Former Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson delivers his inspirational and motivational speech as he is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“The family legacy that began in such a cruel way has given birth to generations of successful, caring Tomlinsons. I firmly believe God chose me to help bring two races together under one last name.
“My story is America’s story. All our ancestors, unless we are American Indian, came from another country, another culture. Football is a microcosm of America. All races, religions, creeds are living, playing, and competing side-by-side. America is the land of opportunity. Let’s not slam the door on those who may look and sound different than us, rather, let’s open it wide for those who believe themselves that anything is possible and are willing to compete and take whatever risk necessary to work hard and succeed.”
In Vox’s first episode of Earworm, they talk with Warren Lain. He’s a Radiohead fan who also happens to be an incredibly talented musician and music teacher. In December, 2016 he uploaded a 38-minute video to YouTube about the Radiohead song “Videotape.” He had been thinking about the music theory behind this seemingly simple song for the better part of a decade. The reason? “Videotape”, a slow rhythmically monotonous song, is actually syncopated. For music lovers like me who are simply useless with the recording studio, I’m loving the explanation about this musical illusion.
Elbow’s new cassette player just might me dig up those mixed tapes I made in the 70s and 80s. Elbow strips away most mechanical parts of a traditional cassette player, resulting in a strikingly minimal and laconic design. User interaction is made easy and intuitive thanks to bi-axial arm and control wheel, while allowing more playback control than ever before. In addition to boasting a slick, clean aesthetic, Elbow can be pinned to clothes and fabrics, turning your favorite tape into a fashionable accessory.
Oltedal, Norway musician Leo Moracchioli of Frog Leap Studios created a heavy metal cover of The Simpsons theme song.
When I was a kid, I spent half my time in the living room performing for people. I spent the other half the time in my bedroom by myself, writing poetry and sketching. I was not the type of kid who you could say as punishment, ‘go to your room’because my room was heaven to me. My isolation was welcome.
“Guardians’ Inferno” is the song that played over the end credits of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and appears on the soundtrack album. Dust off those far out platforms and enjoy this blast from the past, courtesy of David Hasselhoff and a cameo by Stan Lee.
Bandcamp’s community of artists, fans, and labels once again stood with the music community to enthusiastically voice a commitment to equal rights for all, and oppose the marginalization of the LGBT+ community when the online site donated their portion of all sales on Friday to the Transgender Law Center.
The retailer wrote Friday night, “With a few hours left to go (the party ends at midnight PST), we estimate that fans will have bought nearly $700,000 worth of music today. All of our share of that (~12%) goes directly to TLC. The remainder goes to the labels and artists, many of whom will be donating their share of sales as well. Artists and labels pledged their support so quickly that it was often difficult to keep up, but we’d like to extend a deep, heartfelt thanks to ANTI-, ATO, Merge, Kill Rock Stars, Sub Pop, Hyperdub, Polyvinyl, Car Seat Headrest, clipping., Frankie Cosmos, 12XU, Bella Union, Caribou, Deathwish, Exploding in Sound, Hardly Art, and the hundreds more who joined us. Your support and commitment is inspiring.
“We did hear from a few individuals who suggested that we “stay neutral” and “just sell music.” To those people we say this: an attack against any marginalized community is an attack against all of us. We believe we have a moral obligation to oppose such attacks, and we will always happily embrace the amazing opportunity we have to rally others to do the same.”
