984 and 1988, the band called it quits before reforming in 2007.

“This was from our fourth album ‘Evil Hour’. On the original version, we managed to hire Clint Boon of the Inspiral Carpets to play Hammond organ for us. This is a song that was inspired by the trad country blues number ‘Midnight Special’, but somehow had more of a Gun Club vibe to it,” Stafford says. The fast paced original was never given the epic grandeur it deserved. Previously a three minute folk rock tune that told a small story of country woe, this expanded version breathes into the country prison song it always wanted to be, telling a far more heroic tale. With bottleneck slide by guitarist Vincent O’Brien and the measured rhythm backing of Rob Haynes, the song has been slowed down to a more contemplative pace.

Now a four piece, Stafford joins guitarist Jim Adama, bassist Dave Carmichael and Rob Haynes from The Membranes and Goldblade on drums and percussion. Recorded and mixed over two years at 6Db Studios in Salford by renowned producer Simon Archer and Harry Stafford, with Archer also contributing sonic and dub flourishes, the album was mastered by Marco Butcher at Boombox Studio in North Carolina. Since reforming, Inca Babies have released four albums and toured Europe, Russia, North America, India and beyond, continuing to explore goth, punk and death rock jazz blues.

Paris Music Corp. Explores Light And Dark On New Tracks “Midnight Pad” And “Sun Halos”

0

Texas based electronic composer Paris Music Corp., also known as John Andrew Paris, presents two new tracks from his ‘Ecotone’ album. “Midnight Pad” and “Sun Halos” juxtapose light with dark, mirroring how night turns to day and back again. The record stems from his relocation to his childhood home in Brownsville, South Texas, just miles from the border and the coast. Paris wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered this at Tarantula Studios over the past two years. Nature and cycles thread through the album as he takes listeners on an electronic odyssey that feels both deeply personal and geographically rooted.

“‘Midnight Pad’ was another late night writing excursion using some mind expansion influence,” Paris says. “Another piece that started with my phone and ended up with hardware synths and drum machines in the studio once it was built. And ‘Sun Halos’? Creating a song just happens sometimes. Brian Eno always talked about his main theory in that music just happens. It’s really like a magic trick sometimes when what you turn out is an earworm of a piece that is memorable.” Many pieces began on the phone app Ableton Note, allowing him to sketch ideas during late night sessions before importing them into his workstation for completion.

Originally from Austin, Paris has spent decades creating music and collaborating with artists including Arthur Brown, DJ Rev Kathy Russell, DJ Lucas Ray, Catastrophe Ballet, Le Reve, Life’s Eyes, Beast of Eden, OBOYO and Don Wigwam. His cinematic and ethereal sound shows its dark underbelly and futuristic imagination on this album. Often incorporating elements of 80’s darkwave and ambient soundscapes, his trademark approach includes heavily processed guitar and bass instruments locked into layered loops and further manipulated using software. Earlier releases from ‘Ecotone’ include “Rituals” and lead track “No Soy A.I.”, featuring Spanish vocals by fellow Texan musician RayPerez.

Factheory Enlist The Names’ Michel Sordinia For Haunting New Single “Bird Of Time”

0

Belgian darkwave and postpunk trio Factheory release their new single “Bird of Time”, featuring guest vocals from Michel Sordinia, frontman of the legendary Belgian postpunk band The Names. Dominique Nuydt composed the track during a school trip to Buchenwald. After touring the concentration camp and watching historical footage, he took a moment alone with a guitar, and the foundations of “Bird of Time” emerged. Bruno Uyttersprot wrote the lyrics, which reflect childhood memories and the passage of time. Thomas Neidhardt mixed the single at Ivy Room Studio and Jack Gallows mixed at Canal 10 Studio. Pascal Courcelles created the cover artwork.

A music video for “Bird of Time” has also been released, directed by Stéphane Manzone, a filmmaker originally from the south of France who divides his time between Brussels and Marseille. Known for his work in TV, film and music videos, Manzone filmed the video in Brussels’ Bois de la Cambre park and at the New Rocky Pompadour bar on the Parvis de Saint Gilles. Production was handled by diFFéré. The band extended thanks to bar owner David Lacour for his support.

