Getting the most out of your singing lessons

Getting the most out of your singing lessons

If you want to learn to sing, the best way to do that is with New York City expert singing lessons with an experienced singing teacher. Individual, private singing lessons are the most effective way of learning how to sing, but there can be an intimidation factor that can be hard to overcome. Here are some top tips for getting the most out of your singing lessons and not letting yourself be intimidated by singing in front of someone else.

Start with the right teacher

This is important. If you don’t gel with the teacher, you’re never going to feel comfortable with him or her. Find at teacher whose personality and teaching style meshes with your personality and learning style, and you’ll be off to a good start. Always look for an experienced teacher, too. They will be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses and help you to learn how to harness your voice. Your teacher should challenge you and motivate you, not intimidate or overwhelm you.

Come to the table ready to learn

Just as you wouldn’t go to school without paper and pen, you shouldn’t come to your singing lessons without your most important tool: your willingness to learn. Make a list of questions you’d like the teacher to answer so they will know you are keen to learn, which will make them keen to teach!

Practice, practice, practice!

You know what they say: Practice makes perfect. One of the best ways to benefit from any type of lesson is to practice. To get the most out of your lesson, it’s imperative that you practice what you learn while at home. The more you sing and practice the techniques you’ve been learning, the better the singer you’ll become.

Be patient!

You won’t learn to sing overnight. Bear that in mind. But anything worth doing is worth doing well, so give yourself the time you need to hone your skills. A good teacher will be able to break down the process of learning to sing into small, manageable steps that you can easily follow. You probably won’t suddenly become a virtuoso after the first lesson, so give yourself the time you need to improve your craft. Before you know it, you’ll be singing a very different tune!

Have fun!

This is the most important part of learning any new skill or hobby. Relax and have fun! After all, if what you’re doing isn’t fun, why do it? Relax and enjoy the process and the rest will follow naturally.

If you want to learn how to sing, taking some professional lessons can help you get off to a great start. Keep these tips in mind if you want to get the very most out of your lessons. Don’t feel intimidated!  Have fun!

Band Names You’ve Been Mispronouncing This Whole Time

0

Back when radio airplay was basically how everyone found out about new music, it was hard to mispronounce a band’s name. DJs introduced the songs and who performed them, so unless your local radio station was run by total dopes, you knew what was up. But in today’s streaming free-for-all, plenty of music fans read a ton of band names without ever hearing them spoken out loud. It’s not like Spotify has a “pronounce this band” feature… but they totally should. Not every band is as easy to say as, say, Smash Mouth or Oingo Boingo. So, unless you’re one of the musically-informed elite, here are a few band names you’ve probably been saying wrong this whole time…

Mick Fleetwood on the Luck of Fleetwood Mac

0

Here’s a preview of an upcoming episode of Sammy Hagar‘s Rock & Roll Road Trip. This one involves the Red Rocker and Mick Fleetwood talking about how Fleetwood Mac have been able to bounce back so many times over the years.

“[Do] you feel like the luckiest man in the world to have so many shots and have disastrous things happen and come back and come back?” Hagar asks in the clip above. “God is just shining on you”

Fleetwood agrees, telling Hagar, “If you read a manual or a blueprint, you would say, ‘This is actually not possible, and it’s all lies. It could not have … happened like that, and if it did, the people, the players in the play, would not have survived. Somehow, the band has survived really against hopeless odds, mostly, in truth, created by ourselves.”