Factheory expressed appreciation for Sordinia’s involvement, calling it a significant honour. The Names first emerged in the late 1970s and became associated with Factory Records after meeting the label at a Joy Division show in Brussels. The band recorded their influential single “Nightshift” in Manchester in 1980 with producer Martin Hannett. The Names remain active and will perform on 6 December in Meschede, Germany, with Factheory joining as the opening act. Factheory will mark their tenth anniversary with a special show in Brussels in March 2026, where The Names will also appear on the bill.

Jessie Kilguss Stitches American Mythology Into European Art House On ‘They Have A Howard Johnson’s There’

0

Jessie Kilguss releases her sixth album ‘They Have A Howard Johnson’s There’, a powerful collection steeped in sweet nostalgia, divine inspiration and sophistication. The songstress drives her classic vintage automobile straight into the heart of American mythology with European art house sensibility. Charlie Nieland, who has worked with Debbie Harry, Rufus Wainwright, Blondie and Scissor Sisters, engineered, produced, mixed and mastered the album at Saturation Point Studios in Brooklyn. The album involves heavy hitters like Kirk Schoenherr, John Kengla, Andrea Longato, Rob Heath, Dave Derby and Rembert Block.

The near title track “Howard Johnson’s” is a beautiful, melancholic tribute to her late father Howard, name checked in a surreal line by Al Pacino in the movie ‘Dog Day Afternoon’. “This is a collection of songs I’ve written over the past few years, most being inspired, at least in part, by a book (Elena Ferrante’s ‘The Lost Daughter & Neapolitan Quartet’), a movie (‘Dog Day Afternoon’) or a work of art (‘The Ecstasy of St Teresa’),” Kilguss says. “The title comes from a line in the song ‘Howard Johnson’s’, which is a roundabout tribute to my father Howard, who passed away in 2023.” The whole project is defined by a clever, layered nostalgia, as reflected in the era inspired video by Deborah Magocsi.

“I’ve been working on this album for the past year with producer Charlie Nieland, with whom I have been collaborating since 2007,” Kilguss says. “We started every track with just voice and guitar and built them out from there. Previously, I’ve always gone into the studio with my band to record. This was an interesting way to work as we deconstructed each song and then put them back together.” The former actress cut her teeth working with Daniel Day Lewis and Winona Ryder on ‘The Crucible’, as well as Marianne Faithfull and Mary Margaret O’Hara in the Tom Waits and William Burroughs musical ‘The Black Rider’. Kilguss also sings with Gramercy Arms, the Loser’s Lounge, Jim Andralis and the Syntonics and Benjamin Cartel.

Rose Gerber Meditates On Reconnection And Regret With New Single “Just Yesterday”

0

Rose Gerber releases her third single of the last year with “Just Yesterday”. Rooted in her blend of country, Americana and indie rock, the track explores what happens when connection fades and what happens when we choose to reach for it again. The song carries the warmth and ache of the Pacific Northwest landscape it was born from. Gerber has been a fixture in the Portland, Oregon music scene where she’s honed her signature sound of rock meets country, bringing a high lonesome rock vibe to the familiar sound of the pedal steel whine.

The track opens with gentle nostalgia before unraveling into reflection. Between the ache and acceptance lies a quiet hope. The chorus line, “Watch the yellow birds, so hard to let them go / but you know they couldn’t stay,” captures both loss and release, a reminder that love doesn’t always mean holding on. Gerber blurs the line between personal and universal, inspired by personal experiences and the growing number of people going no contact to protect their peace. The song offers a different kind of remedy, one that invites healing rather than avoidance.

“It’s about time, regret, and the beauty of trying anyway,” Rose says. “We all get caught up in our own stories and end up missing the people who mattered most. The song came from that realization, that it’s never too late to pick up the phone.” She adds, “It’s not about fixing what’s broken. It’s about noticing what still matters before it becomes just a memory.” The song is reflective but not resigned, understanding the sting of regret while still believing in the possibility of reconnection.

Dublin Duo T R Y S T E Unleash Emotional Blackgaze On ‘To Rise You Seek The End’

0

Dublin duo T R Y S T E deliver emotional blackgaze on their new EP ‘To Rise You Seek The End’. Gabriel Gaba handles vocals and guitar while John O’Kelly takes on production and guitar, creating what they call emotionally heavy, heavy music. The EP seamlessly blends the soaring melodies of Jeff Buckley with the melancholic folk of Bon Iver and the crushing vastness of Holy Fawn and Deafheaven. Session drummer Nicola Dusmanic brought the programmed drums to life in the studio. Brad Boatright from Audiosiege Studios in Portland handled the mastering.

The five tracks pull from classic shoegaze, 80’s goth, post-rock and post-metal. Opening track “The Long Journey” spans eight minutes and becomes a microcosm of the entire EP, moving from avalanches of double bass and guitar swathes to ambient verses that glide with unease. “Abandon” introduces piano and electronic elements with soaring choruses that feel like endless vistas. “Pipe Dream” marks the halfway point as the first track John wrote for the project, offering a more straight up rock song. “Analysis / Paralysis” arrived fully formed and constantly evolves through separate movements before reaching its devastating blackgaze crescendo. Gabriel says of the closing track “Vessel”, it was the song he’d been trying to write all along.

Gabriel penned the lyrics during a period where his mental health issues had become more acute in the wake of the pandemic. Themes of mortality, depression and anxiety snake through the EP. The duo prefer to write in isolation before demoing and sharing, then the process becomes entirely collaborative. John recorded all lead guitars, rhythm guitars, bass and synth at Westland Studios where he previously worked as a professional recording engineer. Gabriel handled vocals, rhythm guitars, synth, piano and ambient sections remotely. The sonic palette pulls from endless influences while maintaining the juxtaposition of light and dark, beauty and ugliness, melancholia and elation at its core.

Debra Jean Creelman Unveils Soulful Single “Bloom” Ahead Of Her Cinematic New Album ‘Little Town’

0

Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Debra Jean Creelman returns with her captivating new single “Bloom,” a soulful exploration of self-reflection and personal growth. Born from a writing exercise and developed alongside longtime creative partner Sean Cronin, the track was recorded live to tape in a barn in Catskill, NY. The production features a powerhouse ensemble including Adam Brisbin of Big Thief and Noah B. Harley, with later vocal overdubs in Vancouver featuring Dave Genn and Kendel Carson. Creelman describes the track as an emotional experience designed to place her powerhouse vocals front and center while reflecting her deepest musical influences.

“Bloom” serves as the first glimpse into Creelman’s fifth studio album, ‘Little Town’, which arrived on December 5. The 17-track collection is a visceral and vaudevillian journey that unfolds like a short film, bridging her early days with Mother Mother to her current status as a fearless solo artist. This album features warmth and texture derived from analog tape recording sessions at Basement Floods Records. From the radiant harmonies of the lead single to the janky rock energy of “Bing Bong Baby,” ‘Little Town’ showcases Creelman’s distinct vocals and Cronin’s cinematic storytelling.

The Marches Charge Into 2026 With Bold New Double A Side Release And Upcoming Tour Dates

Fearless all-female rock four-piece The Marches officially release their powerful Double A Side today, marking a pivotal turning point in their sonic evolution. Comprised of Katie Palmer, Nicola Singleton, Jane Jenkins, and Kate Morrow, the group continues to rewrite the pop-rock rulebook with their signature blend of grit and melody. The digital arrival of “November” and “Don’t Fool Me Twice” follows a massive 2025 festival run that included standout slots at Belladrum and Pavilion Festival. This record sounds like a defiant transition from the reflective vulnerability of their early work into a bolder and more assertive territory for the year ahead.

The release is available as a limited edition vinyl that highlights the band’s creative duality. While “November” captures the emotional fallout of a relationship adrift, “Don’t Fool Me Twice” signals a sonic reinvention with forward-facing energy and gritty clarity. The group remains a rising movement in the Scottish music scene by calling out double standards while celebrating raw honesty. Every performance and release reinforces their status as one of the most exciting breakout acts to emerge from the west of Scotland.
